Is there a way to force Mac OSX to take screengrabs with the sRGB color space instead of Color LCD? Currently I have to switch to sRGB in Displays, take a snap and then switch back.
I'd like to setup the guest account with easy access to a particular web site, but cannot figure out how to change the default.
In 10.5.8 the parental controls can be used to control the list of bookmarks, but I haven't seen any reference to the home page. And when logged in as Guest, the home page settings are read-only, even if you enter an administrator password.
How can the Safari home page be changed (and be made persistent) for the OSX Guest account?
Hello,
I bought a almost no-name netbook (chiligreen netbook neo), and I'm trying to have OSX86 working on it.
No problem with the installation, but to activate wifi one must use Fn+F3.
Of course it works with Windows, but neither in OSX or Ubuntu...
Any idea ?
A manual way to do something like http://greg.geekmind.org/eee-control/ ?
Note, there's already a question on this regard, but it's totally useless.
I need to blur, or put a small opaque mask to a moving object on a movie I took, I am using mac osx. Clearly, I don't want to shell out a lot of money for something so simple, so getting adobe premiere or similar software is a no go. I could however consider paying a small software (max 30 dollars) for this specific task.
I was wondering if anyone has been able to use chroot on OSX to run another OS (ubuntu, centos). I know that they are very different, but almost everything I want to use this for wouldn't care about anything at the level of the kernel, so was hoping there would be a way to do this without using a VM.
Based off my google searches, I see this question is asked, but no real answer other than "try a VM". Would really like to do this without a VM though.
Spaces rarely returns focus to my last used window. Haven't been able to peg universally reproducible steps, but spend any time switching among spaces and windows and you'll come across this.
It often happens with finder windows. I'm thinking this is because osx treats Finder as a single app, so bringing finder forward in one space brings it forward in all spaces. Extremely annoying!
Anyone have a fix for this?
I'm seemingly unable to configure my flash player settings in OSX under random circumstances. I right click and select settings from the context menu, the dialogue comes up and it's not clickable.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Might it be the way I'm embedding my flash movie?
I've been using OSX's VNC service to connect remotely from a Windows XP box, via TightVNC. Everything seems to work normally, except that frequently - anywhere from ten seconds to ten minutes - the connection locks up entirely, without any sort of error message. The only solution is to reconnect and wait for it to lock up again.
How can this be fixed permanently?
Does anyone know how to set the audible bell to a visual bell in iterm? I've looked around a bit with no luck. I'm on OSX 10.6.3 and iterm Build 0.10.
Thanks!
I have a mac environment our server is sharing an NFS mount Setup via Server Admin. Clients connect to the NFS mount at boot via The Directory Utility built into OSX...
Everything works fine with one small exception, the NFS mount seems to timeout/dropout every now and then it seems random and requires a reboot to bring it back up? Has anyone else ran into this situation?
Any fix would be appreciated.
Is there a way to force users to accept an AUP the first time they log into an OSX computer? We want to keep them from doing anything until they accept and if they don't they will be logged out.
I was a Windows person for more than 10 years. Around 4 months ago, I switched to Mac, and I have never looked back.
But there is one thing that bothers me, which is my Mac partition volume is losing space slowly and gradually. I am pretty sure there are a lot of orphaned temporary files laying around in the volume.
I know where to find the obsoleted temp files in my Windows partition, how about in Mac OSX?
The Question
How do i start this Wiki VM at the startup of the OSX Server?
I am running OSX Server 10.6.8 and VirtualBox 4.1.8 r75467 and a Debian Linux VM (called "wiki").
.
What I tried so far
Following this article: http://mikkel.hoegh.org/blog/2010/12/23/run-virtualbox-boot-mac-os-x/, i have wrote this plist and placed it in /Library/LaunchDaemons/bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox.plist:
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Label</key>
<string>bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox</string>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>/usr/bin/VBoxHeadless</string>
<string>-s</string>
<string>wiki</string>
</array>
<key>RunAtLoad</key>
<true></true>
<key>UserName</key>
<string>root</string>
<key>WorkingDirectory</key>
<string>/var/root</string>
<key>StandardErrorPath</key>
<string>/var/log/bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox.stderr.log</string>
<key>StandardOutPath</key>
<string>/var/log/bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox.stdout.log</string>
</dict>
</plist>
and told launchd to start it:
sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox.plist
.
The Logfile
But the VM doesn't start. A Look at
tail -f /var/log/system.log
shows:
sudo[1909]: administrator : TTY=ttys000 ; PWD=/Users/administrator ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox.plist
VBoxSVC[1914]: 3891612: (connectAndCheck) Untrusted apps are not allowed to connect to or launch Window Server before login.
VBoxSVC[1914]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
com.apple.launchd[1] (bar.foo.WikiVirtualBox[1910]): Exited with exit code: 1
When i log into the server via ssh (so no login window opened) i can run:
/usr/bin/VBoxHeadless -s wiki
and it works. So i don't understand the error above.
Windows 7 has a neat feature where the Windows Key in conjunction with the arrow keys tiles the active window. Windows key + left arrow moves it to the left half, windows key + right arrow moves your window to the right half of your monitor.
Is there an equivalent to this functionality in OS X?
Can anyone suggest some alternative metaphors by which to manage my windows? I find that OSX windows tend to be a bit more scatterbrained than their windows counterparts.
Ubuntu can't detect my monitor type. What driver shall I update Ubuntu with? Or how can I go about increasing the resolution past 800x600, if no higher resolution is visibly available?
I'm running Ubuntu 9.1 on Virtual Box 3.1.6 on Mac OSX 10.6.3
Thanks in advance!
What FREE software (included with Mac OSX, or public domain) would be a good, simple way to take some existing PNG clipart files do some simple editing?
I really only need to do 3 things:
Rotate the image.
Clip the image.
Set a "transparent" color.
I don't need anything that takes weeks to learn... or is super-powerful... or super expensive.
Thanks.
I frequently save pages as PDF from Chrome on OSX. The page is apple-P then click the PDF button and the "Save as PDF.." menu item. I always use the pre-filled filename and save in the default directory.
Is it possible to save this as an automator script? If that is possible I woulld sure like to add this as a button on Chrome somewhere so I can just "save this for reading later"
Thanks for any help.
I am attempting to transfer a 6.1 GB file between a Ubuntu Linux 9.10 and a Mac OSX 10.6. As the file size is over 4GB I can't use Fat32 and I cant seem to format the usb drive to NTFS in either OS. Is there another file type that is read/writeable for both OS?
When the battery power is down and the unit not plugged in the computer is forced into a sleep mode requiring pushing the start button when power is re-connected. The initial desktop screen appears to be greyed out and is unresponsive with a timer bar which, when the timing sequence is complete restores an active desktop. I can't find any reference to this phenomenon in the OSX literature I have. Any pointers to where I can get more information? Perhaps I am using the wrong search criteria?
How do I run a script when a drive is mounted under OSX ?
My usecase is that I would like to automatically copy images from my USB memory/harddrive when it is inserted in my USB card reader, and when a DVD or CD is inserted I would like to copy it for storage in my media center.
I've tried using Marcopolo but from what I can see it can only detect the presence of a certain USB device, not the presence of specific harddrive. (http://superuser.com/questions/65127/is-it-possible-to-run-an-automator-workflow-when-a-usb-device-is-connected)
In a nutshell, I would like to be able to open a browser and open local.example.com but it actually loads http://localhost/path/to/example.com/
I am using Mac OSX 10.5, and not afraid to get my hands dirty with the terminal :)
I'm looking for a free app that will let me control itunes from the menu bar on OSX. Just simple controls, play, stop, pause, etc, doesn't have to be anything fancy.
Software Update has notified me of a new OSX system update (including the Mac App Store). It claims to be about 1.6GB in size. I have 4.6GB of free space on my hard drive. However, when I attempt to actually run the update, it fails because it claims to need 6.9GB of free space. Is there any particular reason Software Update needs so much space beyond the downloaded file size and are there any work arounds?
Thanks.
