  • Securing a REST API

    - by Christopher McCann
    I am in the middle of developing a REST API - the first one I ever have. The data being passed through the API is not of such a critical nature that there will be loss of life, economics etc if it was intercepted but at the same time I would like it to be secure. The data being transferred is simply like the data that would be transferred on Twitter or Facebook - not overly confidential but still should be kept private. What is the best way to secure this data? Am I best to use HTTP Basic Auth over SSL or should I be looking into something like OAuth. I have never really used REST much before so bit of a first for me. Thanks

  • javax.xml.bind.MarshalException

    - by sandeep
    Hi, I am getting javax.xml.bind.MarshalException error. I am sending List from my webservice to the backingbean and I have this error. Here is my code: Backing bean @WebServiceRef(wsdlLocation = "http://localhost:26565/Login_webserviceService/Login_webservice?WSDL") public String login() { System.out.println("Login Phase entered"); int result = 0; List list; List finalList = null; try { Weblogin.LoginWebserviceService service = new Weblogin.LoginWebserviceService(); Weblogin.LoginWebservice port = service.getLoginWebservicePort(); result = port.login(voterID, password); Weblogin.LoginWebservice port1 = service.getLoginWebservicePort(); list = port1.candDetails(1); finalList = list; this.setList(finalList); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } if (result == 1) return "polling"; else return "login"; } Webservice public List candDetails(int pollEvent) { List resultList = null; List finalList = null; try { if (pollEvent == 1) { resultList = em.createNamedQuery("Cantable.findAll").getResultList(); finalList = resultList; } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return resultList; }

  • Webservice parameter value encoding

    - by dnolan
    We have a webservice created in WCF and presenting itself as a basicHttpBinding. One of the parameters is a string which takes an xml string. Looking at the soap the client generates to send to the webservice, the xml is encoded, with all < and swapped into < and >. My question is, is this all that is encoded, or has the parameter been run through HtmlEncode so that other entities would be swapped also? The reason I ask is we are submitting with our client to a 3rd party webservice now and they would like to know the details on what is encoded.

  • play framework WS API always escape character ';' and '=' in URL

    - by user2512057
    When I send a URL like abc.efg.com/query?para1=cat;para2=dog, play WS API always convert it to abc.efg.com/query?para1=cat%03Bpara2%03Ddog. Of course, there are http:// in the beginning in the URL. my code is as below. val url= "http://abc.efg.com/query?para1=cat;para2=dog" val response = WS.url(url).get() When I use fidder or netmon to look at the data that sent to sever, I found play framework WS (2.1.5) always change to the URL above I mentioned. How do I tell WS not to convert?

  • Windows service Null ReferenceException

    - by Patrick
    I built a windows service on my local machine. when I install and run it locally it works perfectly fine. When I try to move it to my production machine I get a null reference exception error. I've created an installation package that also works perfectly fine on my machine, but when i run it on the production machine the service still fails. The service references a .dll that in turn has references to 3 other dlls. when i build the project it pulls all of the dlls into the debug folder for the project... I've even installed the service from that folder and it works localy on my machine. I know this has to have something to do with the references, but this is beyond me. Any tips/hints would be appreciated.

  • Question about finding third party website APIs.

    - by Abe Miessler
    I have a client that works with several well established 3rd party sites to sell his product (in this case hotel rooms, but the question is more general). Every time he gets a reservation he has to go to each site and manually make changes. I've done a quick search to see if there are APIs or any developer resources for these sites but have come up with nothing. I've emailed his contacts for each site but have yet to receive a response. I don't have a lot of experience working with third party sites like this but in the past when I've looked for APIs I usually come up empty handed. Are these types of APIs rare or am I just looking in the wrong places? It seems like an obvious thing to have for a company that has an affiliate program. Any suggestions on where to look for APIs or am I at the mercy of my "contact"?

  • C#/WebService/ExactTarget - send email to single subscriber without TriggeredSend

    - by Max Gontar
    Hi! There is an email service ExactTarget with web service API. There are samples (in php though) for sending email to whole list instantly, or to single subscriber by triggered action. It's pretty hard to get in it's documentation, and I couldn't find explanation how to send email to a single subscriber instantly without having some triggering actions. Any help or advice will be great. Thanks.

  • Getting data from sharepoint into drupal

    - by andersandersson666
    The problem: I am about to develop a Drupal site for a company that stores a lot of data in a sharepoint environment (products, recipes etc...). I need to get that information into my Drupal system somehow. Preferably saving it as drupal nodes. That information will also be edited/added in the sharepoint system, so on top of just saving the data to drupal it will also have to check for updates on a regular basis. One idea for a solution is using some sort of web-service to retrieve data, but i have no idea of how that would be done in drupal. So my question(s) is: Has anyone done anything like this, if so how, or does anyone have any suggestions to how one would go about doing this? Any answers would be highly appreciated. /Anders

  • Will this web service accept both raw xml and an object?

    - by ChadNC
    We have a web service that provides auto insurance quotes and a company that provides an insurance agency management system would like to use the web service for thier client but they want to pass the web service raw xml instead of using the wsdl to create a port, the object the service expects and calling the web method. The web service has performed flawlessly by creating an object like so com.insurance.quotesvc.AgencyQuote service = new com.insurance.quotesvc.AgencyQuote(); com.insurance.quotesvc.QuotePortType port = service.getQuotePortType(); com.insurance.quotesvc.schemas.request.ACORD parameter = null; Then create initialize the request object with the other objects that make up the response. parameter = factory.createACORD(); parameter.setSignonRq(signOn); parameter.setInsurancesSvcRq(svcRq); And send the request to the web service. com.insurance.quotesvc.schemas.response.ACORD result = null; result = port.requestQuote(parameter); By doing that I am able to easily marshall the request and the result into an xml file and do with them as I wish. So if a client was to send the web service via an http post as raw xml inside of a soap envelope. Would the web service be able to handle the xml without any changes being made to the web service or would there need to be changes made to the web service in order for it to handle a request of that type? The web service is a JAX_WS and we currently have both Java and C# clients consuming the web service using the method described above but now there is another client who wants to send raw xml inside of a soap envelope instead of creating the objects. I feel pretty sure that they will be making the call to the web service using vb. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but it is eluding me at the moment and any help is greatly appreciated.

  • gridview datasource issue

    - by xrx215
    I am calling a webservice as follows.I have to display name, description and url in the gridview using this webservice. using sdi.amiller_v_vista; sdi.amiller_v_vista.DDCControl proxy1 = new sdi.amiller_v_vista.DDCControl(); sdi.amiller_v_vista.DDCReturnGetAll ret = proxy1.GetAllDDCs(x, y); foreach (sdi.amiller_v_vista.DDCInfo2 di2 in ret.DDCs) { GridView1.DataSource = I have to assign the di2 values to gridview datasource //GridView1.DataSource = ret.DDCs[i] throws an error Data source is an invalid type. It must be either an IListSource, IEnumerable, or IDataSource. GridView1.DataBind(); } From WSDL metadata i can get the follwing info public DDCReturnGetAll GetAllDDCs(Guid accountId, Guid authToken); public class DDCReturnGetAll : DDCReturnBase { public DDCReturnGetAll(); public DDCInfo2[] DDCs { get; set; } } public class DDCInfo2 { public DDCInfo2(); public BrandingType brandingType { get; set; } public string ChargebackName { get; set; } public string CollectorName { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string URL { get; set; } }

  • SSIS web service task producing "object reference" error

    - by gfrizzle
    Our care management system uses a web service to import data. I've successfully executed one of its methods using soapUI, and now I want to replicate this with an SSIS 2008 web service task, but I'm running into a problem. I've created the "HTTP Connection Manager" successfully, and specified the location of the "WSDLFile", but when I go to the Input tab and select the Service from the dropdown (there is only one), I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error, and and the Method dropdown is empty. Any idea what this is trying to tell me?

  • C# modify a config file for a windows service

    - by Jim Beam
    I have a windows service that reads from a config file. I need to modify this config file prior to the application starting. How can I create a GUI that would handle the changes to the config file. I know that a service does not have a GUI per se, but I really just need something to modify some strings in the config file and then start the service.

  • Do I want an embedded web-server, or what?

    - by mawg
    So, someone want me to hack some code for him. He has a 42" TFT display on which he will display some application/business related data. However, 75% of the screen real estate is unused, so he wants to fill it with "TV/adverts/flash/you know, that kind of thing... web based....". Any advice? Do I want an embedded web-server? If so, which? (he wants free & open source, or as cheap as possible) Do I display it in a browser? (duh! probably, dude) But I don't want/need a menu, address bar, toolbar, etc - it should be full screen (does that mean "kiosk mode"?). Sorry, folks, the requirements are not clear, but I hope that you can guess what he probably means (he is not very techie). How should I proceed with this? Thanks.

  • Client for restful web service

    - by Ish
    I'd like to create a http-centric client for a restful web service created using CXF. To that end: Does any one know the (maven) dependencies for ONLY the CXF clients (Proxy & HTTP)? Is there any advantage to using CXF's built-in clients over say, Apache HttpClient?

  • jQuery encoding values differently than expected for jQuery.ajax data elements

    - by Adam Tuttle
    I'm using jQuery.ajax() to make a PUT request to a REST web service, but seeing some really strange serialization behavior. (Before you say it: Yes, I know that not all browsers support PUT -- this is just an example implementation for an api/framework, and ultimately will not be called by a browser, but rather by a server-side library that does support the extra http verbs.) Here's the form: <form action="/example/api/artist" method="put" id="update"> First Name: <input type="text" name="firstname" /><br/> Last Name: <input type="text" name="lastname" /><br/> Address: <input type="text" name="address" /><br/> City: <input type="text" name="city" /><br/> State: <input type="text" name="state" /><br/> Postal Code: <input type="text" name="postalcode" /><br/> Email: <input type="text" name="email" /><br/> Phone: <input type="text" name="phone" /><br/> Fax: <input type="text" name="fax" /><br/> Password: <input type="text" name="thepassword" /><br/> <input type="hidden" name="debug" value="true" /> <input type="submit" value="Update Artist" /> <input type="reset" value="Cancel" id="updateCancel" /> </form> And the JS: $("#update").submit(function(e){ e.preventDefault(); var frm = $(this); $.ajax({ url: frm.attr('action'), data:{ firstname: $("#update input[name=firstname]").val(), lastname: $("#update input[name=lastname]").val(), address: $("#update input[name=address]").val(), city: $("#update input[name=city]").val(), state: $("#update input[name=state]").val(), postalcode: $("#update input[name=postalcode]").val(), email: $("#update input[name=email]").val(), phone: $("#update input[name=phone]").val(), fax: $("#update input[name=fax]").val(), thepassword: $("#update input[name=thepassword]").val() }, type: frm.attr('method'), dataType: "json", contentType: "application/json", success: function (data, textStatus, xhr){ console.log(data); reloadData(); }, error: function (xhr, textStatus, err){ console.log(textStatus); console.log(err); } }); }); When using FireBug, I see the request go through as this: firstname=Austin&lastname=Weber&address=25463+Main+Street%2C+Suite+C&city=Berkeley&state=CA&postalcode=94707-4513&email=austin%40life.com&phone=555-513-4318&fax=510-513-4888&thepassword=nopolyes That's not horrible, but ideally I'd rather get %20 instead of + for spaces. I tried wrapping each field value lookup in an escape: firstname: escape($("#update input[name=firstname]").val()) But that makes things worse: firstname=Austin&lastname=Weber&address=25463%2520Main%2520Street%252C%2520Suite%2520C&city=Berkeley&state=CA&postalcode=94707-4513&email=austin%40life.com&phone=555-513-4318&fax=510-513-4888&thepassword=nopolyes In this case, the value is being escaped twice; so first the space is encoded to %20, and then the % sign is escaped to %25 resulting in the %2520 for spaces, and %252C for the comma in the address field. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Passing an object as a parameter to a windows service

    - by user220723
    Is there some way to pass an object to a windows service? I know the method myServiceController.Star(string[] arg) but i need to pass a more complex object than a string array. Actually, i don't need the object to be passed as a parameter, what i really needs is that the service can use an object created in a windows forms application. I've tried using System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.Serialize method to convert the object into a Json but i couldn't because the object contains a circular reference. I also tried using pointers, but i couldn't becouse it is a managed type object. Any idea what can i do?
