  • What is the minimum interface that has the Count property in .Net

    - by SoMoS
Hello, I need to change a method that has one parameter that takes a serie of objects. I need to find the lowest Interface (in inheritance tree) that has the Count property. Until now I was using the IEnumerable but as this has not Count I need to change it to the wider interface possible so the method can work with the biggest number of types of series (collections, lists, arrays, etc). Thanks in advance.

  • paging helper asp.net mvc

    - by csetzkorn
Hi, I have implemented a paging html helper (adapted from steven sanderson's book). This is the current code: public static string PageLinks(this HtmlHelper html, int currentPage, int totalPages, Func pageUrl) { StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 1; i <= totalPages; i++) { TagBuilder tag = new TagBuilder("a"); tag.MergeAttribute("href", pageUrl(i)); tag.InnerHtml = i.ToString(); if (i == currentPage) tag.AddCssClass("selectedPage"); result.AppendLine(tag.ToString()); } return result.ToString(); } This produces a bunch of links to each page of my items. If there are many pages this can be a bit overwhelming. I am looking for a similar implementation which produces something less overwhelming like this: where 6 is the current page. I am sure someone must have implemented something similar ... before I have to re-implement the wheel. Thanks. Christian

  • Asp.Net MVC options for business reporting

    - by MikeJ
I have a need to add business reporting for an application I am working on. I have found very little in the way of support for MVC natively. I would like to get a feedback on tools that people have used, how they used it (native or hybrid) and if possible links to examples demonstrating integration. I'd like to get feedback on use of Crystal Reports SSRS Telerik MVC Reporting Solutions SSRS - requires hybrid application with winforms page hosting the report Telerik - ??? Crystal Reports - requires hybrid application with winformats page hosting the report

  • C# ASP.NET Update database with datatable

    - by Sir Graystar
Scenario: I'm just trying to update my database with the changes made by the user to their information. Here is my code: SqlCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(da); dt.Rows[0][2] = txtname.Text; dt.Rows[0][3] = txtinterests.Text; dt.Rows[0][4] = txtlocation.Text; da.SelectCommand = new SqlCommand(sqlcommand, conn); da.Update(dt); I know its going to be something obvious, but what have I missed? There are no errors, everything compiles correctly, but nothing happens. The record remains unchanged.

  • ASP.NET MVC Cookie loses value when page is changed

    - by Jova
When a user logs in to my site, I create a cookie with some info in it. However, whenever they change page from logging in, the cookie loses it's value. Cookie is still there but it's empty. I've checked my code and the cookie doesn't get rewritten by anything I've done. Does anyone have any idea to why the cookie becomes empty when the page is changed?

  • Does ASP.net Report Viewer / Reports require Reporting Services on SQL server

    - by soldieraman
I have an application that makes use of Report Viewer and Report (.rdlc) files. Does this mean that I need to have "Reporting Services" installed on my SQL server?? Also would not having "SQL Server Analysis services" affect me any way I want to make sure I keep using - SQL Server Profiler - SQL Server Agent - create and run management tasks - Reporting services if the first question's answer is true.

  • Matching .NET References to Namespaces

    - by maxp
This seems confusing to me - im creating a class library, and adding all the necessary references for the source files contained in it. Now, off the bat, there were over 300 compiler errors complaining about missing namespaces. The library will now compile after i just added all of the System.* references, however this is obviously not the best way. I.e. if a classes needs using System.Web.Script;, there is no System.Web.Script reference, how would i find out which one of these references contained it? System.Web didnt.

  • How to bind grid in ASP.NET?

    - by Abid Ali
    I cant bind my Grid. I dont know what I am doing wrong, the grid appears empty when I run the program. here is my code :: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) this.BindGrid(this.GridView1); } private void BindGrid(GridView grid) { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("Select * from Person", cn); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); grid.DataSource = dt; grid.DataBind(); } <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div style="margin-left: 240px"> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CellPadding="4" ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="None" Width="856px" AutoGenerateColumns = "false" ShowFooter = "true" ShowHeader="true" BorderStyle="Groove" CaptionAlign="Top" HorizontalAlign="Center" onrowdatabound="GridView1_RowDataBound" > <RowStyle BackColor="#F7F6F3" ForeColor="#333333" /> <Columns> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="ID" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="First Name" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Last Name" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Home Phone #" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Cell #" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Email Address" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="NIC #" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Action"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" /> <asp:Button ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button" /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> <FooterStyle BackColor="#5D7B9D" Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="White" /> <PagerStyle BackColor="#284775" ForeColor="White" HorizontalAlign="Center" /> <SelectedRowStyle BackColor="#E2DED6" Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="#333333" /> <HeaderStyle BackColor="#5D7B9D" Font-Bold="True" ForeColor="White" /> <EditRowStyle BackColor="#999999" /> <AlternatingRowStyle BackColor="White" ForeColor="#284775" /> </asp:GridView> </div> </form> </body>

  • C# ASP.NET Binding Controls via Generic Method

    - by OverTech
I have a few web applications that I maintain and I find myself very often writing the same block of code over and over again to bind a GridView to a data source. I'm trying to create a Generic method to handle data binding but I'm having trouble getting it to work with Repeaters and DataLists. Here is the Generic method I have so far: public void BindControl<T>(T control, SqlCommand sql) where T : System.Web.UI.WebControls.BaseDataBoundControl { cmd = sql; cn.Open(); SqlDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); if (dr.HasRows) { control.DataSource = dr; control.DataBind(); } dr.Close(); cn.Close(); } That way I can just define my CommandText then make a call to "BindControls(myGridView, cmd)" instead of retyping this same basic block of code every time I need to bind a grid. The problem is, this doesn't work with Repeaters or DataLists. Each of these controls inherit their respective "DataSource" and "DataBind" methods from different classes. Someone on another forum suggested that I implement an interface, but I'm not sure how to make that work either. The GridView, Datalist and Repeater get their respective "DataBind" methods from BaseDataBoundControl, BaseDataList, and Repeater classes. How would I go about creating a single interface to tie them all together? Or am I better off just using 3 overloads for this method? Dave

  • .NET: How to know when serialization is completed?

    - by Ian Boyd
When I construct my control (which inherits DataGrid), I add specific rows and columns. This works great at design time. Unfortunately, at runtime I add my rows and columns in the same constructor, but then the DataGrid is serialized (after the constructor runs) adding more rows and columns. After serialization is complete, I need to clear everything and re-initialize the rows and columns. Is there a protected method that I can override to know when the control is done serializing? Of course, I'd prefer to not have to do the work in the constructor, throw it away, and do it again after (potential) serialization. Is there a preferred event that is the equivalent of "set yourself up now", so that it is called once whether I'm serialized or not? The serialization i speak of comes from the InitializeComponent() method in the form's code-behind file. #region Windows Form Designer generated code /// <summary> /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify /// the contents of this method with the code editor. /// </summary> private void InitializeComponent() { ... } It would have been perfect if InitializeComponent was a virtual method defined by Control, then i could just override it and then perform my processing after i call base: protected override void InitializeComponent() { base.InitializeComponent(); InitializeMe(); } But it's not an ancestor method, it's declared only in the code-behind file. i notice that InitializeComponent calls SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout on various Controls. i thought it could override ResumeLayout, and perform my initialization then: public override void ResumeLayout() { base.ResumeLayout(); InitializeMe(); } But ResumeLayout is not virtual, so that's out. Anymore ideas? i can't be the first person to create a custom control.

  • asp.net databinding string is passed to function but runtime occurs

    - by rod
Hi All, I'm using a code-behind function (called TestFx) in my binding expression. I'm passing a string and the function accepts a string but I still get a runtime error saying invalid args. But if I change the method to accept an object and inspect the value, "it's a string!" Can someone please explain? -rod ProductDescription: <asp:Label ID="ProductDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# TestFx(Eval("ProductDescription")) %>' /> <br />

  • COM port - how to identify a device (.net/c#)

    - by argh
Hi, I'm programming for Windows CE and I need to connect to a scanner. There is no problem - I know that it is on port COM0, but if I plug in another device earlier it gets another COM port... to get all com ports the easy way is: SerialPort.GetPortNames() But I don't know how to identify a device? Is there any standard way? I can't 'ping' it since there is one device that only sends data... it spams data all the time... and I don't know how to 'ping' a device...

  • Int128 in .Net?

    - by Adam Tegen
I need to do some large integer math. Are there any classes or structs out there that represent a 128-bit integer and implement all of the usual operators? BTW, I realize that decimal can be used to represent a 96-bit int.

  • Data Access Layer in an ASP.NET website

    - by user3519124
:) i have a DAL class file in my project, that my teacher sent me and explained to me but i did not really understand it. It has number of functions, and I understand only few of them, like with connecting to the database or creating a command object but there are 2 that I dont understand: public static DataTable GetTable(string str) { OleDbConnection con = DAL.GetConnection(); OleDbCommand cmd = DAL.GetCommand(con, str); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); OleDbDataAdapter adp = new OleDbDataAdapter(); adp.SelectCommand = cmd; adp.Fill(dt); return dt; } public static int ExecuteNonQuery(string str) { int num = -1; OleDbConnection con = DAL.GetConnection(); con.Open(); if (con.State == ConnectionState.Open) { OleDbCommand cmd = DAL.GetCommand(con, str); num = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); con.Close(); } return num; } thank you :)

  • Readonly SiteMapNodes in ASP.Net MVC?

    - by BenN
I'm using MVCSiteMap as a SiteMapProvider for my MVC site. I have a node set up like so.... <mvcSiteMapNode key="1" title="Product" controller="Product" action="Display" isDynamic="true" dynamicParameters="id"> <mvcSiteMapNode key="11" title="More Details" controller="Product" action="MoreDetails" isDynamic="true" dynamicParameters="id" /> </mvcSiteMapNode> ...Which means I can go to ~/Product/Display/12 and get a correct sitemap node for product id 12 (in this case just Product. And I can go to ~/Product/MoreDetails/12 and get the sitemap path for the MoreDetails (Product - More Details). The problem is that the link back to Product in this sitemap doesn't work - it skips the id off the end, instead linking to ~/Product/Display/. Which sucks. I've discovered I can edit the Title of a node using SiteMap.CurrentNode.Title = "My New Title"; But... SiteMap.CurrentNode.ParentNode.Url = "http://www.google.com"; Doesn't set the Url for the parent node; it gets the default link described before. Any ideas how I can set the URL of a SiteMapNode?

  • Thread vs ThreadPool - .Net 2.0

    - by NLV
Hello I'm not able to understand the difference between Thread vs ThreadPool. Consider i've to manipulate 50,000 records using threads. In case of threads i need to either predefine no of threads or no of records per threads. Either of them has to be constant. In case of threadpool we dont need to set any of them theoretically. But practically we need to assign the number of records per thread, because the no of threads may grow extremely large if the input no of records is huge. Any insights on this?

  • ASP.NET - fast Segmented downoad of file through webservice

    - by H4mm3rHead
Hi, Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice. Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?

  • Using Interfaces in an action signature of ASP.NET MVC controller

    - by Dmitry Borovsky
Hello, I want to use interface in Action signature. So I've tried make own ModelBinder by deriving DefaultModelBinder: public class InterfaceBinder<T> : DefaultModelBinder where T: new() { protected override object CreateModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext, Type modelType) { return base.CreateModel(controllerContext, bindingContext, typeof(T)); } } public interface IFoo { string Data { get; set; } } public class Foo: IFoo /*other interfaces*/ { /* a lot of other methods and properties*/ public Bar Data{get;set;} string IFoo.Data { get{return Data.ToString()}; set{Data = new Bar(value)}; } } public class MegaController: Controller { public ActionResult Process([ModelBinder(typeof(InterfaceBinder<Foo>))]IFoo foo){/*bla-bla-bla*/} } But it doesn't work. Does anybody have idea how release this behaviour? And yes, I know that I can make my own implementation of IModelBinder, but I'm looking for easier way.
