  • Compare DateTime ticks on two machines

    - by vani
Is it a viable option to compare two FileInfo.CreationTimeUtc.Ticks of two files on two different computers to see which version is newer - or is there a better way? Do Ticks depend on OS time or are they really physical ticks from some fixed date in the past?

  • Linux directories

    - by Alex Farber
I am writing installation script for my program, which is supposed to run on Linux/Unix OS. What is the default directory for the following files: Executable files (programs). Program should be executed by typing its name from the command line. Shared libraries. Third-party shared libraries (the program is not open source, so I need to redistribute third-party libraries). Read-only program configuration files for all users. Configuration data available for read/write access for all users.

  • iPhone keeps going into dim/sleep mode even with the proper API calls.

    - by Kyle
I call: [[ UIApplication sharedApplication ] setIdleTimerDisabled: YES ] on the applicationDidFinishLaunching event.. I set a breakpoint on it, which fires so I know it's getting called.. I've also called this function in other places as well.. Basically, a 3G iPhone will still go into sleep mode, but my 3GS won't. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Both are running the latest OS versions. Thanks for reading!

  • Can I embed a .png image into an html page?

    - by Ole Jak
So I have a .png file. I am using windows OS. How can I embed my png file/image into (blank by default) file.html so that when you open that file in any browser you see that image, but the file is not anyhow linked to it - it is ebbeded into it? Step by step instructions would be nice.

  • How can I setup a flexible local web development environment I can easily sync with a production, Amazon AWS based environment?

    - by user607057
I'm running on an OS X environment and would like to create a flexible web development environment locally... including the option to run on an Nginx server for my PHP-based application. At the end of the day (or, development cycle), I'd like to be able to hit a switch and have it all sync over to Amazon AWS hosting (EC2, S3) - instances, databases, files, configurations, and all. Are there any simple ways to do this?

  • How do I upload a file when I know the client's filepath?

    - by GJTorikian
I'm interested in the way Sonic Living detects your iTunes library XML file. It prompts the user to approve its actions, then automatically uploads the XML file based on the client OS (and assuming the default installation path of iTunes). How the heck does it do that? None of the upload libraries I've looked at have this feature. They all assume that a user will click "Select file..." then browse around for the right thing to upload.

  • how to store data crawled from website

    - by Richard
I want to crawl a website and store the content on my computer for later analysis. However my OS file system has a limit on the number of sub directories, meaning storing the original folder structure is not going to work. Suggestions? Map the URL to some filename so can store flatly? Or just shove it in a database like sqlite to avoid file system limitations?

  • PPC breakpoints

    - by xtophyr
How is a breakpoint implemented on PPC (On OS X, to be specific)? For example, on x86 it's typically done with the INT 3 instruction (0xCC) -- is there an instruction comparable to this for ppc? Or is there some other way they're set/implemented?

  • Counting context switches per thread

    - by Sarmun
Is there a way to see how many context switches each thread generates? (both in and out if possible) Either in X/s, or to let it run and give aggregated data after some time. (either on linux or on windows) I have found only tools that give aggregated context-switching number for whole os or per process. My program makes many context switches (50k/s), probably a lot not necessary, but I am not sure where to start optimizing, where do most of those happen.

  • Limitations in running Ruby on windows7

    - by orkutscraps
n the installation documentation to RoR it mentions that there are many limitations to running Ruby on Rails on Windows7, and in some cases, whole libraries do not work. How bad are these limitations, should I always default to Linux to code / run RoR, and is Iron Ruby expected to fix these limitations or are they core to the OS itself?

  • Unicode Kangxi radicals range 2F00–2FDF not displayed on iphone device, but in simulator

    - by sadfadfasd
Hi, Kangxi radicals in the range 2F00-2FDF (see link text) are not displayed correctly on the iPhone device. They appear as a crossed-out box. In the simulator they display correctly. I tried the system font and also the [UIFont fontWithName:@"STHeitiTC-Medium" size:24]; ... Is the unicode codepoint coverage limited on the iphone (in my case OS 3.1.3)? How to make those radicals appear??? Thx

  • Are there any free tools for building AIR applications?

    - by rspeed
There is an ongoing argument on the web right now about the "openness" of the iPhone OS and Adobe Flash platforms. Adobe's argument is that anyone can build a Flash application without having to worry about being allowed to distribute it. This made me wonder… is it possible to build and distribute an AIR application without giving any money to Adobe (without violating any licenses, of course)? Are any of these tools free? Are any open-source?
