  • VMWare Workstation 8 reporting ""vmx86 driver version invalid handle" problem on booting VM

    - by dommer
    I'm just doing a VMWare Workstation 8 installation. However, on trying to boot (or create) a VM, it's reporting "Could not get vmx86 driver version: The handle is invalid." It recommends reinstalling, which I've done. Also, VMWare Player just hangs. Was going to post on the VMWare forums, but can't seem to create a new discussion (even though I've registered/logged in). It's our own fault for being too eager to upgrade, I guess.

  • Slides and Samples for My TechEd / Microsoft BI Conference Talks

    - by plitwin
    I posted the slides and samples for my talks I delivered in New Orleans on June 8th at Microsoft TechEd and Business Intelligence Conference. They can be downloaded from Paul Litwin's Conference Downloads. #1 Creating Report Subscriptions with SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services at 8 AM on Tuesday. Room 241In this session, learn how to set up standard and data-driven subscriptions using Report Manager. We discuss creating file-share, email, and null subscriptions; and how to deal with potential issues with parameters and security. We also demonstrate a sophisticated Microsoft ASP.NET-based application that creates subscriptions by calling the SSRS Web Services API.  #2 ASP.NET MVC for Web Forms Programmers at 3:15 PM Tuesday. Room 391Are you comfortable creating ASP.NET Web Form applications but even a little curious about what all the fuss is about MVC and test-driven development? In this session, Web Form junkie Paul Litwin takes a critical look at the world of ASP.NET MVC, but not from any expert point of view. Instead, Paul shares his experience as a Web Form developer who decided to take a closer look at this radical new approach to ASP.NET development. Come hear what Paul learned and if he plans to employ ASP.NET MVC in his future ASP.NET applications.

  • How can I track a bug that caused a crash and was reported via apport / whoopsie?

    - by nealmcb
    It used to be that when a program crashed, especially when a user was using a pre-release of Ubuntu, apport could be used to open a bug report. The user could then track the bug, see if it affected others, help fix it, etc. As of Precise 12.04, this behavior and workflow changed. As I discovered in Bug #993450 “Apport fails to submit bug report”, by default apport no longer opens a bug report (and it is awkward but not impossible to get it to do so). At the same time people are noticing a new "whoopsie" process, as described at What is the 'whoopsie' process and what does it do?. After some more googling, I dug this blueprint up, which describes the whole process: ErrorTracker - Ubuntu Wiki. (It didn't mention whoopsie or daisy, so I added them - please correct me if I got it wrong). Wow - this sounds like great work to streamline and improve the crash reporting process. I'm left with this question: how does a user learn what the status of the problem is? The blueprint now has this requirement The user should have some way to check back on the status of their crash report; e.g. have some report ID they can look at to see statistics and/or any associated bug #. E.g. provide a serial number at time of filing that they can load via a web page later on. which seems unimplemented. Is there anything available in the meantime? And how does a developer get into the game? Going to https://daisy.ubuntu.com just provides an "Incorrect Content-Type" error message. Finally, I suggest documenting the apport behavior changes in the Release Notes. It should be of interest to anyone who has been trying to help out Ubuntu.

  • Simple dependency tree diagram generator

    - by foampile
    I have a need to produce a simple dependency tree diagram. The input data would be in the following simple format: ITEM_NAME DEPENDENCY ---------------------------- ITEM_101 ITEM_75 ITEM_102 ITEM_77 ITEM_102 ITEM_61 ITEM_102 ITEM_11 This means that ITEM_101 depends on ITEM_75 and ITEM_102 depends on items ITEM_77, ITEM_61 and ITEM_11. So the diagram would have items ITEM_77, ITEM_61 and ITEM_11 in one vertical level and ITEM_102 would be below it with a line connecting each of the three dependencies to ITEM_102. The same would be for ITEM_101, ITEM_75 would be somewhere above it and there would be a line connecting it. In the real world this tree represents a hierarchy of scheduling jobs. We have a very extensive workload automation hierarchy in Autosys and I have heard that its front end utility has something like this tree visual representation, however, for some reason, that utility has been disabled by admins. My business users want to see this hierarchy in an easy-to-consume format. I was hoping that I won't have to program something like this from scratch because it seems like quite a common reporting requirement and the input data is simply formatted. My question is: is there a FOSS tool that takes standardized data input and produces such a hierarchical tree? Thanks

  • When my printer fails to print with only "printer error" as the message, how can I find details?

    - by lavinio
    Setup: Dell Latitude D620 in the docking station HP color laserjet 2550L Parallel cable Sometimes when I undock (and I do suspend before undocking and docking), when I reattach, the printer will not print. It simply says "error", with no description. Killing and restarting the spooler will not help, but rebooting will. There is nothing in the system event logs, nor does the print spooler window provide any details other than "error" My question is, when there is an error, is there any way to find out what is causing it to get stuck, so that I can "unstuck" it instead of rebooting?

    I have a classic ASP website that is crashing in IIS7. It is crashing because IIS doesn't allow file uploads greater than a certain size. I know this because files below about 200k work fine. I removed the Status Code 500 error in IIS but I still don't get a file name and the line where my code failed as I do when running locally. Instead I get: "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error." How do I get a file name and the line where my code failed? Here are my IIS settings:

  • error: no device connected

    - by Prabath Swarna
    I did a fresh install of 12.04 and it went fine, worked on it for several days, but one day the browser crashed and i reset the machine, after that I get this error when i boot; error: no device connected error: no device connected error: no device connected error: no device connected This comes after the BIOS confirmation, and it stays for about 30 seconds, then the grub menu comes and when I selected the default the screen becomes purple and stays like that for a whole Minuit. I thought maybe that is because I have 500GB HDD so i ran the boot-repair, It did nothing at all. I'm sure I did the boot-repair thing right, sorry I forgot the paste URL. If i reinstalled will this error persist.

  • Error Installing COM+ (Error Code: 80131501)

    - by Regina Foo
    I've written a class library that reads from an xml file and return the result as a string. But when I want to install it as a COM+ component, an error occurred (Error Code: 80131501). I checked the event log and the details of the error is: Installation of 'C:\Users\User\Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\InteropSOA\InteropSOA\bin\Debug\InteropSOA.dll' into '{28E82165-AD74-4E16-90C9-0C5CE7DA97AA}' failed with an exception: System.EnterpriseServices.RegistrationException: FATAL: Could not find component 'InteropSOA.ConfigReader' we just installed. at System.EnterpriseServices.RegistrationDriver.InstallAssembly(RegistrationConfig regConfig, Object obSync) at System.EnterpriseServices.RegistrationHelper.InstallAssemblyFromConfig(RegistrationConfig& regConfig) at System.EnterpriseServices.RegistrationHelper.InstallAssembly(String assembly, String& application, String partition, String& tlb, InstallationFlags installFlags) at System.EnterpriseServices.Internal.ComManagedImportUtil.InstallAssembly(String asmpath, String parname, String appname) Below are the steps I've done while developing the class library: Added "System.EnterpriseServices" to Reference. Imported the reference to the class. Declared the class as "ServicedComponent". Set project properties ("Make assembly COM-visible" checked, "Register for COM Interop" checked, Signed the assembly with a strong key file name.) • Templated function with two type parameters fails compile when used with an error-checking macro

    - by SirPentor
    Because someone in our group hates exceptions (let's not discuss that here), we tend to use error-checking macros in our C++ projects. I have encountered an odd compilation failure when using a templated function with two type parameters. There are a few errors (below), but I think the root cause is a warning: warning C4002: too many actual parameters for macro 'BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN' Probably best explained in code: #include "stdafx.h" template<class A, class B> bool DoubleTemplated(B & value) { return true; } template<class A> bool SingleTemplated(A & value) { return true; } bool NotTemplated(bool & value) { return true; } #define BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN(expr) \ do \ { \ bool __b = (expr); \ if (!__b) \ { \ return false; \ } \ } while (false) \ bool call() { bool thing = true; // BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN(DoubleTemplated<int, bool>(thing)); // Above line doesn't compile. BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN((DoubleTemplated<int, bool>(thing))); // Above line compiles just fine. bool temp = DoubleTemplated<int, bool>(thing); // Above line compiles just fine. BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN(SingleTemplated<bool>(thing)); BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN(NotTemplated(thing)); return true; } int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { call(); return 0; } Here are the errors, when the offending line is not commented out: 1>------ Build started: Project: test, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>Compiling... 1>test.cpp 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(38) : warning C4002: too many actual parameters for macro 'BOOL_CHECK_BOOL_RETURN' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(38) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ',' before ')' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(38) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(41) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(48) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(49) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(52) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '}' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(54) : error C2065: 'argv' : undeclared identifier 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(54) : error C2059: syntax error : ']' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(55) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(58) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '}' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(60) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '}' 1>c:\junk\temp\test\test\test.cpp(60) : fatal error C1004: unexpected end-of-file found 1>Build log was saved at "file://c:\junk\temp\test\test\Debug\BuildLog.htm" 1>test - 12 error(s), 1 warning(s) ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ========== Any ideas?   • SQL Server Reporting Services - website blank, builder works

    - by Keith
    We have a few reports in SQL Server Reporting Services. For some reason when we run the report from the website, it doesn't return any data. When I run the same report from the Report Builder, it returns data. I looked in the logs and the only errors I could find is: ReportingServicesService!library!8!6/15/2012-08:12:33:: i INFO: Current DB Version Unknown, Instance Version C.0.8.54. I'm not really sure why it would be a different version. It's all SQL Server 2008 R2 and I haven't made any changes to it since it's been running.

  • jquery ajax call returning error when its not an error

    - by azz0r
    Hello, My JS Is: $(InitFavorite); function InitFavorite(){ var jList = $(".favourite_link"); var ids_to_check = {};//new Array(); $.each(jList, function () { var id = this.id; var object = id.split("_"); if (!ids_to_check[object[1]]) { ids_to_check[object[1]] = []; } ids_to_check[object[1]].push(object[0]); }); //console.log(ids_to_check); $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: '/user/subscription/favourite-listing', data: ids_to_check, dataType: 'json', beforeSend: function(x) { if(x && x.overrideMimeType) { x.overrideMimeType("application/j-son;charset=UTF-8"); } }, error: function() { alert(1); }, success: function() { alert(2); /*$each(returned_values, function() { alert('boom'); });*/ } }); } From the ajax call, the following data is returned: {"env":"development","loggedIn":true,"translate":{}}{"Playlist":{"10":"Stop Recieving Updates For This Playlist"},"Clip":{"26":"Recieve Updates For This Clip","27":"Recieve Updates For This Clip","28":"Recieve Updates For This Clip","29":"Stop Recieving Updates For This Clip","30":"Recieve Updates For This Clip"}} However, success is never triggered, just error, despite there being no header and json being put out as the header (via zend framework). Ideas?
