    recently I found a video on the net ( a .mp4 file), and when I had it on my computer with Windows7, I noticed its thumbnail was not the average windows 7 video thumbnail (which looks like a piece of video film with a random picture from the movie), but a custom thumbnail! Looking in the file properties did not help find the correct button to change the thumbnail...so I just wonder how he did it!     Is there any way to extract the Windows 8 Start Screen patterns, in order to use them as standalone wallpapers on other systems? For example see this screenshot: I am interested in the dark blue background. I heard that this background is somehow adapted to your chosen color theme. So many different variations should exist. Engadget has an article here briefly talking about these background patterns and the different color schemes. They call them "personalization tattoos".

  • Execute a program by double-clicking the taskbar and/or the desktop, Windows 7

    It would be so useful, and not very difficult, because in fact I have Directory Opus installed (a very powerful windows explorer alternative) and it does exactly that, but only by double-clicking the desktop, not the taskbar. Similar options with middle-click would also be nice, such as scrolling the taskbar (maybe cycling directly through the Alt-Tab window). 7 Task Tweaker is close to this, actually, but it doesn't do what I would like.

  • Windows 7 freezing after returning from idle.

    If i return to my windows 7 x64 computer after it has been idle for a couple of minutes it will respond for 3 seconds and after that everything freezes for around 5-30 seconds and then the computer starts working normally again. The freezing time varies and some times it even get stuck there forever requiring a hard reboot. This is very annoying as you can imagine, it's almost as slow as resuming from hibernation every time you left it idle enough to turn off the monitor.

  • Vmware Player network adapters have no network or internet access in Windows 7 enterprise

    As per the title. My VMWare player installation has setup the two network adaptor VMnet1 and VMnet8 and they are picked up as unidentified networks with no network access (i need this to activate my windows server installation on it). The option to change the network location is not available (this might be because of network policy on the domain despite having set this as configurable in the local security policy section). Is there anyway i can change how these networks are detected or alter the configuration of vmware to get around this?

  • recursively delete empty directories in windows

    I have a directory on my Windows 7 machine that has hundreds if not thousands of sub-directories. Some of them have files, some do not. I want to delete all the empty directories. Looking at the del and rmdir DOS command, it does not look like you can recursively do this without deleting all the files. Is there a way to do this from the command line? Or is there a tool that would do it for me?

    I recall once stumbling on a program that could take multiple application windows and wrap them inside a large window with a tabbed interface. One use of this, for example, would be to wrap multiple instances of Excel into one window, and thus icon on the taskbar. I couldn't find mention of this program via Google, because of the multiple meanings of the word "window". Does anyone remember, or know of, such a program?

It's a pretty simple algorithm to scale the image so that one of the dimensions (usually height) fits on the screen.   • Translation of default folder names in Windows

    Windows (all versions) folders have their standard names such as Users, Documents, Local Settings etc that are unfortunately translated in other language versions, and thus instead of the names that are in the path to the folder they appear in the file explorer under quite different names. For example, instead Pictures I get "Moje obrazy" (translation into Polish language), and yet in the path it is still "pictures". This is very confusing and I would like to turn this automatic translation off, but can't find how.

  • Load program to one side of monitor in Windows 7

    This is a question to enhance the feature on Windows 7, where you drag the screen to one side and it docks to that side of the screen. Is there a way to have it so when I load a program, it knows that I always like it docked on the right side, so it just loads on the right side? And I don't have to drag it to the right. It will be done for Internet Explorer, so, if there is no setting on the Shortcut for this, can it be programmed into the browser?
