I appreciate that XML has many years on JSON, during which time it has been widely adopted. However, the fact that it is so well-adopted appears to be the one decisive reason why it should continue to be used. Is there a good reason why XML should not gradually be phased out in favour of JSON?

    CouchDB is great, I like its replication functionality, but it's a bit larger and slower when used in desktop application. As I tested in intel duo core cpu, 12 seconds to load 10000 docs 10 seconds to insert 10000 doc, but need 20 seconds to update view, so total is 30 seconds Is there any No SQL implementation which has the same replication functionality, but the size is very small, and the speed is quite good( 1 second to load 10000 docs).     Is there a good way to remove HTML from a Java string? A simple regex like replaceAll("\\<.*?>","") will work, but things like &amp; wont be converted correctly and non-HTML between the two angle brackets will be removed (ie the .*? in the regex will disappear).

    Im just wondering how i use xmlencoder to serialize ArrayList where foo is my own made class. Do i have to do anything in particular, ie define my own xml structure first and then call toString on each value in my list and write it out?     I am using Zend Framework and it works fine in Firefox/Safari. In IE I have a problem with images not loading. Say I have an image in my public folder and I have this in my page: <img src="/photos/category/img.jpg" /> Well that works, except when I'm at a URL with a controller like http://www.example.com/controller/action I can see why, but I want a good solution to properly creating these img src links that works across browsers.

  • Count the number of lines in a file with Ruby, without reading entire file into memory

    I'm processing huge data files (millions of lines each). Before I start processing I'd like to get a count of the number of lines in the file, so I can then indicate how far along the processing is. I am using Ruby, and because of the size of the files, it would not be practical to read the entire file into memory just to count how many lines there are. Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to do this?

    Does anyone know of a good way to encrypt and decrypt strings using VB6 to ensure sensitive data is secure? Also, is there an encryption method that can be shared between VB6 and .NET? Example: The encrypted string will be written to a database using a VB6 application, but the value also need to be read an decrypted in a c# .net application using the .net framework if possible.   • Generic Open Source REST Client?

    I want a simple client that takes a few parameters (Method, URL, Parameters), makes an HTTP request, and shows me the results that were returned. A browser obviously can easily send GET and POST requests, but I have no good ideas on DELETE and UPDATE. Did I miss something in browser 101, or is there a common freeware tool to do this? I've seen other threads that give me Java APIs for a simple client, but that's not what I'm looking for.
