  • Multi-threaded Application with Readonly Properties

    - by Shiftbit
Should my multithreaded application with read only properties require locking? Since nothing is being written I assume there is no need for locks, but I would like to make sure. Would the answer to this question be language agnostic? Without Lock: Private m_strFoo as new String = "Foo" Public ReadOnly Property Foo() As String Get return m_strFoo.copy() End Get End Property With Lock: Private m_strBar as new String = "Bar" Public ReadOnly Property Bar() As String Get SyncLock (me) return m_strBar.copy() End Synclock End Get End Property

  • Python: Streaming Input with Subprocesses

    - by beary605
Since input and raw_input() stop the program from running anymore, I want to use a subprocess to run this program... while True: print raw_input() and get its output. This is what I have as my reading program: import subprocess process = subprocess.Popen('python subinput.py', stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) while True: output=process.stdout.read(12) if output=='' and process.poll()!=None: break if output!='': sys.stdout.write(output) sys.stdout.flush() When I run this, the subprocess exits almost as fast as it started. How can I fix this?

  • Checking an empty Core Data relationship (SQLite)

    - by rwat
I have a to-many relationship in my data model, and I'd like to get all the objects that have no corresponding objects in the relationship. For example: Customer - Purchases I want to get all Customers that have 0 Purchases. I've read somewhere that I could use "Purchases[SIZE] = 0", but this gives me an unsupported function expression error, which I think means it doesn't work with a SQLite backing store (which I don't want to switch from, due to some performance constraints). Any ideas?

  • Is there a Moria like theme for Visual Studio 2010?

    - by Junior Mayhé
Is there some cool Moria like theme for Visual Studio 2010? Mine is highlighting gray font with gray background! I just can't configure it on Tools-Options-Environment-Fonts and Colors menu. Visual Studio doesn't seem to show an item for this "highlighting keyword/tag system". You select a variable on variable called myVar, and it highlights all with the same name but with a grayer color and gray background. I just can't read it and can't set it.

  • Why did you decide "against" using Erlang?

    - by Zubair
Have you actually "tried" (means programmed in, not just read an article on it) Erlang and decided against it for a project? If so, why? Also, if you have opted to go back to your old language, or to use another functional language like F#, Haskell, Clojure, Scala, or something else then this counts too, and state why.

  • Evil merges in git - where do they come from?

    - by Benjol
I've read this question and the answers, but what isn't clear to me is WHO creates the "changes that do not appear in any parent". Is it the git merge algorithm screwing up? Or is it because the user has to manually adjust the conflicts to get the thing to build, introducing new code which wasn't in either parent?

  • Why is it safe to use copy & paste in Flash but not in Javascript?

    - by Lenni
I'm trying to use copy'n paste in one of my web apps and have read a few articles/SO questions about it. Most people say that using Flash is the only option since most browsers don't allow access to the system clipboard because of security concerns. I can understand this but I wonder why it is okay for Flash do this, but not for the browser. Or has it got nothing to do with security and it is simply to complicated to implement this for cross-platform browser vendors?
