  • How Linux programmers create GUI application without using IDE?

    - by CMW
Hi, I have read some comments in some forums saying that Linux programmers usually do not use any IDE. They prefer to use Vim and Emacs to do their programming. If I'm not mistaken, Vim and Emacs are just text editors, similar to notepad, but with syntax highlighting. I just want to know how Linux programmers create complicated GUI application without using any IDE. Thanks.

  • SQLite - ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE

    - by Alix Axel
MySQL has something like this: INSERT INTO visits (ip, hits) VALUES ('127.0.0.1', 1) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE hits = hits + 1; As far as I'm know this feature doesn't exist in SQLite, what I want to know is if there is any way to archive the same effect without having to execute two queries. Also, if this is not possible, what do you prefer: SELECT + (INSERT or UPDATE) or UPDATE (+ INSERT if UPDATE fails)

  • Is there a .NET equivalent of WebGoat

    - by PJB
Looking at this question the OWASP WebGoat project looks like a great way to learn about web security. Although the principles will equally to .NET applications I would prefer to use .NET based application. Does anybody know of a suitable .NET alternative?

  • How to edit an default Xcode template?

    - by HelloMoon
When I create an NSObject subclass, I always get an empty implementation. There are some things I always put in my code like pragma marks and -dealloc methods. I prefer to just delete stuff that I don't need over writing it with typos from scratch every time I need it. I need -dealloc and -init almost always, but they don't ship with the default template. Is there a way to customize what's in there?

  • Natural Language Processing in Ruby

    - by Joey Robert
I'm looking to do some sentence analysis (mostly for twitter apps) and infer some general characteristics. Are there any good natural language processing libraries for this sort of thing in Ruby? Similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/870460/java-is-there-a-good-natural-language-processing-library but for Ruby. I'd prefer something very general, but any leads are appreciated!

  • What good tiny or basic SVG editors are there?

    - by Sander Versluys
I'm in need for a good SVG editor which can produce valid xml according to spec of the Tiny SVG profile. I would prefer if the tool was open-source or free but good commercial tools are welcome as well. Note: I have used some online tools and Inkscape, but those do not allow specifying the spec they must adhere to.

  • Java: Is there a way to obtain the bytecode for a class at runtime?

    - by Adam Paynter
In Java, is there a way (at runtime) to obtain the bytecode which defined a particular class? Put another way, is there a way to obtain the byte[] array passed to ClassLoader.defineClass(String name, byte[] b, int off, int len) when a particular class was loaded? I see that this method is declared final, so creating a custom ClassLoader to intercept class definitions seems out of the question. In the past, I have used the class's ClassLoader to obtain the bytecode via the getResourceAsStream(String) method, but I would prefer a more canonical solution.

  • Best FTP wrapper for iPhone

    - by jamone
I know you use the C based networking API to do FTP communication but I'd prefer to use something a little higher level. I've seen a few Objective-C based wrappers but I'm not sure what to use. I don't need that complex of FTP interaction. Its just the typical create/delete dirs, upload/download files... What do you recommend?

  • WPF: How to refresh a window while debugging?

    - by Qwertie
I am debugging an algorithm that is being represented by a set of ViewModels. In order to debug this algorithm I would like to redraw the View while stepping through part of the algorithm. Is this possible? (I would prefer to just repaint, not do what they call "DoEvents" to process all events.)

  • jQuery library to autopopulate multiple fields

    - by user1134179
I have multiple textboxes with set character limits that together make up a code. There is value in the boxes being separated for a variety of reasons. I want to be able to paste a complete code in the first textbox and have it automatically populate all the textboxes. Is there a way to do this in javascript or a jquery library for this case? Currently I'm using jQuery autotab on each textbox and I'd prefer to keep that functionality.

  • Java for a C programmer?

    - by Brian
Hi, I have a lot of experience in C and Python, but I'd like to pick up some Java. I was curious if there was a "quick and dirty" guide tailored for people with previous CS background. I'd prefer free online resources but appreciate any suggestion. Thanks, Brian

  • Drop shadow on a div container?

    - by Mike
I have a searchbox with auto-suggest that pops a div up underneath it with multiple search string suggestions (like google). Is it possible to have drop shadow on the auto-suggest box with CSS or will I need a script of some sort? I tried a background image but the number of suggests can vary from 1 to 10 or 15. I'd prefer something that works in IE6+ and FF2+ if possible. Thanks!

  • How to add custom function in onClick-event jqGrid-mode editGridRow?

    - by Anatoliy
Firstly I used this call jQuery('#grid').jqGrid('editRow',id,true, pickdates);, it worked fine with UI Datepicker integration, but editRow is implemented for inline editing, but I prefer modal dialog, so I switched to editGridRow, now I can't find the way to call my custom function (pickdates) in onClick-event. My current call is jQuery('#grid').jqGrid('editGridRow',id,{closeOnEscape:true,width:400,savekey:[true,13]}); Thanks Anatoliy

  • Does EGit mandate installing JGit?

    - by Souper
After using Git from the command line for a while, I am ready for the convenience a GUI plugin (for Eclipse) can offer. However, I prefer a Git plugin similar to to MS Visual Studio's Git Source Control Provider which is only a wrapper around the already installed msysgit. I really don't want two different Git implementations accessing the same repository. EGit sounds perfect - if it can use the already installed msysgit in my PC. But can it?

  • Cannot call action method 'System.Web.Mvc.PartialViewResult Foo[T](T)' on controller 'Controller' be

    - by MedicineMan
    Cannot call action method 'System.Web.Mvc.PartialViewResult FooT' on controller 'Controller' because the action method is a generic method <% Html.RenderAction("Foo", model = Model}); %> Is there a workaround for this limitation on ASP MVC 2? I would really prefer to use a generic. The workaround that I have come up with is to change the model type to be an object. It works, but is not preferred: public PartialViewResult Foo<T>(T model) where T : class { // do stuff }

In Silverlight an AccordionItem is inside another one . When the inner one is selected, it can not expand its parent more which is already expanded to show its own content. • Method For Making Methods: Easy Ruby Metaprogramming

    - by yar
I have a bunch of methods like this in view helper def background "#e9eaec" end def footer_link_color "#836448" end I'd like these methods exposed to the view, but I'd prefer the helper to be a bit more concise. What's the best way to turn a hash, say, into methods (or something else)?
