• Unable to save to wincache from cakePHP shell

    - by Phillaf
    I'm trying to retrieve the weather from wunderground.com through their API, and store it in wincache. For testing purposes I made this function in the News model: public function updateWeather(){ $results = file_get_contents('http://api.wunderground.com/api/**api_key**/conditions/q/CA/Montreal.json'); $results = json_decode($results); return Cache::write('weather', $results); } It works fine when I call this from the controller. However, I can't figure why that same function doesn't work when called from the console. I made this shell in order to eventually add this to windows task scheduler. class WeatherShell extends AppShell { public $uses = array('News'); public function main() { $this->News->updateWeather(); } } When running this, I see that $results is correctly populated. I get 'true' from Cache::write(), however, I get 'false' when trying to read. What subtlety am I missing?

  • jQuery .ajax call to bit.ly returns results in IE but not FF or Chrome

    - by Ian Quigley
    I am trying to call to the bit.ly URL shortening service using jQuery with an .ajax call.

  Shorten

This works in IE8 but does not work in FireFox (3.5.9) nor in Chrome. In both cases 'json' is null. Headers in IE8 GET http://api.bit.ly/shorten?ver..[SNIP]..dtotheinternet.com HTTP/1.1 Accept: application/json, text/javascript, */* Accept-Language: en-US Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 6.0; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729) Host: api.bit.ly Connection: Keep-Alive Headers in Chrome GET http://api.bit.ly/shorten?versio..[SNIP]..nectedtotheinternet.com HTTP/1.1 Host: api.bit.ly Connection: keep-alive User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1045 Safari/532.5 Origin: file:// Accept: application/json, text/javascript, */* Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate,sdch Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8 Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 So the only obvious difference is that Chrome is sending "Origin: file://" and I've no idea how to stop it doing that.

  • Windows Command Line

    - by Markus O'Reilly
    Does anyone know how to break out of a for loop when it's typed directly into the windows command-line? I know you can use gotos and labels to break out of it when it's in a batch file, but I can't find anything about breaking out of one on the command line. Here's a simple example: C:> for /l %i in (1,0,1) do @ping -n 1 google.com || (echo ^G & msg user "Google is down!" & QUIT) This should infinitely ping google.com. If it ever fails, it beeps (echo ^G), displays a message box to the user "user" that says "Google is down!", and QUITs. I don't know how to do the quit part though. I guess I could do something like taskkill /f /im cmd.exe, but I was looking for something more elegant. Any tips?

  • How to debug GWT using Ant

    - by Phuong Nguyen de ManCity fan
    I know that the job would be simpler if I use Google Plugin for Eclipse. However, in my situation, I heavily adapted Maven and thus, the plugin cannot suit me. (In fact, it gave me the whole week of headache). Rather, I relied on a ant script that I learned from http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/tutorial/appengine.html The document was very clear; I follow the article and successfully invoked DevMode using ant devmode. However, the document didn't tell me about debugging GWT (like Google Plugin for Eclipse can do). Basically, I want to add some parameter to an ant task that expose a debug port (something like (com.google.gwt.dev.DevMode at localhost:58807)) so that I can connect my eclipse to. How can I do that?

  • How to create a BBC style (facebox?) help popup

    - by Ian Batten
    Hi guys, I have tried to take apart the code, but can't seem to replicate it. On the BBC weather homepage, http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/, you will see a little help quetionmark in a circle in the top right corner or some of the boxes. When you click on it, it brings up a nice help popup, that looks a little like facebox. The main thing I like about this, is the little arrow that points back to the help button to the right of the container. Facebox is just a standard square. If anyone knows how to replicate this, some help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Ian

  • Most efficient way to store list structure in XML

    - by Mike
    Starting a new project and was planning on storing all of my web content in XML. I do not have access to a database so this seemed like the next best thing. One thing I'm struggling with is how to structure the XML for links (which will later be transformed using XSLT). It needs to be fairly flexible as well. Below is what I started with, but I'm starting to question it. <links>

Google

Yahoo
<links>

Search

</links> That should get transformed into Google Yahoo Search Perhaps something like this might work better. <links>

Yahoo

</links> Does anyone perhaps have a link that talks about structuring web content properly in XML? Thank you. :)

  • jQuery Text to Link Script?

    - by Elijah Manor
    Does anyone know of a script that can select all text references to URLs and automatically replace them with anchor tags pointing to those locations? For example: http://www.google.com would automatically turn into http://www.google.com Note: I am wanting this because I don't want to go through all my content and wrap them with anchor tags.

  • php , SimpleXML, while loop

    - by Michael
    I'm trying to get some information from ebay api and store it in database . I used simple xml to extract the information but I have a small issue as the information is not displayed for some items . if I make a print to the simple_xml I can see very well that the information is provided by ebay api . I have $items = "220617293997,250645537939,230485306218,110537213815,180519294810"; $number_of_items = count(explode(",", $items)); $xml = $baseClass->getContent("http://open.api.ebay.com/shopping?callname=GetMultipleItems&responseencoding=XML&appid=Morcovar-c74b-47c0-954f-463afb69a4b3&siteid=0&version=525&IncludeSelector=ItemSpecifics&ItemID=$items"); writeDoc($xml, "api.xml"); //echo $xml; $getvalues = simplexml_load_file('api.xml'); // print_r($getvalue); $number = "0"; while($number < 6) { $item_number = $getvalues->Item[$number]->ItemID; $location = $getvalues->Item[$number]->Location; $title = $getvalues->Item[$number]->Title; $price = $getvalues->Item[$number]->ConvertedCurrentPrice; $manufacturer = $getvalues->Item[$number]->ItemSpecifics->NameValueList[3]->Value; $model = $getvalues->Item[$number]->ItemSpecifics->NameValueList[4]->Value; $mileage = $getvalues->Item[$number]->ItemSpecifics->NameValueList[5]->Value; echo "item number = $item_number
localtion = $location
". "title = $title
price = $price
manufacturer = $manufacturer". "
model = $model
mileage = $mileage
"; $number++; } the above code returns item number = localtion = title = price = manufacturer = model = mileage = item number = 230485306218 localtion = Coventry, Warwickshire title = 2001 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOGUE AUTO GREEN price = 3635.07 manufacturer = Land Rover model = Range Rover mileage = 76000 item number = 220617293997 localtion = Crawley, West Sussex title = 2004 CITROEN C5 HDI LX RED price = 3115.77 manufacturer = Citroen model = C5 mileage = 76000 item number = 180519294810 localtion = London, London title = 2000 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.4 SILVER 16V NEED GEAR BOX price = 905.06 manufacturer = Right-hand drive model = mileage = Standard Car item number = localtion = title = price = manufacturer = model = mileage = As you can see the information is not retrieved for a few items ...
