  • Dealing with image upload on server

    - by user1073320
    I have got a the following problem: I have got multi-step form where in one step user upload image to server and then few steps further supplies other information, when this information is invalid no data should be commited - also the image should be deleted. I was thinking about PHP session, but I've read here PHP - Store Images in SESSION data? that it is inefficient way. Every time you proceed step in the form the image is reloaded (in the session) and as somebody mentioned "You will want it to only be as big as it needs to be and you need to delete it as soon as you don't need it because large pieces of information in the session will slow down the session startup." - here i got a question: will it slow down the stratup the session of user who upload file or sessions of all users? I have to mention that I'm looking for solution that doesn't rely on operating system scripts (cron or etc) - I have no permission to run such scripts. The perfect solution for me would be: saving image on disk (for example in some folder named after session id) then after the latest step of form move this image or delete depending on form validation. If user unexpectedly destroy the session (for example closing the browser) of course the folder with image should be deleted. In nutshell I need somethig like callback to event "destroying session".

  • Cnoverting application to MVC architecture

    - by terence6
    I'm practicing writing MVC applications. I have a Mastermind game, that I would like to rewrite as MVC app. I have divided my code to parts, but instead of working game I'm getting empty Frame and an error in "public void paint( Graphics g )". Error comes from calling this method in my view with null argument. But how to overcome this ? MVC was quite simple with swing but awt and it's paint methods are much more complicated. Code of working app : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224982/ App divided to MVC : Main : public class Main { public static void main(String[] args){ Model model = new Model(); View view = new View("Mastermind", 400, 590, model); Controller controller = new Controller(model, view); view.setVisible(true); } } Controller : import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class Controller implements MouseListener, ActionListener { private Model model; • WPF DataGrid populating blank rows on TreeView's SelectedItemChanged

    - by jes9582
    When my DataGrid populates on the TreeView's SelectedItemChanged event it finds the objects and creates the rows accordingly but the rows populate with no text or are just blank. So I know it is finding my objects but it is not displaying them properly. Does anyone see where I made an error or suggest any changes or fixes? Thank you in advance! Here is the CSharp code that is setting the DataGrid's ItemsSource (I am using .dbml and LINQ with Lambda expressions): dgSystemSettings.ItemsSource = (tvSystemConfiguration.SelectedItem as SYSTEM_SETTINGS_GROUP).SYSTEM_SETTINGS_NAMEs.Join(ssdc.SYSTEM_SETTINGS_VALUEs, x => x.SSN_ID, y => y.SSV_SSN_ID, (x, y) => new { SYSTEM_SETTINGS_NAME = x, SYSTEM_SETTINGS_VALUE = y }); And here is the .xaml: <DataGrid Name="dgSystemSettings" AutoGenerateColumns="False" Height="447" Width="513" DockPanel.Dock="Right" ItemsSource="{Binding}" VerticalAlignment="Top" Margin="10,10,0,0"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn x:Name="colDisplayName" Header="Name" Binding="{Binding SSN_DISPLAY_NAME}"></DataGridTextColumn> <DataGridTextColumn x:Name="colValue" Header="Value" Binding="{Binding SSV_VALUE}"></DataGridTextColumn> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid>

  • MySQL Can Connect Remotely but not Locally

    - by A Wizard Did It
    This is a weird problem and I'm not sure what's going on. I installed MySQL on a linux box I have running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I can access mysql via SSH mysql -p and perform all my commands that way. I added a user, and I can use AddedUser to connect remotely from my machine, but not from the local machine. It makes no sense to me... SELECT host, user FROM mysql.user Yields: +-----------+------------------+ | host | user | +-----------+------------------+ | % | AddedUser | | 127.0.0.1 | root | | li241-255 | root | | localhost | debian-sys-maint | | localhost | root | +-----------+------------------+ Problem is I'm developing on this machine using Node.js, and I can't connect locally from the server using the same username. I've tried FLUSH PRIVILEGES but that seems to have no effect. I know it's not Node.js because I'm using the same code on another database and it's working in that environment. Edit This is the error node is giving me. node.js:50 throw e; // process.nextTick error, or 'error' event on first tick ^ Error: ECONNREFUSED, Connection refused at Stream._onConnect (net.js:687:18) at IOWatcher.onWritable [as callback] (net.js:284:12) Edit 2 I have the right port & server as best I can tell. My /etc/mysql/my.cnf contains this: port = 3306 socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock My MySQL object contains: { host: 'localhost', port: 3306, user: 'removed', password: 'removed', database: '', typeCast: true, flags: 260047, maxPacketSize: 16777216, charsetNumber: 192, debug: false, ending: false, connected: false, _greeting: null, _queue: [], _connection: null, _parser: null, server: 'ExternalIpAddress' } Possibly useful? netstat -ln | grep mysql unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 1016418 /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

  • Undefined javascript function?

    - by user74283
    Working on a google maps project and stuck on what seems to be a minor issue. When i call displayMarkers function firebug returns: ReferenceError: displayMarkers is not defined [Break On This Error] displayMarkers(1); <script type="text/javascript"> function initialize() { var center = new google.maps.LatLng(25.7889689, -80.2264393); var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map'), { zoom: 10, center: center, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }); //var data = [[25.924292, -80.124314], [26.140795, -80.3204049], [25.7662857, -80.194692]] var data = {"crs": {"type": "link", "properties": {"href": "http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/4326/", "type": "proj4"}}, "type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [{"geometry": {"type": "Point", "coordinates": [25.924292, -80.124314]}, "type": "Feature", "properties": {"industry": [2], "description": "hosp", "title": "shaytac hosp2"}, "id": 35}, {"geometry": {"type": "Point", "coordinates": [26.140795, -80.3204049]}, "type": "Feature", "properties": {"industry": [1, 2], "description": "retail", "title": "shaytac retail"}, "id": 48}, {"geometry": {"type": "Point", "coordinates": [25.7662857, -80.194692]}, "type": "Feature", "properties": {"industry": [2], "description": "hosp2", "title": "shaytac hosp3"}, "id": 36}]} var markers = []; for (var i = 0; i < data.features.length; i++) { var latLng = new google.maps.LatLng(data.features[i].geometry.coordinates[0], data.features[i].geometry.coordinates[1]); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: latLng, title: console.log(data.features[i].properties.industry[0]), map: map }); marker.category = data.features[i].properties.industry[0]; marker.setVisible(true); markers.push(marker); } function displayMarkers(category) { var i; for (i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { if (markers[i].category === category) { markers[i].setVisible(true); } else { markers[i].setVisible(false); } } } } google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize); </script> <div id="map-container"> <div id="map"></div> </div> <input type="button" value="Retail" onclick="displayMarkers(1);">

  • Make a form not focusable in C#

    - by Jandex
    Hi! I'm wanting to write a virtual keyboard, like windows onscreen keyboard for touchscreen pcs. But I'm having problem with my virtual keyboard stealing the focus from the application being used. The windows onscreen keyboard mantains the focus on the current application even when the user clicks on it. Is there a way to do the same with windows forms in C#? The only thing I can do for now is to send a keyboard event to an especific application, like notepad in the following code. If I could make the form not focusable, I could get the current focused window with GetForegroundWindow. [DllImport("USER32.DLL", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode)] public static extern IntPtr FindWindow(string lpClassName,string lpWindowName); [DllImport("USER32.DLL")] public static extern bool SetForegroundWindow(IntPtr hWnd); private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { IntPtr calculatorHandle = FindWindow("notepad", null); SetForegroundWindow(calculatorHandle); SendKeys.SendWait("111"); } Is there a way this can be done? Any suggestions of a better way to have the form sending keyboard events to the application being used? Thanks!!

  • How to call a method from another class that's been instantiated within the current class

    - by Pavan
    my screen has a few views like such __________________ | _____ | | | | | //viewX is a video screen | | | | | viewX | vY | | //viewY is a custom uiview i created. | |____| | //it contains a method which i would like to call that toggles |_________________| //the hidden property of this view. and when it hides, a little | | //button is replaced no the top right corner on top of viewX | viewZ | //the video layer | | |_________________| //viewZ is a view containing many square views - thumbnails. my question is, i dont know how to register for touch events so that it recognises any touch event on no matter which view the user touches the screen.. atm im handling the touch events for each view inside it. so all works well... however what im trying to do is that when the user taps anywhere else on the screen but on viewY, viewY should dissapear by calling that method in the viewY class. this viewY class is instantiated and has no xib file attached to it. the uiview is created progammatically in the viewY class. this whole class for viewY behviour is instantiated in viewX - the video view. my boss says add delegates.. although i have now clue how to do that... any help? is there anyway i can just make it really simple and be able to say REMOVE VIEW no matter which class im calling from? Also ive seen other people achieve this by using these funky arrows - ... <- etc.. although im not sure if thats what i need or how to implement such a thing. ah i think ive made my question quite complicated but i really mean it to be a simple one, and know it can be done in an easy way!

  • force refresh of part of page in browser

    - by Jeremy
    I have the following html: <ul class="scr"> <li class="scr"> <input type="checkbox" class="chkscr"/> <h3>Item Name</h3> <div class="scr">Contents</div> </li> .... </ul> And the following jQuery: //Set initial state of each scr section $('.chkscr input, input.chkscr').each(function() { chkSCR_Click($(this)); }); //Setup click event $('.chkscr input, input.chkscr').click(function() { chkSCR_Click($(this)); }); //Toggle corresponding scr section for the checkbox function chkSCR_Click(ctl) { if (ctl.attr('checked')) { ctl.parents('li.scr').find('div.scr').stop().show(); } else { ctl.parents('li.scr').find('div.scr').stop().hide(); } } My issue is that when I toggle the last li element to display, the h3 element contents disapear, until I click somewhere else on the page, or scroll the page up and down to cause the browse to repaint that portion of the window. I don't get this behavior in Opera for example, and even in IE the behavior only happens on the last li element, so I'm pretty sure it's an IE quirk and not my code. Is there any workaround I can do through jquery/javascript to force it to repaint the h3 element?

  • Can I get the IE debugger to break into long-running javascript

    - by Brian Deacon
    I have a page that has a byzantine amount of javascript running. In IE only, and only version 8, I get a long-script warning that I can reliably reproduce. I suspect it is event handlers triggering themselves in an infinite loop. The Developer Tools are limping horribly under the weight of the script running, but I do seem to be able to get the log to tell me what line of script it was executing when I aborted, but it is inevitably some of the deep plumbing of the ExtJS code we use, and I can't tell where it is in my stack of code. A way of seeing the call stack would work, but preferably I'd like to be able to just break into the debugger when I get the long script warning so I can just step through the stack. There is a similar question posted, but the answers given were for a not-the-right-tool, or the not terribly helpful advice to eliminate half my code at a time on a binary hunt for the infinite loop. If my code were simple enough that I could do that, it probably wouldn't have gotten the infinite loop in the first place. If I could reproduce the problem in firebug, I'd probably be a lot happier too.

  • How to avoid mouse move on Touch

    - by VirtualBlackFox
    I have a WPF application that is capable of being used both with a mouse and using Touch. I disable all windows "enhancements" to just have touch events : Stylus.IsPressAndHoldEnabled="False" Stylus.IsTapFeedbackEnabled="False" Stylus.IsTouchFeedbackEnabled="False" Stylus.IsFlicksEnabled="False" The result is that a click behave like I want except on two points : The small "touch" cursor (little white star) appears where clicked an when dragging. Completely useless as the user finger is already at this location no feedback is required (Except my element potentially changing color if actionable). Elements stay in the "Hover" state after the movement / Click ends. Both are the consequences of the fact that while windows transmit correctly touch events, he still move the mouse to the last main-touch-event. I don't want windows to move the mouse at all when I use touch inside my application. Is there a way to completely avoid that? Notes: Handling touch events change nothing to this. Using SetCursorPos to move the mouse away make the cursor blink and isn't really user-friendly. Disabling the touch panel to act as an input device completely disable all events (And I also prefer an application-local solution, not system wide). I don't care if the solution involve COM/PInvoke or is provided in C/C++ i'll translate. If it is necessary to patch/hook some windows dlls so be it, the software will run on a dedicated device anyway. I'm investigating the surface SDK but I doubt that it'll show any solution. As a surface is a pure-touch device there is no risk of bad interaction with the mouse.

  • DOMAIN REDIRECT PROBLEM WITH JQUERY / JAVASCRIPT

    - by GiovanniDema
    Hi guys, first time here. I got a strange problem. I have a fullscreen image scaler javascript (as GOTOCHINA website) that works very well on my website. Then, I purchased a domain redirect pointing on my website and when redirecting suddenly internet explorer 7 and internet explorer 8 give me this error Messagge: is not a valid argument. Line: 34 Char: 17 URI: http://*****/scaler.js The script is var db=document.body; var imag=document.getElementById('wallpaper'); var dbsize={}; var imgsrc=imag.src; var keyStop=function(e){ var e=window.event||e||{}; var tag=e.target.tagName.toLowerCase(); if(tag!='textarea'&&!(tag=='input'&&(e.target.type=='text'||e.target.type=='password'))){ if(e.keyCode==32||e.keyCode==39||e.keyCode==40){ if(e.preventDefault)e.preventDefault(); else e.returnValue=false; } } } if(this.addEventListener)window.addEventListener('keydown',keyStop,false); else window.attachEvent('onkeydown',keyStop); setInterval(function(){ window.scrollTo(0,0); if(imag.complete){ if(db.clientWidth!=dbsize.w||db.clientHeight!=dbsize.h||imag.src!=imgsrc){ imgsrc=imag.src; var dbsizew=db.clientWidth; var dbsizeh=db.clientHeight; var newwidth=Math.round(dbsizeh*(imag.offsetWidth/imag.offsetHeight)); var nextvar=dbsizewnewwidth?dbsizew:newwidth; imag.style.width=nextvar+'px'; } } },300); In other words when i open the official website everything's working correctly. When i open redirect domain pointing on official website... the previous error appears. The line is exactly this - imag.style.width=nextvar+'px'; Thanks in advance Giovanni

  • NSNotification vs. Delegate Protocols?

    - by jr
    I have an iPhone application which basically is getting information from an API (in XML, but maybe JSON eventually). The result objects are typically displayed in view controllers (tables mainly). Here is the architecture right now. I have NSOperation classes which fetch the different objects from the remote server. Each of these NSOperation classes, will take a custom delegate method which will fire back the resulting objects as they are parsed, and then finally a method when no more results are available. So, the protocol for the delegates will be something like: (void) ObjectTypeResult:(ObjectType *)result; (void) ObjectTypeNoMoreResults; I think the solution works well, but I do end up with a bunch of delegate protocols around and then my view controllers have to implement all these delegate methods. I don't think its that bad, but I'm always on the lookout for a better design. So, I'm thinking about using NSNotifications to remove the use of the delegates. I could include the object in the userInfo part of the notification and just post objects as received, and then a final event when no more are available. Then I could just have one method in each view controller to receive all the data, even when using multiple objects in one controller.† So, can someone share with me some pros/cons of each approach. Should I consider refactoring my code to use Events rather then the delegates? Is one better then the other in certain situations? In my scenario I'm really not looking to receive notifications in multiple places, so maybe the protocol based delegates are the way to go. Thanks!

  • jQuery: Stopping a periodic ajax call?

    - by Legend
    I am writing a small jQuery plugin to update a set of Divs with content obtained using Ajax calls. Initially, let's assume we have 4 divs. I am doing something like this: (function($) { .... .... //main function $.fn.jDIV = { init: function() { ... ... for(var i = 0; i < numDivs; i++) { this.query(i); } this.handlers(); }, query: function(divNum) { //Makes the relevant ajax call }, handlers: function() { for(var i = 0; i < numDivs; i++) { setInterval("$.fn.jDIV.query(" + i + ")", 5000); } } }; })(jQuery); I would like to be able to enable and disable a particular ajax query. I was thinking of adding a "start" and "stop" instead of the "handlers" function and subsequently storing the setInterval handler like this: start: function(divNum) { divs[divNum] = setInterval("$.fn.jDIV.query(" + i + ")", 5000); }, stop: function(divNum) { clearInterval(divs[divNum]); } I did not use jQuery to setup and destroy the event handlers. Is there a better approach (perhaps using more of jQuery) to achieve this?

  • Design pattern to integrate Rails with a Comet server

    - by empire29
    I have a Ruby on Rails (2.3.5) application and an APE (Ajax Push Engine) server. When records are created within the Rails application, i need to push the new record out on applicable channels to the APE server. Records can be created in the rails app by the traditional path through the controller's create action, or it can be created by several event machines that are constantly monitoring various inputstream and creating records when they see data that meets a certain criteria. It seems to me that the best/right place to put the code that pushes the data out to the APE server (which in turn pushes it out to the clients) is in the Model's after_create hook (since not all record creations will flow through the controller's create action). The final caveat is I want to push a piece of formatted HTML out to the APE server (rather than a JSON representation of the data). The reason I want to do this is 1) I already have logic to produce the desired layout in existing partials 2) I don't want to create a javascript implementation of the partials (javascript that takes a JSON object and creates all the HTML around it for presentation). This would quickly become a maintenance nightmare. The problem with this is it would require "rendering" partials from within the Model (which im having trouble doing anyhow because they don't seem to have access to Helpers when they're rendered in this manner). Anyhow - Just wondering what the right way to go about organizing all of this is. Thanks

  • Usage of autorelease pools for fetch method

    - by Matthias
    Hi, I'm a little bit confused regarding the autorelease pools when programming for the iPhone. I've read a lot and the oppionions seem to me from "Do-NOT-use" to "No problem to use". My specific problem is, I would like to have a class which encapsulates the SQLite3 Access, so I have for example the following method: -(User*)fetchUserWithId:(NSInteger)userId Now, within this method a SQL query is done and a new user object is created with the data from the database and then returned. Within this DB Access class I don't need this object anymore, so I can do a release, but since the calling method needs it, I would do an autorelease, wouldn't I? So, is it okay to use autorelease here oder would it gain too much memory, if this method is called quite frequently? Some websites say, that the autorelease pool is released first at the end of the application, some say, at every event (e.g. user touches something). If I should not use autorelease, how can I make sure, that the object is released correctly? Can I do a release in the fetch method and hope, that the object is still there until the calling method can do a retain? Thanks for your help! Regards Matthias

Edited Code: <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#emailch").change(function() { var usr = $("#emailch").val(); if(usr.length >= 3) { $("#status").html('<img src="images/loader.gif" align="absmiddle">&nbsp;Checking availability...'); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "includes/check.php", data: "username="+ usr, success: function(msg){ $("#status").ajaxComplete(function(event, request, settings){ if(msg == 'OK') { $("#username").removeClass('object_error'); // if necessary $("#username").addClass("object_ok"); $(this).html('&nbsp;<img src="images/tick.gif" align="absmiddle">'); } else { $("#username").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary $("#username").addClass("object_error"); $(this).html(msg); } }); } }); } else { $("#status").html('<font color="red">The username should have at least <strong>3</strong> characters.</font>'); $("#username").removeClass('object_ok'); // if necessary $("#username").addClass("object_error"); } }); }); </SCRIPT> What I want is that, the form should not be posted if the user name is not available. I have tried by using return false; in IF CONDITION but it fails. Please suggest any alternate method. Any help will be appreciated.

  • MVVM and avoiding Monolithic God object

    - by bufferz
    I am in the completion stage of a large project that has several large components: image acquisition, image processing, data storage, factory I/O (automation project) and several others. Each of these components is reasonably independent, but for the project to run as a whole I need at least one instance of each component. Each component also has a ViewModel and View (WPF) for monitoring status and changing things. My question is the safest, most efficient, and most maintainable method of instantiating all of these objects, subscribing one class to an Event in another, and having a common ViewModel and View for all of this. Would it best if I have a class called God that has a private instance of all of these objects? I've done this in the past and regretted it. Or would it be better if God relied on Singleton instances of these objects to get the ball rolling. Alternatively, should Program.cs (or wherever Main(...) is) instantiate all of these components, and pass them to God as parameters and then let Him (snicker) and His ViewModel deal with the particulars of running this projects. Any other suggestions I would love to hear. Thank you!

  • libcurl (c api) READFUNCTION for http PUT blocking forever

    - by Duane
    I am using libcurl for a RESTful library. I am having two problems with a PUT message, I am just trying to send a small content like "hello" via put. My READFUNCTION for PUT's blocks for a very large amount of time (minutes) when I follow the manual at curl.haxx.se and return a 0 indicating I have finished the content. (on os X) When I return something 0 this succeeds much faster (< 1 sec) When I run this on my linux machine (ubuntu 10.4) this blocking event appears to NEVER return when I return 0, if I change the behavior to return the size written libcurl appends all the data in the http body sending way more data and it fails with a "too much data" message from the server. my readfunction is below, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using libcurl 7.20.1 typedef struct{ void *data; int body_size; int bytes_remaining; int bytes_written; } postdata; size_t readfunc(void *ptr, size_t size, size_t nmemb, void *stream) { if(stream) { postdata ud = (postdata)stream; if(ud->bytes_remaining) { if(ud->body_size > size*nmemb) { memcpy(ptr, ud->data+ud->bytes_written, size*nmemb); ud->bytes_written+=size+nmemb; ud->bytes_remaining = ud->body_size-size*nmemb; return size*nmemb; } else { memcpy(ptr, ud->data+ud->bytes_written, ud->bytes_remaining); ud->bytes_remaining=0; return 0; } }

  • How to check if there is an active session in a JSF page?

    - by Roberto de Santis
    Hi, there is a way to check if there is an active session directly in jsf page? I have try this but it doesn't work: <p:ajaxStatus onerror="#{session == null ? 'idleDialog.show();' : null}" thank you in advance @Update I have see that onerror isn't fired even if viewExpiredException occurr. @Update 1 Ok i have implemented something that may work: <h:form> <p:idleMonitor timeout="10000" idleListener="#{idleMonitorController.idleListener}" onidle="sessionPoll.stop();idleDialog.show();"/> </h:form> <p:dialog header="Sessione scaduta per inattività" widgetVar="idleDialog" modal="true" width="400"> <h:outputText value="Sessione scaduta" /> <h:button value="Ripristina Sessione" onclick="idleDialog.hide();sessionPoll.start();" /> </p:dialog> <h:form prependId="false"> <p:poll widgetVar="sessionPoll" interval="1"/> </h:form> and this is the listner: public void idleListener(IdleEvent event) { System.out.println("aaaa"); final HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest(); request.getSession(false).invalidate(); } now the only problem is that the session.invalidate doesn't work

  • webpart context.session is null

    - by tbischel
    I've been using the session array to store a state variable for my webpart... so I have a property like this: public INode RootNode { get { return this.Context.Session["RootNode"] as INode; } set { this.Context.Session["RootNode"] = value as object; } } This usually works fine. I've discovered that sometimes, the context.session variable will be null. I'd like to know what are the conditions that cause the session to be null in the first place, and whats the best way to persist my object when this happens? Can I just assign a new HttpSessionState object to the context, or does that screw things up? Edit: Ok, so its not just the session that is null... the whole context is screwed up. When the webpart enters the init, the context is fine... but when it reaches the dropbox selectedindexchange postback event (the dropbox contains node id's to use to set the rootnode variable), the context contains mostly null properties. also, it only seems to happen when certain id's are selected. This looks more like some kind of weird bug on my end than a problem with my understanding of the session.

  • Javascript place in header

    - by JibW
    I am not clear why its not working the javascript code when I add it to the header section as follows. We can place a javascript code within the body as follows <html> <head> <title> Simple Test </title> </head> <body> <div id="mydiv"> This is the div content </div> <script type="text/javascript" > document.getElementById("mydiv").innerHTML=Date(); </script> </body> </html> But when I place the same JavaScript code in the header section it doesn't work. <html> <head> <title> Simple Test </title> <script type="text/javascript" > document.getElementById("mydiv").innerHTML=Date(); </script> </head> Can Someone please explain the issue. • How to determine loading status of images not attached to the DOM

    - by Rookwood
    I am working on a bit of javascript to plot data on a <canvas. The data points are marked by one of several different (small) image files. I am attempting to have the plot method wait until all the images are loaded. My best attempt thus far is such: var icon = { left : { air : new Image(), bone : new Image(), }, right : { air: new Image(), bone : new Image(), }, }; icon.left.air.src = option.imgPath + 'left.air.png'; icon.right.air.src = option.imgPath + 'right.air.png'; icon.left.bone.src = option.imgPath + 'left.bone.png'; icon.right.bone.src = option.imgPath + 'right.bone.png'; function main() { Canvas.draw(); // Make sure our image icons are loaded before we try to plot $(icon.left.air).load(function() { $(icon.right.air).load(function() { $(icon.left.bone).load(function() { $(icon.right.bone).load(function() { Data.plot(); }); }); }); }); } This works as expected most of the time. On occasion, it will fail and no data will be plotted. Inserting several console.log() statements shows that the script will silently stop working through the series of .load() statements, though code that comes after will be executed. My questions are as follows: Am I approaching this the right way? Is there a way to attach an event to my icon object that will fire once all of the images inside are loaded? This is a jquery plugin, so obviously jquery-based solutions are just as acceptable as vanilla javascript.

  • Slider with buttons. How to improve?

    - by Kalinin
    I need to make slider. I have content (which should shift horizontally) and two buttons - "right" and "left". If you press the button and hold it, the content starts to move (in the appropriate direction). If you not hold the button, then the movement stops. This behavior is copies the behavior of usual window scrollbar. I wrote code: var animateTime = 1, offsetStep = 5; //event handling for buttons "left", "right" $('.bttR, .bttL') .mousedown(function() { scrollContent.data('loop', true).loopingAnimation($(this)); }) .bind("mouseup mouseout", function(){ scrollContent.data('loop', false); }); $.fn.loopingAnimation = function(el){ if(this.data('loop') == true){ var leftOffsetStr; leftOffsetInt = parseInt(this.css('marginLeft').slice(0, -2)); if(el.attr('class') == 'bttR') leftOffsetStr = (leftOffsetInt - offsetStep).toString() + 'px'; else if(el.attr('class') == 'bttL') leftOffsetStr = (leftOffsetInt + offsetStep).toString() + 'px'; this.animate({marginLeft: leftOffsetStr}, animateTime, function(){ $(this).loopingAnimation(el); }) } return this; } But it does have a few things that I do not like: Always call the function animation (loopingAnimation) - I think that this is an extra load (not good). When moving content he "twitches and trembling" - (it's not pretty). How can I solve this problem more elegantly and without the drawbacks of my code?

  • JQuery: how to use "delegate" instead of "live"?

    - by JacobD
    I've read countless articles how using the JQuery delegate is much more efficient than using the "live" event. As such, I'm having trouble converting my existing Live code to using Delegate. $("#tabs li:eq(0)").live('click',function(){ //...code }); $('#A > div.listing, #B > div.listing, #C > div.listing').live('mouseover',function(){ // ...code }); When I replace the previous code with what I assume is more efficient delegate code, my page doesn't load. $("#tabs li:eq(0)").delegate('click',function(){ //...code }); $('#A > div.listing, #B > div.listing, #C > div.listing').delegate('mouseover',function(){ // ...code }); Any idea why my delegate code doesn't work? Also, any suggestions on how to make this more efficient? UPDATE: The think part of the problem is that, both "#tabs" and "#A, #B, #C" are't present on the web page at page load. Those attributes are dynamically inserted onto the page with an AJAX call. As such, does that mean I have to use live over delegate?
