I once needed the lines of the stored procedures, to be able to trace whether i have a reference to some function, procedure or table, or sometimes to try to find something inside of the sp's code. Where does the sql server stores the procedures's code?
SQL Server 2008 is telling me to include the Primary Key in an index in the Included Column field. I thought the PK was automagically returned with all indexes?
So SQL Server 2008 in Hyper-V is a supported configuration, and should perform well as long as you use fixed or pass-through disks and increase your processor/memory settings appropriately. My question is can I use snapshots as a reliable backup mechanism, or should I use the tried and trusted maintenance plan to do my backups?
I have about 50 T-SQL files, some of them are 30MB but some of them are 700MB. I thought on executing them manually, but if the file is bigger than 10MB it throws an out of memory exception on the SQL Server Management Studio.
Any ideas?
I am working on a big application on SQL Server 2008 with 60 000 stored procedures and over 10 000 tables. Is there a tool through which I can do impact analysis to find out all SPs doing a DML on a table?
So all I want to stream images from my WebCam onto some local adress\port and be able to see them as MJPEG stream.
I want server (one that shares MJPEGS) and CLIENT (That sends MJPEGS) be in the same air app.
Can you give me

DETAILED STEP BY STEP instructions on what should I do\implement and where to find code examples
Hi, all.
People on StackOverflow are always ready to help someone solve their problem, and I think I owe many thanks to all of those nice people.
Sometimes I wonder what makes people wanna help, wanna share what they know to each other, and what makes them not.
What do you think makes a community different so that ready-to-help just becomes a second nature of its members?
Is there something we can learn from StackOverflow that can help us build an excellent team with ready-to-help members?
I have attempted bringing up a new farm and performing a stsadm backup/restore with no success. I have also tried doing a stsadm export/import with similar results.
I need to migrate/copy PWA to another server for testing purposes and I am at a standstill.
What is the best method to accomplish this?
I have ran into an issue with my SQL instance store attached to a WorkflowApplication that is running. When I exit my application I'm calling an Unload() on the WF app to persist it. I didn't think about it during design time, but it does makes sense, it's persisting an arg that was passed in to the WorkflowApplication constructor when instanced.
When the application runs, everything in the workflow works as expected. When I call Unload() I get an unhandled exception that states that the arg is not serializable and needs [DataContractAttribute].
What's passed into the workflow is my applications custom logger object that I wrote so that the WF can log to disk in a uniform way that I prefer. How do I prevent the workflow app from persisting this one argument and persist everything else?
I'm sure something can be done with extensions but I'm having a hard time finding info on them or finding persistence examples for my scenario.
Hi,
I have a project in C# with a Sql-server Database.
In that database I have a table named 'Process' and columns named 'process_name', 'Full_Name' and 'Version' (all of the type:nvarchar(50)).
I want to write a query wich will add the new process, only if it doesn't exist in the table yet.
How can I do that?
Many thanks,
Hi,
Is it possible to get the query result in .CSV file format from SQL SERVER 2000 and above versions?
If so can we use this feature from an asp.net application to get the result in CSV format?
If so how can we do this?
I have a stupid question. I have created a workflow Designer host where I publish my own activities. I also have a property grid which only displays the properties decorated with a special attribute. This designer is going to be used by none IT staff.
What I want is that on an activity the user can select a property value from a list. I know I just could create an Enum but I would like it to be dynamic. I.e. all events on a specific interface (extracted using reflection).
Is this at all possible or am I stuck with enums?
I have a fairly complicated mathematical function that I've been advised should be implemented as a User Defined Function in SQL Server so that it can be used efficiently from within a SQL query.
The problem is that it must be very efficient as it may be executed thousands of times per second, and I subsequently heard that UDFs are very inefficient.
Someone suggested that I could implement the function in C# instead, and that this would be much more efficient.
What should I do?
When I derive an activity from NativeActivity, I can access Workflow executionproperties using the NativeActivityContext like this:
context.Properties.Find("propertyname");
Some of my activities derive from Activity, because I they define a coded workflow using the Implementation property. An Activity has an ActivityContext, which does not provide access to the workflow execution properties, it does not have a Properties property.
Is there another way to get access to the workflow execution properties from within an Activity
I have a Workflow 4.0 app that generates emails. In a dialog for creating the email body the user needs to be able to input some string value representing an existing wf instance variable to be inserted as a string at runtime.
So they input something like: Email body text including <.
(say ExistingVariable is an int or something like that)
Any helpful hints for how to convert this text with a ToString() at runtime?
I need to design database for SQL Server, is there any MySQL workbench like software for that? I have access to MSDN, so it can also be commercial product that can be found form MSDN.
Say I have a LINESTRING defined as
LINESTRING(-122.360 47.656, -122.343 47.656, -122.310 47.690, -122.310 47.670, -122.300 47.630)
And I want to get a substring from
POINT(-122.360 47.656) to POINT(-122.310 47.690)
How can I return a substring of a LINESTRING in SQL Server 2008 Spatial?
When connecting to sql server, I have the hardcoded string "(local)". Is this a string I need to make available for localisation? ie, does (local) always work no matter the current language settings?
In older versions of Windows, it was just open the Control Panel, select the System applet, select the Advanced tab, and then hit the Environment variables button. As a normal user, you could edit the "User variables" but not the "System variables".
In Windows Server 2008 R2, if I try to hit the Advanced System settings option in the System applet, it prompts for the Administrator password.
Hi there,
Are there any build in UI capabilities when using Windows Workflow..
Lets say I have a workflow that takes an hour to run where different activities are happening all the time. While it's running I want to see what activity is currently active, what activities have already ran etc..
Do I have to code this UI myself or does WF have built in features that graphically show the status etc of the workflow?
Im writing up a business plan and im having some trouble with the finance part. I put an estimate on the cost of developers, web designers and everything but server costs. Im not a programmer so I dont know all the details. But how much would you think servers are going to cost for a complex app. I cant get into too many details but it keeps track of user preferences, stores data about the user and there is quite alot of back-end to it.
I have a defined number of servers that can locally process data in their own way. But after some time I want to synchronize some states that are common on each server. My idea was that establish a TCP connection from each server to the other servers like a mesh network.
My problem is that in what order do I make the connections since there is no "master" server here, so that each server is responsible for creating there own connections to each server.
My idea was that make each server connect and if the server that is getting connected already has a connection to the connecting server, then just drop the connection.
But how do I handle the fact that 2 servers is trying to connect at the same time? Because then I get 2 TCP connections instead of 1.
Any ideas?
Hi guys,
In SQL Server, how can I separate a large number of tsql statement into batches? Should I use the GO statement in stored procedures or functions? Should I use the GO statement in explicit transaction management situation(between BEGIN TRANSACTION and ROLLBACK TRANSACTION or COMMIT TRANSACTION)?
Are there some best practice about this topic?
Great thanks in advance.
