Squid 2.7 (installed on a Windows box) is causing problems having cached a "server down for maintenance) page for a web service used here. How do you totally disable caching in squid cache?
Cheers!
I can't connect to the instance of exchange server 2010 through EMC on the local machine running w2k8 r2. I've checked all the default website bindings, the kerberos auth and WSMan are set to native type in powershell and I still get this error message.
Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message:
The WS-Management service does not
support the request.
It was running the command 'Discover-ExchangeServer -UseWIA $true -suppresserror $true'
How to install an anonymous proxy in Ubuntu 9.10 server which listens on every public network ethernet interfaces?
I have other service like Nginx, MySQL running on that server so I hope the proxy server wont conflict with them.
I use Microsoft SkyDrive and Google Drive.
I was wondering if it was possible to map to a folder on a cloud service via FTP or something similar? I don't see any obvious ways on Google, or SkyDrive web sites.
I know they each have their custom applications to access the cloud storage files. But my network admins block traffic on those applications. So I was looking for another way to access the files (not through the web site either).
For a schoolar project, I have to run differents services in a lab enviroment where I'll have 6 computers working as servers, what services can I put together, and what cannot be, in order to prevent security risks, and considereiting that if one service goes down, affects less possible the function of the server farm, the services are:
MySql
Http for intranet
Https
DHCP
IPP
SMTP
LDAP
VPN
SSH
NTP
DNS
NFS
I'll use linux
We have Windows 2008 R2 Servers and we want to stream content (avi, wmv, mpeg etc) to Windows/Mac OS X/iOS etc devices. The visitor must be able to select the file (s)he want to view withing the library. We tried to accomplish this using:
VLC
Windows Media Service (WMS)
Mediaportal
VLC: We didnt find a solution to publish the content in a library
WMS: only supports WMV/WMA, needs MediaPlayer
MediaPortal: it is not supported on W2k8R2 Server
Any suggestions?

Intel NICs have a driver option (in Windows) that will log link state events to the system log, so if the network drops out periodically you can determine that fact.
Does anyone know of a simple generic solution that does this, in other words one that is not part of the driver from a particular manufacturer?
I know there are plenty of 'big iron' network monitoring tools out there but surely there's something really simple that runs as a service in Windows with minimal setup ?
TIA
I have an intranet website running on IIS 7. When I try to load my site, it reacts differently every time. Here are the following different scenarios that occur when I try to load my site:
The site loads right away and is working properly
The site loads slowly and some my styling/images/javascript did not appear to load correctly.
I receive a "503 service unavailable" error
Any ideas why this is happening?
I've been asked to update some computers running Windows XP (without any service packs) to Windows XP SP3. The computers don't have an internet connection (only a small intranet) and have never been updated since first install.
Do I need to install SP1a first, then SP2, then SP3, or can I install SP3 immediately?
And where do I find the right files, that don't require an internet connection during installation?
All help is welcome.
Thanks!
I'm trying to start XAMPP, but it fails with only the word 'Busy' in the Control Panel console.
I ran xampp/install/portcheck.bat to see if the ports were available, and I see that port 3306 is busy (because I'm running MySQL as a service on it). I suppose that XAMPP wants to take over and run MySQL on that port. Can anyone tell me how to get XAMPP to just make use of the existing server and not try to control it itself?
Hi all,
I have had a bunch of Linux based streaming servers that employed lighttpd web server to provide video streaming via port 80.
Recently, our service is very slow. Therefore, I would like to ask if there is a good software package that helps us monitor and record our bandwidth usage, lighttpd established connections, TCP sync connections, disk I/O ... over time.
Any suggestions?

Dinh
I would like to setup the Remote Desktop Connection Broker to allow better load balancing of the two terminal servers we have as well as allowing the user to re-establish to the correct server if they get disconnected.
My worry is, if I set this up and the server this service is running goes down, does the terminal server stop accepting connections or will they just lose the benefit of having RDCB turned on? I don't want to add another point of failure in this equation unless I have to.
Hello,
I've got Bind running on a server and although access to the domains I've set up is correct. I was wondering if there was an online (or offline) tool to check if I had setup the service correctly?

my Motorola l6 mobile phone has stopped working, when i press the power button the keypa glows and that's all it does. Please suggest me some solution to it without goin to the service center.
I try to configure nagios in the following way
for every service (for example "mysql seconds behind master") I need to define few levels of escalations, when level is warning I want to send only email and when level is critical I want to send email and sms .
What is the right way to do this?
Do be stick we the levels definition (critical or warning), if there is different way to differentiate email level and sms level of escalation?
Thanks!
I'm running a file upload service and users have requested to have FTP upload features
Basically, I need to allow users to login, via FTP, to an FTP daemon (say, proFTPd) and they should be able to use their username and password (stored in a mysql database) to login there
After logging in, I'll take care of the files with a cron job
I'm stuck on how to make proftpd get users and passwords from my database..any ideas?
I have several Windows Server 2003 Terminal servers to service our domain users.
Sometimes the Default User profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User) gets filled with tempoary internet files, so when a new user logs in, he gets a 1GB profile (instead of 20MB) that fills up the server fast.
Why is it the default user profile gets filled up with files like that, by who and how do i prevent this?
In my Solaris Illumos, I run a simple script:
update_drv -a -i '[myhardware]' [driver]
svcadm disable stmf
svccfg import /mypath/myconfig
svcadm enable stmf
It does not work and gives me no error. The service stmf goes in maintenance mode and I must reboot!
I've discovered that if I run the single commands from console, it works but if I put it into a script, it works only the first line.
Can you explain this behavior?
I was wondering if it was possible to have remote access to a command prompt on a windows xp machine, like using remote desktop services, only with the command prompt. I'm programming a java application, and having a full remote desktop service is a kind of a system hog. Also, the system I am using to access windows remotely is ubuntu. Thanks.

I've read in the "About Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Products and Technologies" paper that SP2 includes an update for the Update Statistics Timer Job that causes SharePoint to run SQL Server's online index rebuild feature (p.4).
I'm uncertain of the terminology here but is this the rebuild that SQL Server uses for minor fragmentation (up to around 40%) and leaves the DB online? I'm also guessing that this will therefore not rebuild severely fragmented indexes as I think this requires the DB to come offline. Can someone please confirm my belief here?
Is there a way to configure varnish or any other caching reverse proxy, to serve pages from its cache when the back-end fails? At the moment, if the back-end goes down a 503 Service Unavailable error would be returned to the browser. I would prefer it if visitors got to see a cached version than an error page while the back-end is being fixed.
My setup:
[varnish (public ip)] <=== [router] <=== [web server (private ip)]
PS: I have only one back-end web server.
