I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows.
I am wondering whether on Mac there is similar tools like Putty or XTerm used on Linux/Windows (SSH client with more handy features than command line)?
Thanks in advance.
Hi I have HP pivilion dv2-1117e entertainment nootbook.I have installed window XP but I don't have the vedio,audio,WLAN drivers Pleas help me and if possible informe me on "[email protected]"

I'm using Virtual PC on Windows 7 and have periodically gotten this error when trying to shut down:
Cannot shutdown a locked virtual machine.
Google search on "locked virtual machine" Virtual PC revealed no solution for Virtual PC.
I need a program to control time, I need the time to go forth and back (for me to choose)
and I insert the staring time.
I also need a program to control lap times.
If anyone know any program for these stuff (racing stuff), I would apreciate it, even if there only are paid solution, I still would like to take a look at them (I staring to make a program in python and it could be good for inspiration)
Notepad++ does auto-complete for html and also for JavaScript. but the auto-completion depends on file extension.html file supports completion for html only. Is there a way to enable auto-completion for javascript in the script tag of an html file? I mean, other than copying the auto-completion keyword list from "javascript.xml" to "html.xml" files...
As suggested on stackoverflow, asking on superuser, as I could not find a satisfactory answer there. If anyone has any idea, please let me know!
(I hope I am not the only one having this kind of an requirement! :))
I am attempting to write my first shell script (I'm running Ubuntu 10.x)
This is what my 'script' looks like
cd /path/to/directory/cronscripts
. testscript
I put the following debug statements (after the cd), in the script above to make sure everything was ok:
pwd
echo `ls -lhrt`
and it displayed all the files in the directory. So I dont understand the error message I am getting.
I have the following two questions
Why am I getting the above error message and how do I fix it?
My script seems to run fine without a shebang in the first line - infact when I try either of the following:
#!/usr/bin/bash
#!/usr/bin/bash env
I get the following error message:
/usr/bin/bash: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
What is the purpose of the shebang statement and why do I get the above error when I try to include it in my script/ how do I fix it, so I can add the shebang (is it necessary? - it seems most script examples have the shebang - but I'm not sure if it is a must, as the script runs without it).
I have just enabled bitlocker using a flash drive without TPM on windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Just to be prepared - is there any way I can recover data from an encrypted volume in Windows 7 ultimate.
I found links for BitLocker Repair Tool to help recover data from an encrypted volume for windows vista and windows 2008 here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928201 but did not find anything on microsoft for windows 7.
But did not find any for windows 7 Ultimate.
For a long time time I've been trying to get rid of the background noise that appears in every audio recording I make with my computer. Tried different microphones, different sound setting, drivers.
Interesting fact - the volume of this sound is equal whether I use and internal notebook microphone or an external one. I tried really good mics, so I'm sure the problem is not in it.
Laptop on which this problem appears in HP Probook 4720. OS - Windows 7.
P.S. Read an answer to a similar question: Annoying sound from microphone in headphone. Tried everything that was mentioned there. Only I don't have a "DC Offset Cancellation option". And when I disable "Noise Suppression" and "Acoustic Echo Cancellation", noise only becomes more noticeable.
What should I do?
EDIT:
Example of the background noise I'm describing: http://eos-soft.com/files/noise.wma.
I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a new machine. I installed an application using a ClickOnce installer.
The application runs fine, but I cannot access the application folder it created in c:\Program files (x86). It bombs with access denied. I try to view the properties on the folder and it takes about 1 minute to display (other folders take 1 second). It says I cannot view any information because I'm not the owner. It doesn't say who the current owner is (instead - Unable to display current owner.) but says I can take ownership. When I try it fails again with Access Denied, even though I have administrative permissions.
Why can't I access this folder nor take ownership?
Please help me how to install MySQL on Windows 7. When I tried to install, I am getting errors as:
The security settings could not be applied to the database because the connection has failed of the following errors
ERROR NR:1045
Access denied for user 'root@'localhost(using password yes).
I tried to uninstall MySQL completely and install again, but it shows this error again and again. I have changed my firewall setting also and tried unstalling antivirus sotware too. But it also did not work.
Windows 7 has a feature called "Jumplists" which, in the Start menu, adds a kind of context menu alongside the selected app listing things such as files recently or frequently used with that app, and tasks the app can perform:
Often I use Firefox's add-on IRC client, Chatzilla but use Chrome for browsing. I have to start the Firefox browser, run Chatzilla from the menua, then close the browser again.
It seems this is exactly the kind of thing Jumplists are for. Is there a way to customize them in Windows 7? Or does Firefox offer a way to customize its own Jumplists?
Is there a way to create a local user account on a Windows 7 Professional machine that stays active only for a certain length of time e.g 12 months?
The reason for doing this is we loan out laptops for 12 months to students, however some are less than prompt at bringing them back, if they were locked out of the laptop this would force them to bring the machine back in if they hoped to continue using the laptop.
Also a warning would be helpful, although I could do this with a scheduled task.
What's the Mac keyboard shortcut to rm a file? I know command + delete sends it to trash, but I want to permanently delete it, say with command + fn + delete.
UPDATE: It doesn't look like there is one. So, I want to create a service with Automator and then assign a keyboard shortcut to it from System Preferences.
I can get to Automator - Service - Service receives selected files or folders in Finder.app, but how do I write the script that then runs rm -rf #{file/folder name}?
Problem:
Occasionally, my macbook's battery will say it's charging and actually won't be. It stays at 0% for a long time.
Other info:
I thought it was my battery (laptop was 3 years old). Got a new battery. Issue did not go away.
Got a new power supply. Did not go away.
Ended up getting a unibody macbook pro. :)
(We even ended up moving to a new house).
Now still having the issue.
The only thing I can think of is my power strip, which is the only thing that has stayed constant. Is it possible for the strip to be affecting the amount of watts my macbook(s) are getting and preventing it from properly charing the battery. I think it goes in and out, the battery picks up the slack and once it's empty the computer shuts down b/c there's no power at all for a second or two.
Funny thing is I have a desktop PC on this same strip and it has never had issues with power.
Thanks! :)
I have a Logitech M510 wireless mouse and am on a Mac. Right now I can assign different actions to the 2 thumb buttons through the Logitech control panel. What I want to do is have mouse button combos to perform actions.
So if I am holding thumb button 1 and click the left button, a tab will close in Chrome. As well as any other "hold one button, click another" combination.
Is there any program out there that gives this type of customization?
Are there any computer vendors (like Dell, Lenovo, or..) that still sell laptops with an internal serial port?
We are using several modem and other kind of box at work that have to be used (and/or programmed) with serial port (RS232, DB9, ..). We tried many usb/pcmcia serial adapter which run fine when used to load programs on the boxes but not with modems. The protocol behind the RTC connection (with modem) need timer we are not able to reach when using an adapter (maybe until we find a very good adapter), and that leads to my question..
I can't seem to remove a particular song from one of my playlists, but keep it in my collection. Pressing "delete" or "command+delete" doesn't seem to do anything. Option+delete asks me if I want to remove it from my music library, which is not what I want.
help!
I'm creating an RPM package from native Python 2.5 one. Out corporate policy is to use python2.4 by default, so I'm adding a string
Requires: python25
to a .spec file. When I look at created RPM file though, i see the following dependencies:
rpm -qR -p ZSI-2.1_a1-py25.noarch.rpm
/usr/bin/python2.5
python(abi) = 2.5
python25
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
Dependency added by me is present, but other dependencies are also here.
I'm unable to provide python(abi) = 2.5 dependency, because of dumb python25 package generated by our IT department where provides tag is incorrect.
How do I remove automatically added dependencies from generated RPM?
hello

for some reason. in some cases, when i run the program, i get "Abort" message on the shell, and i can't figure out why. does anyone have an idea why this happens?
thanks
I have the following scenario:
I want to automatically backup some data from my Laptop(Fedora Core 17) to a external encrypted(luks) hard disk.
The disk can be opened by a key file, which lies on the also encrypted root partition of my laptop.
The hard disk is attached to my docking station and therefore only "present" when I am at home (which is approximately 1/2 of the time the Laptop runs)
I have everything set up the way I want it with one exception.
I don't get a decent way to mount the hard disk automatically at boot if and only if it is present.
If I add it to crypttab and fstab without noauto it tries to mount it at boot and takes a lot(!) of time and error messages when it is not present. If I add noauto, well it does not mount automatically ;)
Is there a way to configure luks/crypttab to do the following:
check whether the disk is present
if yes: decrypt/mount
if no: just don't
The wifi internet router is connected directly to Internet cable. The main Pc is attached to it via LAN cable, while 1 laptop and 3 mobile phones connect to it via wifi.
Whenever 2 or more devices connect via wifi, the internet connection breaks after one minute and internet connection resets.
I tracked this behaviour for weeks, and came to conclusion: It seems like some 'device 1' got IP then it went to suspend mode. Then 'device 2' connected to router and got the same IP. Then the 'device 1' woke up from suspend mode and tried to use his old IP. The router sees that 2 same IP addresses exists and automatically reset internet connection.
Is this possible? Have I tracked the problem correctly and how to solve it?
The router is set to lease 100 IP addresses to devices who try to connect. The password is strong and no hacker's device is being connected to my wifi network. Tried changing password and AP's name.
I installed mysql using yum install mysql on fedora 12. Now how do I start the mysql server?
[root@localhost init.d]# which mysql
/usr/bin/mysql
[root@localhost init.d]# mysql --version
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.1

OK. I have an old G5 running Leopard and a Dell running Ubuntu 10.04 at home and a MacPro also running Leopard at work.
I use Terminal.app/bash a lot. On my home G5 it exhibits a nice feature: using ? to navigate history I get the last command starting with the few letters that I've typed.
This is what I mean (| represents the caret):
$ ssh user@server
$ vim /some/file/just/to/populate/history
$ ss|
So, I've typed the two first letters of "ssh", hitting ? results in this:
$ ssh user@server
instead of this, which is the behaviour I get everywhere else :
$ vim /some/file/just/to/populate/history
If I keep on hitting ? or ?, I can navigate through the history of ssh like this:
$ ssh otheruser@otherserver
$ ssh user@server
$ ssh yetanotheruser@yetanotherserver
It works the same for any command like cat, vim or whatever.
That's really cool. Except that I have no idea how to mimic this behaviour on my other machines.
