  • Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

    - by Shiva
I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

  • Is it normal that .Net combobox postback always contains data items?

    - by BlueFox
I have a dynamically populated ComponentArt:ComboBox with Autopostback property set to true. So every time the selection changes, a postback to server would be fired. Everything seems to work fine except that the lists of all available items are also posted back to the server. from Firebug: ComboBox1_Data %3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E150%20Mile%20House%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAach%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAachen%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAaheim%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAakrehamn%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAalbeke%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAalen%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAalst%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAalter%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%C3%84%C3%A4nekoski%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarau%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarberg%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarbergen%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarburg%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarebakken%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarschot%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAarsele%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAartrijke%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAartselaar%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3E%3Cr%3E%3Cc%3EText%3C%2Fc%3E%3Cc%3EAavasaksa%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E%3C%2Fc%3E%3C%2Fr%3E ComboBox1_Input Aalst ComboBox1_SelectedIndex 7 As most my clients are using slow connections, this amount of postback has a huge impact on their user experience. Since I'm storing the viewstates in session already, there's really no need for any of the component to restore states from the client. So I'm wondering if this is normal for ComponentArt:ComboBox to do this and not other controls, or this is the normal way of doing things?

  • C# (With .NET & Visual Studio) WebForms - How can I get the title of a page ..?

    - by Ashley Davies
Prety long question; How can I do the following in C#: Open a webpage (Prefferably not visible) Check whether the page redirects to a different page (Site is down, 404, etc.) Check if the title is not equal to a said string Then seperately, (They need to click a confirm button) open their browser, and go to the adress of the first (It'll be the only one) hyperlink on the site. I literally have been looking on google for ages and haven't found anything similar to what I need. Whether you give me a link to a site with a tutorial on this area of programming or actual source code doesn't make a difference to me.

  • How can I handle all my errors/messages in one place on an Asp.Net page?

    - by Atomiton
Hi all, I'm looking for some guidance here. On my site I put things in Web user controls. For example, I will have a NewsItem Control, an Article Control, a ContactForm control. These will appear in various places on my site. What I'm looking for is a way for these controls to pass messages up to the Page that they exist on. I don't want to tightly couple them, so I think I will have to do this with Events/Delegates. I'm a little unclear as to how I would implement this, though. A couple of examples: 1 A contact form is submitted. After it's submitted, instead of replacing itself with a "Your mail has been sent" which limits the placement of that message, I'd like to just notify the page that the control is on with a Status message and perhaps a suggested behaviour. So, a message would include the text to render as well as an enum like DisplayAs.Popup or DisplayAs.Success 2 An Article Control queries the database for an Article object. Database returns an Exception. Custom Exception is passed to the page along with the DisplayAs.Error enum. The page handles this error and displays it wherever the errors go. I'm trying to accomplish something similar to the ValidationSummary Control, except that I want the page to be able to display the messages as the enum feels fit. Again, I don't want to tightly bind or rely a control existing on the Page. I want the controls to raise these events, but the page can ignore them if it wants. Am I going about this the right way? I'd love a code sample just to get me started. I know this is a more involved question, so I'll wait longer before voting/choosing the answers.

  • How do I deserialize a namespaced element to an object in .net?

    - by pc1oad1etter
Given this XML snippet: ... <InSide:setHierarchyUpdates> <automaticUpdateInterval>5</automaticUpdateInterval> <shouldRunAutomaticUpdates>true<shouldRunAutomaticUpdates> </InSide:setHierarchyUpdates> ... I am attempting to serialize this object: Imports System.Xml.Serialization <XmlRoot(ElementName:="setHierarchyUpdates", namespace:="InSide")> _ Public Class HierarchyUpdate <XmlElement(ElementName:="shouldRunAutomaticUpdates")> _ Public shouldRunAutomaticUpdates As Boolean <XmlElement(ElementName:="automaticUpdateInterval")> _ Public automaticUpdateInterval As Integer End Class Like this: Dim hierarchyUpdater As New HierarchyUpdate Dim x As New XmlSerializer(hierarchyUpdater.GetType) Dim objReader As Xml.XmlNodeReader = New Xml.XmlNodeReader(myXMLNode) hierarchyUpdater = x.Deserialize(objReader) However, the object, after deserialization, has values of false and zero. If I switch the objReader to a streamreader and read this in as a file, with none of its parents and no namespaces, it works: <setHierarchyUpdates> <automaticUpdateInterval>5</automaticUpdateInterval> <shouldRunAutomaticUpdates>true<shouldRunAutomaticUpdates> </setHierarchyUpdates> What am I doing wrong? Should I use something other than XMLRoot in the class definition, because, as an XML node, it's not really the root? If so, what? Why are no errors returned when this fails?

  • Asp.Net (C#) MVC Routing - Trying avoid using the same controller in different places and think rout

    - by sheefy
Hi Guys, I'm currently building a site which has a bunch of main categories and in each category you can perform a search. Basically, I want my addresses to work like this... When the website loads (as in when someone goes to www.mySite.com) it will redirect them to the default category. www.mySite.com/Category Then when you search within a category, the results would come up in a page like the following. www.mySite.com/Category/Search I want to put everything in one controller and have one main view for the Category and one for the Search, I would then render these based on which category is currently being viewed. Can this be done, maybe with routing? I don't want to have to create a different controller for each category as it's just duplicating a lot of the code. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Why isn't this infinite recursion? How does default variable initialization work in VB.NET?

    - by froadie
I just made an interesting mistake in my code: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + endColumn - 1 The code was actually supposed to be: Dim endColumn As Integer = startColumn + numColumns - 1 The interesting thing is, I would think that this code should be recursive and loop indefinitely, as the initialization of endColumn sort of calls itself. However, it seems that the code just treats the uninitialized variable as a 0 and so I get startColumn + 0 - 1. What is happening here behind the scenes? When does a variable get assigned a default value?

  • Is it a good practice to perform direct database access in the code-behind of an ASP.NET page?

    - by patricks418
Hi, I am an experienced developer but I am new to web application development. Now I am in charge of developing a new web application and I could really use some input from experienced web developers out there. I'd like to understand exactly what experienced web developers do in the code-behind pages. At first I thought it was best to have a rule that all the database access and business logic should be performed in classes external to the code-behind pages. My thought was that only logic necessary for the web form would be performed in the code-behind. I still think that all the business logic should be performed in other classes but I'm beginning to think it would be alright if the code-behind had access to the database to query it directly rather than having to call other classes to receive a dataset or collection back. Any input would be appreciated.

  • How to stream audio from ASP.NET MVC controller when it's still encoding?

    - by kyrisu
Background I have wave files on my server that I want to stream. Because of the size I want to encode them to mp3. I've tried to use FileStreamResult - but it doesn't work because as soon as program leaves the controller stream is closed and I get - "Cannot access a closed stream" FileContentResult - but it's not a stream and the user would need to wait for encoding to finish Question Is there a way to stream audio from the controller while it's still encoding?

  • IoC Dependancy injection into Custom HTTP Module - how? (ASP.NET)

    - by Sosh
Hi, I have a custom HTTP Module. I would like to inject the logger using my IoC framework, so I can log errors in the module. However, of course I don't get a constructor, so can't inject it into that. What's the best way to go about this? If you need the specific IoC container - I'm currently using Windsor, but may soon move to AutoFac. Thanks

  • How to run a javascript function before postback of asp.net button?

    - by Curtis White
I'm using Javascript to create a DIV element and open up a new page by using onclientclick. This works great. Now, I need to write to it from the server side and this element must be created before it is posted back. How do I get the javascript to execute before the postback? Currently, I have to press the button twice because the element doesn't exist to write too on the first click. To be clear, I need this to execute before the "OnClick" of the button. Update: It looks like the Javascript function is called before the postback but the element is not updated until I run the second postback. Hmm Update: Unfortunately it is a bit more complicated then this. I'm creating a div tag in javascript to open a new window. Inside the div tag, I'm using a databinding syntax <%=Preview% so that I can get access to this element on the server side. From the server side, I'm injecting the code. I'm thinking this may be a chicken-egg problem but not sure. UPDATE! It is not the Javascript not running first. It is the databinding mechanism which is reading the blank variable before I'm able to set it. Hmm

  • In .NET, How do I separate xml from compiled resource file?

    - by Brandon
We have a customer that would like to modify application user messages that we store in .resx files. I'm thinking this can't be done since the xml file behind the .resx is embedded in a compiled dll. Am I correct? Or, is there a way keep the xml outside of the compiled dll? I realize this can easily be done by other means but I like the ease of the resx file--the classes/properties are created for you.

  • How do I run asynchronous code in asp.net mvc 2?

    - by SLC
I tried this: BackgroundWorker bw = new BackgroundWorker(); bw.DoWork += (o, e) => { SendConfEmail(); }; bw.RunWorkerAsync(); but it didn't work. SendConfEmail takes a while to run. I guess it's because BackgroundWorker is designed for winforms not webforms. Any ideas how I can solve the problem?

  • How to retrieve ID of button clicked within usercontrol on Asp.net page?

    - by Shawn Gilligan
    I have a page that I am working on that I'm linking multiple user controls to. The user control contains 3 buttons, an attach, clear and view button. When a user clicks on any control on the page, the resulting information is "dumped" into the last visible control on the page. <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="Default" MasterPageFile="DefaultPage.master" %> <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="ajaxToolkit" %> <%@ Register tagName="FileHandler" src="FileHandling.ascx" tagPrefix="ucFile" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="Main" Runat="Server"> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upPanel" UpdateMode="Conditional" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <table> <tr> <td> <ucFile:FileHandler ID="fFile1" runat="server" /> </td> <td> <ucFile:FileHandler ID="fFile2" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> </table> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </asp:Content> All file handling and processing is handled within the control, with an event when the upload to the file server is complete via a file name that was generated. When either button is clicked, the file name is always stored internal to the control in the last control's text box. Control code: <table style="width: 50%;"> <tr style="white-space: nowrap;"> <td style="width: 1%;"> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="lblFile" /> </td> <td style="width: 20%;"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtFile" CssClass="backColor" runat="server" OnTextChanged="FileInformationChanged" /> </td> <td style="width: 1%"> <%--<asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnUpload" CssClass="btn" Text="Attach" OnClick="UploadFile"/>--%> <input type="button" id="btnUpload" class="btn" tabindex="30" value="Attach" onclick="SetupUpload();" /> </td> <td style="width: 1%"> <%--<asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnClear" Text="Clear" CssClass="btn" OnClick="ClearTextValue"/>--%> <input type="button" id="btnClearFile" class="btn" value="Clear" onclick="document.getElementById('<%=txtFile.ClientID%>').value = '';document.getElementById('<%=hfFile.ClientID%>').value = '';" /> </td> <td style="width: 1%"> <a href="#here" onclick="ViewLink(document.getElementById('<%=hfFile.ClientID%>').value, '')">View</a> </td> <td style="width: 1%"> <asp:HiddenField ID="hfFile" runat="server" /> </td> </tr> </table> <script type="text/javascript"> var ItemPath = ""; function SetupUpload(File) { ItemPath = File; VersionAttach('<%=UploadPath%>', 'true'); } function UploadComplete(File) { document.getElementById('<%=txtFile.ClientID%>').value = File.substring(File.lastIndexOf("/") + 1); document.getElementById('<%=hfFile.ClientID%>').value = File; alert('<%=txtFile.Text %>'); alert('<%=ClientID %>') } function ViewLink(File, Alert) { if (File != "") { if (File.indexOf("../data/") != -1) { window.open(File, '_blank'); } else { window.open('../data/<%=UploadPath%>/' + File, '_blank'); } } else if (Alert == "") { alert('No file has been uploaded for this field.'); } } </script>
