  • Are there any Objective-C / Cocoa naming conventions for properties that are acronyms?

    - by t6d
    I have an object that models an online resource. Therefore, my object has to store the URL of the resource it belongs to. How would I name the getter and setter? MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init]; // Set values [myObject setURL:url]; myObject.URL = url; // Get values [myObject URL]; myObject.URL; or would the following be better: MyObject *myObject = [[MyObject alloc] init]; // Set values [myObject setUrl:url]; myObject.url = url; // Get values [myObject url]; myObject.url; The former example would of course require to define the property in the following way: @property (retain, getter = URL, setter = setURL:) NSURL *url;

  • Objective-c pointer assignment and reassignment dilema

    - by moshe
    Hi, If I do this: 1 NSMutableArray *near = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; 2 NSMutableArray *all = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; 3 NSMutableArray *current = near; 4 current = all; What happens to near? At line 3, am I setting current to point to the same address as near so that I now have two variables pointing to the same place in memory, or am I setting current to point to the location of near in memory such that I now have this structure: current - near - NSMutableArray The obvious difference would be the value of near at line 4. If the former is happening, near is untouched and still points to its initial place in memory. If the latter is happening,

  • Python: How can I override one module in a package with a modified version that lives outside the pa

    - by zlovelady
    I would like to update one module in a python package with my own version of the module, with the following conditions: I want my updated module to live outside of the original package (either because I don't have access to the package source, or because I want to keep my local modifications in a separate repo, etc). I want import statements that refer to original package/module to resolve to my local module Here's an example of what I'd like to do using specifics from django, because that's where this problem has arisen for me: Say this is my project structure django/ ... the original, unadulterated django package ... local_django/ conf/ settings.py myproject/ __init__.py myapp/ myfile.py And then in myfile.py # These imports should fetch modules from the original django package from django import models from django.core.urlresolvers import reverse # I would like this following import statement to grab a custom version of settings # that I define in local_django/conf/settings.py from django.conf import settings def foo(): return settings.some_setting Can I do some magic with the __import__ statement in myproject/__init__.py to accomplish this? Is there a more "pythonic" way to achieve this?

Is it enough to compute time2 - time1? Or should I put an event handler on render? Or some other way?

  • How to display and change an icon inside a python Tk Frame

    - by codingJoe
    I have a python Tkinter Frame that displays several fields. I want to also add an red/yellow/green icon that will display the status of an external device. The icon is loaded from a file called ICON_LED_RED.ico. How do I display the icon in my frame? How do I change the icon at runtime? for example replace BitmapImage('RED.ico') with BitmapImage('GREEN.ico') class Application(Frame): def init(self, master=None): Frame.__init__(self, master) self.pack() self.createWidgets() def createWidgets(self): # ...other frame code.. works just fine. self.OKBTN = Button(self) self.OKBTN["text"] = "OK" self.OKBTN["fg"] = "red" self.OKBTN["command"] = self.ok_btn_func self.OKBTN.pack({"side": "left"}) # when I add the following the frame window is not visible # The process is locked up such that I have to do a kill -9 self.statusFrame = Frame(self, bd=2, relief=RIDGE) Label(self.statusFrame, text='Status:').pack(side=LEFT, padx=5) self.statIcon = BitmapImage('data/ICON_LED_RED.ico') Label (self.statusFrame, image=self.statIcon ).grid() self.statusFrame.pack(expand=1, fill=X, pady=10, padx=5)

  • Python: How To copy function parameters into object's fields effortlessly ?

    - by bandana
    Many times I have member functions that copy parameters into object's fields. For Example: class NouveauRiches(object): def __init__(self, car, mansion, jet, bling): self.car = car self.mansion = mansion self.jet = jet self.bling = bling Is there a python language construct that would make the above code less tedious? One could use *args: def __init__(self, *args): self.car, self.mansion, self.jet, self.bling = args +: less tedious -: function signature not revealing enough. need to dive into function code to know how to use function -: does not raise a TypeError on call with wrong # of parameters (but does raise a ValueError) Any other ideas? (Whatever your suggestion, make sure the code calling the function does stays simple)

  • App stays in splash screen in iOS 7.0.3

    - by Sathish
    Recently in iOS 7.0.3, my app stays in the splash screen and was not going into the app at all. If i kill the app, and launch it again it opens up without any issues. Can anyone help me on this issue?. I think the application -didFinishLaunchingWithOptions was not returning yes. Note: I have a lot of stuffs like deleting database, initializing a dozen of buttons in appdelegate's *init* function. I know that it is a bad practice to have things in init but since its been there for more than 4 years and was working fine with previous OS versions i didn't find a good reason to change it. Also this issue is not happening all the time. My app size is 40 MB. Thanks in advance...

  • Using Nose & NoseXUnit on a Python package

    - by Wraith
    This is a previous post detailing a CI setup for Python. The asker and answerer detail the use of Nose and NoseXUnit with Hudson for their builds. However, NoseXUnit throws an error when run on any source folder where init.py is present: File "build/bdist.linux-x86_64/egg/nosexunit/tools.py", line 59, in packages nosexunit.excepts.ToolError: following folder can not contain __init__.py file: /home/dev/source/web2py/applications I can't think of a source folder of mine that is not a package also. Is there a step I am missing when dealing with NoseXUnit?

  • Confusion with cookie session token and oauth2.0 don't know where to go anymore

    - by byte_slave
    Hi guys, I'm completely confused, frustrated and nothing seems to make sense and work any more. I' dev some iframe fb app and i've been using the javascript sdk (FB.Init()) to get the access_token, but doesn't always work, sometimes i'm already logged into FB and doesn't works... Did some reading, and read also that there is problems using cookies in iframes in Opera and IE, so I was thinking in use the OAuth 2.0 but i'm not sure how via facebook sdk c# and now I'm now completely lost, don't know if i still need to use the javascript FB.Init(). Documentation out there is poor and unclear, a lot of stuff refers to old code, and after hours of reading, jumping on examples, i'm completely messed up and confused. Can some, please, point/explain/enlightening me about this? Thanks a lot guys, appreciated! Merry christmas!

  • Right design to validate attributes of a class instance

    - by systempuntoout
    Having a simple Python class like this: class Spam(object): __init__(self, description, value): self.description = description self.value = value Which is the correct approach to check these constraints: "description cannot be empty" "value must be greater than zero" Should i: 1.validate data before creating spam object ? 2.check data on __init__ method ? 3.create an is_valid method on Spam class and call it with spam.isValid() ? 4.create an is_valid static method on Spam class and call it with Spam.isValid(description, value) ? 5.check data on setters? 6.... Could you recommend a well designed\Pythonic\not verbose (on class with many attributes)\elegant approach?

  • How to add a custom loglevel to Python's logging facility

    - by tuergeist
    Hi, I'd like to have loglevel TRACE (5) for my application as I don't think that debug() is enought. Additionally log(5, msg) isn't what I want. The question is, how can I add a custom log level to a Python logger? Actually I've a mylogger.py with the following content: import logging @property def log(obj): myLogger = logging.getLogger(obj.__class__.__name__) return myLogger In my code I use it in the following way: class ExampleClass(object): from mylogger import log def __init__(self): '''The constructor with the logger''' self.log.debug("Init runs") Now I'd like to call self.log.trace("foo bar") Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to raise CComponent event in Yii

    - by srigi
    Let's assume I have Component (say Graph like Yahoo Finance) rendered on the page. Component view template contains bunch of a_hrefs which I wanto to switch period in graph. I created Event and Event handler in Component. I have two questions: How to raise event on Graph Component via those a_hrefs (should they be part of Graph?)? How to redraw Graph without loosing curent page context (section, filter - specified as $_GET values)? My Graph Component look like this: Yii::import('zii.widgets.CPortlet'); class Graph extends CPortlet { private $_period; /* ********************** * * COMPONENT PROPERTIES * * ********************** */ public function getPeriod() { return $this-_period; } public function setPeriod($period) { $this-_period = $period; } /* ********************** * * GENERIC * * ********************** */ public function init() { parent::init(); // assign event handlers $this-onPeriodChange = array($this, 'handlePeriodChange'); } protected function renderContent() { $this-render('graph'); } /* ********************** * * EVENTS * * ********************** */ public function onPeriodChange($event) { $this-raiseEvent('onPeriodChange', $event); } /* ********************** * * EVENT HANDLERS * * ********************** */ public function handlePeriodChange($event) { // CODE } }

  • threading.Event wait function not signaled when subclassing Process class

  • onPageLoad is not working properly in Firefox Extension Development

    - by Tharaka Deshan
    I am new to Firefox Extension Development and doing my 1st program. Simply I needed to pop up a alert once it loaded the page. My code was like this: var myExtension = { init: function() { if(gBrowser) gBrowser.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", this.onPageLoad, false); }, onPageLoad: function(aEvent) { alert("Loaded"); } } window.addEventListener("load", function load(event){ window.removeEventListener("load", load, false); myExtension.init(); },false); But I am getting the alert box for couple of times. Then I found about "#document" and then I added a IF condition: onPageLoad: function(aEvent) { if (aEvent.originalTarget.nodeName == '#document') { alert("Loaded"); } } Unfortunately still I am getting the same. Please advise me on this.

  • Tkinter mouse event initially triggered

    - by user3714884
    I'm currently learning Tkinter and I cannot find a solution for my problem here nor outside Stackoverflow. In a nutshell, all events that I bind to my widgets are triggered initialy and don't respond to my actions. In this example, the red rectangle appears on the canvas when I run the code, and color=random.choice(['red', 'blue']) revealed that the event binding doesn't work after that: import Tkinter as tk class application(tk.Frame): def __init__(self, master=None): tk.Frame.__init__(self, master) self.can = tk.Canvas(master, width=200, height=200) self.can.bind('<Button-2>', self.draw()) self.can.grid() def draw(self): self.can.create_rectangle(50, 50, 100, 100, fill='red') app = application() app.mainloop() I use a Mac platform, but I haven't got a clue about its role in the problem. Could anyone please point me at the mistake i did here?

  • Passing variables, creating instances, self, The mechanics and usage of classes: need explenation

    - by Baf
    I've been sitting over this the whole day and Im a little tired already so please excuse me being brief. Im new to python. I just rewrrote a working program, into a bunch of functions in a class and everzthings messed up. I dont know if its me but Im very surprised i couldn t find a beginners tutorial on how to handle classes on the web so I have a few questions. First of all, in the init section of the class i have declared a bunch of variables with self.variable=something. Is it correct that i should be able to access/modify these variables in every function of the class by using self.variable in that function? In other words by declaring self.variable i have made these variables, global variables in the scope of the class right? If not how do i handle self. ? Secondly how do i correctly pass arguments to the class? some example code would be cool. thirdly how do i call a function of the class outside of the class scope? some example code would be cool. fouthly how do I create an Instance of the class INITIALCLASS in another class OTHERCLASS, passing variables from OTHERCLASS to INITIALCLASS? some example code would be cool. I Want to call a function from OTHERCLASS with arguments from INITIALCLASS. What Ive done so far is. class OTHERCLASS(): def __init__(self,variable1,variable2,variable3): self.variable1=variable1 self.variable2=variable2 self.variable3=variable3 def someotherfunction(self): something=somecode(using self.variable3) self.variable2.append(something) print self.variable2 def somemorefunctions(self): self.variable2.append(variable1) class INITIALCLASS(): def __init__(self): self.variable1=value1 self.variable2=[] self.variable3='' self.DoIt=OTHERCLASS(variable1,variable2,variable3) def somefunction(self): variable3=Somecode #tried this self.DoIt.someotherfunctions() #and this DoIt.someotherfunctions() I clearly havent understood how to pass variables to classes or how to handle self, when to use it and when not, I probably also havent understood how to properly create an isntance of a class. In general i havent udnerstood the mechanics of classes So please help me and explain it to me like i have no Idea( which i dont it seems). Or point me to a thorough video, or readable tutorial. All i find on the web is super simple examples, that didnt help me much. Or just very short definitions of classes and class methods instances etc. I can send you my original code if you guys want, but its quite long. Thanks for the Help Much appreciated!

  • How do I dynamically define an instance variable?

    - by Moses
    Hi everyone, I have two classes (class1 and class2) that just store data, no methods. I have a third class that has an instance variable that, depending on some user input, will be set to one of the two classes. So, in the third class I declare the variable generically as NSObject *aClass; and during runtime set it to whatever it should be. aClass = [[Class1 alloc] init]; // or aClass = [[Class2 alloc] init]; However, when I try to access fields from aClass NSString *str = aClass.field1; It gives me the error: request for member 'field1' in something not a structure or a union. Field1 is declared in both class1 and class2. When I try to cast aClass aClass = (Class1 *) aClass; it gives the same error. What am I doing wrong, is there a better way to do this?

  • Set text equal to string and pass to receipt printer at a different size on iOS

    - by Max Roper
    I am using the StarIO SDK to print text to a receipt printer and I am trying to get a certain line of text larger than the rest. I have some help from their support but I can't really get it to go. -(void)print{ NSMutableString *final=[NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"-----"]; [final appendFormat:@"\n\nLevel:%@ Section:%@ Row:%@ Seat:%@", [response_dict objectForKey:@"level"], [response_dict objectForKey:@"section"],[response_dict objectForKey:@"row"],[response_dict objectForKey:@"seat"]]; There is a bunch of other stuff that is printing, but that is the line that I would like to be a different size than the rest. The StarIO support said that I should try and pass that to this... -(IBAction)PrintText { NSString *portName = [IOS_SDKViewController getPortName]; NSString *portSettings = [IOS_SDKViewController getPortSettings]; [PrinterFunctions PrintTextWithPortname:portName portSettings:portSettings heightExpansion:heightExpansion widthExpansion:widthExpansion textData:textData textDataSize:[textNSData length]]; free(textData); } Would love some help if possible. :) Thanks so much. This is the main bit I think I would need from the StarIO Text formatting doc... - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { array_hieghtExpansion = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"1"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"2"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"3"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"4"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"5"]; [array_hieghtExpansion addObject:@"6"]; array_widthExpansion = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"1"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"2"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"3"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"4"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"5"]; [array_widthExpansion addObject:@"6"]; array_alignment = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Left"]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Center"]; [array_alignment addObject:@"Right"]; } return self; } and int heightExpansion = [pickerpopup_heightExpansion getSelectedIndex]; int widthExpansion = [pickerpopup_widthExpansion getSelectedIndex];

  • python multiprocessing.Process.Manager not producing consistent results?

    - by COpython
    I've written the following code to illustrate the problem I'm seeing. I'm trying to use a Process.Manager.list() to keep track of a list and increment random indices of that list. Each time there are 100 processes spawned, and each process increments a random index of the list by 1. Therefore, one would expect the SUM of the resulting list to be the same each time, correct? I get something between 203 and 205. from multiprocessing import Process, Manager import random class MyProc(Process): def __init__(self, A): Process.__init__(self) self.A = A def run(self): i = random.randint(0, len(self.A)-1) self.A[i] = self.A[i] + 1 if __name__ == '__main__': procs = [] M = Manager() a = M.list(range(15)) print('A: {0}'.format(a)) print('sum(A) = {0}'.format(sum(a))) for i in range(100): procs.append(MyProc(a)) map(lambda x: x.start(), procs) map(lambda x: x.join(), procs) print('A: {0}'.format(a)) print('sum(A) = {0}'.format(sum(a)))
