  • Mac OS X Lion Apache Server not Found

    - by Burak Erdem
After upgrading to Lion 10.7.2 today, Apache virtual hosts are not working anymore. When I go to http://XYZ.localhost, it say "server not found". I am using Apache on my Mac OS X Lion and until today, it was working fine. I can access http://localhost but I can't access http://XYZ.localhost My /etc/hosts file is like below; 127.0.0.1 XYZ.localhost My /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf file is like below; <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName XYZ.localhost DocumentRoot /Library/WebServer/Documents/XYZ <Directory /Library/WebServer/Documents/XYZ> DirectoryIndex index.php AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> I think I once had this problem too, after another OS X update, but I can't remember how I solved it. Is it a user permission issue? Or is there something wrong with Apache or any other setting? EDIT: It seems like my /etc/hosts file is not working correctly. Even if I add something like 127.0.0.1 apple.com it still goes to the real apple.com. Maybe this might help to solve the problem.

  • Cannot browse remote networks even with WINS configured

    - by paradroid
As the NetBIOS protocol acts on Layer 2 and so is not routable, In order to enable network browsing of remote networks, WINS has been installed and configured on two domain controllers, both of which are on different networks. The WINS servers seem to be replicating with eachother, and each has 127.0.0.1 set as the Primary WINS Server in each of their LAN interface properties, with nothing entered for Secondary WINS Server. The DC which holds the PDC Emulator FSMO role has the Computer Browser service running and set to Auto start, and it has the WINS/NBT node type network setting at 0x8 (H-node - Hybrid node). Remote network browsing does not work. Is the WINS/NBT node type correct for this scenario? The reason why I think it may not be the right one is because I set the DHCP Server's 046 WINS/NBT node type option to 0x8 as well, after which the DHCP clients started to disappear from the Network folders. When that option is not set, does it default to B-node (Broadcast node)? Or could it be a problem with the WINS servers setup?

  • Debian, Apache2, CGI: paths issue

    - by Bubnoff
I have a perl form email script on the servers cgi-bin directory ( /usr/lib/cgi-bin ). /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch AddHandler cgi-script cgi pl Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> The issue is with paths. html calls script here: <form name="Request" method="post" action="http://server-test.local/cgi-bin/formprocessorpro.pl" onsubmit="return checkWholeForm49874(this)"> The directory with the templates and configs is passed here: <input type="hidden" name="base_path" value="../contact" /> The path to this form is: http://server-test.local/formstest/contact.htm No matter what variation I try for the base_path I get an error from the formprocessor script that it can't find the directory: An error occurred when opening the Form Configuration File (../contact/form.cfg): No such file or directory. I need to move this script from an old server, configured by a previous sysadmin, to a new server. Since cgi-bin is automatically linked to /usr/lib/cgi-bin and linked such that the script resides: http://server-test.local/cgi-bin/formprocessorpro.pl I would imagine that, given that the templates are in the webroot in a directory called contact, the correct path would be: ../contact Any ideas? It's been awhile since I've messed with CGI. Bubnoff

  • Immediately tell which output was sent to stderr

    - by Clinton Blackmore
When automating a task, it is sensible to test it first manually. It would be helpful, though, if any data going to stderr was immediately recognizeable as such, and distinguishable from the data going to stdout, and to have all the output together so it is obvious what the sequence of events is. One last touch that would be nice is if, at program exit, it printed its return code. All of these things would aid in automating. Yes, I can echo the return code when a program finishes, and yes, I can redirect stdout and stderr; what I'd really like it some shell, script, or easy-to-use redirector that shows stdout in black, shows stderr interleaved with it in red, and prints the exit code at the end. Is there such a beast? [If it matters, I'm using Bash 3.2 on Mac OS X]. Update: Sorry it has been months since I've looked at this. I've come up with a simple test script: #!/usr/bin/env python import sys print "this is stdout" print >> sys.stderr, "this is stderr" print "this is stdout again" In my testing (and probably due to the way things are buffered), rse and hilite display everything from stdout and then everything from stderr. The fifo method gets the order right but appears to colourize everything following the stderr line. ind complained about my stdin and stderr lines, and then put the output from stderr last. Most of these solutions are workable, as it is not atypical for only the last output to go to stderr, but still, it'd be nice to have something that worked slightly better.

  • Swap static public IPs without creating DNS conflicts?

    - by Jakobud
Our ISP is Comcast and we have 5 static public IPs from them that we use for various services, including customers connecting to our network, VPN, web, DNS, etc... We need more IP addresses from Comcast. Unfortunately, Comcast is telling us that they can't just simply give us 5 more addresses. They only give static IP addresses in blocks of 1, 5 or 13. In order for us to get more static IPs, they have to take away our current 5 static IPs and give us 13 new ones. How do we make this transition without causing all sorts of DNS chaos? We run public DNS servers, so we can make the DNS changes ourselves, but it will take some time obviously for those DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. Are there any easy ways to make this transition? Like create some type of fallback DNS entry or something? Surely there must be some sort of procedure for this kind of thing. The Comcast support guy was useless.

  • Munin graphing by CGI

    - by Vaughn Hawk
I have Munin working just fine, but any time I try to do cgi graphing - it just stops graphing... no errors in the log, nothing. I've followed the instructions here: http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/CgiHowto - and it should be working - here's my munin.conf setup, at least the parts that matter: dbdir /var/lib/munin htmldir /var/www/munin logdir /var/log/munin rundir /var/run/munin tmpldir /etc/munin/templates graph_strategy cgi cgiurl /usr/lib/cgi-bin cgiurl_graph /cgi-bin/munin-cgi-graph And then the host info yada yada - graph_strategy cgi and cgrurl are commented out in munin.conf - that's because if I uncomment them, graphing stops working. Again, I get no errors in logs, just blank images where the graphs used to be. Comment out cgi? As soon as munin html runs again, everything is back to normal. I'm running the latest version of munin and munin-node - I've tried fastcgi and regular cgi - permissions for all of the directories involved are munin:www-data - and my httpd.conf file looks like this: ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory /usr/lib/cgi-bin/> AllowOverride None SetHandler fastcgi-script Options ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> <Location /cgi-bin/munin-cgi-graph> SetHandler fastcgi-script </Location> Does anyone have any ideas? Without this working, at least from what I understand, Munin just graphs stuff, even if no one is looking at them - you add 100 servers to graph, and this starts to become a problem. Hope someone has ran into this and can help me out. Thanks!

  • How can I make the Windows 7 taskbar behave like a cross between the old Quick Launch and new Superbar?

    - by frumious
I really like the taskbar in Windows 7, I think combining buttons to launch apps and the icons that show your running apps is groovy. However, because I like having as much space as possible, I've got small icons enabled and shrunk the bar down to one row. I've also told it not to group the running apps unless there's no space left (to save me having to work harder to find the particular window I want), which also means that they have captions, and are thus quite wide. The (admittedly small) problem this gives me is that I can pin all my favourite apps to the bar, which looks much like the old Quick Launch bar, but when I launch them the running apps because much wider, and the unlaunched apps get lost amongst them. I can manually change the order to fix this, but next time I'll launch a different app and I'll be back to square one. What I'd prefer is for small unlaunched icons to be kept on the left, and wider running apps to move over to the right, which for me would be the best of both worlds. Is there any way I can organise that? I'm aware that one can use the traditional quick launch bar in Windows 7, but that's not what I'm after; I generally prefer the Windows 7 way.

  • Utility to LOGICALLY compare two xml files?

    - by Matthew
Right now we are attempting to build golden configurations for our environment. One piece of software that we use relies on large XML files to contain the bulk of its configuration. We want tot ake our lab environment, catalog it as our "golden configuration" and then be able to audit against that configuration in the future. Since diff is bytewise comparison and NOT logical comparison, we can't use it to compare files in this case (XML is unordered, so it won't work). What I am looking for is something that can parse the two XML files, and compare them element by element. So far we have yet to find any utilities that can do this. OS doesn't matter, I can do it on anything where it will work. The preference is something off the shelf. Any ideas? Edit: One issue we have run into is one vendor's config files will occasionally mention the same element several times, each time with different attributes. Whatever diff utility we use would need to be able to identify either the set of attributes or identify them all as part of one element. Tall order :)

  • hosts file seems to be ignored

    - by z4y4ts
I have almost fresh Ubuntu desktop box. OS was installed two weeks ago and updated from karmic repositories. Last week I had no problems with DNS. But this week something had changed. I'm not sure what and when, and not sure whether I changed any configs. So now I have some really weird situation. According to logs name resolving should work normally. /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost test 127.0.1.1 desktop /etc/host.conf order hosts, bind multi on /etc/resolv.conf # Generated by NetworkManager search search servers obtained via DHCP nameserver 192.168.0.3 /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd: compat group: compat shadow: compat hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 networks: files protocols: db files services: db files ethers: db files rpc: db files netgroup: nis But if fact it is not. user@test ~ping test PING localhost (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data. [skip] Pinging is ok. user@test ~host test test.mydomain.com has address xx.xxx.161.201 But pure I suspect that NetworkManager might cause this misbehavior, but don't know where to start to check it. Any thoughts, suggestions?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 - HP ProLiant DL380 G4 - Load Maxes Out / Unresponsive

    - by Brian S
Trying to post this question on here. I've posted it on the Ubuntu forums as well with no replies. Recently I upgraded an HP ProLiant DL380 G4 server from Ubuntu 10.04 server to Ubuntu 12.04 server. Upon doing so, the server will not - at random times - get to a load of 400+ and then become completely non-responsive. I use an SNMP graphing program (cacti) and the load steadily increases by about 10 every five minutes until it gets over 400 and the graphing stops. The graphs may not be accurate, but the CPU load averages about 3% before this happens - and right when the load starts increasing, it jumps to about 25% for 15 minutes and dramatically dips down to less than 1% (about 0.3%) until the graphing stops. I'm not able to open a SSH tunnel to the server to do anything. I've checked the /var/log/syslog and all logging stops at that time as well - with nothing else in there. The odd thing is - the server still responds to DNS queries for the zones it is authoritative on during this time - and at normal speed. Just not sure what the next step would be in order to find out what is going on - and how this issue can be corrected. The server cannot stay with Ubuntu 10.04 Server and needs to stay upgraded.

  • Xen domU passwd file overwritten with console log output

    - by malfy
I was setting up a Debian Xen domU and after booting it fine, I added basic configuration to /etc/network/interfaces and ran /etc/init.d/networking restart. This failed so I decided to reboot. After the reboot I also ran xm shutdown box. When dropped to a shell prompt it wouldn't let me login. • HUDSON: how to manually encode the LDAP managerPassword?

    - by user64204
I need to know how to manually encode the LDAP managerPassword which controls the authentication to hudson: <securityRealm class="hudson.security.LDAPSecurityRealm"> <server>ldap.example.org</server> <rootDN>dc=example,dc=org</rootDN> <userSearchBase>ou=People</userSearchBase> <userSearch>uid={0}</userSearch> <groupSearchBase>ou=Groups</groupSearchBase> <managerDN>cn=admin,dc=example,dc=org</managerDN> <managerPassword>{HOW DO I ENCODE THIS?}</managerPassword> </securityRealm> This question has already been raised here: http://jenkins.361315.n4.nabble.com/How-to-encode-the-LDAP-managerPassword-td2295570.html The answer was to configure the managerPassword field via the hudson web interface. The problem we have is that in order to configure LDAP one must be authenticated to hudson, which we cannot do because our LDAP authentication is currently broken (password mismatch between LDAP and the hudson configuration). Can someone explain how to manually encode the LDAP managerPassword? Thanks

  • Cisco Router - Add a missing MIB file

    - by Jonathan Rioux
I have a Cisco 881w, and I would like to setup NBAR in my NetFlow Analyzer. But it says that my router misses this MIB in order to allow NFA to poll the router with snmp to get NBAR infos. From the FAQ page of the NetFlow Analyzer website, it responds to my error: Q. I am able to issue the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NFA says my router does not support NBAR, Why? A. Earlier version of IOS supports NBAR discovery only on router. So you can very well execute the command "ip nbar protocol-discovery" on the router and see the results. But NBAR Protocol Discovery MIB(CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB) support came only on later releases. This is needed for collecting data via SNMP. Please verify that whether your router IOS supports CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB. The missing MIB is: CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB I found it here: ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v2/CISCO-NBAR-PROTOCOL-DISCOVERY-MIB.my But how can I add this MIB into the router? The IOS of my router is: c880data-universalk9-mz.151-3.T1.bin

    - by redconservatory
I am running some pretty basic php sites on Snow Leopard. Usually I just go to my browser and type anything like: localhost http://localhost 127.0.0.1 mycomputername.local But suddenly, after installing a gem file (compass) none of this is working. I tried sudo apachectl restart Thinking that I just needed to restart apache, but no luck. My error log looks like: [Mon Mar 26 09:39:08 2012] [warn] child process 45443 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45223 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45043 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45438 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45049 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45439 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45224 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45440 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45441 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45442 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:10 2012] [warn] child process 45443 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Mon Mar 26 09:39:11 2012] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down I also tried sudo apachectl -k start And I got the error: Syntax error on line 182 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Illegal option When I look at the code around that line, I see: <Directory /> Options Indexes MultiViews + FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory>

When I type in www.site1.com it serves pages from /home/eamorr/site1/index.php Same for www.site2.com, www.site3.com and www.site4.com However, when I type in to the address bar of a browser without the www, it always redirects to site1.com! i.e. site1.com - site1.com site2.com - site1.com site3.com - site1.com site4.com - site1.com How do I configure apache to do the following: site1.com - site1.com site2.com - site2.com site3.com - site3.com site4.com - site4.com Here is my default config: ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.site1.com DocumentRoot /home/eamorr/sites/site1.com/www DirectoryIndex index.php index.html <Directory /home/eamorr/sites/site1.com/www> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Options -Indexes AllowOverride all Order allow, deny allow from all php_value session.cookie_domain ".site1.com" #Added by EOH for redirection RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^([^/.]+)/?$ driver.php?uname=$1 [L] </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. • Configure tomcat behind loadbalancer to respond on HTTP and HTTPS

    - by user253530
I have 2 tomcat machines behind a load balancer on Amazon EC2. Until now The load balancer was configured to respond only on https. So in order to access our services you would go to https://url. Tomcat was configured to listen on 8080 but the connector had additional params that would tell tomcat that it is behind a proxy and that it should respond on HTTPS 443. The connector looks like this: <Connector scheme="https" secure="true" proxyPort="443" proxyHost="my.domain.name" port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" redirectPort="8443" useBodyEncodingForURI="true" URIEncoding="UTF-8" /> What i would like to do is to open port 80 on the load balancer and basically allow traffic on HTTP and HTTPS. I've configured the load balancer to redirect all HTTP traffic to the tomcat machines on port 8088. I was thinking that i could define a new connector so that all HTTPS traffic goes to 8080 and HTTP to 8088. Unfortunately i did not succeed. Here is my connector <Connector port="8088" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" redirectPort="8443" useBodyEncodingForURI="true" URIEncoding="UTF-8" /> Am I missing something? Thanks

  • What privilege level is required on a Windows client workstation on an ActiveDomain to break file lo

    - by Mike Burton
I'm not sure if I should be asking this here or on StackOverflow, but here goes: I'm part of a team maintaining a document management application, and I'm trying to figure out Windows file locking permissions. We use a utility somebody downloaded years ago called psunlock to remotely close all locks on a file. We recently discovered that this does not work across different domains on our VPN. A little bit of digging lead me to the samba manual's discussion of file locking. I still don't really "get it", though. Does anyone have any insight to share into how the process of locking and breaking locks on files works in a network context? My thinking is that privileges are required both on the file appliance and on the client workstations which hold locks. Is that accurate? Can anyone give a more specific version? Ideally I'm looking for something along the lines of A user must have privilege level X in order to break locks held from a client workstation. In practice I'd be happy with a hotlink to a good white paper on the subject.

  • Connection refused in ssh tunnel to apache forward proxy setup

    - by arkascha
I am trying to setup a private forward proxy in a small server. I mean to use it during a conference to tunnel my internet access through an ssh tunnel to the proxy server. So I created a virtual host inside apache-2.2 running the proxy, the proxy_http and the proxy_connect module. I use this configuration: <VirtualHost localhost:8080> ServerAdmin xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ServerName yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/proxy-error_log CustomLog /var/log/apache2/proxy-access_log combined <IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyRequests On <Proxy *> # deny access to all IP addresses except localhost Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 </Proxy> # The following is my preference. Your mileage may vary. ProxyVia Block ## allow SSL proxy AllowCONNECT 443 </IfModule> </VirtualHost> After restarting apache I create a tunnel from client to server: #> ssh -L8080:localhost:8080 <server address> and try to access the internet through that tunnel: #> links -http-proxy localhost:8080 http://www.linux.org I would expect to see the requested page. Instead a get a "connection refused" error. In the shell holding open the ssh tunnel I get this: channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused Anyone got an idea why this connection is refused ?

  • How does Linux determine the SCSI address of a disk?

    - by Chris Sears
Greetings, I'm working with RHEL 5.5 guest VMs under VMware ESX 4. When I configure the virtual disks in the VM hardware settings, each disk has a SCSI address in the format "N:M". For example, "1:3" would mean SCSI host number 1 and SCSI target ID 3. When I look at the disk info from the VM's BIOS or a Windows OS, the detected SCSI address info matches up with the virtual hardware settings. But under Linux, the SCSI address components don't match up, at least not completely or consistently. I've tried the three supported virtual SCSI and SAS drivers and they all seem to be "broken", but in different ways. Here's a list of the virtual hardware addresses vs what was detected under Linux with each of the drivers: Driver vHW Addr Linux Addr -------- -------- ---------- LSI SAS 0:0 0:0 LSI SAS 0:3 0:1 LSI SAS 0:6 0:2 LSI SCSI 1:1 2:1 LSI SCSI 1:4 2:4 LSI SCSI 1:7 2:7 pvSCSI 2:2 1:2 pvSCSI 2:5 1:5 pvSCSI 2:8 1:8 My main question is why does this happen under Linux? The next question is: how do I get it fixed or fix it myself? If I was going to guess, I'd say it's an issue with how the kernel is handing out the SCSI host number and how the Linux SCSI driver (included with VMware tools) is detecting the SCSI target number. Perhaps the order the drivers are loaded also has something to do with the issue. I'm guessing this would not involve udev, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! PS. My environment is VMware, but I don't need an answer for these drivers specifically. I imagine this might be a problem with any SCSI driver under Linux.

  • Why apache throws 403 on index file after install?

    - by den-javamaniac
Hi. I've just installed apache and php from sources using next commands: ./configure --prefix="/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17" \ --enable-info --enable-rewrite --enable-usertrack --enable-mime-magic for apache and ./configure --with-apxs2=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/bin/apxs \ --prefix=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-config-file-path=/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/php \ --with-mysql=mysqlnd for php. After adjusting configuration (httpd.conf) and starting apache it gives a 403 response on http://localhost:8060/index.html (presuming that 8060 is used) request. There are next directory settings in httpd.conf: <Directory "/mnt/workspace/servers/web/apache-2.2.17/htdocs"> ... Order allow, deny Allow from all ... </Directory> <IfModule dir_module> DirectoryIndex index.html index.php </IfModule> It should be noted that I've got apache on a mounted (default auto mount configured while installing ubuntu) partition. • Help! The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to fr

    - by michael.lukatchik
We're running SQL Server 2000. In our database, we have an "Orders" table with approximately 750,000 rows. We can perform simple SELECT statements on this table. However, when we want to run a query like SELECT TOP 100 * FROM Orders ORDER BY Date_Ordered DESC, we receive the following message: Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 6 The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space. We have other tables in our database which are similar in size of the amount of records that are in the tables (i.e. 700,000 records). On these tables, we can run any queries we'd like and we never receive a message about 'tempdb being full'. To resolve this, we've backed up our database, shrunk the actual database and also shrunk the database and files in the tempdb system database, but this hasn't resolved the issue. The size of our log file is set to autogrow. We're not sure where to go next. Are there any ideas why we still might be receiving this message? Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 6 The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space.

  • Balancing internal services using a Cisco CSS 11501

    - by Ladadadada
First, the background to the problem: I have a Cisco CSS11501 that I am using to load balance a few web servers. These web servers have two network interfaces, one internal and one external and we are sending the requests to the internal interface. We have the CSS configured to do NAT because our webservers need to see the client's IP address. Because the TCP packets hit the webservers with a source address on the Internet, the webserver tries to send the packet back to the client over the external interface and not through the load balancer. In order to stop these requests being sent back out to the Internet via the external interface, we added a routing rule on these boxes so that all traffic with a source address on the internet will use the load balancer as the gateway. This part works fine. What I would also like to to is use the CSS as a load balancer for internal services such as our MySQL slaves. When I do this, I run into a similar problem; the TCP connection goes from the web server to the load balancer and then from the load balancer to the MySQL slave but the CSS spoofs a source address of the original webserver. The MySQL slave then tries to send the response directly to the webserver via the internal network and not via the load balancer. The ideal solution would be to tell the CSS not to do source address spoofing on the internal network and only do it for requests originating on the Internet. Is this possible ? Failing that, is there a way of directing the load balanced traffic back through the load balancer while keeping the other traffic (say SSH) purely on the internal network ? Is there another way of using the CSS11501 to load balance internal services ?
