  • Should I use my models in a library?

    - by Piers
I've got my auth library in codeigniter which accesses the database to check to see if the email/password combination is correct. If I'm sticking to the MVC practice, should I move the function that interacts with the database to my model, or is it best practice to leave it where it is so I can use it in the future? Doesn't make much difference to me, other than the fact I'd have to re-write the library and create the function in my model, but if that's the way it should be then so be it.

  • PHPMailer - what sending method is most appropriate?

    - by Stomped
Hello. I need to use PHPMailer to send emails out for the following reasons: small lists (less then 500) password resets general notifications, 100ish emails at a time And PHPMailer gives me the option to send via mail(), sendmail, or SMTP. Is there any reason to prefer one of these methods over the other? I don't know enough about email services in general to make an informed decision.

  • How are cookies sent to a website

    - by Phenom
After you enter your name and password on a website, a cookie is stored on your computer. Your computer then sends information from that cookie to the website whenever you browse to another page on that site so that the site knows who you are. How is information from the cookie sent? Does the browser append information from within the cookie to the html address?

  • vb6 ADODB TSQL procedure call quit working after database migration

    - by phill
This code was once working on sql server 2005. Now isolated in a visual basic 6 sub routine using ADODB to connect to a sql server 2008 database it throws an error saying: "Login failed for user 'admin' " I have since verified the connection string does work if i replace the body of this sub with the alternative code below this sub. When I run the small program with the button, it stops where it is marked below the asterisk line. Any ideas? thanks in advance. Private Sub Command1_Click() Dim cSQLConn As New ADODB.Connection Dim cmdGetInvoices As New ADODB.Command Dim myRs As New ADODB.Recordset Dim dStartDateIn As Date dStartDateIn = "2010/05/01" cSQLConn.ConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;" _ & "SERVER=NET-BRAIN;" _ & "Database=DB_app;" _ & "User Id=admin;" _ & "Password=mudslinger;" cSQLConn.Open cmdGetInvoices.CommandTimeout = 0 sProc = "GetUnconvertedInvoices" 'On Error GoTo GetUnconvertedInvoices_Err With cmdGetInvoices .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .CommandText = "_sp_cwm5_GetUnCvtdInv" .Name = "_sp_cwm5_GetUnCvtdInv" Set oParm1 = .CreateParameter("@StartDate", adDate, adParamInput) .Parameters.Append oParm1 oParm1.Value = dStartDateIn .ActiveConnection = cSQLConn End With With myRs .CursorLocation = adUseClient .LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic .CursorType = adOpenKeyset '.CursorType = adOpenStatic .CacheSize = 5000 '***************************Debug stops here .Open cmdGetInvoices End With If myRs.State = adStateOpen Then Set GetUnconvertedInvoices = myRs Else Set GetUnconvertedInvoices = Nothing End If End Sub Here is the code which validates the connection string is working. Dim cSQLConn As New ADODB.Connection Dim cmdGetInvoices As New ADODB.Command Dim myRs As New ADODB.Recordset cSQLConn.ConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;" _ & "SERVER=NET-BRAIN;" _ & "Database=DB_app;" _ & "User Id=admin;" _ & "Password=mudslinger;" cSQLConn.Open cmdGetInvoices.CommandTimeout = 0 sProc = "GetUnconvertedInvoices" With cmdGetInvoices .ActiveConnection = cSQLConn .CommandText = "SELECT top 5 * FROM tarInvoice;" .CommandType = adCmdText End With With myRs .CursorLocation = adUseClient .LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic '.CursorType = adOpenKeyset .CursorType = adOpenStatic '.CacheSize = 5000 .Open cmdGetInvoices End With If myRs.EOF = False Then myRs.MoveFirst Do MsgBox "Record " & myRs.AbsolutePosition & " " & _ myRs.Fields(0).Name & "=" & myRs.Fields(0) & " " & _ myRs.Fields(1).Name & "=" & myRs.Fields(1) myRs.MoveNext Loop Until myRs.EOF = True End If

  • PowerShell and interactive external programs

    - by CC
Hi all I'm attempting to write a PowerShell script that, among other things, runs two external programs, harvesting the output of one and providing it to the other. The problem is that the second program is interactive and asks for: - a password - an option (1, 2, or 3) - an option (Y or N) - output of external program 1 Note also that this is on XP with PowerShell v1 and .net v2.0 (no I can't upgrade) Any ideas how I would do this? • How would I duplicate the Rank function in a Sql Server Compact Edition SELECT statement?

    - by AMissico
It doesn't look like SQL Server Compact Edition supports the RANK() function. (See Functions (SQL Server Compact Edition) at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174077(SQL.90).aspx). How would I duplicate the RANK() function in a SQL Server Compact Edition SELECT statement. (Please use Northwind.sdf for any sample select statements, as it is the only one I can open with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.)

  • How can i run code on the client side from a browser?

    - by acidzombie24
With LLVM and silverlight this may be possible now (or it may be possible with flash). I like the user to select a file and then do the following things 1) Hash it with md5 and sha1 2) If archive check if an exe is in it 3) If archive check if password protected The first to see if the user has uploaded it already (today, yesterday, last month) 2nd to prevent viruses 3rd i should be fine without but if i decide to not allow protected archives i can warn before the user uploads it. How may i do this through the browser?

  • Can I create my own database from PHP?

    - by Roman
I have a working PHP server. Now I want to use databases (MySQL or something similar). Is it possible to create a database from PHP? I would like to emphasize that in my case I do not have any user-name and password to which I can use to connect to MySQL server. I also do not have a control-panel where I could create a database or a table in an existing database.

  • How Can I Log and Find the Most Expensive Queries?

    - by Pure.Krome
Hi folks The activity monitor in sql2k8 allows us to see the most expensive queries. Ok, that's kewl, but is there a way I can log this info or get this info via query analyser? I don't really want to have the Sql Management console open and me looking at the activity monitor dashboard. I want to figure out which queries are poorly written/schema is poorly designed, etc. Thanks heaps for any help!
