• Java static method parameters

- by Blitzkr1eg
Why does the following code return 100 100 1 1 1 and not 100 1 1 1 1 ? public class Hotel { private int roomNr; public Hotel(int roomNr) { this.roomNr = roomNr; } public int getRoomNr() { return this.roomNr; } static Hotel doStuff(Hotel hotel) { hotel = new Hotel(1); return hotel; } public static void main(String args[]) { Hotel h1 = new Hotel(100); System.out.print(h1.getRoomNr() + " "); Hotel h2 = doStuff(h1); System.out.print(h1.getRoomNr() + " "); System.out.print(h2.getRoomNr() + " "); h1 = doStuff(h2); System.out.print(h1.getRoomNr() + " "); System.out.print(h2.getRoomNr() + " "); } } Why does it appear to pass Hotel by-value to doStuff() ?

• How can I selectively override a django .count() method

- by Tom Viner
I'm using postGresSQL and my main table has about 20,000 rows. Sometimes count() methods can take ages or even timeout. Mod.manager.filter(...).count() I need to selectively override the count() method depending on what filter has been applied. Just having a cache of results would be a great gain but I'd like to be able to say: if filter query is just {'enabled'=True} then return 20,000 without touching the db. Note: I can't prevent the call to .count() as it's inside django's pagination, which always does a count.

• Error HRESULT E_FAIL when creating Exchange mailbox (CDOEXM.IMailboxStore.CreateMailbox)

- by Matt
I am trying to automate the process of creating an Exchange Mailbox for AD users and am running into an issue. When calling the CreateMailbox method I am receiving the error "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component". I have installed and referenced the Exchange Management Tools and am using impersonation for permissions. Here is the code: ActiveDs.IADsUser adUser = (ActiveDs.IADsUser)user.NativeObject; adUser.AccountDisabled = !Active; user.CommitChanges(); //Set Password user.Invoke("SetPassword", Password); user.CommitChanges(); //Create Mailbox IMailboxStore mailbox; mailbox = (IMailboxStore)adUser; mailbox.CreateMailbox("LDAP://CN=StandardUsers,CN=StandardUsers,CN=InformationStore,CN=xxxxx," + "CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative Groups," + "CN=xxxxx Main,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=xxxxx,DC=com"); user.CommitChanges();

• How to subscribe to EventHandler of a private control outside of Form

- by randooom
Hi all, maybe my design is not good, or I don't see the obvious solution, but I want to subscribe to a buttonClick EventHandler of Form1 from outside form1. For example I have a Controller and Form1 who are both instanced in the main function. Now I want to subscribe a function from Controller to the buttonClick event from Button1_Click in Form1. But the button1 is declarded private, so i can't do form1->Button1->Click += gcnew EventHandler(controller->function) Is there any way to get around this? Ok I could write a setter or something in Form1, but is there any other solution? I read some examples, but they are all calling events from within the same class so they don't address my specific problem.

• Trouble with arraylist and stack

- by helloman
I am having trouble starting out this program, I am suppose to write a program that will create an ArrayList, asking the user for 10 numbers. Then this will be put into the Array. Then after the list is made navigate it and if a number is even remove it from the ArrayList and copy it to a stack of integers. import java.io.* ; import java.util.*; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args){ Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in); ArrayList<Integer> integers = new ArrayList<Integer>(); System.out.print ("Enter Number: \n"); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++){ integers.add(input.nextInt()); } for (int i = 0; i < 10 ; i++){ if (i %2==0) } } }

• How does compiler use lib file ?

- by Xinus
I am curious about how c/c++ compiler analyse lib files ? I mean say I create a library containing some classes, I am using that library in my main program. How does compiler know what class names are there in that library. Of course that information is present in binary format, I want to use that functionality in my program, to be specific I have a binary lib file and I want to know all classes and properties/functions present in that lib file. Is it possible ? If compiler can do that why can't some library ? thanks for any clue

• Why do i get segfault at the end of the application after everything's been done properly ?

- by VaioIsBorn
#include <string.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { unsigned char *stole; unsigned char pass[] = "m4ak47"; printf("Vnesi password: \t"); scanf("%s", stole); if(strncmp(stole, pass, sizeof(pass)) != 0) { printf("wrong password!\n"); exit(0); } else printf("Password correct\n"); printf("some stuf here...\n\n"); return 0; } This program is working nice, but with one problem - if the password is correct then it DOES do the printing of 'some stuf here...' but it also shows me segmentation fault error at the end. Why ?

• C++ Singleton design pattern.

- by Artem Barger
Recently I've bumped into realization/implementation of Singleton design pattern for C++. It has looked in the following way (I have adopted it from real life example): // a lot of methods is omitted here class Singleton { public: static Singleton* getInstance( ); ~Singleton( ); private: Singleton( ); static Singleton* instance; }; From this declaration I can deduce that instance field is initiated on the heap, that means there is a memory allocation. That is completely unclear for me is when does exactly memory is going to be deallocated? Or there is a bug and memory leak? It seems like there is a problem in implementation. PS. And main question how to implement it in the right way?

• some verd problems in qt

- by prabhakaran
I am very new to qt, So whatever I facing is either errors or problems. Here goes some of them, 1)Just try to install it in VisualStudio, you will got enough for the day. 2)After you installed it as a separate qt(without embedding it inside visual studio).Open a c++ file in qt, = then you won't get any option to compile it. 3)Create a empty qt4 project like below #include<iostream> using namespace std; int main(int a,char * argv[]) { } Then build it, you will get a error like this C:\qt-greenhouse\Trolltech\Code_less_create_more\Trolltech\Code_less_create_more\Troll\4.6\qt\src\winmain/qtmain_win.cpp:131: undefined reference to `qMain(int, char**)' Can anybody clear any of these problems to me.

• Why isn't the @Deprecated annotation triggering a compiler warning about a method?

- by Scooter
I am trying to use the @Deprecated annotation. The @Deprecated documentation says that: "Compilers warn when a deprecated program element is used or overridden in non-deprecated code". I would think this should trigger it, but it did not. javac version 1.7.0_09 and compiled using and not using -Xlint and -deprecation. public class test_annotations { public static void main(String[] args) { test_annotations theApp = new test_annotations(); theApp.this_is_deprecated(); } @Deprecated public void this_is_deprecated() { System.out.println("doing it the old way"); } }

• x86 assembly question

- by kevin
This is my assembly program which is just a function to swap *x *y. So first argument from main is address of x which is in 8(%ebp) and second one is address of y is in 12(%ebp). The program does swap x and y. I need 7 lines for doing this. can you make it 6 lines and there is a condition you can use only %eax, %ecx, and %edx 3 registers. I think about it so much, but I can't make it 6 lines. There must be a way, isn't it? This might be not a big deal, but if there is a way to get it in 6lines I want to know. movl 8(%ebp), %eax movl (%eax), %ecx movl 12(%ebp), %edx movl (%edx), %eax movl %ecx, (%edx) movl 8(%ebp), %ecx movl %eax, (%ecx)

• XML and .NET: How to replace specific node with many other ones loaded from raw xml data

- by Entrase
Let's suppose we have an element like this one in the main xml file: <group name="gr1" filename="groups/gr1.xml"/>. The second file gr1.xml contains something like this:
Item one

Item two

Item three
Note that there is no XML declaration in gr1.xml, just plain items without single parent node. So… Which is the best way to replace <group/> with its
s? I have already tried some things like manual enclosing of gr1.xml content into a single node with XML declaration and loading it into XmlDocument, but it doesn't look like a good solution.

• Avoid incompatible pointer warning when dealing with double-indirection

- by fnawothnig
Assuming this program: #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> static void ring_pool_alloc(void **p, size_t n) { static unsigned char pool[256], i = 0; *p = &pool[i]; i += n; } int main(void) { char *str; ring_pool_alloc(&str, 7); strcpy(str, "foobar"); printf("%s\n", str); return 0; } ... is it possible to somehow avoid the GCC warning test.c:12: warning: passing argument 1 of ‘ring_pool_alloc’ from incompatible pointer type test.c:4: note: expected ‘void **’ but argument is of type ‘char **’ ... without casting to (void**) (or simply disabling the compatibility checks)? Because I would very much like to keep compatibility warnings regarding indirection-level...

• Why does C++ linking use virtually no CPU?

- by John
On a native C++ project, linking right now can take a minute or two, yet during this time CPU drops from 100% during compilation to virtually zero. Does this mean linking is primarily a disk activity? If so, is this the main area an SSD would make big changes? But, why aren't all my OBJ files (or as many as possible) kept in RAM after compilation to avoid this? With 4Gb of RAM I should be able to save a lot of disk access and make it CPU-bound again, no?

• What is the best practice in C# to propagate an exception thrown in a finally block without loosing an exception from a catch block?

- by Sergey Smolnikov
When an exception is possible to be thrown in a finally block how to propagate both exceptions - from catch and from finally? As a possible solution - using an AggregateException: internal class MyClass { public void Do() { Exception exception = null; try { //example of an error occured in main logic throw new InvalidOperationException(); } catch (Exception e) { exception = e; throw; } finally { try { //example of an error occured in finally throw new AccessViolationException(); } catch (Exception e) { if (exception != null) throw new AggregateException(exception, e); throw; } } } }

• Mod_Rewrite: Insert "/" between variables and values in URL

- by Abs
Hello all, I am attempting clean useful URLs using mod_rewrite. I am sure this is a common question but I am not so hot with mod_rewrite: I have this URL: http://mysite.com/user.php?user=fatcatmat&sort=popularv I want to be able to rewrite it like this: http://mysite.com/user/user/fatcatmat/sort/popularv (Is there a way to remove duplicates in a URL?) I think I have managed to do the removal of the PHP extension. RewriteRule ^(.*)\$ $1.php [nc] Is the above correct? For the separate pages, I would have something like this. RewriteRule ^/?user(/)?$ user.php Main Question: Its a bit tedious to do all the above but is there a MEGA rewrite rule that will just place "/" in between variables and their values and remove the .php extension from all pages? Thank you for any help.

• storing an integer constant other than zero in a pointer variable

- by benjamin button
int main() { int *d=0; printf("%d\n",*d); return 0; } this works fine. >cc legal.c > ./a.out 0 if i change the statement int *d=0; to int *d=1; i see the error. cc: "legal.c", line 6: error 1522: Cannot initialize a pointer with an integer constant other than zero. so its obvious that it will allow only zero.i want to know what happens inside the memory when we do this int *d=0 which is making it valid syntax. I am just asking this out of curiosity!

• basic json > struct question

- by danwoods
I'm working with twitter's api, trying to get the json data from http://search.twitter.com/trends/current.json which looks like: {"as_of":1268069036,"trends":{"2010-03-08 17:23:56":[{"name":"Happy Women's Day","query":"\"Happy Women's Day\" OR \"Women's Day\""},{"name":"#MusicMonday","query":"#MusicMonday"},{"name":"#MM","query":"#MM"},{"name":"Oscars","query":"Oscars OR #oscars"},{"name":"#nooffense","query":"#nooffense"},{"name":"Hurt Locker","query":"\"Hurt Locker\""},{"name":"Justin Bieber","query":"\"Justin Bieber\""},{"name":"Cmon","query":"Cmon"},{"name":"My World 2","query":"\"My World 2\""},{"name":"Sandra Bullock","query":"\"Sandra Bullock\""}]}} My structs look like: type trend struct { name string query string } type trends struct { id string arr_of_trends []trend } type Trending struct { as_of string trends_obj trends } and then I parse the JSON into a variable of type Trending. I'm very new to JSON so my main concern is making sure I've have the data structure correctly setup to hold the returned json data. I'm writing this in 'Go' for a project for school. (This is not part of a particular assignment, just something I'm demo-ing for a presentation on the language)

• MPFR Rounding 0.9999 to 1?

- by Silmaersti
I'm attempting to store the value 0.9999 into an mpfr_t variable But 0.9999 is rounded to 1 (or some other value != 0.9999) during storage, no matter the round value (GMP_RNDD, GMP_RNDU, GMP_RNDN, GMP_RNDZ) So what's the best method to store 0.9999 in an mpfr_t variable? Is it possible? Here is my test program, it prints "buffer is: 1", instead of the wanted "buffer is: 0.9999": int main() { size_t precision = 4; mpfr_t mpfrValue; mpfr_init2(mpfrValue, precision); mpfr_set_str(mpfrValue, "0.9999", 10, GMP_RNDN); char *buffer = (char*)malloc((sizeof(char) * precision) + 3); mp_exp_t exponent; mpfr_get_str(buffer, &exponent, 10, precision, mpfrValue, GMP_RNDN); printf("buffer is: %s\n", buffer); free(buffer); mpfr_clear(mpfrValue); return 0; } Thanks for any help !
