I have 3 machines. 2 Macs, 1 Dell.
1 of the Macs is running as a VNC server and the other Mac connects great with Chicken of the VNC.
Sadly, this app does not exist for Windows so I'm using RealVNC to view from Windows.
I connect the exact same way as with the Mac, but on Windows when it connects, I see a program pop up and then immediately close.
I have tried all options available on RealVNC and nothing changes things. Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?
It started after my 10.6.3 update.
I'm basically looking for a "Clear cache" button in Mail. It won't fetch new Gmail (big problem), and there are six copies of the same message in my Inbox that won't delete (spits out the following error).
I want to know if (a) anyone else has noticed this issue or (b) found a solution for a similar problem.
It's worth it to note that I was getting the dreaded Finder -10810 Won't Start error, along with the progressive lose of control. This prompted two (2) hard resets of the machine and then I immediately went and installed this update. Has not happened since the update but now it's the mail issue.

I created a launchd .plist file to in order to have a python script run every hour. I ended up editing and later deleting the .plist file ( in /Library/LaunchDaemons )... but somehow launchd is still trying to run the script.. The file that the original .plist was calling is also no longer present ( it was in /usr/bin ).. Now every 10 seconds launchd is still attempting to run the script, fails, and respawns...
I tried fixing this with Lingon.... to no avail.. Is there a way to kill this process for good? I tried logging out and restarting as well...

I am currently stuck with a installation error and I was hoping that you guys would have some insight. The error is intermittent and seems to occur only in 10.7.
This is the error shown in the log:

Mountain Lion Server has been one of the most infuriating things ever recently. Above and beyond tons of crashing I've been completely unable to do the following in a way that makes sense to both me and Apple.
Name your server srv01.myoffice.domain.com
Create an OpenDirectory database as a Master from scratch as dc=domain,dc=com
I can rename my server temporarily (taking down vital services in the process due to the automagicliciousness) and create a new profile, however when I switch back to the original domain name the default search base for server related authentication magic is now dc=srv01,dc=myoffice,dc=domain,dc=com.
I've tried everything I can think of including using slapconfig backupdb/restoredb and slaving the server off of another then promoting it. This seems rather silly and Apple shows no response to many requests to resolve this.
Does anybody out there have the magic to have OpenDirectory work as it should.. being able to give it any domain you want and then having all vital services operate correctly.
I want to know what files a specific application is trying to access on my disc. I know that you can use fs_usage, but this outputs events from all applications. I know that you can target a single application, but only one that is already running. I want to detect all readfile-events an application is trying to do, ever since it is started. I don't want to miss out on any event.
How do you achieve this?
I just updated to Mac App Store 1.0.2 with the update to 10.6.8.
The Mac App Store said I have one update available, for Angry Birds....
I do not have Angry Birds on my system, but when I clicked the update button I got the following message.
"You have updates available for other
accounts. Sign in to
[email protected] to update
applications for that account."
Needless to say this account does not exist. Any ideas what this is all about?
We've got two Macs that are both running 10.6.6. On my MBP, Adobe (Acrobat) Reader started behaving weird a few weeks ago. It became very sluggish, started missing mouse clicks or mouse button releases, scrolling was next to impossible. Most of the time it does not handle Page Up / Page Down events at all. Zooming works erratically if at all. It's basically unusable. On the other Mac (an iMac), there are no such problems. I've tried to remove and reinstall Adobe Reader as well as upgrading to the latest version, but unfortunately without success. This is the only software that is behaving strangely on this Mac, everything else is working fine. What else could I try?
I've got a Debian installation in an installation of ESXi that won't boot due to the deletion of a few system files that need to be restored. It would be preferable to at least access the files on the instance, if a repair is impossible.
To complicate matters, there isn't enough room on the drive to upload a full distribution to boot from with VMWare disk utility.
Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
I'm working on installing django and running it on my system.
I have a problem though, in this tutorial creating a project is explained by running the command
django-admin.py startproject mysite
My issue is that this doesn't work. I changed to the directory where django-admin.py is located and ran the command
chmod +x django-admin.py
with no results. I tried adding the directory with the file to my path without results. I ended up fixing my problem with this command
python /location/of/django-admin.py startproject mysite
which yielded the outcome I expected. My problem is: What do I need to change/configure such that command
django-admin.py startproject mysite
would be sufficient?
Here are some experiments:
21:09~/Desktop/HI/NSN/Polls > django-admin.py startproject mysite
-bash: django-admin.py: command not found
21:09~/Desktop/HI/NSN/Polls > ./django-admin.py startproject mysite

Final edit: The problem is solved, see Ian C's answer for the right solution. Thank you everyone for helping my out, this was very fast!
I'd like to permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open, in the same way that the taskbar allows in Windows. Can I do this on Mac?
Some details:
i have many virtual desktops (spaces), so often a single application has windows on many of them.
I often have multiple windows of each application, such as the terminal or browser, on the same virtual desktop
I have multiple monitors, if it matters.
Edit: When I say 'permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open' I mean that I want to see every window I have open, and I'd like to be able to click on each one to open that window. I'm not looking for the newer behaviour where tasks are clustered by application.
Thnaks for reading. I setup a VPN server on my Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N router at Macau, and use it for access website over China Firewall when i travel in China. On Android and Windows, everything work fine, however on my Macbook Air and iPad, it is not working. I can access blocked site like badoo.com but not facebook and youtube. If i ping it at terminal, it said "ping: cannot resolve facebook.com: Unknown host".
After i read this http://cp.hidemynet.com/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=26, i find i can restart my router and reboot my Macbook, and connect to VPN before any request to any blocked site so that i can successfully connect to facebook and youtube. However it works sometime but not always.
It is really annoying because i need to work on VPN and my Mac, would anyone can help me to solve it? Rather than restarting my router and my Mac every time. Please HELP!!!
regards
There is a question I see popping on and on at forums but with no "good" answer.
I've copied a DVD to my hard drive and it is about 6.6 GB.
Is there any software that will help me to burn it into a 4.3 GB disk?
Strange thing happened. I want so sell my old Macbook and therefore used a disk image of the Snow Leopard DVD that I restored onto an external drive. I booted off the drive and went through the installation steps.
Now I really would like to perform "archive and install", as there might be some files that I need later, but I didn't see the option. The only options for installation I had, were, including others, optional printer drivers and Rosetta. So I just clicked through and I wasn't given any other option.
After about 45 minutes, my system booted again, and voila, there was my old system. Nothing changed.
How should I proceed to actually reset the system? All I have is that Snow Leopard DVD image.

I've done the launchctl load command, the symlinks point to my /opt/local/etc/LaunchDaemeons/org.macports.apache2/org.macports.apache2.plist, but it never starts. I can start it manually, works fine after that. Just won't load on startup.
My server is named in my /opt/local/apache2/conf/httd.conf, I had read that sometimes makes a difference.
I've done the launchctl unload and load trick, all with no results.
I'm out of ideas.
Setup:
I use iTerm2 on MacOS to connect to a remote server.
The remote server runs tmux, in which I open files and edit in vim sessions.
Problem:
I can't copy/paste between the remote tmux session and the local iTerm client. I can use iTerm 2's alt/option + mouse selection to select text, but this copies over multiple vim panes/tmux panes - bad.
Is there any elegant solution to make selections in tmux panes synchronize between the remote pasteboard and the local (MacOS pasteboard)? I've seen reattach-to-user-namespace, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't do what I want.
Hi all,
Sometimes, and it seems to be very random, the trackpad on my mac book pro (snow leopard) doesnt single click, it does double, triple and 4 fingers swipe ok, but not single click!
A restart fixes it, but its very frustrating, has anyone else ever seen this?
I need to unarchive a file to the /Developer folder.
My file is in /Users/User/Desktop/VMware/Downloads
And I am trying
tar -xf qt-everywhere-ios-4.8.0-arm7-nossl.tar.gz -C /Developer
and keep getting:
Lions-Mac:Downloads User$ tar -xf qt-everywhere-ios-4.8.0-arm7-nossl.tar -C /Developer
tar: Error opening archive: Failed to open 'qt-everywhere-ios-4.8.0-arm7-nossl.tar'
How can I achieve this?
Install Qt for iOS SDK
The Qt for iOS SDK has been configured to be
installed in the default Xcode installation location /Developer. It is
not possible to install the SDK into another location without first
rebuilding it, as the install location is contained within the qmake
executable, and that is built as part of Qt.
To install the Qt for iOS
SDK, open ‘Terminal’ and type the following from the command-line:
tar –xf qt-everywhere-ios-4.8.0-xxx.tar.gz –C /Developer
(where xxx is an identifier which can be used to determine the build
of the iOS SDK eg. arm7--nossl) This will install the Qt for iOS SDK
into the following path:
/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/share/qt-everywhere-ios-4.8.0
