I have several Windows Server 2003 Terminal servers to service our domain users.
Sometimes the Default User profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Default User) gets filled with tempoary internet files, so when a new user logs in, he gets a 1GB profile (instead of 20MB) that fills up the server fast.
Why is it the default user profile gets filled up with files like that, by who and how do i prevent this?
I have a problem with a LTO 3 Tape Drive. I'm using Brightstor ArcServe Backup software with Windows Server 2003.
Sometimes, the scheduled backups will stop working and going into "devices" inside this software reveals that the Tape Drive is offline. The only way to make it work again is uninstalling the Tape Drive's driver and rebooting the server: Windows then auto recognizes and installs the required drivers and the Tape Drive works again.
Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem?
If I have a group policy, and add a group/user/machine etc to that group policy, how long is it until all domain controllers have that change in effect?
This is a Windows 2003 Domain set up with controllers at different geographic locations (Each with a different L3 network).
I realize it probably depends, but how do I figure out how long it generally takes for my given setup? Also, is there an event I can check to see if it has a reached a particular domain controller?
I m working on Microsoft Visual Stdio 2005. I am working on ASP.NET. I added project to VSS. I found this project correctly, but other user can't access this. show this error message. and this web project cannot working in vss
Had a thing at work today on a Windows Server 2003 box. In IIS Manager I'm trying to create an application for a directory. So I've brought up the properties dialog and clicked the "Create" button and it did absolutely nothing - no error, the application name box stays greyed out and there's no gear icon on the folder. Also there was no event log message.
Has anyone seen this happen or know of a solution?
Is there any equivalent of the VS7/8/9/10 Edit - Advanced - Format Document (Ctrl+K,Ctrl+D) function in the Visual Basic 6 IDE?
I've inherited an old codebase and it is messy in places so I'd like to tidy it up.
Whenever I try to click a message in Outlook 2003 or do "New Message" I get a Save As file window and the program stops responding.
This also happens when I try to open Word files.
I've tried rebooting and I've tried to go through the repair process on the Office install disk.
I just installed 4 1.5TB hard disks (WD) in two servers (2 in each). Upon reboot they are not showing up in the disk manager whatsoever.
I'm running Windows Server 2003 EE (32bit) with 8GB ram. They both currently have mirrored 300GB sata disks. Why aren't they being recognized? Is there a disk size limit for win2k3 r2?
On a VMware virtual machine which has severe performance problems I can see a constant average of 20+ percent CPU load for the TASKMGR.EXE (task manager) process. The apps running on this server have lower load, around 4 to 10 percent average. The VM is running Windows 2003 Server Standard with 3.75 GB assigned RAM. I suspect that the task manager CPU load has something to do with other VM instances on the VMWare server but could not see a similar value on internal ESXi systems (the problematic VM runs in the customers IT).
Hi,
my OS is Windows Server 2003.
I installed the FTP Service and configure it with the IIS 6.0 Console.
When I deactivate my firewall, all its okay, but when not, I can't get a connection.
Port 21 tcp + udp, port 22 tcp + udp and the whole FTP-Server Application is set as go trouhgt, but don't work. Of course, the FTP ruins on 21.
Any ideas
I have Windows 2003 AD DFS share, sometimes when pasting a file it will not go in to the target folder, it makes a new folder with the same name as the target and puts the copy in that new folder.
Our internal network folder can take up to 5 seconds to generate a thumbnail for each photo in a network folder. Usually, only 10% of thumbnails actually display; the rest are default jpg icons.
A thumbs.db file already exists inside this folder, so presumably the thumbnails have been generated before. Why do they have to be generated again?
The PC is Win7 64-bit.
The server is Windows 2003 Server SP2.
My OS is Windows XP SP3.
This message sometimes comes up when I am shutting the computer down:
The instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000.
The memory could not be read.
The computer still shuts down. I cannot find a reference to this happening on shutdown, it only seems to be connected to programs that I don't have.
I have the whole Word 2003 package.
Any direction appreciated.
On a Windows 2003 server, I need to provide access to a subfolder of the central "project share". The main project folders should not be accessible, preferably hidden, because this access is granted for a freelancer.
Which minimal permissions can be applied to make this possible?
I have just installed VisualStudio.NET. In the Design area I have added some graphical components (button, textbox) but I can't move these within the specified area, as their position remains unchanged. I would like to move these graphical components with the mouse cursor, I know it's possible, does anyone know how?
My code dumps a hell amount of data on the command prompt. How do I activate the 'MORE' option for the output so that I see the output page by page? (MS Visual Studio)
For eg. Matlab has the command 'more on' to do the same!
Thanks.
Hi all,
I am having fifty workstations which are connected to a windows server 2003 server and the internet is shared from the server .My question is , am i able to implement a tracking mechanism without using any proxy server and track all the web pages which ever visited by an individual workstation connected to a network? If possible how to achieve that kind of tracking mechanism? Some workstations do open their web pages in InPrivate browsing , can we access those browsing history?
Running IIS 6 on Windows 2003 server (with a web service app). I suspect the machine is I/O bound.
I'm hearing reports of errors - but not seeing those errors in the IIS logs.
What is the standard way of verifying this? Is there a counter in perfmon?
Thanks for the help.
In MySQL you have to authorized a user based on the name of the origin network. From my network to a remote one all connections appear as sent from mail.mycompany.com. But connections to another remote network it appears with a different origin. How to discover which name/ip it is using?
I tried tcpdump and netstat in the destination but it is difficult to find my connection among billions of others.
In my case the destination is a Windows Server 2003
In Server 2003:
I would like to make a copy of a pre-existing local group on the server and then modify its users.
How can I make a copy of a group? (with a new name, of course)
Alternatively, is there a way I can copy all the users from one group to another?
Like a lot of offices we have a few public shares for different teams to save their data. Today I helped someone restore some folders from a shadow copy that had been deleted sometime last week. While I had the shadow copies (and backups elsewhere), I couldn't answer the obvious first question.
"Who deleted the files?"
We're running Windows 2003 server, everyone has active directory accounts.
Is there any guaranteed way of determining the date that Office 2003 (and .Net Framework v2.0) were installed on a client computer?
I am trying to nail down a problem which I think is due to the order that the .Net Framework and Office 2003 were installed in, so I need a way I can get a client to have a look at their machine (preferably the file system) and let me know.
It may require admin privileges (or Registry etc) which wouldn't be a problem but not the preferred solution.
It appears that the folders under Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 have a number with the same date which at first sight appear to be an installation date / time.
Likewise in Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727 there are two with the same date, but this seems less certain.
I could use WMI with a winmgmts:object and SELECT * FROM Win32_Product, but was wondering if there was a 'telephone' way to do it!
