• Unable to upgrade PEAR from 1.9.2 to 1.9.4

  I am on a Ubuntu 11.10 and trying to upgrade from 1.9.2 to 1.9.4, but it simply don't work. Here are the commands I am following in sequence $ sudo apt-get install php-pear Reading package lists... • GPG error occurs while using "deb file:/local-path-to-repo ..." in /etc/apt/sources.list

  I need to install packages within non-internet connection environment. My plan is to download dist structure from Internet and then add file path to /etc/apt/sources.list. So I download related structure includes ubunt/dists/precise, precise-backports, precise-proposed, precise-security, precise-updates from a ftp mirror server. • Chrome and Firefox not able to find some sites after Ubuntu's recent update?

  Loading of revision3.com in Chrome stops and status saying "waiting for static.inplay.tubemogul.com" grooveshark.com in Chrome never loads But wikipedia.org, google.com works just normal same behavior in Firefox too. I use wired DSL connection in Ubuntu 12.04. I guess this started happening after I upgraded the Chrome browser or Flash plugin few days ago from Ubuntu updates through update-manager. Thanks EDIT: Everything works normal in my WinXP. Problem is only in Ubuntu 12.04. • Git history cleanup doesn't seem to have an effect

  Hi, i ran the following 2 commands to clean up .pbxuser and .mode1v3 files from my git repository, but afterwards when i e.g. fire up gitx i can still see them in the history. git filter-branch --tree-filter "git rm -rf --cached --ignore-unmatch *.pbxuser" HEAD rm -rf .git/refs/original/ && git reflog expire --all && git gc --aggressive --prune What did i misunderstand here? The commands seem to do the job but why is gitx still viewing the diffs in its history? Regards, Erik

• Accidentally deleted /opt/local/bin without backup. Any help?

  Hi all, I'm on a Mac OS X 10.5.8 I was recently uninstalling mysql5 from /opt/local/bin. I typed: rm -rf /opt/local/bin mysql* instead of rm -rf /opt/local/bin/mysql* This deleted my entire /opt/local/bin directory which puts me in a bit of a bind. Is there any way to recover these files? If not, I have a friend that is using a similar set of programs, would it be possible to use the contents of his folder? If I end up needing to re-install everything in this folder, what is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks in advance!

• RequestFactoryEditorDriver getting edited data after flush

  Let me start with I have a solution, but I don't really think it is elegant. So, I am looking for a cleaner way to do this. I have an EntityProxy displayed in a view panel. The view panel is a RequestFactoryEditorDriver only using display mode. The user clicks on a data element and opens a popup editor to edit a data element of the EntityProxy with a few more bits of data than is displayed in the view panel. When the user saves the element I need the view panel to update the display. I ran into a problem because the RequestFactoryEditorDriver of the popup editor flow doesn't let you get to the edited data. The driver uses the passed in context and sends it to the server. The context returned out of flush only allows a Receiver even if you cast it to the type of context you stored in the editor driver in the edit() call. It doesn't appear to send and EntityProxyChanged event either, so I couldn't listen for that and update the display view. The solution I found was to change my domain object persist to return the newly saved entity. Then create the popup editor like this editor.getSaveButtonClickHandler().addClickHandler(createSaveHandler(driver, editor)); // initialize the Driver and edit the given text. driver.initialize(rf, editor); PlayerProfileCtx ctx = rf.playerProfile(); ctx.persist().using(playerProfile).with(driver.getPaths()) .to(new Receiver<PlayerProfileProxy>(){ @Override public void onSuccess(PlayerProfileProxy profile) { editor.hide(); playerProfile = profile; viewDriver.display(playerProfile); } }); driver.edit(playerProfile, ctx); editor.centerAndShow(); Then in the save handler I just fire the context I get from the flush. While this approach works, it doesn't seem right. It would seem I should subscribe to the entitychanged event in the display view and update the entity and the view from there. Also this approach saves the complete entity, not just the changed bits, which will increase bandwidth usage. What I would think should happen, is when you flush the entity it should 'optimistically' update the rf managed version of the entity and fire the entity proxy changed event. Only reverting the entity if something went wrong in the save. The actual save should only send the changed bits. In this way there isn't a need to refetch the whole entity and send that complete data over the wire twice. Is there a better solution?

  I've done my searching and can't find an answer to THIS specific issue. I have my minidlna set up and running - but it's not really done properly. First off, when I open the server on my bluray player, all of my movies are listed twice - when they are certainly not saved on my external twice. Second, when I open the server - rather than reading "Movies" "TV" "Music", etc - It just mashes all of my movies, tv, and some other folders all together with no real organization. I never had this problem when I had my Windows set up, so I know it's something configured improperly more-so than my external drive giving me gruff.   I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

Neither is wildcard defined anywhere in the files in /var/cache/bind/ I typed sudo service bind9 reload a couple of times now. Any ideas?   I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and x86 running on various servers and auto complete works on all of them bar one. The issue: apt-<tab> would show a list of options but sudo apt-<tab> would not. After fiddling with it for a few hours i've found that /etc/bash_autocomplete did not exist. on the broken server. Copying the one from a working one it now works. but still not properly. sudo apt-get ins<tab> does not show do anything. listing the files in /etc/bash_autocomplete.d/ on the working server has about 50 files, and the broken one only two or three. i dont think that i can just copy these files though as it might show commands for things that are not even installed.   I am using the standard auth.conf provided in puppet install for the puppet master which is running through passenger under Nginx. Do I still have to tweak any specifics to auth.conf for getting this to work? HTTP/1.1" 403 93 "-" "Ruby" On the agent machine facter fqdn and hostname both return a fully qualified host name [amisr1@blramisr195602 ~]$ sudo facter fqdn blramisr195602.XXXXXXX.com I then updated the agent configuration to add dns_alt_names = 10.209.47.31 cleaned all certificates on master and agent and regenerated the certificates and signed them on master using the option --allow-dns-alt-names [amisr1@bangvmpllDA02 ~]$ sudo puppet cert sign blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com Error: CSR 'blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com' contains subject alternative names (DNS:10.209.47.31, DNS:blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com), which are disallowed. Use `puppet cert --allow-dns-alt-names sign blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com` to sign this request. [amisr1@bangvmpllDA02 ~]$ sudo puppet cert --allow-dns-alt-names sign blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com Signed certificate request for blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com Removing file Puppet::SSL::CertificateRequest blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com at '/var/lib/puppet/ssl/ca/requests/blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com.pem' however, that doesn't help either; I get same errors as before. Not sure why in the logs it shows comparing access rules by IP and not hostname. Is there any Nginx configuration to change this behavior?

• Ubuntu Natty: 32-bit userland, 64-bit kernel?

  I'm trying to manually install a 64-bit kernel for 32-bit Ubuntu. I have my reasons for doing so, but they're too complicated to explain here. Prior to Natty, this worked fine. • Is it possible to set the date on a Linux machine to the year 2040?

  I need to be able to set the date on Ubuntu (8.04.4 LTS) to the year 2040 (to test something that isn't relevant to this question). Is that possible? I can run: $ sudo date -s "15 JAN 2038 18:00:00" Fri Jan 15 18:00:00 PST 2038 ...but: $ sudo date -s "15 JAN 2039 18:00:00" date: invalid date `15 JAN 2039 18:00:00' Is the limit somewhere in 2038 (or prior to Jan. 15, 2039)? Does this change with different versions of Linux?
