  • Can I have Visual Studio IDE auto-comple brackets?

    - by Alex K
Suppose I have a line of code that starts like the following: Func1(Func2(Func3 Is it possible to set up Visual Studio (2005, 2008, 2010) IDE, so that when I hit ';' it will auto-complete all the brackets. I am only interested in brackets, nothing fancier. It doesn't have to be ';' key, it can be another key that auto-completes both brackets and ';'. This is a tiny thing that pops-up time and time again, and I've always wondered if I had to live with it. Thanks.

    - by nettguy
First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production. The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application? Please guide me what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system) Thanks in advance.

  • TFS and Project portal sync

    - by Tigran
Just installed TFS 2008. Created a project with portal site. When I create a bug in TFS from Visual Studio I'd like to see that bug in the web portal. And the other way around. When I add a task in the web portal I'd like to see that in Visual Studio. It's as if the web portal is not connected to TFS. I'm using the MSF for Agile Software Development template. I just saw Team System Web Access. That's what I want in addition to the other pages Sharepoint portal provides. For example the Wiki page and calendar view. So one place to see all tasks lists and assign task and see other project related pages. Maybe be able to has the tasks due dates come up on the calendar. Many thanks

  • IIS7 permit access only to local network

    - by user335518
Hi, I am having a problem with the IIS 7 on a Win 2008 server. I only want to have access to it inside my network and denied access from anyone outside the network. I had created a rule to permit access to the group of computers with the IP: 192.168.0.1 (255.255.255.0). In the IIS6 this was enougth to prevent access of any IP that don't belong to the network. Any idea of how can I block these access? Thanks!

  • Unable to load DLL 'foo.dll', but only when running through vhost

    - by biozinc
This is a variation on the old System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'foo.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). problem (where, of course, foo.dll is the name of an actual DLL). The strange part is that I only get this error when I "Run" in VS (2008 if that's relevant). That sits in the MyApp.vhost.exe processes. If I run the actual app in a command line (MyApp.exe) I encounter no errors. The problem extends to unit tests with MSTest. A check on the DLL with DependencyWalker on Foo.dll doesn't show any issues. Any ideas?

  • Capture window close event

    - by -providergordienko.vladimir
I want to capture events that close editor window (tab) in Visual Studio 2008 IDE. When I use dte2.Application.Events.get_CommandEvents(null, 0).BeforeExecute I successfully captured such events: File.Close File.CloseAllButThis File.Exit Window.CloseDocumentWindow and others. If code in window is not acceptable, I stop the event (CancelDefault = true). But if I click "X" button on the right hand side, "Save Changes"; dialog appears, tab with editor window close and I have no any captured events. In this case I can capture WindowClosing event, but can not cancel the event. Is it poosible to handle "x" button click and stop event?

  • Passing parameters to a flash movie inserted in a VB program

    - by Michael
Hi! I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. The flash movie will plot points sent by VB in a graph. I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

  • Wrapping a C# service in a console app to debug it.

    - by Jack Smit
I want to debug a service written in C# and the old fashioned way is just too long. I have to stop the service, start my application that uses the service in debug mode (Visual studio 2008), start the service, attach to the service process and then navigate in my Asp.Net application to trigger the service. I basically have the service running in the background, waiting for a task. The web application will trigger a task to be picked up by the service. What I would like to do is to have a console application that fires the service in an effort for me to debug. Is there any simple demo that anybody knows about? Thank you Jack

  • Preventing referenced assembly PDB and XML files copied to output

    - by Jason Morse
I have a Visual Studio 2008 C#/.NET 3.5 project with a post build task to ZIP the contents. However I'm finding that I'm also getting the referenced assemblies' .pdb (debug) and .xml (documentation) files in my output directory (and ZIP). For example, if MyProject.csproj references YourAssembly.dll and there are YourAssembly.xml and YourAssembly.pdb files in the same directory as the DLL they will show up in my output directory (and ZIP). I can exclude *.pdb when ZIP'ing but I cannot blanket exclude the *.xml files as I have deployment files with the same extension. Is there a way to prevent the project from copying referenced assembly PDB and XML files?

  • .NET and 64-bit application

    - by user54064
I want to make existing .NET applications (WinForms and WebForms) run on 64-bit machines, optimized to take advantage of more memory available on 64-bit machines. What do I need to do to the applications to take advantage of the memory? Do I just select the target CPU as 64-bit? What is the advantage of selecting the target versus just compiling the app for All CPUs and have the .NET optimize the app locally? Will Crystal Reports (in VS 2008) run optimized for 64-bit and take advantage of the upper memory?

  • How to enable Line numbering in Visual Studio

    - by Cyclone
Why doesn't VS have any sort of line numbering? Is there any way to enable it, or a plugin for it? I know, the number of lines of code in a program doesn't matter, but sometimes it is nice to know how long a program is, or what line number something is for reference. I can't seem to find that as an option anywhere, to my surprise. Thanks for the help! This is Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. (if you have read my older questions, I've been using 2008 Express until now.)

  • WCF is throwing UnauthorizedAccessExceptyion after upgrade to .NET 4.0

    - by Andrey
I have a pretty simple client-server ASP.NET app; communication is via WCF service. All worked perferctly inVS 2008, now I upgraded to VS2010 and every time the client code is trying to instantiate a channel to the server: new ChannelFactory<IMemberService>("Members.MemberService").CreateChannel(); it throws an UnauthorizedAccessException "Access denied". Were there any breaking changes in the new version, or do I need to add some configuration? I'm pretty stuck, any ideas would be highly appreciated! BTW, binding used is basicHttpBinding, i don't know if thats important here. Thank you, Andrey

  • What happens after a packet is captured?

    - by Rayne
Hi all, I've been reading about what happens after packets are captured by NICs, and the more I read, the more I'm confused. Firstly, I've read that traditionally, after a packet is captured by the NIC, it gets copied to a block of memory in the kernel space, then to the user space for whatever application that then works on the packet data. Then I read about DMA, where the NIC directly copies the packet into memory, bypassing the CPU. So is the NIC - kernel memory - User space memory flow still valid? Also, do most NIC (e.g. Myricom) use DMA to improve packet capture rates? Secondly, does RSS (Receive Side Scaling) work similarly in both Windows and Linux systems? I can only find detailed explanations on how RSS works in MSDN articles, where they talk about how RSS (and MSI-X) works on Windows Server 2008. But the same concept of RSS and MSI-X should still apply for linux systems, right? Thank you. Regards, Rayne

  • Running NUnit tests in Visual Studio 2010 with code coverage

    - by adrianbanks
We have recently upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. As part of our code base, we have a very large set of NUnit tests. We would like to be able to run these unit tests within Visual Studio, but with code coverage enabled. We have ReSharper, so can run the tests within Visual Studio, but it does not allow the code coverage tool to do its thing and generate the coverage statistics. Is there any way to make this work, or will we have to convert the tests over to MSTest?

  • Does "Debug" invalidate ASP.Net MVC OutputCache?

    - by William Edmondson
    I have images stored in a database and am serving them from an MVC controller as "FileResult". If I run the MVC application from Visual Studio 2008 in debug mode and set a break point inside the controller method the debugger intercepts the call on every page refresh regardless of my "OutputCache" settings. Does the VS debugger invalidate the OutputCache or is there something else going on here? [OutputCache(Duration = 86400, VaryByParam = "id")] public FileResult Index(string id) { byte[] image; int imageId; int.TryParse(id, out imageId); using (var ctx = new EPEntities()) { var imageObj = (from images in ctx.Images where images.ID == imageId select images).FirstOrDefault(); image = imageObj.Image; } return new FileContentResult(image, "image/gif"); }

  • Can't read from aspnet_client folder for crystal reports

    - by Hank Allen
I created a little ASP .Net app to run Crystal Reports. It runs fine from VS 2008 but not when deployed to IIS on Windows 7. The toolbar images are not rendered. The problem seems to be I can't read from the aspnet_client folder even though I've made into a virtual directory. I can't even read images I put in there just to see if the folder can be read from an ASP page. I also made sure the IIS user can read from there. I'm stumped.

  • SQL Server: avoiding hard coding of database name in cross-database views

    - by codeulike
So, lets say you have two SQL Server Databases on the same server that reference each others tables in their Views, Functions and Stored Procedures. You know, things like this: use database_foo create view spaghetti as select f.col1, c.col2 from fusilli f inner join database_bar.dbo.conchigli c on f.id = c.id (I know that cross-database views are not very good practice, but lets just say you're stuck with it) Are there any good techniques to avoid 'hard coding' the database names? (So that should you need to occasionally re-point to a different database - for testing perhaps - you don't need to edit loads of views, fns, sps) I'm interested in SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 solutions. Cheers.

  • /analyze flag in Visual Studio 2010 Professional

    - by Martin
Running Visual Studio 2008 Professional it is possible to enable static code analysis using the /analyze flag (even though this is not supported for the Professional version according to the documentation). In Visual Studio 2010 Professional this no longer works. Instead there is a default /analyze- flag added (one I can't find a GUI setting for). This does not work as well as the VS2008 version (or at all). Can anyone shed some light into this? What does the new /analyze- flag do and is there any way to enable the old analysis?

  • How to be sure that my MVC project is runting on the correct version after upgrade to vs2010?

    - by Stephane
I just installed visual studio 2010 and upgraded my MVC project (which was running on MVC RC2 in visual studio 2008). visual studio 2010 updated every project file to target the framework 4.0. But the system.web.dll is pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 2\Assemblies\System.Web.Mvc.dll in VS2010 object browser, I have every dll showing up in multiple versions as expected (3.5.0.0 and 4.0.0.0) except for the System.Web.Mvc dll which doesn't show any version and points to the path I mentioned above. Isn't this namespace point to the Framework folder like the System.Web namespace? C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.dll

  • Windows API - Beginner help

    - by nXqd
I try to create a very simple app using windows API. I've done some small apps in console. This is the first time I do with Win32 apps. I've searched and found a document from forgers which is recommended in this site. But I try to write very first line: #include <stdafx.h> #include <windows.h> int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { MessageBoxW (NULL, "Good bye Cruel World", "Note", MB_OK ); return 0; } But it doesn't work ( erased lines from default project created by VS 2008 and write these lines ) Waiting for your answers :)

  • Compile error when trying to _debug_ a Visual Stuio integration project

    - by Rune FS
I'm currently working on a Visual Studio integration project for VS2010 (a custom highlighter) I'm using Irony and the LanguageServiceTemplate from this Code project article. However that template is build for 2008 and the changes made in VS2010 when it comes to integrating breaks the template. When I try to compile I get the following error: Source.extension.vsixmanifest file not found in project. If a file with this name is present in the project, make sure the build action is set to "None". Any ides of what I can do to fix it?

  • Trying to add AddThis to multiple items through JavaScript

    - by Mantorok
    I have to add an AddThis chunk to a bunch of controls, the reason I'm doing this through JS is because the addthis: attributes cause XHTML validation errors, so I wrote a JS script that takes the control I want to add the html into and some other bits: function AddExternalLinks(control, url, title) { $(control).html("<div class'addthis_toolbox addthis_default_style'><a class='addthis_button_facebook'" + " addthis:url=" + url + " addthis:title=" + title + " addthis:description=" + title + "></a>" + "<a class='addthis_button_twitter' " + " addthis:url=" + url + " addthis:title=" + title + " addthis:description=" + title + "></a></div>" + "<script type='text/javascript' src='http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#username=cornwallweb'></script>"); However this does not work, the html is added fine but the script fails with the following error: *c._Queuer is not a constructor [Break on this error] if(!window._ate){var _atd="www.addthis...(c) 2008, 2009, 2010 Add This, LLC / addthi...wallweb (line 2) Any ideas? • C# - Determine if class initializaion causes infinite recursion?

    - by John M
    I am working on porting a VB6 application to C# (Winforms 3.5) and while doing so I'm trying to break up the functionality into various classes (ie database class, data validation class, string manipulation class). Right now when I attempt to run the program in Debug mode the program pauses and then crashes with a StackOverFlowException. VS 2008 suggests a infinite recursion cause. I have been trying to trace what might be causing this recursion and right now my only hypothesis is that class initializations (which I do in the header(?) of each class). My thought is this: mainForm initializes classA classA initializes classB classB initializes classA .... Does this make sense or should I be looking elsewhere? UPDATE1 (a code sample): mainForm namespace john { public partial class frmLogin : Form { stringCustom sc = new sc(); stringCustom namespace john { class stringCustom { retrieveValues rv = new retrieveValues(); retrieveValues namespace john { class retrieveValues { stringCustom sc = new stringCustom();

  • How to compare two TXT files before send it to SQL

    - by adopilot
I have to handle TXT dat files which coming from one embed device, My problem is in that device always sending all captured data but I want to take only difrences between two sending and do calculation on them. After calculation I send it to SQL using bulkinsert function. I want to extract data which is different according to first file I got from device. Lats say that device first time device send data like this in some.dat (ASCII) file 0000199991 0000199321 0000132913 0000232318 0000312898 On second calls to get data from device it is going to return all again (previous and next captured records) something like this 0000199991 0000199321 0000132913 0000232318 0000312898 9992129990 8782999022 2323423456 But this time I do want only to calculate and pass trough data added after first insert. I am trying to make Win Forms app using C# and Visual Studio 2008
