  • Control Javascript > CSS through Flash

    - by Jason b.
    Hi All, Ideal situation/setup: A page containing 1 Flash movie and a separate div containing a few hyperlinks. These hyperlinks each have a unique class name like so: Copy code <ul> <li><a href="" class="randomname1"></a></li> <li><a href="" class="randomname2"></a></li> <li><a href="" class="randomname3"></a></li> <li><a href="" class="randomname4"></a></li> </ul> The Flash movie itself will contain 4 buttons. Clicking on one of these buttons should make the Flash communicate with Jquery/JS and tell it to highlight the specific classname. Ideas so far For the javascript, it would look like $(function() { function setClass(className) {$("."+className).css("background","red");} }); And in specific keyframes within Flash 1. button 1 ExternalInterface.call("setClass","randomname1"); 1. button 2 ExternalInterface.call("setClass","randomname2"); 1. button 3 ExternalInterface.call("setClass","randomname3"); 1. button 4 ExternalInterface.call("setClass","randomname4"); The problem is that it is not really working well and i am not sure if i am making Flash communicate with JS properly. Any ideas or hints to steer me in the right direction again? Thank you in advance J.

  • jQuery Grouping Similar Items and Counting When Repeated

    - by NessDan
    So I have this structure setup: <ul> <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw1Vh9Yzryo</li> (Vid1) <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOF3o8B292U</li> (Vid2) <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAY4vNJd7A8</li> (Vid3) <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAY4vNJd7A8</li> <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw1Vh9Yzryo</li> <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOF3o8B292U</li> <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAY4vNJd7A8</li> <li>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw1Vh9Yzryo</li> </ul> Vid1 is repeated 3 times, Vid2 is repeated 3 times, and Vid3 is repeated 2 times. I want to put them into a structure where I can reference them like this: Vid1 - 3 (Repeated), http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=dw1Vh9Yzryo&fmt=36 (Download) Vid2 - 3 (Repeated), http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=bOF3o8B292U&fmt=36 (Download) Vid3 - 2 (Repeated), http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=yAY4vNJd7A8&fmt=36 (Download) "This video was repeated " + [Vid1][Repeated] + " times and you can download it here: " + [Vid1][Download]; How can I set this structure up? I think I should be using an array to achieve the above but I'm not sure how I would set it up or how to reference certain things in the array. The other question is how can I get how many times something was repeated? The URL I have no problem with. Can anyone help me out?

  • print friendly version of floated list

    - by Brad
    I have a list of phone extensions that I want to print a friendly version of it. I have a print css for it to print appropriately onto paper, the extensions are located within an unordered list, which are floated to the left. <ul> <li>Larry Hughes <span class="ext">8291</span></li> <li>Chuck Davis <span class="ext">3141</span></li> <li>Kevin Skillis <span class="ext">5115</span></li> </ul> I float it left, and when it prints the second page, it leaves off the name part of the list (in Firefox, works fine in Google Chrome and IE), see here: http://cl.ly/de965aea63f66c13ba32 I am referring to this: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/goingtoprint/ - they mentioned something about applying a float:none; to the content part of the page. If I do that, how should I go about making the list show up in 4 columns? It is a dynamic list, pulled from a database. Any help is appreciated.

  • Bootstrap inline button dropdown within <p> jumbotron

    - by C.B.
    Currently I have a jumbotron setup with some paragraph text, and I would like to stick a button dropdown inline with the text. Dropdown button <span class="btn-group"> <button type="button" class="btn btn-default dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown"> Button... <span class="caret"></span> </button> <ul class="dropdown-menu" role="menu"> <li><a href="#">Opt 1</a></li> <li><a href="#">Opt 2</a></li> </ul> </span> Jumbotron <div class="jumbotron"> <h1>Hello!</h1> <p>Welcome</p> <p>Another paragraph <!-- dropdown is here --> </p> </div> <!-- jumbotron --> If the dropdown is within the <p> tag, it does not "dropdown" (but renders). If it is outside of the <p> tag it functions fine, but I would like it to be inline with the text and need the text to be in the <p> tag to get the style. Any ideas? Things to note -- If I replace the <span> tags with <div> tags, it will work fine within the <p> tags, but won't be inline.

  • Outstanding issues with jQuery.ajax() in IE8?

    - by RyanV
    I am loading feed-items into a ul using this jQuery .ajax() call, which I basically lifted from http://www.makemineatriple.com/2007/10/bbcnewsticker/ var timestamp = true; //set whether timestamp is displayed in $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "sample-feed.xml", dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { $(xml).find('item').each(function(){ var title = $(this).find('title').text(); var link = $(this).find('link').text(); if(title.length >=57){ title = title.substring(0,54) + "..."; } var addItem = '<li class="tickerTitle"><a href="'+link+'">'+title+'</a>'; if (Boolean(timestamp)== true){ var time = new Date(Date.parse($(this).find('pubDate').text())); addItem +='<span class="timestamp">' + makestamp(time) +'</span></li>'; } $('ul#news').append(addItem); }); It works in Chrome 4 and Firefox 3.6, but I load it up in IE8 and somehow the ajax call fails. I have tried to use IE8's Developer tools to see where exactly it fails, but I haven't been successful yet. So two questions Is there anything blatantly wrong with my ajax call here that could be preventing me from seeing it in IE where it works in FF/Chrome? Are there any special considerations I have to make for the Internet Explorer family of browsers with regards to this particular jQuery method? I've done some googling on this but nothing obvious is coming up. One other note: I am currently using jQuery 1.3.2 due to some legacy scripts on the same site. I did try loading 1.4.2 and it had the same results on IE8

  • My javascript doesn't work on IE. What should I change?

    - by klm
    I'm making simple site for my school project. My code doesn't work on my teacher's PC (he has IE 6 or 7 - I don't remember). I use it to change content on site (kind of menu). html: <ul> <li onclick="run(1)"> ... </li> <li onclick="run(2)"> ... </li> <li onclick="run(3)"> ... </li> <li onclick="run(4)"> .... </li> <li onclick="run(5)"> .... </li> <li onclick="run(6)"> .... </li> </ul> Script: function run(x) { ///New Content: var a = ... var e = "<a href='xxxx'> aaaaaa</a>" //example ///////////////////// var p = document.getElementById("content"); if(x === 1) { p.innerHTML=a; } else if(x === 2) { p.innerHTML=b; } else if(x === 3) { p.innerHTML=c; } else if(x === 4) { p.innerHTML=d; } else if(x === 5) { p.innerHTML=e; } else { p.innerHTML=f; } };

  • ASP.NET MVC 2: HtmlHelpers, foreach?

    - by dcolumbus
    This one is new to me... I'm bringing in a Model that represents a list of items. Some items should be rendered as a number of checkboxes and radios. Others will be rendered in a list. Now I know how to foreach the items and spit them out manually... but I'd like to be able to check them against the Model that I have, making sure that at least one optios is selected/chosen. And obviously display the associated validation errors. This is how I am displaying the checkbox items manually: <ul> <% foreach (Corporate.Entities.DesignLayout.Tag tag in Model.DesignOptions.Items) { %> <li><input type="checkbox" /><%: tag.TagName %></li> <% } %> </ul> Two questions arise: 1) How do I check that list of checkboxes against my model? 2) How would I render the tag items with an HtmlHelper SelectList? Example: <%: Html.ListBoxFor(m=>m.DesignOptions, [don't know what I should put here]) %>

  • PHP Multiple navigation highlights

    - by Blackbird
    I'm using this piece of code below to highlight the "active" menu item on my global navigation. <?php $path = $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; $page = basename($path); $page = basename($path, '.php'); ?> <ul id="nav"> <li class="home"><a href="index.php">Home</a></li> <li <?php if ($page == 'search') { ?>class="active"<?php } ?>><a href="#">Search</a></li> <li <?php if ($page == 'help') { ?>class="active"<?php } ?>><a href="help.php">Help</a></li> </ul> All works great but, on a couple of pages, I have a second sub menu (sidebar menu) within a global page. I basically need to add a OR type statement into the php somehow, but I haven't a clue a how. Example of what i mean: <li <?php if ($page == 'help') OR ($page == 'help-overview') OR ($page == 'help-cat-1') { ?>class="active"<?php } ?>><a href="#">Search</a></li> Thanks!

  • PHP active page code - I can't figure out parse error

    - by dmschenk
    I'm trying to build an active page menu with PHP and MySQL and am having a difficult time fixing the error. In the while statement I have an if statement that is giving me fits. Basically I think I'm saying that "thispage" is equal to the "title" based on pageID and as the menu is looped through if "thispage" is equal to "title" then echo id="active". Thanks <?php mysql_select_db($database_db_connection, $db_connection); $query_rsDaTa = "SELECT * FROM pages WHERE pagesID = 4"; $rsDaTa = mysql_query($query_rsDaTa, $db_connection) or die(mysql_error()); $row_rsDaTa = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsDaTa); $totalRows_rsDaTa = mysql_num_rows($rsDaTa); $query_rsMenu = "SELECT * FROM menu WHERE online = 1 ORDER BY menuPos ASC"; $rsMenu = mysql_query($query_rsMenu, $db_connection) or die(mysql_error()); $thisPage = ($row_rsDaTa['title']); ?> <link href="../css/MainStyle.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <h2><?php echo $thisPage; ?></h2> <div id="footcontainer"> <ul id="footlist"> <?php while($row_rsMenu = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsMenu)) { echo (" <li" . <?php if ($thisPage==$row_rsDaTa['title']) echo id="active"; ?> .   • Firefox and Chrome do not support cross-domian ajax by default?

    - by Ethan
    The following code works as expected in IE8 and Safari4, but not work in Firefox3.6 and Chrome. All browsers are on Windows. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <link href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('#tabs').tabs(); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.google.com/">Google</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.msn.com/">MSN</a></li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> Seems that Firefox and Chrome do not support cross-domian ajax by default, right? Is there any easy way to turn on cross-domian ajax in Firefox and Chrome?

  • HTML Double Click Selection Oddity

    - by Aren B
    I didn't post this on DocType because it's not really a design thing, the visual representation isn't my problem, the behaviour is. I'm sorry if this is misplaced but I don't feel it's a designer issue. The following DOM: <ul style="overflow: hidden;"> <li style="float: left;"><strong>SKU:</strong>123123</li> <li style="float: left;"><strong>ILC:</strong>asdasdasdasd</li> </ul> Or <div style="overflow: hidden;"> <div style="float: left; width: 49%"><strong>SKU:</strong>123123</div> <div style="margin-left: 50%; width: auto;"><strong>ILC:</strong>asdasdasdasd</div> </div> Or <p> <span><strong>SKU:</strong>123123</span> <span><strong>ILC:</strong>asdasdasdasd</span> </p> All present me an odd problem in IE 6 IE 7 Firefox 3.x Chrome But not in IE 8 When you double click '123123' after 'SKU:', it selects '123123' AND 'ILC:' from the next dom element. Take any text on this page (here in SO), double click a word, it only selects THAT WORD, even in the middle of a paragraph. These examples have dom elements closing them, anyone know why this is happening. My fellow employees use the 'double click' mechanism to select the relevant product ID's to do their job, and this dosen't make sense to me what soever.

  • Div appearing outside its parent, bizarre sizing problems...

    - by SLC
    I have a list, which is going to be a menu. I want to position it absolutely at the very top of the page. My code looks like this: <div id="sitenavmenu"> <div id="sitenavmenu-content"> <ul id="sitenavmenu-content-menu"> <li>Register</li> <li><%: Html.ActionLink("About", "About", "Home")%></li> <li>Contact Us</li> </ul> </div> </div> My CSS looks like this: #sitenavmenu { position:absolute; margin-left:300px; top:2px; width:500px; } #sitenavmenu-content-menu li { list-style-type:none; display:inline; padding-right:5px; font-size:small; } The problem I have is, if I don't position it absolutely, it looks fine. As soon as I position it absolutely (as it is shown above), the sitenavmenu div changes size, and although it shifts to the top, the sitenavmenu-content div appears below it. There is no other CSS as I have only just started, and I have checked padding etc. and everything is zero. I just can't figure out why it's not working, and I don't want to hack it. Edit: It's something to do with the height of #sitenavmenu. If I leave it, then the sitenav-content ends up horizontally centered in it, although #sitenavmenu is much taller. If I make them both the same size, so they should sit on top of each other, then the #sitenavmenu-content sits below.

  • Passing a Variable into jQuery AJAX

    - by Scott
    I'm stuck in a rut. I hope some one can help. Basically, I am building an AJAX mobile web app with jQuery. I am able to parse a specific XML file just fine, but I want the option to parse other XML files based on the link they were clicked on and load them on the fly into the same DIV or UL. So: click on Link1, loads XML1 click on Link2, loads XML2 I would like to be able to do this all client side, so no PHP (or is that a bad idea?). This the jquery code I've been using: $(document).ready(function() { $("a.load_ajax").click(loadAjax()); function loadAjax() { var fileID = get('?lineID='); var dataID = "xml/" + fileID + ".xml" $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: dataID, dataType: "xml", success: parseXml }); function parseXml(xml) { $(xml).find("train").each(function() { $("ul#ajax-output").append('<li>' + $(this).find("time").text() + '</li>'); }); } } }); Its just not working at all. I have been passing the variable using GET in the url. So the link in the HTML goes to /?lineID=SBD_to_Union and it should load the XML file called SBD_to_Union.xml Making sense to anyone? I'd appreciate some help.

  • Is there a way to check if a div has the same class as an ancestor in jQuery?

    - by T.R.
    I'm looking to dynamically highlight a tab, if it represents the current page. I have: <style> #tabs li{bg-color: white;} body.Page1 #tabs .Page1, body.Page2 #tabs .Page2, body.Page3 #tabs .Page3{bg-color: orange;} </style> <body class="Page1 ADifferentClass"> <ul id="tabs"> <li class="Page1 SomeClass"> <li class="Page2 SomeOtherClass"> <li class="Page3 AnotherClass"> </ul> </body> As you can see, there needs to be CSS for each tab, so adding another page involves modifying both the HTML and the CSS. Is there a simple (DRY) way to check if two divs have the same class already built into jQuery? I ultimately went with this: <script> $(document).ready(function(){ var classRE = /Page\d+/i; var pageType = $('body').attr('className').match(classRE); $('li.'+pageType).addClass('Highlight'); }); </script> <style> #tabs li{bg-color: white;} #tabs li.Highlight{bg-color: orange;} </style>

  • Troubleshooting multiple GET variables In PHP

    - by V413HAV
    This may be a very simple question but I don't what's the wrong thing am doing here... To explain you clearly, I've set a real simple example below: <ul> <li><a href="test.php?link1=true">Link 1</a></li> <li><a href="test.php?link2=true">Link 2</a></li> <li><a href="test.php?link3=true">Link 3</a></li> </ul> <?php if(isset($_GET['link1'])) { if(($_GET['link1']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 1'; } } if(isset($_GET['link2'])) { if(($_GET['link2']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 2'; } } if(isset($_GET['link3'])) { if(($_GET['link3']) == 'true') { echo 'This Is Link 3'; } } ?> This is a test.php page, here I've set 3 different arguments for $_GET, and show contents accordingly, now everything works perfect, the only thing am not understanding is how to block this kind of url say if user clicks on link 1 the url will be : http://localhost/test.php?link1=true And the Output of this url is This is Link 1 Now if I change this url to : http://localhost/test.php?link3=true&link2=true&link1=true And the Output what I get is This Is Link 1This Is Link 2This Is Link 3 Now this is ok here, but it's very annoying if someone types this and see's forms one below the other, any way I can stop this tampering?
