  • Stupid newbie c++ two-dimensional array problem.

    - by paulson scott
    I've no idea if this is too newbie or generic for stackoverlflow. Apologies if that's the case, I don't intend to waste time. I've just started working through C++ Primer Plus and I've hit a little stump. This is probably super laughable but: for (int year = 0; year < YEARS; year++) { cout << "Year " << year + 1 << ":"; for (int month = 0; month < MONTHS; month++) { absoluteTotal = (yearlyTotal[year][year] += sales[year][month]); } cout << yearlyTotal[year][year] << endl; } cout << "The total number of books sold over a period of " << YEARS << " years is: " << absoluteTotal << endl; I wish to display the total of all 3 years. The rest of the code works fine: input is fine, individual yearly output is fine but I just can't get 3 years added together for one final total. I did have the total working at one point but I didn't have the individual totals working. I messed with it and reversed the situation. I've been messing with it for God knows how long. Any idea guys? Sorry if this isn't the place!

  • PHP Regex: How to match anything except a pattern between two tags

    - by Ryan
    Hello, I am attempting to match a string which is composed of HTML. Basically it is an image gallery so there is a lot of similarity in the string. There are a lot of <dl> tags in the string, but I am looking to match the last <dl>(.?)+</dl> combo that comes before a </div>. The way I've devised to do this is to make sure that there aren't any <dl's inside the <dl></dl> combo I'm matching. I don't care what else is there, including other tags and line breaks. I decided I had to do it with regular expressions because I can't predict how long this substring will be or anything that's inside it. Here is my current regex that only returns me an array with two NULL indicies: preg_match_all('/<dl((?!<dl).)+<\/dl>(?=<\/div>)/', $foo, $bar) As you can see I use negative lookahead to try and see if there is another <dl> within this one. I've also tried negative lookbehind here with the same results. I've also tried using +? instead of just + to no avail. Keep in mind that there's no pattern <dl><dl></dl> or anything, but that my regex is either matching the first <dl> and the last </dl> or nothing at all. Now I realize . won't match line breaks but I've tried anything I could imagine there and it still either provides me with the NULL indicies or nearly the whole string (from the very first occurance of <dl to </dl></div>, which includes several other occurances of <dl>, exactly what I didn't want). I honestly don't know what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks for your help! I've spent over an hour just trying to straighten out this one problem and it's about driven me to pulling my hair out.

  • How does my ASP.NET app get the SMTP settings automatically from web.config?

    - by Ryan
    I noticed that we always just are like: SmtpClient mSmtpClient = new SmtpClient(); // Send the mail message mSmtpClient.Send(mMailMessage); And the only place the credentials are set are in web.config: <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp> <network host="xxx.xx.xxx.229" userName="xxxxxxxx" password="xxxxxxxx"/> </smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> So my question is, how does it automagically get them out?

  • How to change the default Help browser for VS2010?

    - by Scott Bilas
    Visual Studio 2010 changed the help system to run a little daemon and launch the system default web browser to view it. I'm using Firefox for my system browser but would like to use Chrome for VS help. Is there an option to change the Help browser that I'm not seeing in Tools|Options? If not, is there a workaround or registry setting to do this? As a backup I've been using H3Viewer but I'd like to be able to get context-sensitive F1 help from within the VS IDE.

  • Why is my platform variable defined as 'BNB'?

    - by Scott Langham
    Hi, Something, maybe the windows sdk or visual studio installer, has defined the Platform environment variable and given it the value BNB. What does BNB mean, and why is Platform set to BNB? Thanks. I've seen this, but it doesn't answer my question: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msbuild/thread/1d229d75-aa89-42bf-809b-ef98f42072bb

  • How to Add a Dynamic Layer to an Esri Map Control Programatically in WPF?

    - by Scott
    Just as the question asks. I have an Esri map control and want to add a Rastor image to the control in WPF and don't know how to do it. I see that I can add layers to the Map control, but is there a way to add a Raster image to a map control? I did find this code to turn the raster image into a Dynamic layer, but Im still lost on how to add a dynamic layer to the control it self. http://resources.esri.com/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/index.cfm?fa=codeGalleryDetails&scriptID=16723 Thank you!

  • Formatting the output of a custom tool so I can double click an error in Visual Studio and the file opens

    - by Ben Scott
    I've written a command line tool that preprocesses a number of files then compiles them using CodeDom. The tool writes a copyright notice and some progress text to the standard output, then writes any errors from the compilation step using the following format: foreach (var err in results.Errors) { // err is CompilerError var filename = "Path\To\input_file.xprt"; Console.WriteLine(string.Format( "{0} ({1},{2}): {3}{4} ({5})", filename, err.Line, err.Column, err.IsWarning ? "" : "ERROR: ", err.ErrorText, err.ErrorNumber)); } It then writes the number of errors, like "14 errors". This is an example of how the error appears in the console: Path\To\input_file.xrpt (73,28): ERROR: An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'Some.Object.get' (CS0120) When I run this as a custom tool in VS2008 (by calling it in the post-build event command line of one of my project's assemblies), the errors appear nicely formatted in the Error List, with the correct text in each column. When I roll over the filename the fully qualified path pops up. The line and column are different to the source file because of the preprocessing which is fine. The only thing that stands out is that the Project given in the list is the one that has the post-build event. The problem is that when I double click an error, nothing happens. I would have expected the file to open in the editor. I'm vaugely aware of the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop namespace but I think it should be possible just by writing to the standard output.

  • Jquery: How can I Get/Set html of a String Variable by using Jquery Selectors ?

    - by ryan.dingy
    Hi all. Firstly, sorry for my English (I'm from China). By reading this article(http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2421719/how-to-apply-jquery-element-selection-to-a-string-variable), I can successfully get Elements from a String which stores HTML text. For example: var htmlstr = "<div><ul><li>some text 1</li></ul></div><div><ul id=list><li>some text 2</li></ul></div>"; var s = $('ul#list', $(htmlstr)).html(); s will be <li>some text 2</li>. It's what I want. But the question is, if I want to add another LI element to this string (htmlstr) how can I do? I set s = new html string but htmlstr doesn't change. Thanks

  • Can I customize the indentation of ternary operators in emacs' cperl-mode?

    - by Ryan Thompson
    In emacs cperl-mode, ternary operators are not treated specially. If you break them over multiple lines, cperl-mode simply indents each line the same way it indents any continued statement, like this: $result = ($foo == $bar) ? 'result1' : ($foo == $baz) ? 'result2' : ($foo == $qux) ? 'result3' : ($foo == $quux) ? 'result4' : fail_result; This is not very readable. Is there some way that I can convince cperl-mode indent like this? $result = ($foo == $bar) ? 'result1' : ($foo == $baz) ? 'result2' : ($foo == $qux) ? 'result3' : ($foo == $quux) ? 'result4' : fail_result; By the way, code example from this question.

  • thumbs.db messing up my upload routine

    - by Scott B
    I'm getting the following error while uploading a zip archive. Warning: ZipArchive::extractTo(C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite/wp-content/themes/mytheme//styles\mytheme/Thumbs.db) [ziparchive.extractto]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\xampplite\htdocs\testsite\wp-content\themes\mythem\uploader.php on line 17 The thing I can't quite figure is that I don't see a thumbs.db file in either the zip archive or the destination folder that was created (the upload still processes, I just get these errors). The function is below, line 17 is commented... function openZip($file_to_open) { global $target; $zip = new ZipArchive(); $x = $zip->open($file_to_open); if($x === true) { $zip->extractTo($target); //this is line 17 $zip->close(); unlink($file_to_open); } else { die("There was a problem. Please try again!"); } }

  • jQuer image hover animate

    - by Ryan Max
    Hello. I have the following jQuery script that makes an orange transparent hover effect cover the image when it's rolled over. How do I make it so this script will animate in and out (with a fade?) $(document).ready(function() { $('#gallery a').bind('mouseover', function(){ $(this).parent('li').css({position:'relative'}); var img = $(this).children('img'); $('<div />').text(' ').css({ 'height': img.height(), 'width': img.width(), 'background-color': 'orange', 'position': 'absolute', 'top': 0, 'left': 0, 'opacity': 0.5 }).bind('mouseout', function(){ $(this).remove(); }).insertAfter(this); }); });

  • How can I get around MySQL Errcode 13 with SELECT INTO OUTFILE?

    - by Ryan Olson
    but I am trying to dump the contents of a table to a csv file using a MySQL SELECT INTO OUTFILE statement. If I do: SELECT column1, column2 INTO OUTFILE 'outfile.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' FROM table_name; outfile.csv will be created on the server in the same directory this database's files are stored in. However, when I change my query to: SELECT column1, column2 INTO OUTFILE '/data/outfile.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' FROM table_name; I get: ERROR 1 (HY000): Can't create/write to file '/data/outfile.csv' (Errcode: 13) Errcode 13 is a permissions error, even if I change ownership of /data to mysql:mysql and give it 777 permissions. MySQL is running as user "mysql". Strangely, I can create the file in /tmp, just not in any other directory I've tried, even with permissions set such that user mysql should be able to write to the directory. This is MySQL 5.0.75 running on Ubuntu.

  • Invert the 1bbp color under a rectangle.

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I am working with GDI+, the image I am working with is a 1bbp image. What i would like to do is draw a rectangle on the image and everything under that rectangle will be inverted (white pixels will become black and black pixels become white). All of the sample code I have seen is for 8 bit RGB color scale images, and I don't think the techniques they use will work for me. Here is the code I have so far. This is the parent control, one of the Epl2.IDrawableCommand's will be the command that does the inverting. protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { base.OnPaint(e); if (Label != null) { using (Bitmap drawnLabel = new Bitmap((int)((float)Label.LabelHeight * _ImageScaleFactor), (int)((float)Label.LableLength *(int) _ImageScaleFactor), System.Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed)) { using (Graphics drawBuffer = Graphics.FromImage(drawnLabel)) { drawBuffer.ScaleTransform(_ImageScaleFactor, _ImageScaleFactor); foreach (Epl2.IDrawableCommand cmd in Label.Collection) { cmd.Paint(drawBuffer); } drawBuffer.ResetTransform(); } drawnLabel.RotateFlip(Rotation); pbLabelDrawArea.Size = drawnLabel.Size; using (Graphics drawArea = pbLabelDrawArea.CreateGraphics()) { drawArea.Clear(Color.White); drawArea.DrawImage(drawnLabel, new Point(0, 0)); } } } } What should I put in the Paint(Graphic g) for this command?

  • Format table header

    - by Ryan Erb
    I have a table with slanted text in the header row, the only problem is that the text still makes the width of the columns way to large. Is there any way to squish together the table columns so that they are about the width of the select boxes? Or is there a way to place the text there without it in the header and maybe just use a <div> or <p>? Here is the fiddle I am working with: http://jsfiddle.net/t9Krg/1/ .slanted { -webkit-transform: rotate(-45deg); -moz-transform: rotate(-45deg); -ms-transform: rotate(-45deg); -o-transform: rotate(-45deg); transform: rotate(-45deg); white-space:nowrap; /* display:noblock; */ } The boarders around the header is just to see the extra spacing and will be removed later.

  • addEventListener pass caller as argument

    - by Ryan
    Hi, I have the following code. And my problem is that when clicking, the event is firing but the argument passed is not the correct one. It is passing the last dynamically created row i.e. dataStructure.length value. Anyone knows a solution how to get around this? var table = document.getElementById('output'); for(i =0; i<dataStructure.length; i++){ var row = document.createElement('tr'); row.setAttribute('id', i); var url = dataStructure[i].url; if(document.addEventListener) row.addEventListener('click', function(){handleRowClick(i);}, false); var obj = dataStructure[i]; var cellCount = 0; for(field in obj){ var cell = document.createElement('td'); cell.setAttribute('id', cellCount++); //cell.addEventListener('click', function(){window.open(dataStructureObj.links[i].url);}, false); cell.innerHTML = obj[field]; row.appendChild(cell); } cellCount = 0; table.appendChild(row); } } function handleRowClick(rowClicked){ var rowHTML = rowClicked.innerHTML; var cells = rowHTML.getElementsByTagName('td'); for(cell in cells) { alert(cell.value); } window.open(cells[1].innerHTML); }

  • Does it ever make sense to make a fundamental (non-pointer) parameter const?

    - by Scott Smith
    I recently had an exchange with another C++ developer about the following use of const: void Foo(const int bar); He felt that using const in this way was good practice. I argued that it does nothing for the caller of the function (since a copy of the argument was going to be passed, there is no additional guarantee of safety with regard to overwrite). In addition, doing this prevents the implementer of Foo from modifying their private copy of the argument. So, it both mandates and advertises an implementation detail. Not the end of the world, but certainly not something to be recommended as good practice. I'm curious as to what others think on this issue. Edit: OK, I didn't realize that const-ness of the arguments didn't factor into the signature of the function. So, it is possible to mark the arguments as const in the implementation (.cpp), and not in the header (.h) - and the compiler is fine with that. That being the case, I guess the policy should be the same for making local variables const. One could make the argument that having different looking signatures in the header and source file would confuse others (as it would have confused me). While I try to follow the Principle of Least Astonishment with whatever I write, I guess it's reasonable to expect developers to recognize this as legal and useful.

  • Solved: Help with this compile error

    - by Scott
    I just picked up an old project and I'm not sure what the following error could mean. g++ -o BufferedReader.o -c -g -Wall -std=c++0x -I/usr/include/xmms2 -Ijsoncpp/include/json/ -fopenmp -I/usr/include/ImageMagick -I/usr/include/xmms2 -I/usr/include/libvisual-0.4 -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_SCRIPT_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtScript BufferedReader.cpp In file included from BufferedReader.cpp:23: /usr/include/string.h:36:42: error: missing binary operator before token "(" In file included from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/cwchar:47, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/bits/postypes.h:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/iosfwd:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/ios:39, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/istream:40, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/sstream:39, from BufferedReader.cpp:24: At line 24 of BufferedReader.cpp is #include <string.h>. I've tried it with just <string> but get the same thing. Any clue? Here's the snippet of code from string.h /* Tell the caller that we provide correct C++ prototypes. */ #if defined __cplusplus && __GNUC_PREREQ (4, 4) //line 36 # define __CORRECT_ISO_CPP_STRING_H_PROTO #endif Does that mean __GNUC_PREREQ isn't defined? Edit: Changing -Ijsoncpp/include/json/ to Ijsoncpp/include stopped the errors. I noticed I was including <json/json.h>. I'm about to switch to JsonGlib though, which is the reason I pulled the project up again. So it's all good. :)

  • 2nd Year College - Learning - Microsoft Server Products

    - by Ryan
    As the title says, I just finished my first year of college (majoring in Software Engineering). Fortunately my school likes Microsoft enough, and I can get pretty much anything I want that Microsoft sells. I also can get IBM Websphere and the like for free as well. Earlier this year, I set up an oldish computer (2.6 Pentium D, x64) to run ubuntu server headless. I'm predominately a Java developer, so Apache, Maven, Nexus, Sonar, SVN, etc made it onto the machine. It worked really well for personal and school projects, especially team projects (quick ramp up). Anyways, I started to pick up C# to complement my Java knowledge (don't judge me :P), and am interested in working with some of the associated Microsoft equivalents. The machine currently has the Ubuntu install, as well as Windows 7 Ultimate. I do all of my actual development work off my laptop, also running Windows 7 Ultimate. I was wondering what software you would recommend putting on the machine. I’m not actually serving anything off the machine itself, but in Ubuntu I had it doing integration tests with Hudson on every commit, and profiling my applications, etc, etc. The machine would be running headless, and I would remote into it. Here is what I am currently leaning towards / wondering about: Windows 7 Ultimate vs Windows Server 2008 (R2) (no one is really clear why I should go with one over the other) Windows Team Foundation Sharepoint (Never used it before, kind of meh about it) IBM Websphere or Glassfish (Some Java EE web server) SQL Server 2008 A DVCS In order to better control product conflicts / limit resource use, I’m wondering if I should install things into virtual machines (I can get VmWare or Microsoft Virtualization Products) I also plan on installing everything I had running under Linux (it’s almost entirely Java based development software, so it’ll run on both, only reason I went with ubuntu during the year was because the apache build seemed better). I’m primarily looking to become familiar with enterprise software development tools, as well as get something functional that will help my development process. (IE, I’ll still use project and assign tasks even though I might be the only one to assign tasks to, just to practice doing so). Is there any other software / configuration details I should explore? Opinions on my current list? I primarily use C#, Java, and PHP. I'm familiar with ruby, and python as well. Thanks!

  • How do I do a fresh install of Google App Engine?

    - by ryan
    I've been using GAE for months now, but very recently I've had difficulty getting the latest release (1.3.4) to work for me. I'd like to remove GAE and start from scratch and reinstall it. However, it appears that deleting the googleappenginelauncher.app is not enough to completely remove it, because when I install the launcher again I see that it remembers the applications it was running previously (so at a minimum, there are some config files out there that I'm not removing properly). I'm new to Macs, so if there are other things I need to do besides deleting the .app, please let me know. Thanks for your help!

I have one application server and 2 WFE but when I am trying to create counter for my WFE its showing Sharepoint publishing cache but I am not able to add any instance of it but when I select my application server I can see all the instances. But If I want to check publishing hit ratio i need to run this on WFE also ...correct me if I m wrong? How to resolve this issue? Also, how to check the hit ratio as our site is not go-live so we don't get enuf users to hit the site to check this thing. Does it means that I can tune it up only my site go live and real load will get on it. Thanks, Amit

  • Book resources for x86/x64 assembly programming on Win platform

    - by Scott Davies
    Hello, I ran a search for assembly language resources on stackoverflow.com and found some interesting results, but they seemed to boil down to two groups: 1) Assembly references to old ia32 architecture, such as the 80386 to Pentium 2) Windows agnostic books. Most of the commenters make the point that assembler is CPU dependent and that the OS is irrelevant, but it seems pointless to me to pick a book that has assembly examples that refer to MS-DOS interrupts and memory layouts. Likewise, learning assembler on Linux would seem to produce Linux executables Are there any: 1) Modern 2) x86/x64 3) on Windows platform - book resources available ? The reason I am targeting the Win platform is I would like to do low-level, OS internals programming, to supplement my Win C/C++ work. Thanks
