  • Is it better to have client (Javascript) processing HTML rather than C# processing HTML?

    - by Raja
We are in the process of building a huge site. We are contemplating on whether to do the processing of HTML at server side (ASP .Net) or at the client side. For example we have HTML files which acts like templates for the generation of tabs. Is it better for the server side to get hold of content section (div) of HTML load the appropriate values and send the updated HTML to the browser or is it better that a chunk of data is passed onto client and make Javascript do the work? Any justification with respect to either ways will be helpful. Thanks.

  • How to encorporate encyption to FlexPaper

    - by Jonathan
Is it possible to configure the FlexPaper reader to un-encrypt password-protected pdfs or swfs? Here is the use-case: User uploads a pdf My server would then convert the pdf to swf via pdf2swf Then somehow encrypt the swf with a password (not sure best way to do this) Then the FlexPaper would be able to un-encrypt the swf and display it What I am trying to avoid is the caching of readable swf in the browser's cache. Any ideas on the best way to achieve this? I know, even with this it will not be a fully secure solution, but certainly helps. Note: I am running this on Linux and OS X and using Rails. Thanks! • PHP JSON encode output number as string

    - by mitch
I am trying to output a JSON string using PHP and MySQL but the latitude and longitude is outputting as a string with quotes around the values. This causes an issue when I am trying to add the markers to a google map. Here is my code: $sql = mysql_query('SELECT * FROM markers WHERE address !=""'); $results = array(); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)) { $results[] = array( 'latitude' =>$row['lat'], 'longitude' => $row['lng'], 'address' => $row['address'], 'project_ID' => $row['project_ID'], 'marker_id' => $row['marker_id'] ); } $json = json_encode($results); echo "{\"markers\":"; echo $json; echo "}"; Here is the expected output: {"markers":[{"latitude":0.000000,"longitude":0.000000,"address":"2234 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA","project_ID":"7","marker_id":"21"}]} Here is the output that I am getting: {"markers":[{"latitude":"0.000000","longitude":"0.000000","address":"2234 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA","project_ID":"7","marker_id":"21"}]} Notice the quotes around the latitude and longitude values.

  • Jqplot ajax request

    - by Moozy
I'm trying to do a dynamic content load for JQplot charts, but something is wrong: this is my javascript code: $(document).ready(function(){ var ajaxDataRenderer = function(url, plot, options) { var ret = null; $.ajax({ // have to use synchronous here, else the function // will return before the data is fetched async: false, url: url, dataType:"json", success: function(data) { ret = data; console.warn(data); } }); return ret; }; // The url for our json data var jsonurl = "getData.php"; var plot1 = $.jqplot('chart1', jsonurl, { title:'Data Point Highlighting', dataRenderer: ajaxDataRenderer, dataRendererOptions: { unusedOptionalUrl: jsonurl }, axes:{ xaxis: { renderer:$.jqplot.DateAxisRenderer, min: '11/01/2012', max: '11/30/2012', tickOptions:{formatString:'%b %#d'}, tickInterval:'5 days' }, yaxis:{ tickOptions:{ formatString:'%.2f' } } }, highlighter: { show: true, sizeAdjust: 7.5 }, cursor: { show: false } }); }); </script> and it is displaying the chart, but it is not displaying the values, looklike its not getting my data. output of: console.warn(data); is: [["11-01-2012",0],["11-02-2012",0],["11-03-2012",0],["11-04-2012",0],["11-05-2012",0],["11-06-2012",0],["11-07-2012",0],["11-08-2012",0],["11-09-2012",0],["11-10-2012",0],["11-11-2012",0],["11-12-2012",0],["11-13-2012",0],["11-14-2012",0],["11-15-2012",2],["11-16-2012",5],["11-17-2012",0],["11-18-2012",1],["11-19-2012",0],["11-20-2012",0],["11-21-2012",0],["11-22-2012",0],["11-23-2012",0],["11-24-2012",0],["11-25-2012",1],["11-26-2012",0],["11-27-2012",0],["11-28-2012",0],["11-29-2012",0],["11-30-2012",0]]

  • Cross browser div center alignment using CSS

    - by Misha Moroshko
What is the easiest way to align a div whose position is relative horizontally and vertically using CSS ? The width and the height of the div is unknown, i.e. it should work for every div dimension and in all major browsers. I mean center alignment. I thought to make the horizontal alignment using: margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; like I did here. Is this a good cross browser solution for horizontal alignment ? How could I do the vertical alignment ?

  • Scoping inside Javascript anonymous functions

    - by DCD
I am trying to make a function return data from an ajax call that I can then use. The issue is the function itself is called by many objects, e.g.: function ajax_submit (obj) { var id = $(obj).attr('id'); var message = escape ($("#"+id+" .s_post").val ()); var submit_string = "action=post_message&message="+message; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: document.location, data: submit_string, success: function(html, obj) { alert (html); } }); return false; } Which means that inside the anonymous 'success' function I have no way of knowing what the calling obj (or id) actually are. The only way I can think of doing it is to attach id to document but that just seems a bit too crude. Is there another way of doing this?

  • What damage is done by document.write()?

    - by Simon Gibbs
What bad things happen at the moment document.write() is invoked? I've heard bits and peices about document.write having an adverse impact on the DOM or on the use of Javascript libraries. I have an issue in front of me that I suspect is related, but have not been able to find a concise summary of what damage the method does.

  • How to catch mousewheel up/down event using RaphaelJs

    - by alex.dominte
    I need to implement a horizontal scrollable timeline. I've drawn the timeline/grids/rulers etc. I just need to catch mousewheel up/down to scroll the timeline (backward - past/forward - future). First I need to catch the event: but nothing I've found seems to work. Need browser support only for chrome/firefox (latest versions). These 2 won't listeners won't work: var paper = new Raphael('raphael-paper'); // ... paper.canvas.on('mousewheel', function(event) { console.log(event); }); // ... paper.canvas.addEventListener('mousewheel', function(event) { console.log(event); });

  • How to find length of JSON using JSON.parse?

    - by Amol
I have a Json like this {"0":{"parent_id":1649,"id":"1803","last_update_on":"2010-12-24 07:01:49","message":"dhb;lxd","created_by_id":"21","created_by_name":"Amol Deshpande"}}. • What is the most efficient way to clone a JavaScript object?

    - by jschrab
What is the most efficient way to clone a JavaScript object? I've seen: obj = eval(uneval(o)); but that's not cross platform (FF only). I've done (in Mootools 1.2) things like this: obj = JSON.decode(JSON.encode(o)); but question the efficiency. I've also seen recursive copying function, etc. I'm pretty surprised that out-of-the-box JavaScript doesn't have a method for doing this.
