  • logging one thread in Java using log4j

    I have an web application written in Java, and I have a thread-pool. The application is huge, and I cannot make major changes, for example, I cannot change log4j. I am executing a batch process in the thread pool, and I want to log everything that goes is executed to execute that process. There will always be just one thread active in the thread pool. Any ideas of how can I do that?

    I am looking to get into web application development. I am an undergrad CS major with experience in programming desktop apps, but with only basic knowledge regarding how web apps work. Any suggestions of where to start? Javascript, php, perl, ruby, python? Should I look into frameworks like django, seaside, ruby on rails, etc at first or wait until I am more experienced to use those?

    I accidentally deleted a major folder inside of the Tortoise-SVN Repro Browser. The working folder is unaffected. What is the recommended way to reverse that? Do I just Revert back to the previous version? Or do I need to do a Checkout to that previous version into a new folder and delete the old folder?

  • quick to setup version control that integrates well with VS2010

    I've got to a point where i want to start using version control for my project. Mainly for reverting to previous versions of files if things go belly up, doing diff comparisons. Nothing major. I want something that integrates well with visual studio, and something thats relatively simple to setup. - prefereably with a link to a tutorial for setting up would be nice. Im just using my pc for this so something like TFS is out of the question.

  • Help with google maps api, user allowed marker map

    Without telling everyone too much about my new idea for a website, Pretty much I need help, maybe someone can help write it up, with a site that has a simple map that allows any user to double click the map and make a marker. When the marker comes up I just want Title and Description available for edit(only once, so others cant change it).     I want to find the current selection of the data table whenever a selection changes. I can update other items using: <a4j:ajax render=":tmp,:tmp2" event="selectionchange"> But I cannot find the current selection - I think the major issue is that the UIExtendedDataTable backing does not get updated on the Ajax request. Is there a way to update the current selection on a selectionchange (Using RichFaces 4)?

  • How would one go about adding (minor) syntactic sugars to Java?

    Suppose I want to add minor syntactic sugars to Java. Just little things like adding regex pattern literals, or perhaps base-2 literals, or multiline strings, etc. Nothing major grammatically (at least for now). How would one go about doing this? Do I need to extend the bytecode compiler? (Is that possible?) Can I write Eclipse plugins to do simple source code transforms before feeding it to the standard Java compiler?

    I currently have 5 tables in MySQL database. Some of them share foreign keys and are interdependent of each other. I am displaying classes accordingly to their majors. Each class is taught during the fall, spring or all_year. In my database I have a table named semester which has an id, year, and semester fields. The semester field in particular is a tinyint that has three values 0, 1, 2. This signifies the fall, spring or all_year. When I display the query instead of having it show 0 or 1 or 2 can I have it show fall, spring etc? Extra: How can I add space to the end of each loop so the data doesn't look clustered?   • What do people find difficult about C pointers?

    From the number of questions posted here, it's clear that people have some pretty fundemental issues when getting their heads around pointers and pointer arithmetic. I'm curious to know why. They've never really caused me major problems (although I first learned about them back in the Neolithic). In order to write better answers to these questions, I'd like to know what people find difficult.   • VS 2010 problem?

    For a short time now I have had a problem or pain with the Breakpoint indicators, they do not show, yes I have the margin activated ( small grey stripe down the left side of the margin ). I have uninstalled all extensions, addins etc still no breakpoint indicator I have also deleted the .suo file with no go also. This is a major pain more than anything else. Anyone who has had this problem please help me out.
