  • Are there reasons why the java/spring/hibernate stack aren't popular in the web 2.0 space?

    - by Blankman
I am really impressed with the java/spring/hibernate stack, and really want to dive in. Just curious, why are so many people using rails when java/spring/hibernate are tried and true? I guesss its because of the convention over configuration and time to launch? (spring has really gone the annotation route so less xml though). I realize this is subjective, but just looking for some thoughts on this.

  • Save simple data in Magento's DB w/o Model

    - by Joseph Mastey
I'm looking to save some data in the Magento database without hassling with creating a new EAV object (or even a DB table if I can avoid it). Is there any place that you all know about that Magento will let you store serialized data? If it matters, the data is a serialized set of SKUs that I need to retrieve. I know that I could create a new model, or possibly even create an attribute as a flag on each product, but those are both really overkill for my purposes. Thanks, Joe

  • Configuring Hibernate logging using Log4j XML config file?

    - by James McMahon
I haven't been able to find any documentation on how to configure Hibernate's logging using the XML style configuration file for Log4j. Is this even possible or do I have use a properties style configuration file to control Hibernate's logging? If anyone has any information or links to documentation it would appreciated. EDIT: Just to clarify, I am looking for example of the actual XML syntax to control Hibernate. EDIT2: Here is what I have in my XML config file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd"> <log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/"> <appender name="console" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <param name="Threshold" value="info"/> <param name="Target" value="System.out"/> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%d{ABSOLUTE} [%t] %-5p %c{1} - %m%n"/> </layout> </appender> <appender name="rolling-file" class="org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender"> <param name="file" value="Program-Name.log"/> <param name="MaxFileSize" value="1000KB"/> <!-- Keep one backup file --> <param name="MaxBackupIndex" value="4"/> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%d [%t] %-5p %l - %m%n"/> </layout> </appender> <root> <priority value ="debug" /> <appender-ref ref="console" /> <appender-ref ref="rolling-file" /> </root> </log4j:configuration> Logging works fine but I am looking for a way to step down and control the hibernate logging in way that separate from my application level logging, as it currently is flooding my logs. I have found examples of using the preference file to do this, I was just wondering how I can do this in a XML file.

  • Is there an Unobtrusive Captcha for web forms?

    - by KP
What is the best unobtrusive CAPTCHA for web forms? One that does not involve a UI, rather a non-UI Turing test. I have seen a simple example of a non UI CAPTCHA like the Nobot control from Microsoft. I am looking for a CAPTCHA that does not ask the user any question in any form. No riddles, no what's in this image.

  • Prompting user for multiple selections in an iphone app

    - by Matt Delves
I'm currently looking for a way to provide the user with being able to select multiple items from a collection of values. I know this is done in the mail app whereby you can go into the edit mode of a folder and select multiple items by clicking on the circle on the left hand side. What I'm unsure about is how this is achievable. Is anyone familiar with how to reproduce such functionality? Thanks, Matt Delves

  • Need a simple tool for analysing unicode characters

    - by Steve Bennett
I'm surprised I can't find a simple tool for this. Basically, sometimes as a result of text munging, or using some piece of software, I end up with some text that has some troublesome characters - such as looking a lot like other characters, but being distinct from them. I'd like a tool (preferably online, javascript based) where I can paste the text, and it will tell me all the characters involved, their names, unicode codes etc.

  • Classic assembly language texts not using x86?

    - by wrp
I'm looking for texts that give detailed treatment of assembly programming principles and don't use x86 as the target architecture. I haven't found any recent books like that, but I would expect that there were some good ones written in the 1970s and 1980s, when whole applications were still written in assembly. The architecture used should also be one of the cleaner designs, such as the 6502 or VAX.

  • .NET JSON parser comparison

    - by On Freund
I've been looking into several JSON parsers for .NET (LitJSON, JsonExSerializer and JSON.NET), and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them and can shed some light on the differences and the pros and cons for each of them.

  • What Java CMIS client library should I use?

    - by Nicolas Raoul
I am starting a new project and must decide which CMIS client library we will use. Our Java project just needs to connect an a CMIS server (actually Alfresco but it should not matter), in order to perform some read/write/search operations. I am looking for a client library that: is already usable is not going to be abandoned soon has an active community of users is open source Which one would you recommend and why? Here are a few possibilities: Apache Chemistry's OpenCMIS chemistry-atompub-client chemistry-abdera Abdera Parse the XML manually

I'm looking for a free online web page screenshot generator that will take photos of Mac browsers. I've looked at: BrowsrCamps BrowserShots LitmusApp All of which I'm sure are good but charge for a screenshot of your web app using a Mac browser. Does anyone know of a free alternative.

  • Debugging in Flash CS4

    - by danyal
Is a watch list hidden away somewhere in the AS3 debugger in Flash CS4? Sorry for asking a simple question like this here - I did spend a while looking around the net first. It's much easier to find the watch list in the AS2 debugger. Thanks, Dan

  • google app engine persistent globals

    - by Joey
Hi, I'm looking for a way to keep the equivalent of persistent global variables in app engine (python). What I'm doing is creating a global kind that I initialize once (i.e. when I reset all my database objects when I'm testing). I have things in there like global counters, or the next id to assign certain kinds I create. Is this a decent way to do this sort of thing or is there generally another approach that is used?

  • How can I setup a simple custom route using Zend Framework?

    - by Billy ONeal
I'm looking to setup a custom route which supplies implicit parameter names to a Zend_Application. Essentially, I have an incoming URL which looks like this: /StandardSystems/Dell/LatitudeE6500 I'd like that to be mapped to the StandardsystemsController, and I'd like that controller to be passed parameters "make" => "Dell" and "model" => "LatitudeE6500". How can I setup such a system using Zend_Application and Zend_Controller_Router?

  • jQuery Adding DOM Elements

    - by Aren B
    This may be a simple answer, but I'm trying to add a dom-created element (i.e. document.createElement(...)) to a jQuery Selector. jQuery has a great assortment of functions for adding html .html(htmlString) .append(htmlString) .prepend(htmlString) But what i want to do is add a dom OBJECT var myFancyDiv = document.createElement("div"); myFancyDiv.setAttribute("id", "FancyDiv"); // This is the theoretical function im looking for. $("#SomeOtherDiv").htmlDom(myFancyDiv);

  • Debugging site written mainly in JScript with AJAX code injection

    - by blumidoo
Hello, I have a legacy code to maintain and while trying to understand the logic behind the code, I have run into lots of annoying issues. The application is written mainly in Java Script, with extensive usage of jQuery + different plugins, especially Accordion. It creates a wizard-like flow, where client code for the next step is downloaded in the background by injecting a result of a remote AJAX request. It also uses callbacks a lot and pretty complicated "by convention" programming style (lots of events handlers are created on the fly based on certain object names - e.g. current page name, current step name). Adding to that, the code is very messy and there is no obvious inner structure - the functions are scattered in the code, file names do not reflect the business role of the code, lots of functions and code snippets are most likely not used at all etc. PROBLEM: How to approach this code base, so that the inner flow of the code can be sort-of "reverse engineered" using a suite of smart debugging tools. Ideally, I would like to be able to attach to the running application and step through the code, breaking on each new function call. Also, it would be nice to be able to create a "diagram of calls" in the application (i.e. in order to run a particular page logic, this particular flow of function calls was executed in a particular order). Not to mention to be able to run a coverage analysis, identifying potentially orphaned code fragments. I would like to stress out once more, that it is impossible to understand the inner logic of the application just by looking at the code itself, unless you have LOTS of spare time and beer crates, which I unfortunately do not have :/ (shame...) An IDE of some sort that would aid in extending that code would be also great, but I am currently looking into possibility to use Visual Studio 2010 to do the job, as the site itself is a mix of Classic ASP and ASP.NET (I'd say - 70% Java Script with jQuery, 30% ASP). I have obviously tried FireBug, but I was unable to find a way to define a breakpoint or step into the code, which is "injected" into the client JS using AJAX calls (i.e. the application retrieves the code by invoking an URL and injects it to the client local code). Venkman debugger had similar issues. Any hints would be welcome. Feel free to ask additional questions.

  • Creating java class with annotated fields in runtime

    - by Sarmun
The problem is that I need to create in runtime a class like this: public class Foo { @Bar int value0; @Bar int value1; @Bar int value2; .... } with number of fields being decided at runtime. I was looking at Javassist, and there you can create a new class, and add fields to it, but I haven't found a way to annotate those fields.

  • how/resources to compile a procedural language into [sql]

    - by Philip
I am looking into the possibility/feasibility/resources for building a cross compiler which takes a procedural or Object Oriented language like C, or Java and compiling it into SQL. I understand that the advantage of SQL code is performing set operations which is fundamentally different from procedural languages which generally process 1 at a time. If anyone has done this before, or if it is thought of as too complicated to do or any other ideas/concerns/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Philip

  • CSS placement of text

    - by Josh
Anyone know how I can get "Posted by AUTHOR on April 3rd, 2010 | 0 Comments" underneath the headline of the news links WITHOUT it being apart of the A CLASS? I want it to look, read, and function like: [IMAGE] HEADLINE Posted by AUTHOR on April 3rd, 2010 | 0 Comments All of that in the initial looking field, then the user can click and it expands further. I can obviously get it to work if I put it in the A CLASS tag, but that's the problem. I can't have it there.
