  It took me a while to find out that with ubuntu-one I can sync only folders in my home-folder. On all other folders the ubuntu-one - option is available in preferences, but the actual actions are greyed out. The ubuntu-faq is quite clear on that: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/FAQ/CanISyncAFolderOutsideMyHomeFolder But I actually wonder why and if this is going to change and if there is a trick around it (an other one than setting my home to /) I personally dont have any important data in my home-folder other than the program-configs. All documents, pictures, music are on a folder called /data that is actually on a different partition. That makes it much easier when one wants to reinstall ubuntu.

  I would like to know what is the parameters to be considered while developing a crawler like that of Screaming Frog. Am looking forward for information on do's and dont's of webpage crawling. What are the problems the crawler may infuse on the webpages like loadtime (maybe?) or anything that effects webpage during crawling. What are the rules the crawler needs to follow etc. Basically anything info that makes the crawler look good and accurate. Just point me in a right direction to achieve it..   I'm working on an adventure game in win32 and opengl for my 2nd year university project for class. I am pretty much finished my game but I'm stuck on the concept of how to program a timer which outputs hh : mm : ss -- but which countdown, not up. I've made a clock which counts up using vector matrices and the segxseg matrix algorithm but I cannot figure out how to make a clock (it can be simple even text using wsprintf) that counts down in that format. Can anyone possible give me an example or some literature that I can read on how to do this? Please dont suggest for me to use another environment, I've already been working here for 2 months on this game, and I'm pretty much done so i'm at no point to switch over. Can anyone show me how I can take a shot at this component of my project? Thanks a bunch! Anything that I can get is appreciated.

  I am using Windows 7 64bit as host system and i have installed ubuntu 12.04.1 in virtual box as stated above. I have a dsl connection which works well on my host system and now I need to access the same connection on my guest ubuntu. I cant see any such settings in ubuntu. I am total biginner and dont know anything about linux. Win 7 is showing unknown network. Please guide me from the scratch. Thank you.

• Nvidia Fullscreen Metanode "Sliding" Issue

  i have 2 monitors, the left one is my "main" monitor with 1920x1080_120, the right one my second with 1680x1050_60. (i have a nvidia card setup with twinview) when i play a game or something in fullscreen mode, the full resolution is used in fullscreen (monitor 1 + monitor 2). i read something about the metanodes i can use to shut down the one monitor that i dont need durning a "fullscreen session". i used the following: Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: 1920x1080_120 +0+0, DFP-2: 1680x1050_60 +1920+0; DFP: 1920x1080_120 +0+0, NULL" Its working great, the second (right) monitor is shutting down when i press "CTRL ALT +" and is starting agin when i press the same keystroke. But in the second mode when the second monitor is "down", i got the full "monitor 1 + monitor 2" resolution on my first (left) monitor, i can move my mouse to the right to see the contents of the second monitor and move it again to the left to the what is normally seen on the first monitor. Its something sliding between the 2 monitors on one display. How can i avoid this?

  When I try to go to a virtual console (ctrl alt f1) and return to f7, my screen freaks out. Its black with frequent white 'lightning bolts' flashing across the screen. Nothing works, but to force shutdown. Same when trying to resume from suspend. This doesnt happen every time, but very often. I dont know what information might be useful but: Ubuntu 12.10 ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880 this line in xsession-errors might be pertinent: (gnome-settings-daemon:1825): color-plugin-WARNING **: Done switch to new account, reload devices p.s. Ive tried the fglrx drivers but need the legacy drivers as described here, but nothing past a black screen.

  Is there any way to use an iPad mini or a Nexus 7 as a second monitor through a cable? I dont want something like vnc, I need it to work through the usb cable (or any other cable). I imagine that the iPad will get a lot of hate around here, the reason why I am considering it is because of the larger screen (compared to the nexus 7). I think its self explanatory that I need this to work with ubuntu (as I am posting in this formum). • PLEASE HELP! Cannot login to server after file permissions change!

  So, I did something really stupid. Please bear with me as I am new to ubuntu server. I ran chmod -R 700 / when I was logged in as root. Now when I try to login as my normal user I immediately get kicked out. Is there anyway to log back in to the server whether it is root or whoever so that I can change the permissions? or am I totally screwed? I dont think I have root access enabled in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. I do have physical access to the server. I really need some help here. Thanks in advance!

  I am developing a forum for a research project, i am using Vanilla forum (though i am not tied to this yet). Another feature of this site will be a personal journal/diary/blog. Only the user and administrators will have access to the journal. The journal does not need any advanced features. Does anybody have any suggestions on software/script that could easily be integrated with Vanilla forum for this purpose? My first thought was using Wordpress but it is a bit to complex to adminstrate as the site is meant to be simple. And i dont really see how it can be intregrated easily the way i want it.

  I have a question about Software Architecture, anyone can help me or give me some hints currently, I have a J2EE project which deploys in a server, I should a Java Standard project(J2SE) should run 24 hours x 7 days to monitor something it could not run separately, because the Java Project shared the some same classes such as Java Bean classes with the J2EE project maybe my design is not correct, can anyone suggest me what should I do? Using SOA? is this correct? my current solution is run this java project using a bash, but I dont think it is then best idea.   im working on a proyect with kinect sdk and xna 4.0. i need take the position of the hands and draw a sprite over it. im doing it directly and, because of that, i get a "trembling hands" effect. so, i was thinking on make the sprite move from the previous position to the new one, given in every frame by the new hand position. this way, the sprite does not jump from one position to another. this is working just fine, but im using a constant value for the velocity, and i really would like to use a variable velocity given by the difference between the prev and the new position. this is, if the hand move more quickly in the reality, the velocity will be higher. I really dont have a clue on how to make this works. can somebody point me in the right direction? thanks.
