  • How to display a status message in the Gnome panel?

    - by George Edison
I have a Gnome applet I've been working on. It is written in Python and it displays the progress of something in a small label. My question is: what is the best way to display status notifications to the user? On Ubuntu, I notice that whenever I connect to a network or adjust the volume, a black box appears in the upper-right corner. Is there a way to do something like that with Python?

  • How to Add "Write a Review" / "Rate Us" Feature to My App?

    - by Ohad Regev
I wish to add some sort of a "Write a Review" or "Rate Us" feature to my app so my customers can easily rate and review my app. Best practice I can think of is to have some sort of pop-up or open a UIWebView within my app so the user is not kicked off of my app while opening the App Store application as done in: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"itms://itunes.com/apps/myAppName"]]; Does anyone knows of a way to do that?

  • Too much data for RSA block fail. What is PKCS#7?

    - by Tom Brito
Talking about javax.crypto.Cipher; I was trying to encrypt data using Cipher.getInstance("RSA/None/NoPadding", "BC"); but I got the exception: ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: too much data for RSA block Looks like is something related to the "NoPadding", so, reading about padding, looks like CBC is the best approach to use here. I found at google something about "RSA/CBC/PKCS#7", what is this "PKCS#7"? And why its not listed on sun's standard algorithm names?

  • By using ejb 3 , jsf and jboss is it possible to call a ejb method from web module?

    - by Bariscan
Even if I have different modules in my jee application including myproject-web and myproject-ejb; is it possible to call (or inject) my ejb session bean which is in the ejb module from a managed bean which is in the web module? When I asked before, I see the following declaration: @EJB private BeanInterface yourbean However, I wanna learn that whether it is possible or not, to call each other between different contexts (one of it in ejb context, the other one -managed bean- is in web context)? Any help would be appreciated Best wishes Bariscan

  • Delete all characters in a multline string upto a given pattern

    - by biffabacon
Using Python I need to delete all charaters in a multiline string up to the first occurrence of a given pattern. In Perl this can be done using regular expressions with something like: #remove all chars up to first occurrence of cat or dog or rat $pattern = 'cat|dog|rat' $pagetext =~ s/(.*)($pattern)/$2/xms; What's the best way to do it in Python?

  • joining relative urls?

    - by heffaklump
So i want to join strings with relative urls in Javascript. base url = "http://www.adress.com/more/evenmore" with relative url = "../../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/adress" relative url = "../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/more/adress" What would be the best way? I was thinking of using regexp and checking how many "../" i find, then subtracting that amount from the baseurl and adding them to what is left.

  • Java method get the inheriting type

    - by DrDro
I have several classes that extend C and I would need a method that accepts any argument of type C. But in this method I would like to know if I'm dealing with A or B. * public A extends C public B extends C public void goForIt(C c)() If I cast how can I retrieve the type in a clean way (I just read using getClass or instanceof is often not the best way). PS: Fell free to edit an explicit title. *Sorry but I can't type closing braces

  • Compiling .xsl files into .class files

    - by Alex Ciminian
I'm currently working on a Java web project (Spring) which involves heavy use of xsl transformations. The stylesheets seldom change, so they are currently cached. I was thinking of improving performance by compiling the xsl-s into class files so they wouldn't have to be interpreted on each request. I'm new to Java, so I don't really know the ecosystem that well. What's the best way of doing this (libraries, methods etc.)? Thanks, Alex

  • Sliding Response after a Point-Square Collision

    - by mars
In general terms and pseudo-code, what would be the best way to have a collision response of sliding along a wall if the wall is actually just a part of an entire square that a point is colliding into? The collision test method used is a test to see if the point lies in the square. Should I divide the square into four lines and just calculate the shortest distance to the line and then move the point back that distance? If so, then how can I determine which edge of the square the point is closest to after collision?

  • markdown to HTML with customised WMD editor

    - by spirytus
For my application I customized slightly the way WMD behaves so when user enters empty lines, these are reflected in HTML output as <br />'s. Now I came to a point when I should store it somewhere at backend and so after going thru SO posts for a while I'm not sure what is the best way to do it. I have few options and if you could point out which their pros/cons that would be much appreciated. send to server and store as markdown rather than HTML. To me obvious advantage would be keeping exactly same formatting as user originally entered. But then how can I convert it back to HTML for display to a client? It seems very troublesome to convert it on client side as even if it would be possible what would happen if JS would be disabled? If I wanted to do it on the server, then standard server side implementations of markup to HTML might be resource expensive. Would that be an issue in your opinion? Even if it wouldn't be the case then as I mentioned my WMD implementation is customised and those server side solutions wouldn't probably do the right conversion to markdown anyway and there always would be a risk that something would convert wrong. Send to server as converted HTML. Same as above.. conversion on client side would be difficult, server side same with possibility of getting it wrong. send original markdown and converted HTML and store both. No performance issues related to converting markdown to HTML on client side, nor on server side. Users would have always same markdown they originally entered and same HTML they originally saw in preview (possibly sanitized in php though). It would have to take twice that much storage space though and that is my biggest worry. I tend to lean towards 3rd solution as it seems simplest, but there is a worry of doubled storage space needed for this solution. Please bear in mind that my implementation of WMD is slightly modified and also I'm going with PHP/MySql server side implementation. So apart from 3 options I listed above, are there any other possible solutions to my problem? Did I miss anything important that would make one of the options above better then the rest? And what other pros/cons would apply to each solution I listed? Also how is it implemented on SO? I read somwhere that they using option 3, and so if its good enough for SO would be good enough for me :) but not sure if its true anyway, so how is it done? Also please forgive me, but at least for once I got to say that StackOverflow IS THE BEST DAMN RESOURCE ON THE WEB and I truly appreciate all the people trying to help others here! The site and users here are simply amazing!

  • UCA + Natural Sorting

    - by Alix Axel
    I recently learnt that PHP already supports the Unicode Collation Algorithm via the intl extension: $array = array ( 'al', 'be', 'Alpha', 'Beta', 'Álpha', 'Àlpha', 'Älpha', '????', 'img10.png', 'img12.png', 'img1.png', 'img2.png', ); if (extension_loaded('intl') === true) { collator_asort(collator_create('root'), $array); } Array ( [0] => al [2] => Alpha [4] => Álpha [5] => Àlpha [6] => Älpha [1] => be [3] => Beta [11] => img1.png [9] => img10.png [8] => img12.png [10] => img2.png [7] => ???? ) As you can see this seems to work perfectly, even with mixed case strings! The only drawback I've encountered so far is that there is no support for natural sorting and I'm wondering what would be the best way to work around that, so that I can merge the best of the two worlds. I've tried to specify the Collator::SORT_NUMERIC sort flag but the result is way messier: collator_asort(collator_create('root'), $array, Collator::SORT_NUMERIC); Array ( [8] => img12.png [7] => ???? [9] => img10.png [10] => img2.png [11] => img1.png [6] => Älpha [5] => Àlpha [1] => be [2] => Alpha [3] => Beta [4] => Álpha [0] => al ) However, if I run the same test with only the img*.png values I get the ideal output: Array ( [3] => img1.png [2] => img2.png [1] => img10.png [0] => img12.png ) Can anyone think of a way to preserve the Unicode sorting while adding natural sorting capabilities?
