• FTP permissions problem

  I have vsftpd installed on ubuntu. I added a new created a new user and set the users home path to /var/www so I can ftp with that user directly to that location. And that all works, I can now FTP with the user I created directly to that location. However I whenever I ftp, I have no permissions to change anything. How can I change that? Thanks!!

  I am running ubuntu on various computers on a home wireless network. Some are on 9.04x64, some 10.04x64 and one 9.04x32. Running scp with a large file starts out at 2.1 mbps and drops down to about 200k, stalling and dropping until the transfer is complete. I've noticed this when I have a secure shell open on any of these servers as well. I have tried this with 2 different routers, both brand new, different brands.

  I have recently noticed wmpnetwk.exe using a more than usual amount of processor cycles. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium on a Netbook. I'm guessing it's a feature of Windows Media player that recently got turned on, possibly because of a Windows update or accidental key combination. I don't usually use Media player that often. Does anyone know if it is a feature that has recently turned on, and if so, how do I turn it off ?

• Start Anew with my USB stick

  This story starts with me taking my USB stick to work and unplugging it by accident in the middle of a file transfer. The USB stopped working completely, now I have Linux Ubuntu on my Laptop at home So I tried messing around with Gparted and Fdisk and all it did Was making my USB stick be partition less and 8 MB instead of 2GB So instead of creating more havoc, I ask kindly for help. I tried going to fdisk /dev/sdb and inside there were no partitions, added a new one but that didn't really do anything, /dev/sdb1 was none-existent..

When I try to connect to it I get a connection error like: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://nax.tolstoy.eu' I know is not my home connection because i have another svn server wokring. Anyway, the server is listening the port. tcp 0 0 :::3690 :::* LISTEN 6023/svnserve And I can't acces via telnet too. (Server doesn't have iptables, as much I can see) Any idea?

• Chrome keeps crashing a short while after startup

  Hi, whenever I turn on Chrome, it crashes after a very short while (less than a minute). It started happening about a week ago for no apparent reason. I didn't install any new software, update or uninstall anything (as far as I remember), it just crashes. It doesn't matter wether I even open any page or not, Chrome just dies, period. Doesn't anybody have an idea why might that be? I'm running on Windows Vista Home Basic.

• How can I access my external hard drive wirelessly from my laptop?

  My desktop crashed so I am migrated over to a laptop. I have wireless in my home so i am trying to be able to use to laptop in any room without any other connections (wireless printer, wireless mouse, etc) The one issue i have is that my desktop had 2 external hard drives (USB) connected to them and i am trying to figure out the best way to treat these as external drives without having to plug them into the laptop directly.   I have a home server I use for various things, and have recently switched over to using VMs, however I can't seem to find a decent VM solution that does what I want. Xen Connection keeps dropping every few minutes (So this means it's practically unusable), but with ParaVirtOps faster than VMWare ESXi, and I can use software RAID VMWare ESXi Works fine, no connection drops, but I have to run it from USB stick, modify some archive file and I can't use software RAID -- So are there any other solutions out there that do allow me to use software raid, that have a stable network connection, and that also offer paravirtualization
