  • Making web server in C with native scripting support

    - by guitar-
I'm an intermediate C developer, trying to get better. I want to make a very basic and lightweight HTTP server with its own scripting language. Could I use something like Lua for scripting? If not, what? I don't want to use CGI/FastCGI like Apache does for PHP in most cases, I want my server to natively support my scripting language.

However, when I go to mysite.com/myapp/index I do not get redirected to the login page even though I am logged out. Why is that and how do I fix it?

  • Dynamic SQL queries in code possible?

    - by SeanD
Instead of hard coding sql queries like Select * from users where user_id =220202 can these be made dynamic like Select * from $users where $user_id = $input. Reason i ask is when changes are needed to table/column names i can just update it in one place and don't have to ask developers to go line by line to find all references to update. It is very time consuming. And I do not like the idea of exposing database stuff in the code. My major concern is load time. Like with dynamic pages, the database has to fetch the page content, same way if queries are dynamic first system has to lookup the references then execute the queries, so does it impact load times? I am using codeignitor PHP. If it it possible then the next question is where to store all the references? In the app, in a file, in the DB, and how?

    - by Coder_sLaY
    I am developing an application using jQuery mobile 1.1.0 RC1 and phonegap 1.5.0 I have a single HTML page which contains all the pages in it as a div(through data-role="page") here is my code <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <title>Index Page</title> <!-- Adding viewport --> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <!-- Adding Phonegap scripts --> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="cordova/cordova-1.5.0.js"></script> <!-- Adding jQuery mobile and jQuery scripts & CSS --> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery/jquery-1.7.1.min.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="jquerymobile/jquery.mobile-1.1.0-rc.1.min.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery/jquery.validate.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquerymobile/jquery.mobile-1.1.0-rc.1.min.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/colors.css"> <script type="text/javascript"> function page1(){ $.mobile.changePage("#page2", { transition : "slide" }); } function page2(){ $.mobile.changePage("#page1", { transition : "slide" }); } $("#page1").live("pageshow", function(e) { $.ajax({ type : 'GET', cache : false, url : "http://192.168.1.198:9051/something.xml" + "?time=" + Date.now(), data : { key : "value" }, dataType : "xml", success : function(xml) { console.log("Success Page1"); }, error : function(xhr) { } }); }); $("#page2").live("pageshow", function(e) { $.ajax({ type : 'GET', cache : false, url : "http://192.168.1.198:9051/something.xml" + "?time=" + Date.now(), data : { key : "value" }, dataType : "xml", success : function(xml) { console.log("Success Page2"); }, error : function(xhr) { } }); }); </script> <body> <div data-role="page" id="page1"> <div data-role="header">Page 1</div> <div data-role="content"> <input type="text" name="page1GetTime" id="page1GetTime" value="" /><a href="#" data-role="button" onclick="page1()" id="gotopage2"> Go to Page 2 </a> </div> </div> <div data-role="page" id="page2"> <div data-role="header">Page 2</div> <div data-role="content"> <input type="text" name="page2GetTime" id="page2GetTime" value="" /><a href="#" data-role="button" onclick="page2()" id="gotopage1">Go to Page 1</a> </div> </div> </body> Now when i click to "Go to page2" then page2 will be shown along with one ajax request .. If i keep on moving from one page to another then a ajax request is made.. This request stops responding after 4 to 5 request... Why is it happening?

  • How to change language/region in a YQL search.spelling/search.suggestion query?

    - by Francisco Noriega
Hello, I'm trying to use YQL's spelling and search suggestions, but as much as I try I cant find a way to change the language/region for the query, how is this done? I want to look for spelling/suggestions in spanish/mexico ("es-MX") I'm pretty happy with the results I get for queries in English, but when looking in Spanish I get no results: select * from search.suggest where query="dolor de cabeza" <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <query xmlns:yahoo="http://www.yahooapis.com/v1/base.rng" yahoo:count="0" yahoo:created="2010-11-22T17:41:13Z" yahoo:lang="en-US"> <results/> </query> I've looked around for a way to change yahoo:lang="en-US" to yahoo:lang="es-MX" but I cant find andy documentation about it. Thanks!

  • Security Resources Defining, Static/Dynamic

    - by mmontalvo
I am implementing a simple(hopefully) security manager within an application. Is it better to have predefined(static) roles, custom roles(dynamic)? I am leaning more towards dynamic groups or roles only because then it would not require a redeploy to update the system. Also, what would be the best approach to define resources in general? The application has a database that can hold either the static or dynamic values.

  • How many rewrite rules should I expect to manage?

    - by Scott Ackerson
I'm dealing with a hosting team that is fairly skiddish of managing many rewrite rules. What are your experiences with the number of rules your sites are currently managing? I can see dozens (if not more) coming up as the site grows and contracts and need to set expectations that this isn't out of the norm. Thanks

  • Javascript Application Book

    - by Jormundir
Can anyone recommend a good book on Javascript module/application development. I'm a Software Engineer, so I don't need all the intro to programming stuff. What I'm really looking for is: How do you bundle the html/css/javascript together so that you can make one include that will load the whole application. I.e.: <div id="myapplication"></div> ... ... <script src="myapplication.js"> Design patterns are always welcome. I've already read Javascript the good parts, and online guides, but it's hard to find a comprehensive guide/tutorial for specifically this. There's a lot of good "this is a javascript application" and "this is a scalable framework", but I haven't had any luck with "This is how you build a javascript application, including the html and css, and this is how you deliver it nicely". I'm building a small application to start, so I'm not interested in scalability and large-scale development practices, just a nice and comprehensive guide to get me off the ground.

  • How to make technical training session useful and successful for trainee?

    - by metal-gear-solid
Are these suggestions good to give for a successful training session? Practice time should be always given immediate after technical training? usually after receiving any technical session about any new thing we do routine work. If we don't do practice just after training, later when we do any work related to that training then we feel we need training again. So if we are getting training today and will not use it for some period of time (15 -30 -60 days) then the training is of no use, as it is at the wrong time. I.e. We will forget many things Any other suggestions which i should give? I'm trainee not trainer. What suggestion should i give to trainer/organizer?

  • Can an html element have multiple ids?

    - by webmat
I understand that an id must be unique within an HTML/XHTML page. My question is, for a given element, can I assign multiple ids to it? <div id="nested_element_123 task_123"></div> I realize I have an easy solution with simply using a class. I'm just curious about using ids in this manner.

  • IE sends multiple cookies with same name?

    - by akach
I have a strange bug that occurs in IE7/XP and IE8/Vista on my website. IE sends two cookies named PHPSESSID. How to reproduce: Clear cookies in IE (not necessary if you never visited unisender.com). Visit unisender.com (exactly without www to reproduce!) and it will redirect to www.unisender.com Login with any valid username and password (I've registered username testmsdn with password testmsdn - feel free to use for testing) Run your favourite capture-the-traffic program (I prefer wireshark) Now click any menu link (e.g. "messages") Look at captured traffic - you will see that IE sends double PHPSESSID cookie (and you are logged out after click because of this). It seems like first PHPSESSID is from unisender.com and second from www.unisender.com. Captured sample: GET /en/letter_list HTTP/1.1 Accept: image/gif, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, application/x-ms-application, application/vnd.ms-xpsdocument, application/xaml+xml, application/x-ms-xbap, application/x-shockwave-flash, / Referer: http://www.unisender.com/en/intro Accept-Language: ru User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.21022; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; FDM; .NET CLR 3.0.30729) Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Host: www.unisender.com Connection: Keep-Alive Cookie: authchallenge=3a9cfcfc9fe33822e3e21d75c8a3d3e4; PHPSESSID=14ea1cb133632951592397c86eaf037e; us_reg_ref=unknown; us_reg_url=http%3A%2F%2Funisender.com%2F; __utma=1.778517853.1271204400.1271204400.1271204400.1; __utmb=1.3.10.1271204400; __utmc=1; __utmz=1.1271204400.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none); PHPSESSID=65e110aeb995a66b9dc8da5656c7a3da; last_login_name=testmsdn I've tried to use session and non-session cookies, tried to use .unisender.com instead of unisender.com for cookie - nothing helps. I suppose there should not be cookies with same name. Am I right? Is it a bug in IE? If it's a bug then is there a workaround? Or am I wrong and it's an expected behavior?

  • Avoiding try/catch hell in my web pages

    - by Shaun_web
I am writing an ASP.NET website, which is a new framework for me. I find that I have a try/catch block in literally every method of my codebehind. All these try/catch blocks do is catch the exception and then pop-up an error message to the user. Isn't there some sort of global error handler in ASP.NET? It's worth noting that my error handling is within control (ASCX) pages, and I would like a way to simply get each ASCX to handle its own errors without forcing all error handling just to a single master page or a redirect...

  • $_FILES is null, $_POST is not null

    - by Cory Dee
When I am going to upload a file, my $_POST variable knows the file name, but the $_FILES variable is null. I've used this code before, so I'm really stumped. Here's what I'm using for input: <label for="importFile">Attach Resume:</label> <input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="10000000"> <input type="file" name="importFile" id="importFile" class="validate['required']"> And for processing: $uploaddir = "E:/Sites/OPL/2008/assets/apps/newjobs/resumes/"; $uploadfile = $uploaddir . time() . '-' . urlencode(basename($_FILES['importFile']['name'])); if (!move_uploaded_file($_FILES['importFile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile)) { echo 'Error uploading file. Error number: ' . $_FILES['importFile']['error']; var_dump($_FILES['importFile']); echo $_POST['importFile']; die(); } Which is giving me this result: Error uploading file. Error number: NULL Maintaining The OPL Website.doc Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Fetching only the first record in the table (via the view) without changing controller?

    - by bgadoci
I am trying to only fetch the first record in my table for display. I am creating a site where a user can upload multiple images and attach to a post but I only want to display the first image view for each post. For further clarification posts belong_to projects. So when you are on the projects show page you see multiple posts. In this view I only want to display the first image for each post. Is there a way to do this in the view without affecting the controller (as later I want to allow users to browse all photos through the addition of a lightbox). Here is my /views/posts/_post.html.erb code: <% div_for post do %> <% post.photos.each do | photo | %> <%= image_tag(photo.data.url(:large), :alt => '') %> <%= photo.description %> <% end unless post.photos.first.new_record? rescue nil %> <%= link_to h(post.link_title), post.link %> <%= h(post.description) %> <%= link_to 'Manage this post', edit_post_path(post) %> <% end %> UPDATE: I am using a photos model to attach multiple photos to each post and using paperclip here.

  • What are the typical reasons Javascript developed on IE fails on Firefox?

    - by lwburk
Inspired by this post it occurs to me that I often suffer from the opposite problem. That is, I've got code in a legacy application designed only for Internet Explorer and I need to get it to work in Firefox. For example, I recently worked on an app that made heavy use of manually simulating click events, like this: select.options[0].click(); ...which completely broke the application in Firefox. But you wouldn't find that information in the answers to the other question, because that's not something you'd ever even attempt if your app first targeted Firefox. What other things should a developer updating a legacy IE-only application look for when migrating to modern browsers?

  • solutions for rapid front-end development?

    - by fayer
im using mvc framework and i have learned some techniques that help me with different parts of RAD. models: doctrine/visual paradigm controllers/libraries: various design patterns now i only need to know what technique/solution i should use for the views so that i can create views more rapidly. cause i don't think it's efficient to code css/html manually, even though i understand it. its the same principle when using visual paradigm to create both my mysql database tables and doctrine model classes. i believe in using right tools will boost up development speed. so what could i use for the views to save time and energy and don't reinvent the wheel all the time? dreamweaver? any css generation tools? 960/blueprint for layout? suggestions? thanks

  • How painful is a django project upload to a live (staging) site?

    - by Ignacio
Hi, I've getting quite fast with a small django project of mine, which I'm developing locally, of course. But, as I had never worked with django before, I'm not aware of what it implies to upload it and test it on a production server. And I'm quite curious, since I'm very eager to test an early release live. I know there is this document, which I think it'll be really helpful: http://djangobook.com/en/2.0/chapter12/ But, are there any details I should take into account before, during and after the deployment? Any advice or best practices? Thanks.

I'm looking for a comparison of the features of mobile browsers. Most interesting are the default preinstalled browsers. I would love a matrix that shows what device line can do what with their preinstalled browser. There is a list with rendering engines on wikipedia but there should be differences appart from the rendering right?

  • CodeIgniter Production and Developpement server on the same domain. (no subdomain)

    - by Onigoetz
Hi, I googled this many times but now I have to ask it here. I want to make a workflow for a website for Developpement/Production. My constraint is that I use Facebook Connect (Facebook Graph now) so I need to have the dev and prod on the same domain and server. (to be able to log in and test the features) I thought I will edit the CodeIgniter Index.php to redirect if I have a specific user agent (I can edit the one of my firefox) You think it's a good Idea or you have a better one ? And now comes the eternal question : how can I deploy this the easy way ? should I use Capistrano or Phing ? or simply a script with SVN ? Please help me, I'm totally new to this Deployment thing. I used to work directly in production for my little websites or on other domains. but now it's not possible anymore.

  • Are global comment systems a privacy concern?

    - by Stefano Borini
I more and more see these global login-once comment-everywhere systems on every page. I didn't do my homework of tinkering debugging and search before asking, so my question is as follows: You login on site A and leave a comment. Now you go on site B, which uses the same global comment system. At the bottom of the page a request form with your name and data appears for you to add a comment on B page. You don't leave any comment and browse away. Does the global-comment provider get information about the fact that you visited page B, even if you don't leave any comment ? I will dig into the code as soon as I have time, but in the meanwhile I would like to ask your insights on this regard.

  • Java Web Server with Jetty - TCP Connections Taking Long

    - by daysleeper
I have an application with fairly high traffic (20K req/min) running on the JVM with a Jetty servlet container on Ubuntu. Below is my Jetty configuration: 10 20 2000 2 When I analyze the network traffic, I realize that sometimes it is taking long to establish TCP connections on the port that Jetty is running. The long connections are varying between 3.0s and 9.0s. The port is configured to accept MAX number of TCP connections. Do you know what might be causing the delay in accepting connections? Thanks
