  • Why does Generic class signature requires specifying new() if type T needs instantiation ?

    - by this. __curious_geek
    I'm writing a Generic class as following. public class Foo<T> : where T : Bar, new() { public void MethodInFoo() { T _t = new T(); } } As you can see the object(_t) of type T is instantiated at run-time. To support instantiation of generic type T, language forces me to put new() in the class signature. I'd agree to this if Bar is an abstract class but why does it need to be so if Bar standard non-abstract class with public parameter-less constructor. compiler prompts following message if new() is not found. Cannot create an instance of the variable type 'T' because it does not have the new() constraint

  • Objects with inheritance memory storage

    - by nikitas350
    Say that i have some classes like this example. class A { int k, m; public: A(int a, int b) { k = a; m = b; } }; class B { int k, m; public: B() { k = 2; m = 3; } }; class C : private A, private B { int k, m; public: C(int a, int b) : A(a, b) { k = b; m = a; } }; Now, in a class C object, are the variables stored in a specific way? I know what happens in a POD object, but this is not a POD object...

  • C# keyhook question

    - by user203123
    I copied the following code from http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/CSLLKeyboardHook.aspx, public int hookProc(int code, int wParam, ref keyboardHookStruct lParam) { if (code >= 0) { Keys key = (Keys)lParam.vkCode; if (HookedKeys.Contains(key)) { KeyEventArgs kea = new KeyEventArgs(key); if((wParam == WM_KEYDOWN || wParam == WM_SYSKEYDOWN) && (KeyDown != null)) {KeyDown(this, kea) ;} else if ((wParam == WM_KEYUP || wParam == WM_SYSKEYUP) && (KeyUp != null)) {KeyUp(this, kea); } if (kea.Handled) {return 1;} } } lParam.vkCode ++; lParam.scanCode ++; return CallNextHookEx(hhook, code, wParam, ref lParam); } It works fine but when I make a little change: lParam.vkCode ++; or lParam.scanCode ++; right before the return CallNextHookEx(...), the original keys still appears in Notepad. Ex. If I press "a", I expect the letter in Notepad will be "b" but it still "a". It seems like "lParam" doesn't change. Couldn't understand why?

  • C++: Could Polymorphic Copy Constructors work?

    - by 0xC0DEFACE
    Consider: class A { public: A( int val ) : m_ValA( val ) {} A( const A& rhs ) {} int m_ValA; }; class B : public A { public: B( int val4A, int val4B ) : A( val4A ), m_ValB( val4B ) {} B( const B& rhs ) : A( rhs ), m_ValB( rhs.m_ValB ) {} int m_ValB; }; int main() { A* b1 = new B( 1, 2 ); A* b2 = new A( *b1 ); // ERROR...but what if it could work? return 0; } Would C++ be broken if "new A( b1 )" was able to resolve to creating a new B copy and returning an A? Would this even be useful?

  • Is my approach for persistent login secure ?

    - by Jay
    I'm very much stuck with the reasonable secure approach to implement 'Remember me' feature in a login system. Here's my approach so far, Please advice me if it makes sense and is reasonably secure: Logging: User provides email and password to login (both are valid).. Get the user_id from DB Table Users by comparing provided email Generate 2 random numbers hashed strings: key1, key2 and store in cookies. In DB Table COOKIES, store key1, key2 along with user_id. To Check login: If key1 and key2 both cookies exist, validate both keys in DB Table COOKIES (if a row with key1, and key2 exists, user is logged). if cookie is valid, regenrate key2 and update it in cookie and also database. Why re-genrating key: Because if someone steals cookie and login with that cookie, it will be working only until the real user login. When the real user will login, the stolen cookie will become invalid. Right? Why do I need 2 keys: Because if i store user_id and single key in cookie and database, and the user want to remember the password on another browser, or computer, then the new key will be updated in database, so the user's cookie in earlier browser/PC will become invalid. User wont be able to remember password on more than one place. Thanks for your opinions.

  • c# event and delegate question

    - by user359562
    I want to detach the custom event but could not detach. Please find below I am using -= to detach the event. I assume after this, TextChanged2 method should not be invoked as I have unregistered the event. Let me know if my understanding is wrong. public delegate void TextChangedEventHandler1(object sender, TextBoxargs ta); public event TextChangedEventHandler1 TextChanged1; private void textBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.TextChanged1 -= new TextChangedEventHandler1(TextChanged2); TextChanged2(sender, e); } public void TextChanged2(object sender, EventArgs e) { textBox1.Text = textBox1.Text.ToUpper(); }

  • Help to Understand PHP Code into C#

    - by user342944
    Hi Gurus, I am a C# guy and got this logic into php from a website. Need to implement the same in C#. $items = array(); while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)) { //parent id $pkey = $row['parent_id']; //child id $ckey = $row['category_id']; //store this $items[$pkey]['children'][$ckey] = $row['categoryname']; } //create our list $first = true; //create our list createList($items, $first); function createList($array, $first) { //we need access to the original array global $items; //first is a flag on whether or not this is the first item in the array //we use this flag so that you don't need to initially call the function using createList($array[0]['children']) if($first){ $array = $array[0]['children']; } echo "<ol>\n"; foreach($array as $key => $value){ echo "<li>{$value}"; //if this item does have children, display them if(isset($items[$key]['children'])){ echo "\n"; createList($items[$key]['children'], false); //set $first to false! } echo "</li>\n"; } echo "</ol>\n"; } In the above last line is it a 3 dimensional array or hashtable? it looks like its a hashtable cause [$pkey]['children'][$ckey] is bugging me.. Can anyone convert the above code in C#? I would really appreciate.

  • Is read-only auto-imlemented property possible?

    - by abatishchev
    Hello. I found a topic on MSDN that talks that yes, this is possible. I did a test that seems to break this statement: using System; namespace Test { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Foo f = new Foo("1"); Console.WriteLine(f.Bar); // prints 1 f.Test("2"); Console.WriteLine(f.Bar);// successfully prints 2 } } class Foo { public Foo(string b) { this.Bar = b; } public string Bar { get; private set; } public void Test(string b) { // this would be impossible for readonly field! // next error would be occur: CS0191 or CS0191 // A readonly field cannot be assigned to (except in a constructor or a variable initializer) this.Bar = b; } } } Where am I wrong?

  • AccountModel into a Repository and Interface

  • Not getting concept of null

    - by appu
    Hy Guys, Beginning with mysql. I am not able to grasp the concept of NULL. Check screen-shot (*declare_not_null, link*). In it when I specifically declared 'name' field to be NOT NULL. When i run the 'desc test' table command, the table description shows default value for name field to be NULL.Why is that so? From what I have read about NULL, it connotes a missing or information that is not applicable. So when I declare a field to be NOT NULL it implies (as per my understanding) that user must enter a value for the name field else the DB engine should generate an error i.e. record will not be entered in DB. However when i run 'insert into test value();' the DB engine enters the record in table. Check screen-shot(*empty_value, link*). FLICKR LINKS *declare_not_null* http://www.flickr.com/photos/55097319@N03/5302758813/ *empty_values* Check the second screenshot on flickr Q.2 what would be sql statemetn to drop a primary key from a table's field. If I use 'ALTER TABLE test drop key id;' it gives the following: ERROR: Incorrect table definition; there can be only one auto column and it must be defined as a key. Thanks for your help..

  • Force to call virtual base function instead of the overriden one.

    - by Roberto Sebestyen
    In the following example "Test that v1 function was called" fails. Is there a way to force call the base implementation of "RunFunction" through an instance of "class V2" ?? class V1 { public virtual string RunFunction() { return "V1"; } } class V2 : V1 { public override string RunFunction() { return "V2"; } } [Test] public void TestCall() { var v1 = (V1)new V2(); var v2 = new V2(); Assert.IsTrue(v1.RunFunction() == "V1", "Test that v1 function was called"); Assert.IsTrue(v2.RunFunction() == "V2", "Test that v2 function was called"); }

  • Passing a generic class to a java function?

    - by rodo
    Is it possible to use Generics when passing a class to a java function? I was hoping to do something like this: public static class DoStuff { public <T extends Class<List>> void doStuffToList(T className) { System.out.println(className); } public void test() { doStuffToList(List.class); // compiles doStuffToList(ArrayList.class); // compiler error (undesired behaviour) doStuffToList(Integer.class); // compiler error (desired behaviour) } } Ideally the List.class and ArrayList.class lines would work fine, but the Integer.class line would cause a compile error. I could use Class as my type instead of T extends Class<List> but then I won't catch the Integer.class case above.

  • FLEX, Actionscript: how can I invoke a CustomEvent ?

    - by Patrick
    hi, I've created a custom MouseEvent in Flex: package { import flash.events.MouseEvent; public class CustomMouseEvent extends MouseEvent { public var tags:Array = new Array(); public function CustomMouseEvent(type:String, tags:Array) { super(type, true); this.tags = tags; } } } Now I would like to understand how to pass the parameter tags from both Actionscript and MXML: From actionscript I'm trying something like this, but it doesn't work: newTag.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, dispatchEvent(new CustomMouseEvent(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,[newTag.name]))); From MXML i'm doing this and it doesn't work as well: <mx:LinkButton click="dispatchEvent(new CustomMouseEvent(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, bookmarksRepeater.currentItem.tags))" /> thanks

  • How to implement fluent interface with a base class, in C++

    - by Vincenzo
    How can I implement this fluent interface in C++: class Base { public: Base& add(int x) { return *this; } } class Derived : public Base { public: Derived& minus(int x) { return *this; } } Derived d; d.add(1).minus(2).add(3).minus(4); Current code doesn't work since Base class doesn't know anything about Derived class, etc. I would be very thankful for a hint/suggestion.

  • Static referencing error

    - by maxflow
    public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String [] args) { char[] b = {'a', 'b', 'a', 'c'}; int p = 4; deleteRepeats(b, p); } public void deleteRepeats(char[] a, int size) { int currentElement; currentElement = 0; do { for (int i = currentElement; i < size-1; i++) { if (a[currentElement] == a[i+1]) a[i+1] = ' '; } currentElement++; } while (currentElement < size-1); } } I get the error: non-static method deleteRepeats(char[],int) cannot be referenced from a static context deleteRepeats(b,p); Can someone tell me what this means? I tried removing "static" from the main method, but I get the error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main. Thanks in advance

  • How to use composition from another class to set Name?

    - by user1874549
    I have some of the code here. I am trying to use one class to reference another so I may obtain the first name of the person. I want the firstName in main class to work but IDE mentions the variable isn't found. Will replacing 'first' with 'firstName' work? Main class: public BasePlusCommissionEmployee( String first, String last, String ssn, double sales, double rate, double salary) { cE = new CommissionEmployee( first, last, ssn, sales, rate ); setBaseSalary( salary ); } public void setFirstName(String firstName) { // Trying to get this to work... cE.setFirstName(first); } SubClass: private String firstName; public void setFirstName( String first ) { firstName = first; }

  • Android TextWatcher for more than one EditText

    - by Creative MITian
    I want to implement the TextWatcher interface for more than one EditText fields. Currently I am using : text1.addTextChangedListener(this); text2.addTextChangedListener(this); then overriding the methods in my Activity: public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {} public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {} public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) { // do some operation on text of text1 field // do some operation on text of text2 field } However this is working fine but I'm looking for other ways so that I can explicitly identify that in which EditText field the SoftKeyboard is currently focused.

  • Sorting a Singly Linked List With Pointers

    - by Mark Simson
    I am trying to sort a singly linked list using bubble sort by manipulating ONLY the pointers, no keys. The following gets stuck in the for loop and loops infinitely. I don't understand why this is. Can anybody explain to me why the end of the list is not being found? Node* sort_list(Node* head) { Node * temp; Node * curr; for(bool didSwap = true; didSwap; ) { didSwap = false; for(curr = head; curr->next != NULL; curr = curr->next) { if(curr->key > curr->next->key) { temp = curr; curr = curr->next; curr->next = temp; didSwap = true; } cout << curr->next->key << endl; } } return head; } If I change the code so that the keys (data) are swapped, then the function works properly but for some reason I am not able make it work by manipulating only pointers.

  • Override existing AS3 classes

    - by purga
    For a custom derived class "Vector2" from flash.geom.Point, when trying to override the clone() method (similar to add(), subtract() methods that will return the type itself), it will always complain about incompatible overriding 'cuz the return type has been altered from "Point" to "Vector2". import flash.geom.Point; public class Vector2 extends Point { //Constructor is good public function Vector2(x:Number = 0, y:Number = 0) { super(x,y); } // Error: Incompatible overriding override public function clone():Vector2 //return type has to be "Point" { return new Vector2(this.x , this.y); } } How can we correctly reuse/override the methods provided by the super classes as supposed to create our own one (e.g. : a new clone1() method), or simply we just can't? Thanks.

  • Confusing calling method in Java

    - by vBx
    class Parent { private void method1() { System.out.println("Parent's method1()"); } public void method2() { System.out.println("Parent's method2()"); method1(); } } class Child extends Parent { public void method1() { System.out.println("Child's method1()"); } } class test { public static void main(String args[]) { Parent p = new Child(); p.method2(); } } I'm confuse why does in Parent::method2() when invoking method1() it will cal Parents method1() and not Childs method1 ? I see that this happens only when method1() is private? Can someone explain me why ? Thanks you.
