I'm looking for a nice tutorial or framework for developing Python written web applications.
I've done lots in PHP, but very little in Python or Ruby and figured I'd start with the first one alphabetically.
I am somewhat new to PHP and I am wondering: How important is it to unset variables in PHP? I know in languages like C we free the allocated memory to prevent leaks, etc. By using unset on variables when I am done with them, will this significantly increase performance of my applications?
Also is there a benchmark anywhere that compares difference between using unset and not using unset?
I guess my mind is so engaged in IIS and web applications that I can't think of a reason to go through the trouble of using a self-hosted WCF service. I have always had the availability of IIS so creating a self-hosted WCF service seems like more work than I would want to do. Why would I want to do this?
Hi all. This is the weirdest thing:
For some reason, when I'm running VS 2008 in XP, and I use the 'Advanced Appearance settings' control panel to change the Size of menu items in all applications, Visual Studio 2008 is unaffected by the change. (That's Control Panel - Display - Appearance tab - Advanced - select 'Menu' from the item drop-down, and change the Font size)
Anyone else noticed this? Is anyone aware of a fix?
Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone,
I am using MacBook Pro Mac OS 10.5 with related version of XCode. I am new to this development environment. I am developing C++ console/terminal applications (File-New project, then from the list on the left "Command line utility", and on the right "C++ tool".).
For C++ source code file, I want to print source file content with line number. Any ideas how to do this?
thanks in advance,
George
Hello
It's a software-related question but not development-related :-/
A friend of mine is looking for an equivalent on Macintosh to Visio or SmarDraw to draw plans for home improvements. I don't know anything about Macintosh, so would appreciate any feedback on good softwares for this type of applications.
Thank you.
For winforms applications I'm wondering what setup code should go in:
MainForm()
as opposed to
MainForm_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
Are there any best practice guidelines here?
I once heard of a guy managed to install original Microsoft .Net Framework on Linux and successfully run Mono-incompatible .Net applications using bleeding-edge MS C# features. Any idea how could he do it?
I'm looking for a complete list of security guidelines for programming and deploying PHP web sites and applications on an Apache (Linux) server. Basically, a "security check list" to run through before finishing a project. I.e.,
Cross Site Scripting
Cross Site Request Forgery
Sanitize form data that goes into database
Disable register globals and error reporting in custom php.ini
Upload files below web root
...(the list goes on)
I did some searching on the internet and in this forum, but couldn't find a comprehensive, succinct, and complete list of guidelines.
Thanks in advance.
Say I have a TODO list iphone app, that can be edited/viewed from both a web application and the iphone application.
When on the iphone, when a user views all his todo lists, or sub-items, I would think that each time the user views a particular list it shouldn't be hitting the web applications API every-time, but rather cache locally the values and only hit the web when things change.
What strategies are there for this type of scenerio?
Hello, I have recently started to develop applications for iPhone with MonoTouch and have to store user names and passwords on the phone. I want to use the keychain for this but can't find anything in the MonoTouch documentation about it. Is it possible to use it directly with MonoTouch or will I have to write some C++/C/Objective-C code that uses the keychain and export it to MonoTouch?
I have a Windows 2008 R2 VPS with 1 GB of RAM. I'm using the VPS to run SQL Server 2008 Express and IIS 7.5. I've noticed that SQL Server tends to use as much memory as it can, to the detriment of other applications (and this makes sense with a server is dedicated to running SQL Server). Should I set a limit? If so, what would a reasonable level be?
My new project would be a custom IDE for proprietary Application creation. This can be a Shell based application on VS Shell.
I wanted to know what are the license requirement for these kind of applications.
My question: If I create my project as VS Shell based Application, what kind of license is required by the end user of the Shell based application?
I have stored the videos in the documents folder. the path is
/Users/sridhar/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/EC177E77-8665-485C-93DE-62350FA6D0E7/Documents/air.mp4
I want to delete the video . How can I do it programmatically.
Hi,
I'm looking for a free solution just to learn how to develop applications for Blackberry and iPhone on Windows that includes a Blackberry and iPhone simulator.
The closest program I came across to this was DragonFireSDK but its not free. Any suggestions?
Hello,
Suppose we have 3 apps - appMain, app1 and app2.
Applications 1 and 2 are protected, they have is_secure: true and everything works fine with sfDoctrineGuard plugin.
A behavior I want to achieve is when a user is not authenticated, current application to forward him to another one, say appMain with defined module and action.
Is that possible? Or can someone tell me where to dig about security mechanisms in symfony?
Why a popup created like this is shown in front of all windows applications with JRE 1.6.0_18 but it doesn't using 1.6.0_03 ?
PopupFactory popupFactory = new PopupFactory();
Popup popup= popupFactory.getPopup(null,new JPanel(),200,200);
popup.show();
I'm looking for the fastest, least memory consuming, stand alone storage method available for large amounts of data for my C# app.
My initial thoughts:
Sql: no. not stand alone
XML in flat file: no. takes too long to parse large amounts of data
Other Options?
Basically what i'm looking for, is a way that i can load with my applications load, keep all the data in my app, and when the data in my app changes just update the storage location.
By default DB connections of JPA applications are configured in the META-INF/persistence.xml, when the application is not deployed to a full Java EE application server. In my opinion it is not very elegant to place such environment specific configuration into a file that is inside a .war file. How could a DB connection of a Servlet based JPA application be configured more flexible (=outside of the .war file)?
When I build Rails applications I find myself doing the same things over and over again. This includes adding the same gems/plugins, configuration info and custom initializers, rake tasks etc... etc....
This can't be a good thing.
So, is there a way to package all this repetitive code into some sort of project template ... so that I can do a "rails myapp" and have everything good to go from there?
Btw, running 2.3.5 if that matters :)
thanks
Hey everybody, this is not really a question, I have just written an article on Code Project on how to create rich interactive backgrounds for Silverlight applications. This background reacts to a users mouse movements and causes a fluid animation of the background elements.
I understand you still need to drive a lot of server-client communications, saving data in central repositories etc etc.
But what is the primal impact of HTML5 on these platforms when building web applications? Major changes that developers should be vary about?
Hello everyone,
I am using MacBook Pro Mac OS 10.5. I am new to this development environment. I am previous working on Windows. I am wondering whether there is similar function like "show desktop" (shortcut is Windows Key + D) on Mac to Windows, which will hide all applications and show a clean desktop? THis function is very convenient for my development on Mac.
thanks in advance,
George
I've written a couple of c# forms applications which use a lot of the same data/objects which would better be combined. I realise I could use modal forms to launch each of these but where should I state .dll's and other resources, on the parent form? or on each other form where necessary?
Hello,
I am having a rather strange problem, I deployed 2 .NET applications on my machine. Both run on v2.0.
Now, while one of it works smoothly, the other one doesn't even start! Moreover, it doesn't throw any error, I couldn't see any error listings in the Event Viewer.
Becoming hard to debug. On every other machine, both the exe's work perfectly fine!
Any known issues?
Thanks
