Software giant rushes out Security Advisory to warn customers about code for a zero-day vulnerability in SharePoint collaboration server that's making the rounds on the Web.
<b>Database Journal:</b> "One of the key elements that helps to enable open source software applications to gain broader enterprise usage is the availability of commercial support options. In the case of the open source MongoDB NoSQL database, that commercial support is now coming from project backer 10gen."
We had a failure in our software today and after investigating discovered that the failure should have been occurring for weeks, but it waited until this morning to rear its ugly head. Is there an accepted name for such a bug that I can use when referring to it with other programmers?
The closest I could find was a Schrödinbug, but I'm don't think it applies, since nobody was inspecting any code. The bug was just lying in wait.
<b>Sure, It's Secure:</b> "I'm no friend to Windows. I know the operating system too well to trust it. But, I did think that even though Windows is defective by design, you could keep it relatively safe by installing patches quickly and using anti-virus software religiously. I was wrong."
I passed first two technical interviews at a global e-commerce company for the position of senior software engineer.
I was told that there are two more interviews, one with a senior development executive and another with a person from human resources (HR).
What kind of questions I should expect during the interview with the senior development executive? Is is technical, high level architecture related, etc.?
During HR interviews, is it ok to ask about the work-life balance and actual working hours?

The JavaBeans Specification describes a JavaBean as
A Java Bean is a reusable software component that can be manipulated visually
in a builder tool
Since the majority of the lines of code that are written seem to have nothing to do with being manipulated visually in a builder tool, why has the JavaBean specification been the "way" to write object oriented code?
I would like to forgo the traditional getter/setter in favor of Fluent Interfaces all throughout the code, not just in builders but fear doing so since this is traditionally not the way way object oriented code is written in Java.
In my intro to software development class I'm using a program called raptor which really helps me when I'm mapping out semi-complex algorithms and programs. The thing that I like about raptor is that when I'm flowcharting an algorithm, I can run it like an actual program and raptor steps through the code block by block. Unfortunately, raptor is only available on windows and when I'm at home I spend most of my time on Mac OS X. Is there any programs available for mac that help flowchart and step through algoritms?

I'm looking to add circle-polygon collisions to my Separating Axis Theorem collision detection.
The metanet software tutorial (http://www.metanetsoftware.com/technique/tutorialA.html#section3) on SAT, which I discovered in the answer to a question I found when searching, talks about voronoi regions.
I'm having trouble finding material on how I would calculate these regions for an arbitrary convex polygon and aleo how I would determine if a point is in one + which.
The tutorial does contain source code but it's a .fla and I don't have Flash unfortunately.
I was just wondering if there are there developers making java software for desktops. Is it even worth it, do any developers do that for living.
I am making a chat application using sockets and and java GUI, just for fun, but then I wanted to see some examples of desktop apps, but did not find many.
I have heard that Netbeans, is made using java, but the Netbeans in my Windows to me it seems like any other native Windows application
Distro-hopping is easy and fun. Linux users distro-hop to solve problems and to try new software. But is it necessary? Haven't most Linux distributions reached a state of polish that makes distro-hopping unnecessary? Brian Proffitt wonders if distro-hopping shouldn't be discouraged.
<b>Network World: </b>"The zero-day vulnerability is reminiscent of one Adobe disclosed and patched in July 2009, and comes just days after the company's head of security admitted hackers have its software in their crosshairs."
I'm doing a fresh install of 12.10 and am trying to install Google Chrome. I've downloaded the deb from http://chrome.google.com and am installing it through the Ubuntu Software Centre.
I'm getting a message:
The package is of bad quality
(same as What is a "bad quality" package?)
In the expanded section, the "error" states:
E: google-chrome-stable: file-in-etc-not-marked-as-conffile etc/cron.daily/google-chrome
Is it safe to click on the "Ignore and Install" button?

Recently I uninstalled some software using sudo apt-get --purge autoremove, thinking that this would remove all traces of it including unused dependencies and configuration files. However I discovered that a configuration file was left behind in my home folder. Is there a more powerful command which would remove even that? As a related question about keeping things clean , is is safe to delete the hidden files and folders under home, if they are merely configuration files, or are there other kinds of files?

When you design a hover ad, there are a number of factors you will want to consider. First, the hover ad should not be obtrusive to the people who visit your website. It should be pleasant, easy to read, and it should capture the attention of those who see it. Therefore, when you're looking for a good hover ad creator software program, you will want to find a program that is flexible.
