  • How can I create a cron job that runs a task every three weeks?

    I have a task that needs to be performed on my project schedule (3 weeks). I'm able to set up cron to do this every week, or (for example) on the 3rd week of every month - but can't find a way to do this every three weeks. I could hack the script to create temporary files (or similar) so it could work out it was the third time it has been run - but this solution smells. Can it be done in a clean way?

  • VM Virtual guest machine disk defrag improves performance, myth or reality?

    In operation of a virtual Vmware or Hyper-V guest typically advice is given to defrag the host and virtual disk images so to result in improved performance. Something like a cmd: vmware-vdiskmanager -d <file.vmdk> works great. Yet I can't find any qualitive evidence that suggest defraging inside the guest VM improves performance. Does anyone have advice or evidence that doesn't come from a commercial defragger's whitepaper that suggests inside guest defragging helps?

  • raid 0 failure, drives look fine

    Hello, after a lovely blue screen my vista 64 machine decided to reconfigure one of my drives to no longer be part of my raid volume. So now my raid fails as it only has one member disk. This happened to me about 6 months ago and I just changed the disk in question back to a raid disk and all was well. However I cant seem to find that option in my bios or raid config anymore :( Any help would be appreciated

    I would like to be able to pull changes on a remote server from an SVN server on a local development box. The SVN port is closed to the WAN but available via our LAN and we have a VPN setup locally. Is it difficult to setup the remote server to use VPN to connect to the remote SVN server and update code? The favicon is now hosted off of amazon S3 but it appears somewhere we still have a link to the old one that I can't find anywhere (I'm a new employee here so I'm not too familiar with things). How can I do a grep search for favicon.ico that doesn't start with http://s3.amazon.com ?

  • Add send/receive to Outlook systray icon?

    Is it possible to add a send/receive action to the Outlook 2007 system tray right-click context menu? It's a little annoying to have to open the whole interface just to run this simple action manually. I have searched for an answer, but could only find two other unanswered questions. If there's no particular answer as of yet, would it make more sense to explore making a plug-in like this one to keep running in the systray when closed, or to look for a registry hack, or something else entirely?

  • Where are stickies ( Sticky Notes) stored on mac 10.9.3?

    i deleted an important note on stickies. And i retrieved an old version of it in time machine under preferences / widgets. but the setup appears to have changed in my upgrade to mavericks and I can't open the note. I'm trying to open a "post-mavericks" version in my time machine and I can't find where it is. i saw a post that said look under Library/Preferences/Container, i have no such folder or binary document. Please help.

    I have get_iplayer installed on a Windows 7 PC and, generally, it has worked without too many problems. Now I find that I cannot download "The Sinking of the Laconia" from the BBC. Both episodes are still available for viewing (although only episode 2 has a live ' download' option). An error message saying 'ERROR: RTMP_ReadPacket, failed to read RTMP packet header' may be relevant? If anyone can help before the programme becomes unavailable, I'd be grateful

    Whenever my pc boots it tries to start powerpoint, which crashes and asks if it should be started in safe mode. After this wether you click yes or no powerpoint starts.     I'm trying to work out the rsync filter syntax to perform complex include/excludes, and trying to achieve the following: Include / Exclude /home Include /home/user1/* I've tried many variations on the filter syntax, and despite reading the man page many time, I cannot get this sort of effect. Rsync filters seem to be very powerful, and I find it hard to believe they couldn't handle a common scenario such as this.
