  • What *collaborative* wireframing / UI mockup tools are out there?

    - by taco
I'm looking for something that applies the collaboration focus (one location/URL, always up-to-date, multi-person online read/write access anywhere) of google docs / google spreadsheets to wireframing. Bonus points if, like Google Docs, it needs only a browser yet also works offline. More bonus points if it supports automatic revisions. Even more bonus points if you can hand out login-less 'invitation' URLs like Flickr does, instead of forcing people into signing up for accounts or using their home accounts. To start off, there's one called iPlotz, but it didn't enchant me -- ironically, mostly because of its akward UI, which can't hold a candle to omnigraffle (don't let that prevent you from giving it a try though). And no, paper prototyping, wonderful as it is, does not qualify: it does not combine being instantly globally shareable & editable very well :-)

  • close button only for some tabs in Qt

    - by Costy
Hello, I am using Qt for an assignment I have for college, and I want to use QTabWidget to display a chat window much like Pidgin's. I want to make the "group chat" tab always open and impossible to close and the rest of the "private channel" tabs closable. QTabWidget's setTabsClosable(bool) is not helping ... any ideas? ty

  • Which Qt classes use the disk directly?

    - by Jurily
I'm trying to write a library to separate all the disk activity out into its own thread, but the documentation doesn't really care about such things. What I want to accomplish is that aside from startup, all disk activity is asynchronous, and for that, I need to wrap every class that accesses the disk. Here's what I found so far: QtCore: QFile QTemporaryFile QDir QFileInfo QFileSystemWatcher QDirIterator QSettings QtGui: QFileDialog QFileSystemModel QDirModel (unsure) QFont (unsure) QFontDialog I'm sure there are more.

  • Silverlight 4 desktop application sometimes zooms when touching it... and cannot zoom out

    - by TimothyP
Hi, I have a Silverlight 4 desktop application which I control using a touchscreen (on an HP Touchsmart). Most of the time it works fine but sometimes when clicking something everything just zooms in and every time it happens things get bigger and bigger. The only way to get the normal size again is by restarting the application. Has anybody got any idea what might be causing it ? Does not seem to happen in browser mode. Is there a way to prevent zooming? Thnx

  • Graphical designer for asp.net controls.

    - by truthseeker
Hi, I'm searching a graphical designer, better than visual studio designer for asp.net typical and ajax controls. Visual studio designer (VS 2010 B2) very often don't handle with html code and shows nothing. Is there any better tool for writing code behind and design graphically controls for asp.net web sites?

  • SetCursor reverts after a mouse move

    - by Joe Ludwig
I am using SetCursor to set the system cursor to my own image. The code looks something like this: // member on some class HCURSOR _cursor; // at init time _cursor = LoadCursorFromFile("somefilename.cur"); // in some function SetCursor(_cursor); When I do this the cursor does change, but on the first mouse move message it changes back to the default system arrow cursor. This is the only code in the project that is setting the cursor. What do I need to do to make the cursor stay the way I set it?

  • UI suggestions on how to display suggested tags for a given text to a user?

    - by Danny
I am writing a web-app that uses a tagging system to organize the user's submitted reports. Part of it uses ajax to get suggestions for tags to present to the user based on the content of their report. I am looking for suggestions on how to present this information for the user. I'm not quite certain what a friendly way to do this would be. Edit: Well, most of the responses here seem to be focused on the user typing in keywords. The idea I'm trying to define here is more towards presenting the user a set of suggested keywords that they may accept or decline without having to type a tag in manually. (That option is of course still available to them) --------------------------- # say they can checkoff or select tags they like. | o[tag2] x[foo] o[moo] | | x[tag1] o[bar] | ---------------------------

  • iPhone Human Interface Guidelines question

    - by Kyle
iPhone Human Interface Guidelines -- Do they apply for OpenGL games? GL games typically have custom buttons, custom lists, etc. Take the Quake player list for example, if ported, it wouldnt be a typical UI list object. Does this mean the reviewer in question would reject anything that wasn't using standard UI? Or, is there an exception for games.

  • Is a control tree cached after the first call to FindWindowEx/EnumChildWindows?

    - by Ion Todirel
I noticed that if you call FindWindowEx or EnumChildWindows against a hWnd that belongs to a window that's not in the foreground, i.e. minimized, then they don't report any children. On the other hand if I first call SetForegroundWindow against the window I'm querying, and after that FindWindowEx or EnumChildWindows, they report all the children. Next calls report all the children even if the window I'm interested in is not in foreground. It's almost it does some sort of caching after the first call?

  • Delphi: How to diagnose sluggish UI?

    - by Ian Boyd
i have a form, which you can pretend is laid out like Windows Explorer: panel on the left splitter client panel +------------+#+-----------------------+ | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | Left |#| Client | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | +------------+#+-----------------------+ ^ | +----splitter The the left and client area panels are each rich with controls. The problem is that using the splitter is very sluggish. i would expect that a modern 2 GHz computer can re-display the form as fast as a human can push the mouse around. But that's definitely not the case, and it takes about 200-300 ms before the form is fully re-adjusted. The form has about 100 visual controls on it, no code, or custom controls. How do i go about tracing who's the cause of the sluggishness?

  • How I do I make controls/elements move with inertia?

    - by Kris Erickson
Modern UI's are starting to give their UI elments nice inertia when moving. Tabs slide in, page transitions, even some listboxes and scroll elments have nice inertia to them (the iphone for example). What is the best algorythm for this? It is more than just gravity as they speed up, and then slow down as they fall into place. I have tried various formulae's for speeding up to a maximum (terminal) velocity and then slowing down but nothing I have tried "feels" right. It always feels a little bit off. Is there a standard for this, or is it just a matter of playing with various numbers until it looks/feels right?

  • How can I fix the scroll bug when using Windows rich edit controls in wxpython?

    - by ChrisD
When using wx.TextCtl with the wx.TE_RICH2 option in windows, I get this strange bug with the auto-scroll when using the AppendText function. It scrolls so that all the text is above the visible area, which isn't very useful behaviour. I tried just adding a call to ScrollLines(-1) after appending the text - which does scroll it to the correct position - but this can lead to the window flashing when it auto-scrolls. So I'm looking for another way to automatically scroll to the bottom. So far, my solution is to bypass the AppendText functions auto-scroll and implement my own, like this: def append_text(textctrl, text): before_number_of_lines = textctrl.GetNumberOfLines() textctrl.SetInsertionPointEnd() textctrl.WriteText(text) after_number_of_lines = textctrl.GetNumberOfLines() textctrl.ScrollLines(before_number_of_lines - after_number_of_lines + 1) Is there a better way?

  • How to visually represent file size

    - by Keith Williams
This will be a bit subjective, I'm afraid, but I'd value the advice of the Collective. Our web application lists documents that users can download; standard file navigator stuff: Type Name Created Size ----------------------------------- PDF Doc 1 01/04/2010 15 KB PDF Doc 2 01/04/2010 15 MB Currently we list the file size as text, but I'd like to improve this by having some way of showing visually whether the file is tiny, normal or huge. The reason for this is so that users can scan the list quickly and spot files that are likely to take a long time downloading. My options currently are: Bigger font sizes for bigger files (drawback: the layout can become untidy) Icons (like a wi-fi signal strength indicator; drawback: harder to scan) Keep all sizes in KB so the number of zeroes indicates size (drawback: users have to calculate the "friendly" size in their heads) I know this is quite a minor thing, but I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on the matter!

  • Blackberry invalidate field not causing a repaint

    - by Michaela
    I'm writing a Blackberry app. I have a custom list field where I can select an item in the list which pushes the edit screen onto the stack. I edit the item and save, and when I pop that screen off so I am back on my list screen, I want to view the update I just made reflected in the list. I have done this on other screens which just had LabelFields and it worked fine. However, with the list screen, calling invalidate() seems to do nothing. I know the value has saved correctly through print lines, and I see the paint() method in the listfield is getting called. But the only way I can get the list field to update is to delete it from the screen and re-add it. That seems wrong. What am I doing wrong? public class ListTasksScreen extends MainScreen{ private TaskList tasks; private CustomListField taskListField; public ListTasksScreen (TaskList tasks){ super(); this.tasks = tasks; Vector incompleteTasks = tasks.getIncompleteTasks(); taskListField = new CustomListField(incompleteTasks, tasks); add(taskListField); } public void updateTaskList(TaskList t) { Vector incompleteTasks = t.getIncompleteTasks(); taskListField= new TaskListField(incompletetTasks, t); //I just want to call taskListField.invalidate() here. //the only thing that seems to work is deleting taskListField //and re-adding this.delete(taskListField); add(taskListField); } }

  • Implementing scroll view that is much larger than the screen view with random images

    - by pulegium
What I'm trying to do is to implement something like the fruit machine scroll view. Basically I have a sequence of images (randomly generated on the fly) and I want to allow the users to scroll through this line. There can fit approx 10 images on the screen, but the line is virtually unlimited. My question is what would be the best approach in implementing this? So far I've thought of having a UIImageView going across the screen (with width equal to the sum of 10 images) and the image associated with it would be a combination of 12 or so images, with two images falling out of the visible area, this would allow for smooth scrolling. If the user scrolls further, then I would reconstruct the image associated with the view so the new images are appended and the old one's are discarded. This image reconstruction business sounds bit complicated, so I was wondering if there's a more logical way to implement this. There's one more thing, I want to have two lines crossing each other with images, bit like conveyor belts crossing. If that makes any sense... Bit like below: V1 V2 H1 H2 H3 H4 H5 V4 V5 So if the vertical belt is moved it'd be like: V2 H3 H1 H2 V4 H4 H5 V5 V6 H1-H5, V1-V6 being automatically generated images. I'm not asking for the implementation code, just the thoughts on the principles how to implement this. Thanks!! :)
