  • Draggble object hides outside content when wrapt in span

    - by Cinaird
    I have a simple CSS problem In this site http://web.cinaird.se/pdf/test.htm I have a draggable images in the top content, I want a span that float on top of the image and for this I need a span containing the image and a span floating on top. So long no problem but now when i drag the image it hides outside the top content. so my question is as follows, how can I wrap a image and a floating span above and still be able to drag it outside the container. I hop I don't have missed something obvious and you have a quick solution, Thanks for your time.

  • Short snippet summarizing a webpage?

    - by Legend
    Is there a clean way of grabbing the first few lines of a given link that summarizes that link? I have seen this being done in some online bookmarking applications but have no clue on how they were implemented. For instance, if I give this link, I should be able to get a summary which is roughly like: I'll admit it, I was intimidated by MapReduce. I'd tried to read explanations of it, but even the wonderful Joel Spolsky left me scratching my head. So I plowed ahead trying to build decent pipelines to process massive amounts of data Nothing complex at first sight but grabbing these is the challenging part. Just the first few lines of the actual post should be fine. Should I just use a raw approach of grabbing the entire html and parsing the meta tags or something fancy like that (which obviously and unfortunately is not generalizable to every link out there) or is there a smarter way to achieve this? Any suggestions? Update: I just found InstaPaper do this but am not sure if it is getting the information from RSS feeds or some other way.

  • The post->success->data variable is empty..

    - by Asaf
    Hello, I tried sending some data like so: <form action="http://www.someurl.com/something.php" id="login"> <input type="textbox" id="UserName" value="user"> <input type="textbox" id="Password" value="password"> <input type="submit" value="submit"> </form> <div id="result"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> $('form#login').submit(function() { $.post($('form#login').attr('action'), $('form#login').serialize(), function(data) { $('#result').html(data+'222') }); return false; }); </script> Now, the value of #result div change to 222... that is: the post was successful but for some reason there is no data, and when I go directly to something.php and post manually, it does bring back data (am I mistaken or does the post(success(data)) variable returns the whole page returned after you post something? if so, how could it be?) Thank you very much for your help

  • Evenly distribute data into columns with JavaScript

    - by marius.cdm
    I'm looking for a way to evenly distribute my JSON data into HTML columns. Using javascript to pull the data $.ajax({ url: "url", dataType: 'json', data: "e="+escape(divID), cache: true, success: function(data) { var items = data; // ??? $('.result').html(list); } }); Input data: ["A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G", "H", "I", "J", "K"] Expected result: <ul> <li>A</li> <li>B</li> <li>C</li> <li>D</li> </ul> <ul> <li>E</li> <li>F</li> <li>G</li> <li>H</li> </ul> <ul> <li>I</li> <li>J</li> <li>K</li> </ul> I found a partial result here, but the output data is in console. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Why is JSON outputting out of order?

    - by dcp3450
    I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it. The output is correct, only the order is wrong. var loc = null; var body = ""; var campuses = new Array(8); campuses[0] = "34.47242,-84.42489,1"; campuses[1] = "33.81488,-84.62048,2"; campuses[2] = "34.27502,-84.46976,3"; campuses[3] = "33.92987,-84.55065,4"; campuses[4] = "34.03433,-84.46723,5"; campuses[5] = "34.08362,-84.67115,6"; campuses[6] = "33.91124,-84.82634,7"; campuses[7] = "34.10409,-84.51804,8"; function getWeather(campusArray) { body += '<p class="topTitle">Campus Weather</p>'; var cSplit = new Array(); cSplit = campusArray.split(','); var loc = "http://www.worldweatheronline.com/feed/weather.ashx?q="+cSplit[0]+","+cSplit[1]+"&format=json&num_of_days=2&key=0a05fff921162948110401&callback=?"; $('#content').html('asdf'); $.getJSON(loc,function(js) { var data = js.data; var humidity = data.current_condition[0].humidity; var tempF = data.current_condition[0].temp_F; var iconDESC = data.current_condition[0].weatherDesc[0].value; var iconURL = data.current_condition[0].weatherIconUrl[0].value; var windDir = data.current_condition[0].winddir16Point; var windSpeed = data.current_condition[0].windspeedMiles; var tempMaxF = data.weather[0].tempMaxF; var tempMinF = data.weather[0].tempMinF; body += '<p class="title">'+cSplit[2]+'</p>'+ '<span class="body">'+tempF+ ' '+windSpeed+ '<img src="'+iconURL+'" /></span>'; $('#content').html(body); }); } getWeather(campuses[0]); getWeather(campuses[1]); getWeather(campuses[2]); getWeather(campuses[3]); getWeather(campuses[4]); getWeather(campuses[5]); getWeather(campuses[6]); getWeather(campuses[7]); I have also tried it as $.ajax var loc = null; var body = ""; var campuses = new Array(8); campuses[0] = "34.47242,-84.42489,1"; campuses[1] = "33.81488,-84.62048,2"; campuses[2] = "34.27502,-84.46976,3"; campuses[3] = "33.92987,-84.55065,4"; campuses[4] = "34.03433,-84.46723,5"; campuses[5] = "34.08362,-84.67115,6"; campuses[6] = "33.91124,-84.82634,7"; campuses[7] = "34.10409,-84.51804,8"; function getWeather(campusArray) { body += '<p class="topTitle">Campus Weather</p>'; var cSplit = new Array(); cSplit = campusArray.split(','); var loc = "http://www.worldweatheronline.com/feed/weather.ashx?q="+cSplit[0]+","+cSplit[1]+"&format=json&num_of_days=2&key=0a05fff921162948110401&callback=?"; $.ajax({ url: loc, async: true, dataType: "json", success: function(js) { var data = js.data; var humidity = data.current_condition[0].humidity; var tempF = data.current_condition[0].temp_F; var iconDESC = data.current_condition[0].weatherDesc[0].value; var iconURL = data.current_condition[0].weatherIconUrl[0].value; var windDir = data.current_condition[0].winddir16Point; var windSpeed = data.current_condition[0].windspeedMiles; var tempMaxF = data.weather[0].tempMaxF; var tempMinF = data.weather[0].tempMinF; body += '<p class="title">'+cSplit[2]+'</p>'+ '<span class="body">'+tempF+ ' '+windSpeed+ '<img src="'+iconURL+'" /></span>'; $('#content').html(body); } }); } getWeather(campuses[0]); getWeather(campuses[1]); getWeather(campuses[2]); getWeather(campuses[3]); getWeather(campuses[4]); getWeather(campuses[5]); getWeather(campuses[6]); getWeather(campuses[7]); EDIT: example of json output: { "data": { "current_condition": [ {"cloudcover": "100", "humidity": "93", "observation_time": "04:04 PM", "precipMM": "0.0", "pressure": "1009", "temp_C": "2", "temp_F": "36", "visibility": "8", "weatherCode": "116", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Mist" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0006_mist.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "290", "windspeedKmph": "7", "windspeedMiles": "4" } ], "request": [ {"query": "Lat 34.47 and Lon -84.42", "type": "LatLon" } ], "weather": [ {"date": "2011-01-06", "precipMM": "9.3", "tempMaxC": "7", "tempMaxF": "45", "tempMinC": "2", "tempMinF": "35", "weatherCode": "113", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Sunny" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0001_sunny.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "293", "winddirection": "WNW", "windspeedKmph": "20", "windspeedMiles": "13" }, {"date": "2011-01-07", "precipMM": "0.0", "tempMaxC": "6", "tempMaxF": "44", "tempMinC": "0", "tempMinF": "31", "weatherCode": "116", "weatherDesc": [ {"value": "Partly Cloudy" } ], "weatherIconUrl": [ {"value": "http:\/\/www.worldweatheronline.com\/images\/wsymbols01_png_64\/wsymbol_0002_sunny_intervals.png" } ], "winddir16Point": "WNW", "winddirDegree": "286", "winddirection": "WNW", "windspeedKmph": "25", "windspeedMiles": "16" } ] }}

  • Create a variable which is named depending on an ID number?

    - by gray
    Is there any way to create a variable, and add an ID to the end of the actual variable name? I have a variable called 'gauge', used to create a new Gauge object: var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); I want to add an ID to the variable, so something like: var gauge+id = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); It's because I'm creating a number of these objects, and have a specific ID already for each one, which I want to attach to the gauge object if possible? All my code for this function is below, if it gives you a better idea of what i need to do: function go(id, votes) { var val = $('#votes_'+id).text(); var target = document.getElementById('foo_'+id); // your canvas element var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); // create sexy gauge! gauge.maxValue = 100; // set max gauge value gauge.animationSpeed = 20; // set animation speed (32 is default value) var a=votes+0.5; gauge.set(val); // set actual value } My main problem arises on the last line. It says gauge.set(val), and it only sets the last object, ignoring all the other ones...

  • External Javascript file fails to receive variables from previous javascript block

    - by Franc
    I've been searching the net for several hours and can't find an answer in the whole "external js file"-jungle. I hope you guys can help! In short: My external javascript file doesn't seem to get the variables which I defined in the main.php file.. On main.php I define php variables and "transform" them into javascript variables <head>... <script type="text/javascript"> var phpmain_img = <?php echo json_encode($main_img); ?>; var phpvar1_large = <?php echo json_encode($var1_large); ?>; var phpvar2_large = <?php echo json_encode($var2_large); ?>; var phpvar3_large = <?php echo json_encode($var3_large); ?>; var phpvar4_large = <?php echo json_encode($var4_large); ?>; </script> ... <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="/wshop/ext.js"></script> </head> In my ext.js file I want to process those variables. In the ext.js file I defined a the function swapImage() that will be used back in the main PHP: var imgArray = new Array( phpmain_img, phpvar1_large, phpvar2_large, phpvar3_large ); function swapImage(imgID) { var theImage = document.getElementById('theImage'); var newImg; newImg = imgArray[imgID]; theImage.src = newImg; } function preloadImages() { for(var i = 0; i < imgArray.length; i++) { var tmpImg = new Image; tmpImg.src = imgArray[i]; } } Result: The swapImage() in the main.php... doesnt work <div id="image"> <img id="theImage" src="<?=$main_img; ?>" alt="" /> </div> <div id="thumbs"> <?php echo "<img src=\"<$main_img_small\" alt=\"\" onmouseover=\"swapImage(0);\">"; echo "<img src=\"$var1_small\" alt=\"\" onmouseover=\"swapImage(1);\">"; echo "<img src=\"$var2_small\" alt=\"\" onmouseover=\"swapImage(2);\">"; echo "<img src=\"$var3_small\" alt=\"\" onmouseover=\"swapImage(3);\">"; ?> <br /> </div> Any help is greatly appreciated! UPDATE: I don't get a specific error, the swapImage functions doesn't work at mouseover. However, I tried to output the variables with e.g. document.write(phpimg_main) but nothing appears which makes me believe that there's something wrong with the handing over of the variables... here's the source code browser output `<html> <head> <link href="../demo.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <style type="text/css"> .... </style> <script type="text/javascript"> var phpmain_img = {"0":"http:\/\/path\/to\/main\/image.jpg"}; var phpvar1_large = {"0":"http:\/\/path\/to\/image1.jpg"}; var phpvar2_large = {"0":"http:\/\/path\/to\/image2.jpg"}; var phpvar3_large = null; var phpvar4_large = null; </script> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="/wshop/ext.js"></script> </head> <body onload="preloadImages()"> <div id="image"> <img id="theImage" src="http://path-to-main-image.jpg" alt="" /> </div> <div id="thumbs"> <img src="http://path-to-main-image.jpg" alt="" onmouseover="swapImage(0);"><img src="http://path-to-image1.jpg" alt="" onmouseover="swapImage(1);"><img src="http://path-to-image2.jpg" alt="" onmouseover="swapImage(2);"> <br /> </div> </body> `

  • Prevent hash navigation url

    - by Koningh
    I have the following problem: I'm using a slider (coda) to let people navigate trough some 'pages'. The slider uses hash links to navigate to the next page/slide. If a user is at page one (#page1), there is a link which will lead the user to page 2 (#page2) and so on. At the top of the slider the numbers of the pages appear as a link, but only when the page is visited. So if there are six pages and the user navigates from the first to the second and then the third one, there are only three links at the top of the slider (to page one, two and three). The problem is that a user can navigate to page five (or any page actually) without first visiting the pages previous to page five by just using the hash URL and typing the whole link in their address bar. For example if I would type www.mydomain.com/slider/index.php#page5 the slider automatically navigates to the fifth slide/page of the slider and thereby skipping the first four. I want to allow users to navigate to #page5 only if they have visited the first four (So by clicking trough the slides). This means that if they would go to #page5 directly by typing the URL in the address bar, I would like them to be send to the first page (#page1). Does anyone have any idea on solving this?

  • JSTree select_node event and checkbox

    - by Ted Mosbey
    Hi there! I have a jstree in which I used the select_node event to toggle nodes(expand), and have therefore removed the toggle arrows in the tree since they look ugly and I've no need for them. Now I've added the checkbox plugin to use within the tree, but have found the select_node event is disabled when the plugin is active. How would I toggle my nodes with the checkbox plugin active, without re-adding the ugly toggle arrows? I could do it in the check/uncheck event, but I don't want to check/uncheck everytime I expand a node.

  • Slight confusion of `this` in a JavaScript call back function

    - by thecoshman
    $.ajax({url: path_to_file, cache: false, success: function(html_result){ $("#window_" + this.id + "_cont_buffer").html(html_result);}) Now then. This function call is with in a function of a class. this.id is a property of said class. will this pass the function value of this.id into the string the anonymous function, or will it try to evaluate it when the function actually gets called, thus making no sense. If this is not going to work how I want it to, can you recommend how I achieve this.

  • Get dragged / saved items state back from Sql Server

    - by user571507
    Ok i saw many post's on how to serialize the value of dragged items to get hash and they tell how to save them. Now the question is how do i persist the dragged items the next time when user log's in using the has value that i got eg: <ul class="list"> <li id="id_1"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_2"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_3"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_4"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget"> </div> </li> </ul> which on serialize will give "id[]=1&id[]=2&id[]=3&id[]=4" Now think that i saved it to Sql server database in a single field called SortOrder. Now how do i get the items to these order again ? the code to make these sort is below,without which people didn't know which library i had used to sort and serialize <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $(".list li").css("cursor", "move"); $(".list").sortable(); }); </script>

  • using .append to build a complex menu

    - by gneandr
    To build a menu block which should be switchable with hide/unhide of the menu items, I'm using .append html. The code idea is this: navigat += '<h3 class="infoH3"> <a id="' + menuID +'"' + ' href="javascript:slideMenu(\'' + menuSlider + '\');">' + menuName + '</a></h3>'; navigat += '<div id="' + menuSlider + '" style="display:none">'; navigat += ' <ul>'; navigat += ' <li>aMenu1</li>' navigat += ' <li>aMenu2</li>' navigat += ' <li>aMenu3</li>' navigat += ' </ul>'; navigat += '<!-- menuName Slider --></div>'; $("#someElement").append (navigat); This is doing well .. so far. But the point is:: I use JS to read the required menu items (eg. 'aMenu1' together with title and/or link info) from a file to build all that, eg. for 'aMenu1' a complex is composed and $("#someElement").append(someString) is used to add that the 'someElement'. At the moment I build those html elements line by line. Also OK .. as far as the resulting string has the opening and closing tag, eg. "<li>aMenu2</li>". As can be seen from above posted code there is a line "<div id="' + menuSlider + '" style="display:none">". Appending that -- AFAIS -- the .append is automatically (????) adding "</div>" which closes the statement. That breaks my idea of the whole concept! The menu part isn't included in the 'menuSlider '. QQ: How to change it -- NOT to have that "</div" added to it?? Günter
