  • Generate vCard from AddressBook.framework

    - by Oliver
I'm utilising the AddressBook.framework in my iPhone app, and I'd like to replicate something along the lines of the share feature in Contacts.app. This basically attach's a specific contacts vCard to an email. As far as I know, there is nothing in the documentation that mentions generating a vCard. Is this a case of generating one myself? Or is there something available that can help me?

  • plist vs static array

    - by morticae
Generally, I use static arrays and dictionaries for containing lookup tables in my classes. However, with the number of classes creeping quickly into the hundreds, I'm hesitant to continue using this pattern. Even if these static collections are initialized lazily, I've essentially got a bounded memory leak going on as someone uses my app. Most of these are arrays of strings so I can convert strings into NSInteger constants that can be used with switch statements, etc. I could just recreate the array/dictionary on every call, but many of these functions are used heavily and/or in tight loops. So I'm trying to come up with a pattern that is both performant and not persistent. If I store the information in a plist, does the iphoneOS do anything intelligent about caching those when loaded? Do you have another method that might be related?

  • Releasing NSData causes exception...

    - by badmanj
Hi, Can someone please explain why the following code causes my app to bomb? NSData *myImage = UIImagePNGRepresentation(imageView.image); : [myImage release]; If I comment out the 'release' line, the app runs... but a few times calling the function containing this code and I get a crash - I guess caused by a memory leak. Even if I comment EVERYTHING else in the function out and just leave those two lines, when the release executes, the app crashes. I'm sure this must be a newbie "you don't know how to clean up your mess properly" kind of thing ;-) Cheers, Jamie.

  • Invoke method in another class

    - by Sam
I have two view controllers (viewControllerA and viewControllerB) with their own views. When the user touches a button in the view of viewControllerA, I am able to load the view of the viewControllerB. However, I don't know how to invoke a method in viewControllerB's class!

  • How can I change the animation style of a modal UIViewController?

    - by MrDatabase
I'm currently displaying a UIViewController like this: [[self navigationController] presentModalViewController:modalViewController animated:YES]; and hiding it like this: [self.navigationController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; The animation is "slide up from the bottom"... then slide back down. How can I change the animation style? Can I made it fade in/out? Cheers!

  • Getting Data For Webpages?

    - by fuzzygoat
When looking to get data from a web page whats the recommended method if the page does not provide a structured data feed? Am I right in thinking that its just a case of doing an NSURLRequest and then hacking what you need out of the responseData(NSData*)? I am not too concerned about the implementation in Xcode, I am more curious about actually collecting the data, before I start coding a "hunt & peck" through a list of data. gary

  • Call method with parameters after animation completion

    - by Jean
I want to call a method with certain parameters once an animation is done. The flow is something like this: -(void) myMethod:(int)val { [self performAnimation]; [self doSomethingElse:val]; // This should be done after animation completion } I presume the 'doSomethingElse' method needs to be called from the method defined in 'setAnimationDidStopSelector' - or is there a way to have the animation block until done? What is the best way to let the method called on 'setAnimationDidStopSelector' know about the method it needs to call and its parameter? Can this be done with selectors? Or is the only way of doing this by storing the methods and its params in class temp variables and access them when needed?

  • [iPhone] UIScrollView notifications

    - by ryyst
Hi, I'm coding an app that works much like Apple's Weather.app: There's a UIPageControl at the bottom and a UIScrollView in the middle of the screen. In my code, I implemented the - (void)scrollViewDidEndDecelerating:(UIScrollView *)scrollView method to figure out when the user did move to a new page. If they move to a new page, I load the adjacent pages' data, as to make further page-switching faster. (In one of Apple's examples, the - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)sender is used, but that causes my app to shortly hang when loading a new page, so it's not suitable.) That code works very well. I'm using scrollRectToVisible:: to programmatically scroll inside the scrollview when the user clicks the UIPageControl. The problem is that the scrollRectToVisible: doesn't post a notification to the UIScrollViewDelegate when it's done scrolling - so the code responsible for loading adjacent pages never get's called when using the UIPageControl. Is there any way to make the UIScrollView notify its delegate when it gets called by the scrollRectToVisible: method? Or will I have to use threads in order to prevent my app from freezing? Thanks! -- Ry

  • NSNumberFormatter customize?

    - by Frederick C. Lee
I wish to use NSNumberFormatter to merely attached a percent ('%') to the supplied number WITHOUT having it multiplied by 100. The canned kCFNumberFormatterPercentStyle automatically x100 which I don't want. For example, converting 5.0 to 5.0% versus 500%. Using the following: NSNumberFormatter *percentFormatter = [[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init]; [percentFormatter setNumberFormat:@"##0.00%;-##0.00%"]; But 'setNumberFormat' doesn't exist in NSNumberFomatter. I need to use this NSNumberFormatter for my Core-Plot label. How can I customize NSNumberFormat? Ric.

  • Countdown timer using NSTimer in "0:00" format

    - by Joey Pennacchio
I have been researching for days on how to do this and nobody has an answer. I am creating an app with 5 timers on the same view. I need to create a timer that counts down from "15:00" (minutes and seconds), and, another that counts down from "2:58" (minutes and seconds). The 15 minute timer should not repeat, but it should stop all other timers when it reaches "00:00." The "2:58" timer should repeat until the "15:00" or "Game Clock" reaches 0. Right now, I have scrapped almost all of my code and I'm working on the "2:58" repeating timer, or "rocketTimer." Does anyone know how to do this? Here is my code: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface FirstViewController : UIViewController { //Rocket Timer int totalSeconds; bool timerActive; NSTimer *rocketTimer; IBOutlet UILabel *rocketCount; int newTotalSeconds; int totalRocketSeconds; int minutes; int seconds; } - (IBAction)Start; @end and my .m #import "FirstViewController.h" @implementation FirstViewController - (NSString *)timeFormatted:(int)newTotalSeconds { int seconds = totalSeconds % 60; int minutes = (totalSeconds / 60) % 60; return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%i:%02d"], minutes, seconds; } -(IBAction)Start { newTotalSeconds = 178; //for 2:58 newTotalSeconds = newTotalSeconds-1; rocketCount.text = [self timeFormatted:newTotalSeconds]; if(timerActive == NO){ timerActive = YES; newTotalSeconds = 178; [rocketTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(timerLoop) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } else{ timerActive = NO; [rocketTimer invalidate]; rocketTimer = nil; } } -(void)timerLoop:(id)sender { totalSeconds = totalSeconds-1; rocketCount.text = [self timeFormatted:totalSeconds]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; [rocketTimer release]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view from its nib. timerActive = NO; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } @end

  • Calling method on category included from iPhone static library causes NSInvalidArgumentException

    - by Corey Floyd
I have created a static library to house some of my code like categories. I have a category for UIViews in "UIView-Extensions.h" named Extensions. In this category I have a method called: - (void)fadeOutWithDelay:(CGFloat)delay duration:(CGFloat)duration; Calling this method works fine on the simulator on Debug configuration. However, if try to run the app on the device I get a NSInvalidArgumentException: [UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 It seems for some reason UIView-Extensions.h is not being included in the device builds. What I have checked/tried I did try to include another category for NSString, and had the same issue. Other files, like whole classes and functions work fine. It is an issue that only happens with categories. I did a clean all targets, which did not fix the problem. I checked the static library project, the categories are included in the target's "copy headers" and "compile sources" groups. The static library is included in the main projects "link binary with library" group. Another project I have added the static library to works just fine. I deleted and re-added the static library with no luck -ObjC linker flag is set Any ideas? nm output libFJSCodeDebug.a(UIView-Extensions.o): 000004d4 t -[UIView(Extensions) changeColor:withDelay:duration:] 00000000 t -[UIView(Extensions) fadeInWithDelay:duration:] 000000dc t -[UIView(Extensions) fadeOutWithDelay:duration:] 00000abc t -[UIView(Extensions) firstResponder] 000006b0 t -[UIView(Extensions) hasSubviewOfClass:] 00000870 t -[UIView(Extensions) hasSubviewOfClass:thatContainsPoint:] 000005cc t -[UIView(Extensions) rotate:] 000002d8 t -[UIView(Extensions) shrinkToSize:withDelay:duration:] 000001b8 t -[UIView(Extensions) translateToFrame:delay:duration:] U _CGAffineTransformRotate 000004a8 t _CGPointMake U _CGRectContainsPoint U _NSLog U _OBJC_CLASS_$_UIColor U _OBJC_CLASS_$_UIView U ___CFConstantStringClassReference U ___addsf3vfp U ___divdf3vfp U ___divsf3vfp U ___extendsfdf2vfp U ___muldf3vfp U ___truncdfsf2vfp U _objc_enumerationMutation U _objc_msgSend U _objc_msgSend_stret U dyld_stub_binding_helper

  • Producer Consumer Issue with Core Data

    - by Mugunth Kumar
I've a Core Data application. In the producer thread, I pull data from a web service and store it in my object and call save. My consumer object is a table view controller that displays the same. However, the app crashes and I get NSFetchedResultsController Error: expected to find object (entity: FeedEntry; id: 0xf46f40 ; data: ) in section (null) for deletion on the console. When I debug it, everything works fine. So I understood that it's like a race issue. How is these kind of problem solved? What's the best way to design a producer-consumer app with core-data?

  • Accessing View in awakeFromNib?

    - by fuzzygoat
I have been trying to set a UIImageView background color (see below) in awakeFromNib [imageView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:0 green:0 blue:0 alpha:1.0]]; When it did not work, I realised that its probably because the view has not loaded yet and I should move the color change to viewDidLoad. Can I just verify that I have this right? gary

  • Pull down UIToolbar above UIWebView inside UIScrollView

    - by Nick VanderPyle
I'd like to display a toolbar above a UIWebView but hide the toolbar until the person "pulls it down". The same functionality can be seen in Safari on the iPhone. When the page loads, the toolbar containing the address is hidden. You must pull it down. In Safari it's possible to scroll up and eventually see the toolbar or scroll down through the page contents. I've tried placing a UIToolbar and UIWebView inside a UIScrollView but it didn't work. I've tried setting the UIScrollView to the size of the toolbar and webview combined, but that didn't work. - (void)viewDidLoad{ CGSize size = CGSizeMake(webView.frame.size.width, toolBar.frame.size.height + webView.frame.size.height); [scrollView setContentSize:size]; } How should I go about doing this?

  • Root view controllers and modal dialogs

    - by Tony
In a custom UIViewController, if I have a member UINavigationController that I initialize with self as the root view, like this: navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:self]; then presenting a modal dialog does not hide the tab bar at the bottom of the screen. The result is that if the user switches to a different tab while a modal dialog is displayed, when they pop back to the tab that was displaying a modal dialog then subsequent calls to presentModalViewController do not display a modal dialog at all, even if I call dismissModalViewControllerAnimated as a result of the tab switch. If I initialize the UINavigationController with out setting self as the root controller, navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] init]; then the tab bar is hidden as expected. I've changed things in my program so that this isn't really an issue for me anymore, but I'm not sure that I understand why this is happening. Is it considered bad practice to have a navigation controller with self as the root, if the nav controller is going to be displaying modal dialogs?

  • Zooming image in a scroll view

    - by iSharreth
    I want to zoom an image in a scroll view. I used the below code. All are working fine, but the image is not zooming. Anyone please help. I am a beginner in iPhone app development. I had connected the delegate to files manager and set max zooming to 5 I can see the image. But how can I zoom it. IBOutlet UIScrollView *scrForImg; IBOutlet UIImageView *imgForScr; (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *imagePath = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"myImage.png"]; imgForScr.image = [UIImage imageNamed:imagePath]; } -(UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *)scrollView{ return imgForScr; }

  • Who should call viewDidLoad on progammatically loaded views?

    - by Remus Rusanu
When I need to load a view programatically I do the following: MyController* myController = [[MyController alloc] init]; [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"myNib" owner:myController options:nil]; // use my controller here, eg. push it in the nav controller This works fine, but my controller's viewDidLoad is never called. So I resorted to manually calling it after the loadNibNamed call, but it doesn't seem correct. I was expecting the framework to call the viewDidLoad on my behalf. Is this the right way or I'm missing something?
