• Mysql database not responded(crash?) when UPDATE , DROP/ALTER tables

  When I try to update a value in a column or DROP a table or ALTER a table, the database just not respond, and I have to reboot the service to get database works again. I can only SELECT data from my database(SO SAD).... Please help me, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Perl daemon script for message queue hanging for 20 seconds after each process. Why?

  I have daemon script written in Perl that checks a database tables for rows, pulls them in one by one, sends the contents via HTTP post to another service, then logs the result and repeats (only a single child). When there are rows present, the first one is posted and logged immediately, but every subsequent one is delayed for around 20 seconds. There are no sleep()'s running, and I can't find any other obvious delays. Any ideas?

  I'm calling an external web service API that returns a timezone as listed in the Olson timezones database (e.g. "America/New_York"). However some of the values the API returned are "US/Pacific", "US/Eastern" and apparently don't match any of the Olson timezones in Rails 2.3.2. Can anyone shed some light on this? • EF recovery from invalidoperationexception caused by server being down

  I had a windows service relying on EF, and it was running fine until the server went down. The problem was after the server went up again, it didn't fix itself and still threw the error: INTERNAL ERROR: Execution of the command requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is broken. Not being very proficient in EF I'm not aware of how I could recover from such a scenario, and why it occurred in the first place? Anyone had this happen before?
