Which features do you wish were being pencilled in for future .Net releases? I'm curious to see what other language features I'm not currently aware of.

I'm wondering if it is possible using .NET to call a remote web service and in effect specify which IP the call is made on.
I'm consuming a service that limits the number of calls I can make based on IP. The service costs in the 20k range after the free limit is used up. I'm very close to enough calls but not quite there using the free service. My server has 3 IP so I could in effect triple the number of calls I could make to the remote service by changing the IP.
I am looking to see if there is an open source/free project that provides a CSS manager. I am looking for this mainly for performance tweaking and hoping there is a readymade project rather than building from scratch. Features I am looking for include:
Combines multiple .css files into a single css file
Optionally minifies the resulting .css file
Works well with .Net (a user control, custom handler, etc)
Is there a project out that that handles this?
First of all I don't know if it this question belongs here if not please tell me.
I've recently evolved from freelancer to a small .net/php development shop and we're trying to figure out what the best tools for team development will be (code repository, continuos integration server, automated testing, etc.).
Do you have some recommendations, preferible open source or low cost since we are starting out. (We already have visual studio for all the team members).
Thanks
If a long running operation is defined in a frequently called static method, is it a bottleneck for other threads in an ASP.Net application trying to call the same method?
Does that only apply to methods with the "Synchronized" attribute?
I've searched and can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Our team working on flash/Asp.net shopping cart projects
In our projects we need to get previous flash file data.
After two or three form submission the first page flash file data are missing.
How can we maintain the state of flash file data?
If any idea please help our team to do the task
My client has a busy traffic site with a big amount of pages, ASP.NET's built-in cache solutions is good, but it only stores content into the memory. Since the site has a big amount of pages, so I think disk caching would be a better idea. But after searching I didn't find a solution, any suggestions?
I would like the SO community let me know what does juniors and proficient .NET Developers should know regarding the following subjects, also some code examples or brainteasers like the ones here will help a lot.
System Types
Collection and Generics
Configuration and Installation
Monitoring and Debugging
File I/O
Globalization
I sometimes need to run gacutil.exe or installutil.exe, etc. from the command line. Is it OK to add the .NET framework directories to my system PATH? If so, which ones should I add and in which order?
I'm writing an app that will manipulate Outlook data. I want to make a backup of that data first and am hoping I could just loop through the contact/calendar items, etc and write them out to a PST file.
How can I write the contents of 1 or several Outlook folders to a PST using .Net? [vb or c# no matter]
I've got an executable file, and I would like to know which versions of the .net framework this file needs to be started.
Is there an easy way to find this information somewhere?
(So far I tried ildasm and dumpbin without any luck)
I haven't made any code or configuration changes (that I know of) to my ASP.NET web application and this morning it suddenly stopped showing the AM in my displayed times. PM still shows up, just not AM. It's hosted on Windows Server 2003. I figured somehow the OS regional settings might have been changed somehow, but that doesn't appear to be the case. How could this have happened?
I have the following asp.net custom validator:
<asp:CustomValidator runat="server"
ClientValidationFunction="valUCRRequired" ID="valUCRRequired"
ErrorMessage="Field 7-Date/Time Between is Required"
ControlToValidate="DTE_FROM" />
Notice that the ID and ClientValidationFunction have the same value. I want to do a regular expression search where they are the same. Right now, I am just searching for all CustomValidators.
I need some really good blogs to follow ASP.NET MVC, Fluent NHibernate, and Spark View Engine.
I would like to follow some good bloggers in these areas.
Do you know of an effective way to detect circular references between .Net assemblies?
The situation I would like to detect/prevent is such as:
A references B
B references D
D references A
I have an input textbox on an asp.net page and when a user inputs any tags like break tags or bold an error occurs. I currently am using the following to encode the input:
Server.HtmlEncode(mytextbox.Text)
However this only encodes characters when they aren't phrased as an html tag, like if the input is "<<<" is there a way for me to allow the user to put the tags in without it leading to a runtime error?
Thanks.
In .NET you can deny the security permission 'Assertion' for callers higher on the stack, but would this actually work since Assert() ignores permissions lower on the stack? Since it's the end of the working day I don't presently have time to experiment. Guidance appreciated!
I'm curious - does the listing of assemblies in the Add Reference dialog vary depending on the version of the .Net framework used for the selected project. If they do differ, I'd love to know where the differences lie. Thanks!
