  • Why toInteger :: Int -> Integer is lazy?

    - by joppux
    I have the following code: {-# NOINLINE i2i #-} i2i :: Int -> Integer i2i x = toInteger x main = print $ i2i 2 Running GHC with -ddump-simpl flag gives: [Arity 1 NoCafRefs Str: DmdType U(L)] Main.i2i = GHC.Real.toInteger1 Seems that conversion from Int to Integer is lazy. Why is it so - is there a case when I can have (toInteger _|_ ::Int) /= _|_ ?

  • finding and returning a string with a specified prefix

    - by tipu
    I am close but I am not sure what to do with the restuling match object. If I do p = re.search('[/@.* /]', str) I'll get any words that start with @ and end up with a space. This is what I want. However this returns a Match object that I dont' know what to do with. What's the most computationally efficient way of finding and returning a string which is prefixed with a @? For example, "Hi there @guy" After doing the proper calculations, I would be returned guy

  • VB.NET: question about "using" block

    - by Craig Johnston
    Consider the code: On Error Goto ErrorHandler Using sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader(OpenFile) str = sr.ReadToEnd sr.Close() End Using Exit Sub ErrorHandler: If there is an error inside the Using block how do you clean up the sr object? The sr object is not in scope in ErrHandler so sr.Close() cannot be called. Does the Using block cleanup any resources automatically even if there is an error?

  • Splitting a list in python

    - by blob8108
    Hi, I'm writing a parser in Python. I've converted an input string into a list of tokens, such as: ['(', '2', '.', 'x', '.', '(', '3', '-', '1', ')', '+', '4', ')', '/', '3', '.', 'x', '^', '2'] I want to be able to split the list into multiple lists, like the str.split('+') function. But there doesn't seem to be a way to do my_list.split('+'). Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Does my function right on python?

    - by Ali Ismayilov
    Write a function which takes a string argument, and creates and returns an Employee object containing details of the employee specified by the string. The string should be assumed to have the format 12345 25000 Consultant Bart Simpson The first three items in the line will be the payroll number, salary and job title and the rest of the line will be the name. There will be no spaces in the job title but there may be one or more spaces in the name. My function: def __str__(self): return format(self.payroll, "d") + format(self.salary, "d") + ' ' \ + self.jobtitle + self.name

  • Good practice of using list of function in Python

    - by riskio
    I am pretty new to python and I discovered by myself that I can create a list of function and call with a for loop. example: def a(args): print "A" def b(args): print "B" def c(args): print "C " + str(args) functions = [a,b,c] for i in functions: i(1) So, my question is: is there any good practice or elegant way to use list of functions and what is a good use of all this? (do have a particular name the "list of functions"?) thank you

  • file output in python giving me garbage

    - by Richard
    When I write the following code I get garbage for an output. It is just a simple program to find prime numbers. It works when the first for loops range only goes up to 1000 but once the range becomes large the program fail's to output meaningful data output = open("output.dat", 'w') for i in range(2, 10000): prime = 1 for j in range(2, i-1): if i%j == 0: prime = 0 j = i-1 if prime == 1: output.write(str(i) + " " ) output.close() print "writing finished"

  • Converting my lightweight MySQL DB wrapper into MySQLi. Pesky Problems

    - by Chaplin
    Here is the original code: http://pastebin.com/DNxtmApY. I'm not that interested in prepared statements at the moment, I just want this wrapper updating to MySQLi so once MySQL becomes depreciated I haven't got to update a billion websites. Here is my attempt at converting to MySQLi. <? $database_host = "127.0.0.1"; $database_user = "user"; $database_pass = "pass"; $database_name = "name"; $db = new database($database_host, $database_user, $database_pass, $database_name); class database { var $link, $result; function database($host, $user, $pass, $db) { $this->link = mysqli_connect($host, $user, $pass, $db) or $this->error(); mysqli_select_db($db, $this->link) or $this->error(); } function query($query) { $this->result = mysqli_query($query, $this->link) or $this->error(); $this->_query_count++; return $this->result; } function countRows($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_num_rows($result); } function fetch($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result); } function fetch_num($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result, mysqli_NUM); } function fetch_assoc($result = "") { if ( empty( $result ) ) $result = $this->result; return mysqli_fetch_array($result, mysqli_ASSOC); } function escape($str) { return mysqli_real_escape_string($str); } function error() { if ( $_GET["debug"] == 1 ){ die(mysqi_error()); } else { echo "Error in db code"; } } } function sanitize($data) { //apply stripslashes if magic_quotes_gpc is enabled if(get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $data = stripslashes($data); // a mysqli connection is required before using this function $data = trim(mysqli_real_escape_string($data)); return $data; } However it chucks all sorts of errors: Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 7 Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 7 Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/user.php on line 8 Warning: mysqli_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, object given in /home/count/Workspace/lib/classes/database.php on line 31

  • color letters in a div

    - by Growler
    I've created a palindrome checker. I want to take it one step further and show the letters being compared as it is being checked. HTML: <p id="typing"></p> <input type="text" id="textBox" onkeyup="pal(this.value);" value="" /> <div id="response"></div> <hr> <div id="palindromeRun"></div> JS: To do this, I run the recursive check... Then if it is a palindrome, I run colorLetters(), which I'm trying to highlight in green each letter as it is being checked. Right now it is just rewriting palindromeRun's HTML with the first letter. I know this is because of the way I'm resetting its HTML. I don't know how to just grab the first and last letter, change only those letters' css, then increment i and j on the next setTimeout loop. var timeout2 = null; function pal (input) { var str = input.replace(/\s/g, ''); var str2 = str.replace(/\W/, ''); if (checkPal(str2, 0, str2.length-1)) { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "green"}); $("#response").html(input + " is a palindrome"); $("#palindromeRun").html(input); colorLetters(str2, 0, str2.length-1); } else { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "red"}); $("#response").html(input + " is not a palindrome"); } if (input.length <= 0) { $("#response").html(""); $("#textBox").css({"color" : "black"}); } } function checkPal (input, i, j) { if (input.length <= 1) { return false; } if (i === j || ((j-i) == 1 && input.charAt(i) === input.charAt(j))) { return true; } else { if (input.charAt(i).toLowerCase() === input.charAt(j).toLowerCase()) { return checkPal(input, ++i, --j); } else { return false; } } } function colorLetters(myinput, i, j) { if (timeout2 == null) { timeout2 = setTimeout(function () { console.log("called"); var firstLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(i)) var secondLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(j)) $(firstLetter).css({"color" : "red"}); $(secondLetter).css({"color" : "green"}); i++; j++; timeout2=null; }, 1000); } } Secondary: If possible, I'd just like to have it colors the letters as the user is typing... I realize this will require a setTimeout on each keyup, but also am not sure how to write this.

  • My login controller doesn't work. Problem with fetching username.

    - by misterwebz
    Currently my login controller doesn't work because i can't seem to fetch the username and password. I'm currently using something like this: form_username = str(request.params.get('username')) db_user = meta.Session.query(User).filter_by(username=form_username) if db_user is None: return redirect('auth/error') No matter which username is use, db_user always returns True and thus never goes to auth/error. I used the shell to play with this and i was able establish a connection with the database, so i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong here.

  • ruby - find and replace in a string for commonly used street suffix

    - by go minimal
    The post office actually publishes a list of commonly used street suffixes in addresses: http://www.usps.com/ncsc/lookups/abbr_suffix.txt I want to take this list and make a ruby function that takes a string, takes the last word ("183 main strt".split[' '].last) and if it matches any of the commonly used street suffixes ("strt"), replace it with the official Postal Service Standard Suffix ("st"). Is there a better way to approach this than a massive str.sub.sub.sub.sub.sub?
