  • When it Comes to SEO Services, There Are Plenty of Link Building Service Providers to Choose From

How many SEO services providers are out there as of this date is anyone's guess but when it comes to picking one, it's not really easy to pick one out of so many. Since any SEO company can write anything they wish or claim anything on their site, it is important to validate such claim before hiring an SEO company. Do a little research on Google about the SEO Company in question who you want to hire for your link building service. This way you will run into some reviews posted by previous clients based on which you can make a decision.

  • Why would companies allow these practices?

    - by MuduM
Here's a situation that usually happens in some companies: Announce interesting product X. Promise a release date. Release on the promised released date, ready or not. Users discover and report defects. Send patch after patch after patch after patch after patch. My question is: Ummm, what could be the factors that would lead them to tolerate these undesirable practices? So, in the name of quality, what can be practically and realistically improved in those practicies? I can think of time constraints, user feedback, sponsors pressuring the company, lack of money.

  • How do you stay in touch with a programming language?

    - by Abijeet Patro
I'll be starting work for the first time in the IT Industry on the 18th of this month. I'll be working mostly with Microsoft technologies such as C#.NET and MS Dynamic CRM. I spent the last year working with C++. Developing small applications to automate taks and organize my notes. During this time I have developed a good basic understanding of the language. My question is how do you guys stay in touch with a programming language that you love when you need to use something else at the office?

  • Printing Tip Handling User Initiated Dialogs Exceptions

I see this question every so often so it makes sense to share it through a quick post. When using the print API in Silverlight 4 you can run into the dreaded exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Dialogs must be user-initiated Then you examine your code and confirm that your code where you invoke the PrintDocuments Print method are indeed being handled by a user-initiated event. If you are not invoking Print in a user-initiated event then your know your solution :) Here is some sample...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • How does one get Bluetile on 12.04?

    - by JKN
I've been working on getting bluetile working on 12.04 so I can start down the path of tiling windows managers, but I have been having limited success. I have read the (only 7!) other posts on bluetile and tried the website, but unfortunately nothing seems to address precise thoroughly enough for me to get it working. I have tried getting gnome running on my machine via apt-get and following basic instructions from there, but without success. The apt-get for bluetile also fails (on selecting the gnome-bluetile session option, unity ends up opening anyway in a buggy, unstable way). I also messed around with specifying a custom xsession for lightdm to look at and setting the window-manager to bluetile, but again without success- somehow I ended up in unity again. Apologies if this question is too vague- I am new to really using linux systems, so sometimes I don't know what to ask or look for. Thanks!

  • User input and automated input separation

    - by tpaksu
I have a MySQL database and an automation script which modifies the data inside once a day. And these columns may have changed by an user manually. What is the best approach to make the system only update the automated data, not the manually edited ones? I mean yes, flagging the cell which is manually edited is one way to do it, but I want to know if there's another way to accomplish this? Just curiosity. BTW, the question is about cell values, not rows.

  • Add closure after concatenating files or keep one for each separate file?

    - by sdespolit
At the moment every javasrcipt file in our project includes closure wrapper. Before deploying all files are concatenated and minimized. And i'm asking myself, do we really need all that closures OR one closure added after concatenation will do the job. I can see only one reason not to do that - the variable we are sharing between files will get in the global namespace. But there is no conflict so is don't see any problem. The real question is what other cons may be? Or more generally what approach is better - one closure or many?

  • As good as no bounces are registered in Google Analytics [on hold]

    - by user29931
For a client I am having an issue for which I can't find an explanation. For some reason, bounces are no longer measured (or almost none) in GA. In GA I can see that the issue started in January 2013. I have been looking at the code inside and out, but I can't find any reason why. On the production site, there is (will be removed soon) a POST done on page load, so I thought that Google might see this as user interaction, hence never counting a bounce, but on staging i removed this POST and in the GA account for staging, still no bounces are registered. I have also checked if the tracking code appears twice on the page, and this is not the case. I tried with the GA debug plugin in Firefox and Chrome to see if that would learn me anything, but no luck... The site in question is www.kiala.be.

  • What is the ideal file size for a web page? [closed]

    - by Rob
Possible Duplicate: Is there a maximum size that web pages should be kept under? What is the ideal file size for a web page? Specifically when it comes to image sizes, what's the total file size for a webpage which includes several images. I tend to compress images down as much as possible before it starts to visually lose quality. We run several CMS website's and the clients tend to ask this question a lot! I'd love to hear another view on it.

  • Is Google indexing pages that has no connection with other pages? [duplicate]

    - by Grkmksk
This question already has an answer here: How did Google find my unlinked newly created pages? 3 answers I am working on a web project that has nearly 100 thousand instant users and there is a webpage that we are using for test cases. There are no links pointing to it from other pages. It shouldn't be indexed by Google or any other search engines. "noindex" can be used in this situation, I know but I wonder if Google (or any others) indexes this page, if I don't do anything to prevent it.

  • how to stop enemies from moving to one point when lots of them are chasing one object [duplicate]

    - by BBgun
This question already has an answer here: Is there a simple way to stop enemies standing in the same spot? 8 answers i am making a top down game which lots of enemies are chasing one guy. then, enemies would move to one point without any collision, they just overlay each other. so ,is there any simple way to make them feel more real? make them not overlay with each other? ================================= i have tried the solution using boundbox to check collision, but i still very puzzled about what to do with the collision. i have a bad solution.it doesn't work well. my solution in simple: foreach(around_enemy_arr in other) { vector a = normalize(self.positionvector - other.positionvector); self.move_vector = self.move_vector + a; } this can work, but when plenty of enemies come very close to each other, they would shake. i am sooooo confused. please help.

  • Can I display ads on a site whose domain name includes a trademark?

    - by architect
I own a domain containing a trademarked word. I don't want to get into trouble with the trademark owner so my plan is to use the domain to display information (wiki-style) about the service the trademark owner provides. My question is whether I can display ads on this website to make money. For example, let's say I own Google.org (Google being a trademark). On this domain I would write about the real Google (history, business etc.) Can I get into trouble for having ads on this page including ones that promote other search engines (Yahoo, Bing, etc.).

  • Would you use (a dialect of) LISP for a real-world application? Where and why?

    - by Anto
LISP (and dialects such as Scheme, Common LISP and Clojure) haven't gained much industry support even though they are quite decent programming languages. (At the moment though it seems like they are gaining some traction). Now, this is not directly related to the question, which is would you use a LISP dialect for a production program? What kind of program and why? Usages of the kind of being integrated into some other code (e.g. C) are included as well, but note that it is what you mean in your answer. Broad concepts are preferred but specific applications are okey as well.

  • How can I allow search engines to index my invite only website in ruby on rails?

    - by tstyle
I have a ruby on rails website that will be in invite-only mode for the next couple of months. Currently I have it set up so visits to any page performs an authentication: before_filter :authenticate, :except => [:beta] //authenticate checks for a logged in user But the webpage has a lot of content that I would like to see indexed by search engines, and I was wondering if there's an easy way to allow crawlers to do their work? I am not very knowledgable on SEO related stuff at all, so sorry if this is an suboptimal way to phrase the question.

  • My Future as a Developer

    - by jmquigley
You have been a developer for 16 years, mostly in the unix environment woring with C, C++ and Java. You are proficient in those skills, but can always improve. The jobs for C and C++ developers working in the Unix environment are not as plentiful as they used to be, so you're looking to expand your skills. If you were going to focus on an area of technology for the next 10 years, and you had a choice of C# or to continue with your work in Java and expand those skills, which would you choose and why? I love being a programmer. I want to focus on an area that would put me in demand so that I can continue to be a programmer. This is not meant to be subjective, I'm looking for guidance and advice from other professionals. This is a question that is at the front of my mind right now. TIA.

  • Working environment

    - by Yottatron
I realise that this might not be the right place to ask questions about employment and that the question my raise debate etc. The company I work for recently decided that rather than having one web developer working on sites from a branch it would be better to make that person come into head office and work in the middle of a busy call centre. Also they're expecting the developer to answer the phone if it rings and take messages. Does anyone find that strange? Is it really the right place for a programmer to work? Thanks for the advice

  • What is the difference between installing Ubuntu on a USB device and a laptop hardisk? [duplicate]

    - by Max
This question already has an answer here: Difference between LiveCD, LiveUSB, full-install, and persistence? 1 answer Now, I have a laptop with Windows 8. For various reasons, I want to install Ubuntu that I can carry with me on the various PCs I work with. The same installation so that I don't have to constantly take care of installing new things and dependencies. Can I do a full installation of Ubuntu in a USB? Can I install softwares and other things in the USB itself so that I can boot it anywhere I want? What is the difference of this installation from full installation on a laptop harddisk? What features will and will not work with the USB option? Thanks!

  • Deals Well With Ambiguity

A while ago I was talking with my manager at the time about traits that we value in a Program Manager. He related an anecdote about an interview he gave where it became clear that the candidate did not deal well with ambiguity. This is an important trait for nearly every job, but especially for PMs as projects can often change on a dime and its important understand how to make progress amidst ambiguity and eventually drive towards resolving ambiguity. Lately, Ive been asking myself the question,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Ways to earn money through programming and/or programming knowledge [closed]

    - by Jason Swett
It occurred to me today that it might be useful to make a list of all the ways to earn money through either actual programming or just programming knowledge. I imagine it's probably a finite list as long as you stick to a reasonable level of granularity. Here's what I have so far: Trading your time for money (i.e. having a job or being a freelancer) Building your own software product (a full-fledged startup or a tiny mobile app or whatever) Giving talks at conferences and meetups Teaching students in a classroom Writing a book or blog (these are products, but non-software products) I've probably missed at least a few. What else is there? (I'm not sure whether this is an appropriate question, by the way. I think I would select the best answer based on how practical/original/interesting/numerous your suggestions are.)

  • How can I redirect the contents of a file to the pastebinit command? [duplicate]

    - by Tim
This question already has an answer here: How to submit a file to paste.ubuntu.com without graphical interface? 2 answers Whenever I was to store something to show someone here, I run command-with-output | pastebinit. That returns the link to the paste online. For example: echo timtjtim | pastebinit gave me the link paste.ubuntu.com/8010000 Which I can share. How can I do this with a file - for example a log file. Surely I don't have to open - > copy all - > open paste.ubuntu.com -> paste it?
