  • deleting old unused images

    - by Ayyash
As we move on with our content-based websites, lots of images get dumped in our images folder, but we rarely come across self-committed monkyes that delete their files once they do not need it, which means, we end up with a huge list of images in one folder, and it is very tricky to clean it up. My question is (and i dont know if this is the right website to ask it), is there a tool that allows me to find out if an image has been requested by web in the last (n) months? my other general question is, how do you do it? how do you take control of your images folders? what policy do you enforce on developers to clean up? what measures do you take in order to decide what goes and what stays if you end up with an out-of-control situation? my suggestion was to rename the images folder, create a new one, copy the basic ones and wait for someone to complain about a broken image! :) i find this to be the most efficient.

  • Are applications optimized for XenApp?

    - by damitamit
Our IT dept are about to deploy virtualized apps using Citrix XenApp. One of these apps will be Dynamics AX 4.0 SP2, a ERP client (which I develop on). They have supposedly reached a roadblock because an external 'Dynamics AX Consultant' has told our IT Dept that Dynamics 4 will not work optimally on Citrix and will run very slow because it is not optimized for Citrix. We have it running in a Test environment now and seems ok. They have been told that the only 'solution' is to upgrade to Dynamics AX 2009 where supposedly this problem as been fixed. (not a small task for my team!) When I heard about this, I was quite surprised. From my brief knowledge of Citrix, I thought it would be application independent. How does the citrix app virtualization work, in that a particular app would work better than others on citrix? Would the speed of the virtualized app not just depend on the resources/network connection the citrix server has? FYI, Dynamics AX is a 3-tier client/server system, so the client will be accessing a AOS application server, which then accesses the database. Please enlighten me :)

  • One Database vs. Multiple Databases

    - by Ricardo
I need to design a system which represents multiple "projects", one per client in SQL Server , something similar to StackExchange... same data model, different sites (one per customer). Each project has the same data model, but is independent of all others. My inclination is to use one database to store all projects. What is your recommendation?

  • ADFS 2.0 and WebEx

    - by DavisTasar
We have a brand new deployment going on, where our University has purchased WebEx MeetingPlace. We have the Cisco CallManager component working, but the integration with Single Sign On with ADFS 2.0 has been nothing short of torture. The biggest problem I'm working with is that we use Split-Brain DNS, and our internal domain name versus external domain name is different. Trying to determine what credentials are getting passed back and forth, certificate errors for using the self-signed certificate, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this, or something similar? Do you have any tips, or watch-out-for-this, etc.? I've not worked with a Federated Authentication system before, and this scenario is very black-box-esque. Sorry, I'm also partially ranting as I'm frustrated.

  • Natively boot Virtualbox Image

    - by isync
I am faced with a Windows hardware/software problem left over from another person. It's on me to resolve. It's a mission critical setup. The situation is: I've got a physical server machine with: -Disk C:\ (one disk) containing a basic install of Windows Server 2008 R2, formerly Win Vista Pro, now gone. -Disk D:\ (software Raid) containing a VirtualBox disk image of a configured Windows Server 2008 R2 running SQL Server R2 among others. What shall I do now? Migrate all the stuff from the configured VM to the basic but natively installed C:\ Windows Server 2008 R2 (with the possibility of breaking stuff)? Or, Setting up the machine to "natively boot" the VM with the help of bcdedit.exe (something I've read about, what I've never done, what I don't know of if it works, if it hits performance, or if it is stable for production) For me, being old skool, I am in the process of de-virtualising everything (option 1). But I'd be happy if someone suggests I am ok to go down the "natively boot" route.

  • Duplicity Errno 2 - no such file or directory

Hello, I am trying to setup a script for backing up a linux box to a CIFS share. • directory services group query changing randomly

    - by yamspog
    I am receiving an unusual behaviour in my asp.net application. I have code that uses Directory Services to find the AD groups for a given, authenticated user. The code goes something like ... string username = "user"; string domain = "LDAP://DC=domain,DC=com"; DirectorySearcher search = new DirectorySearcher(domain); search.Filter = "(SAMAccountName=" + username + ")"; And then I query and get the list of groups for the given user. The problem is that the code was receiving the list of groups as a list of strings. With our latest release of the software, we are starting to receive the list of groups as a byte[]. The system will return string, suddenly return byte[] and then with a reboot it returns string again. Anyone have any ideas? code sample: DirectoryEntry dirEntry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + ldapSearchBase); DirectorySearcher userSearcher = new DirectorySearcher(dirEntry) { SearchScope = SearchScope.Subtree, CacheResults = false, Filter = ("(" + txtLdapSearchNameFilter.Text + "=" + userName + ")") }; userResult = userSearcher.FindOne(); ResultPropertyValueCollection valCol = userResult.Properties["memberOf"]; foreach (object val in valCol) { if (val is string) { distName = val.ToString(); } else { distName = enc.GetString((Byte[])val); } }

  • Any good reason to keep 32-bit desktop OS's

    - by Mark Henderson
Server software has been 64-bit only for a while now (Since Server 2008 R2 for Windows, even earlier for Exchange and Sharepoint) and even Ubuntu are pushing you away from 32-bit versions for their server OS's. But is there any good, quantifiable reason to keep a 32-bit desktop operating system maintained? We're preparing our Windows 8 images for the (unfortunate?) few that will be early adopters. The majority of our desktop computers have 4gb or less of RAM, but I would love to not have to bother supporting a 32-bit flavoured operating system any more. Any reason why I should?

  • Cisco 7206 error trying to copy running-config (Bad file number)

    - by jasondewitt
I have a cisco 7206 that terminates a bunch of pppoa sessions for dsl users. Today I noticed that if I tried to "show run" nothing happened. I mean that it doesn't show anything and just sends me right back to the command prompt. I decided I should probably try and back up the config and that is where I'm stuck. Any time I try to copy the running-config to tftp or to pcmcia card that I know is not full I get the following error: %Error opening system:/running-config (Bad file number) I get this error when I try to do anything with the running config. I've been googling around, but I haven't found any thing else that talks about this error. I've seen people say to erase the nvram and then try to "copy run start", but I don't want to erase the nvram until I can pull off a copy of the running-config. I would try to reboot it, but the startup-config that is on the nvram looks to be woefully out of date (good job me!). Any ideas what might be wrong? or how I can get the running config off the router?

  • Can't perform ODBC connection to MySQL server on local network

    - by Emmanuel
I have a wamp server running on LAN ip address 192.168.1.101 . From the browser on my PC which is on the LAN I can access the webserver and have as well set the phpmyadmin.conf file to be able to access the phpmyadmin interface. This works smoothly. On the wamp server I have a database which I'd need to access from any PC on the LAN using the MySQL Connector/ODBC. The problem is that I do not manage to setup the connection correctly. Here are the paramenters I use: Data Source Name: test_connection Description: test conenction Server: 192.168.1.101 Port: 3306 User: root Password: Database: The error message I get is the following: Connection Failed: [HY000][MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can's connect to MySql server on '192.168.1.101' (10060) Would anybody have a hint to set up correctly the connection?

  • Windows Storage Server 2008 hangs at logon

    - by ErJab
We have a Dell PowerVault NX-3000 server running Windows Server 2008. Every now and then, when I try to login, the server seems to hang at the Welcome screen after I type in the password. However, all other services on the server are running fine - users are able to print off the print server and access their files. It just won't let me login. Any idea why this is happening? P.S.: I can't look at the server logs, because it won't let me login in the first place. Remote administration is also disabled on the server, so I can't use Remote Administration tools to look at the logs.

  • Bash: Variable substitution in variable name with default value

    - by krissi
i have the following variables: # config file MYVAR_DEFAULT=123 MYVAR_FOO=456 #MYVAR_BAR unset # program USER_INPUT=FOO TARGET_VAR=<need to be set> If the USER_INPUT is "foo", I want TARGET_VAR to be the value of MYVAR_FOO (TARGET_VAR=456). If USER_INPUT is "bar" I want TARGET_VAR to be set to MYVAR_DEFAULT (123), because MYVAR_BAR is unset. I prefer it to be sh-compatible and as a substitution string. But it might also be bash compatible and/or in a function. I got these snippets: # Default values for variable (sh-compatible) echo ${MYVAR_FOO-$MYVAR_DEFAULT} # Uppercase (bash compatible) echo ${USER_INPUT^^} I would need something like this: TARGET_VAR="${MYVAR_${USER_INPUT^^}-$MYVAR_DEFAULT}" # or somecommand -foo "${MYVAR_${USER_INPUT^^}-$MYVAR_DEFAULT}" This is to switch a bunch of variables between multiple "profiles". In the example, FOO and BAR are profiles. New profiles should be added easily, in this example there would be an implicit profile named BAZ, too, all variables to their default values. Unfortunately it is not that easy. Do you have an idea to solve this? Thanks in advance, krissi

  • libpam-ldapd not looking for secondary groups

    - by Jorge Suárez de Lis
I'm migrating from libpam-ldap to libpam-ldapd. I'm having some trouble gathering the secondary groups from LDAP. On libpam-ldap, I had this on the /etc/ldap.conf file: nss_schema rfc2307bis nss_base_passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member The mapping is there because I'm using groupOfNames instead of groupOfUniqueNames LDAP class for groups, so the attribute naming the members is named member instead of uniqueMember. Now, I want to do the same using libpam-ldapd but I can't get it to work. Here's the relevant part of my /etc/nslcd.conf: base passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es map group uniqueMember member And this is the debug output from nslcd, when a user is authenticated: nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: connection from pid=12090 uid=0 gid=0 nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: nslcd_passwd_byuid(4004) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uidNumber=4004))") nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [8b4567] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_result(): end of results nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_authc("jorge.suarez","","su","***") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=jorge.suarez))") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(objectClass=posixAccount)") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_unbind() nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_sess_o("jorge.suarez","uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","su","/dev/pts/7","","jorge.suarez") It seems to me that it won't even try to look for groups. • MSTSC RDP over the public internet

    - by stuart Brand
My first question so please be gentle :) I have a client who is insisting that they have to let their third party vendor support access to there server directly from the internet via RDP. Our policy does not allow direct access to the infrastructure from outside of the data centre for administration except from an approved VPN connection and then virtual desktop there on to the servers. I am now in the situation where I must give good reasons why it is dangerous to use RDP over the public internet. any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance Stuart

  • HP ProCurve Port Mode Configuration Question Mark 2

    - by SvrGuy
We have a ProCurve Switch 2810-48G (J9022A). We need to disable auto negotiation on two ports and manually configure them to be full duplex gige ports. From the web GUI, Configuration Tab, Port Configuration sub tab, I am only presented with the option to configure the port as Auto - 1000. I take this to mean, auto negotiate duplex, manually configure the speed to be gige. From the CLI when I try to set 1000-full I get the following error: Value 1000-full is not applicable to port 39 (or whatever port I try) The exact commands I have entered are: config interface 39 speed-duplex 1000-full BTW: speed-duplex auto-1000 works ( I also tried full-1000 and that did not work either) How do I manually configure the port such that it is manually configured to use full duplex, 1000 mbs?

  • Can I have 2Gbit over 1Gbit Nics

    - by Daniel
So this really baffles me. Apparently because 1Gbit can transmit data in both directions simultaneously it should be possible to get 2Gbit of data transfer on a single NIC (1Gbit flow seend and 1Gbit receive). People claim that because 1Gbit is full-duplex (almost always) it is exactly 2Gbit in total. My intuition and electrical background tells me that something is not right here 4 twisted pairs 250Mbit capacity each gives 1Gbit. Unless it is really possible to transfer data in both directions simultaneously. I did a test with iperf. Ubuntu server 12.04 <-- MacBook Pro. Both with decent CPU speed. Tested speed of connection individually and on Mac I can see 112MB/s regardless which direction data is going. On Ubuntu with vnstat and ifstat I got 970Mbit speeds. Now, launching iperf in server mode on both machines at the same time and sending data using 2 iperf clients shows that I'm for example on Ubuntu box sending at 600Mbit, and receiving 350Mbit. which adds up to pretty much 1Gbit link. So to me there is no magical 2Gbit. Can someone confirm that or tell why I'm wrong? Another thing that confuses me i the fact that e.g. 24-port switch has for example: Throughput»up»to:»50.6Mpps Switching»capacity:»68Gbps Switch»fabric»speed:»88Gbps Which would suggest thay can handle 2GBit per port.

  • Is it possible to boot from a passthrough lsi2008 under esxi?

    - by Kurt
I currently have Solaris 11 Express running on bare metal. I'd like to convert the machine to an ESXI host and run the existing os as a virtual machine. I have ESXI setup, the virtual machine made, if I boot the vm from the recovery disk the drives and lsi2008 controller is visible. Everything looks like it should work, but the vm bios does not seem to try and boot from the controller. Is this just impossible?

  • net share not working as expected ?

    - by Riduidel
Hi, I'm creating a SMB share on a windows machine using the net share command. I write net share MyCompany_server___0.0.1-SNAPSHOT___server=E:\JavaWorkspace\Product\src\generated\server Then, this share is visible by other Windows machine in network shares of my machine, but not be accessed. Is there an option I forgot to set ? EDITED due to comment Accessing the share using an OpenSUSE machine brings the "The folder contents could not be displayed." message. Accessing the share using the Windows machine sharing that folder succeeds without any issue Accessing the share using another Windows machine displays MyCompany_server_0.0.1-SNAPSHOT_server is not accessible. Access refused

  • VPN being blocked somewhere between either my BT2700HGV and DLink DFL-210

    - by Dom
Hi, For some time I have been unable to get VPN working through my set up. I have a BT2700HGV Router (2 Wire Model) and as a firewall I have the Dlink DFL-210. You can't turn the firewall completely off on the BT2700HGV so I have it set to DMZplus mode for the Firewall. In theory this should then allow the VPN ports through. On the Firewall I have a series of rules set up and one is the pptp-allow rule which should allow access on the correct ports also. When I try to connect via VPN however the client machine gets an error 809. If I check the log on the Dlink firewall, I see this record: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1041315/packetdrop.PNG The laptop I am testing the vpn with is connected directly to the BT2700HGV router and I am trying to VPN from it onto 81.138.86.217. I can't work out whether I have some sort of problem in the set up of the rules on my firewall or if the BT router (even though it's in DMZplus mode) is still blocking port 1723. I read somewhere that there where problems because BTs Openzone held onto this port for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need further screen shots or information then please let me know. I wasn't able to create new tags for the router and firewall name or insert the picture in as I am new to the forum. Dom :-)

  • Redundant Connection Issue

    - by Adam
I'm trying to set up a redundant connection for our web hosting servers. I have a BGP-capable router connecting two lines from two separate ISP's, one fiber (primary), one DSL (failover). I've already confirmed that I can push routes into the DSL ISP's system, so long as they aren't malicious. My question is, what do I need to do on the fiber side to make those IP's routable through the DSL? Is there something I'm missing?
