Or: how do I find the IIS metabase paths in Windows 7?
I used to just run aspnet_regiis -lk, but this is "Not supported in Windows Vista" according to aspnet_regiis help...
I'm using a JTree to browse the content of a folder and I want that when a user click on a file, the software shows a preview of it (like in the Windows Explorer).
I manage to do it for PDF file using a module downloaded from Sun, but I'd like to know if there is a way to do it using the built-in Windows API.
A lot of windows services write daily log files to their application installation directory under "program files".
Windows system apps (eg IIS) use %SystemRoot%\System32\LogFiles. Is something I should do for my service?
Hey guys.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04, trying out linux for the first time. I'm wondering if it's possible to link my documents folder in Ubuntu to my documents folder in Windows, so that when I open the folder in Ubuntu, I am linked to the folder in Windows.
Any ideas?

I want to make an easy to deploy Windows application and was was wondering which programming systems can create totally self contained Windows .exe files?
As a plus, if the same can be done with MacOSX and Linux from the same source this would be a bonus. I took a look at Realbasic but they have since abandoned the single .exe concept.
Does anyone know how to get/set the call divert settings in codes running on Windows mobile 5/6? I am new to windows mobile development and wonder if there is anyway to do it using C# and .NET CF?
As I understand it, the limitation of 255 characters in a file path is a Windows limitation. What is the reasoning for this? If so, has this been resolved in Windows 7?
In our continuous integration practices, we often have deeply nested project structures and it would be extremely useful to be able to go beyond 255 characters. Right now we are somewhat forced to structure our projects in such a way as to not hit this artificial ceiling.

My app is a simple hello world app. What could cause that such error message?

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to limit the CPU usage by any application on Windows 7 to 50%. I've tried searching the Internet for a way to do this, and it looks like this is an easy thing to do on Linux and Mac OS X (one command in the terminal) but I'm not sure how to do it on Windows 7. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I heard some people complaining about including the windows header file in a C++ application. They mentioned that it is inefficient. Is this just some urban legend or are there really some real hard facts behind it? In other words, if you believe it is efficient or inefficient please explain how this can be with facts.
I am no C++ Windows programmer guru. It would really be appreciated to have detailed explanations.
Does Windows installer provide a built-in method for updating applications, or do I have to write this myself in my application code?
For example, ClickOnce can automatically update my application for me; I do not have to write code specifically for this in my application. Is similar functionality available in Windows Installer or is it purely for installation purposes only?

I would like to develop a small notifications application for Windows in .NET that docks on the right/left side of the screen (not consuming more than 300px), should always be visible and force the rest of windows to not overlap this application (something like the old Office taskbar or Vista's Sidebar). I have no idea where to start. Can it be done using XAML/WPF? Since I haven't even started coding any option is valid at this point.
Thanks!
We're developing a windows mobile 6.1 application and would like to make the user interface look better than the standard battleship grey. Has anyone had any experience with 3rd party controls that can make a windows mobile app look like a WPF/Silverlight/Iphone - like interface?

Just wondering if it is possible to figure out who has read files from a Windows share (using .NET ideally but win32 native will do)?
What I'm try to do is create something like awstats for a windows share so I can see who is accessing what and which are the most popular files.
I'm not interested in changes - I just want to log access (with time) along with ip / hostname and what file.
The only way to install windows-service I know is using "Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt", Is there a way to install windows-service on a machine which isn't having Visual Studio installed (assume that .Net version 2.X is installed.)
Hello,
I need to develop an iPhone/iPod Touch application that creates a server to send some data stream (characters or bytes) to a Windows C++ application via Bluetooth. I'm thinking of creating a TCP connection, but don't know where to start.
What iPhone API should I use do to something like this? Does anyone knows some code examples that i can use to do this?
And in Windows, what should I use to support this kind of communication?
Thanks
