  • What should I do or don't do to avoid Delphi "push dword" bug.

    - by Maksee
I found that Delphi 5 generates invalid assembly code in specific cases. I can't understand in what cases in general. The example below produces access violation since a very strange optimization occurs. For a byte in a record or array Delphi generates push dword [...], pop ebx, mov .., bl that works correctly if there are data after this byte (we need at least three to push dword correctly), but fails if the data is inaccessible. I emulated the strict boundaries here with win32 Virtual* functions Specifically the error occurs when the last byte from the block accessed inside FeedBytesToClass procedure. And if I try to change something like using data array instead of object property of remove actionFlag variable, Delphi generates correct assembly instructions. const BlockSize = 4096; type TSomeClass = class private fBytes: PByteArray; public property Bytes: PByteArray read fBytes; constructor Create; destructor Destroy;override; end; constructor TSomeClass.Create; begin inherited Create; GetMem(fBytes, BlockSize); end; destructor TSomeClass.Destroy; begin FreeMem(fBytes); inherited; end; procedure FeedBytesToClass(SrcDataBytes: PByteArray; Count: integer); var j: integer; Ofs: integer; actionFlag: boolean; AClass: TSomeClass; begin AClass:=TSomeClass.Create; try actionFlag:=true; for j:=0 to Count-1 do begin Ofs:=j; if actionFlag then begin AClass.Bytes[Ofs]:=SrcDataBytes[j]; end; end; finally AClass.Free; end; end; procedure TForm31.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var SrcDataBytes: PByteArray; begin SrcDataBytes:=VirtualAlloc(Nil, BlockSize, MEM_COMMIT, PAGE_READWRITE); try if VirtualLock(SrcDataBytes, BlockSize) then try FeedBytesToClass(SrcDataBytes, BlockSize); finally VirtualUnLock(SrcDataBytes, BlockSize); end; finally VirtualFree(SrcDataBytes, MEM_DECOMMIT, BlockSize); end; end; Initially the error occured when I used access to RGB data of bitmap bits, but the code there is too complex so I narrowed it to this fragment. So the question is what is here so specific that makes Delphi produce push, pop, mov optimization. I need to know this in order to avoid such side effects in general.

  • Problem with Keyboard hook proc

    - by Steve
    The background: My form has a TWebBrowser. I want to close the form with ESC but the TWebBrowser eats the keystrokes - so I decided to go with a keyboard hook. The problem is that the Form can be open in multiple instances at the same time. No matter what I do, in some situations, if there are two instances open of my form, closing one of them closes the other as well. I've attached some sample code. Any ideas on what causes the issue? var EmailDetailsForm: TEmailDetailsForm; KeyboardHook: HHook; implementation function KeyboardHookProc(Code: Integer; wParam, lParam: LongInt): LongInt; stdcall; var hWnd: THandle; I: Integer; F: TForm; begin if Code < 0 then Result := CallNextHookEx(KeyboardHook, Code, wParam, lParam) else begin case wParam of VK_ESCAPE: if (lParam and $80000000) <> $00000000 then begin hWnd := GetForegroundWindow; for I := 0 to Screen.FormCount - 1 do begin F := Screen.Forms[I]; if F.Handle = hWnd then if F is TEmailDetailsForm then begin PostMessage(hWnd, WM_CLOSE, 0, 0); Result := HC_SKIP; break; end; end; //for end; //if else Result := CallNextHookEx(KeyboardHook, Code, wParam, lParam); end; //case end; //if end; function TEmailDetailsForm.CheckInstance: Boolean; var I, J: Integer; F: TForm; begin Result := false; J := 0; for I := 0 to Screen.FormCount - 1 do begin F := Screen.Forms[I]; if F is TEmailDetailsForm then begin J := J + 1; if J = 2 then begin Result := true; break; end; end; end; end; procedure TEmailDetailsForm.FormCreate(Sender: TObject); begin if not CheckInstance then KeyboardHook := SetWindowsHookEx(WH_KEYBOARD, @KeyboardHookProc, 0, GetCurrentThreadId()); end; procedure TEmailDetailsForm.FormDestroy(Sender: TObject); begin if not CheckInstance then UnHookWindowsHookEx(KeyboardHook); end;

  • Optimize SQL databases by adding index columns

    - by Viktor Sehr
This might be implementation specific so the question regards how SQL databases is generally implemented. Say I have a database looking like this; Product with columns [ProductName] [Price] [Misc] [Etc] Order with columns [OrderID] [ProductName] [Quantity] [Misc] [Etc] ProductName is primary key of Product, of some string type and unique. OrderID is primary key and of some integer type, and ProductName being a foreign key. Say I change the primary key of Product to a new column of integer type ie [ProductID] Would this reduce the database size and optimize lookups joining these two tables (and likewise operations), or are these optimizations performed automatically by (most/general/main) SQL database implementations?

  • Implementing EAV pattern with Hibernate for User -> Settings relationship

    - by Trevor
I'm trying to setup a simple EAV pattern in my web app using Java/Spring MVC and Hibernate. I can't seem to figure out the magic behind the hibernate XML setup for this scenario. My database table "SETUP" has three columns: user_id (FK) setup_item setup_value The database composite key is made up of user_id | setup_item Here's the Setup.java class: public class Setup implements CommonFormElements, Serializable { private Map data = new HashMap(); private String saveAction; private Integer speciesNamingList; private User user; Logger log = LoggerFactory.getLogger(Setup.class); public String getSaveAction() { return saveAction; } public void setSaveAction(String action) { this.saveAction = action; } public User getUser() { return user; } public void setUser(User user) { this.user = user; } public Integer getSpeciesNamingList() { return speciesNamingList; } public void setSpeciesNamingList(Integer speciesNamingList) { this.speciesNamingList = speciesNamingList; } public Map getData() { return data; } public void setData(Map data) { this.data = data; } } My problem with the Hibernate setup, is that I can't seem to figure out how to map out the fact that a foreign key and the key of a map will construct the composite key of the table... this is due to a lack of experience using Hibernate. Here's my initial attempt at getting this to work: <composite-id> <key-many-to-one foreign-key="id" name="user" column="user_id" class="Business.User"> <meta attribute="use-in-equals">true</meta> </key-many-to-one> </composite-id> <map lazy="false" name="data" table="setup"> <key column="user_id" property-ref="user"/> <composite-map-key class="Command.Setup"> <key-property name="data" column="setup_item" type="string"/> </composite-map-key> <element column="setup_value" not-null="true" type="string"/> </map> Any insight into how to properly map this common scenario would be most appreciated!

  • PLPGSQL : Return a record from function executed by INSERT/UPDATE rule

    - by seas
Do the following scheme for my database: create sequence data_sequence; create table data_table { id integer primary key; field varchar(100); }; create view data_view as select id, field from data_table; create function data_insert(_new data_view) returns data_view as $$declare _id integer; _result data_view%rowtype; begin _id := nextval('data_sequence'); insert into data_table(id, field) values(_id, _new.field); select * into _result from data_view where id = _id; return _result; end; $$ language plpgsql; create rule insert as on insert to data_view do instead select data_insert(new); Then type in psql: insert into data_view(field) values('abc'); Would like to see something like: id | field ----+--------- 1 | abc Instead see: data_insert ------------- (1, "abc") Is it possible to fix this somehow? Thanks for any ideas.

  • Windows Service HTTPListener Memory Issue

    - by crawshaws
Hi all, Im a complete novice to the "best practices" etc of writing in any code. I tend to just write it an if it works, why fix it. Well, this way of working is landing me in some hot water. I am writing a simple windows service to server a single webpage. (This service will be incorperated in to another project which monitors the services and some folders on a group of servers.) My problem is that whenever a request is recieved, the memory usage jumps up by a few K per request and keeps qoing up on every request. Now ive found that by putting GC.Collect in the mix it stops at a certain number but im sure its not meant to be used this way. I was wondering if i am missing something or not doing something i should to free up memory. Here is the code: Public Class SimpleWebService : Inherits ServiceBase 'Set the values for the different event log types. Public Const EVENT_ERROR As Integer = 1 Public Const EVENT_WARNING As Integer = 2 Public Const EVENT_INFORMATION As Integer = 4 Public listenerThread As Thread Dim HTTPListner As HttpListener Dim blnKeepAlive As Boolean = True Shared Sub Main() Dim ServicesToRun As ServiceBase() ServicesToRun = New ServiceBase() {New SimpleWebService()} ServiceBase.Run(ServicesToRun) End Sub Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args As String()) If Not HttpListener.IsSupported Then CreateEventLogEntry("Windows XP SP2, Server 2003, or higher is required to " & "use the HttpListener class.") Me.Stop() End If Try listenerThread = New Thread(AddressOf ListenForConnections) listenerThread.Start() Catch ex As Exception CreateEventLogEntry(ex.Message) End Try End Sub Protected Overrides Sub OnStop() blnKeepAlive = False End Sub Private Sub CreateEventLogEntry(ByRef strEventContent As String) Dim sSource As String Dim sLog As String sSource = "Service1" sLog = "Application" If Not EventLog.SourceExists(sSource) Then EventLog.CreateEventSource(sSource, sLog) End If Dim ELog As New EventLog(sLog, ".", sSource) ELog.WriteEntry(strEventContent) End Sub Public Sub ListenForConnections() HTTPListner = New HttpListener HTTPListner.Prefixes.Add("http://*:1986/") HTTPListner.Start() Do While blnKeepAlive Dim ctx As HttpListenerContext = HTTPListner.GetContext() Dim HandlerThread As Thread = New Thread(AddressOf ProcessRequest) HandlerThread.Start(ctx) HandlerThread = Nothing Loop HTTPListner.Stop() End Sub Private Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal ctx As HttpListenerContext) Dim sb As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder sb.Append("<html><body><h1>Test My Service</h1>") sb.Append("</body></html>") Dim buffer() As Byte = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(sb.ToString) ctx.Response.ContentLength64 = buffer.Length ctx.Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length) ctx.Response.OutputStream.Close() ctx.Response.Close() sb = Nothing buffer = Nothing ctx = Nothing 'This line seems to keep the mem leak down 'System.GC.Collect() End Sub End Class Please feel free to critisise and tear the code apart but please BE KIND. I have admitted I dont tend to follow the best practice when it comes to coding.

  • PostgreSQL and PHP forms

    - by MrEnder
Ok I have a PostgreSQL server with a Database titled brittains_db that I only have PuTTY access to. I can also upload via FTP to the web server which has access to PostgreSQL and the Database somehow... I have made a SQL file named logins.sql CREATE TABLE logins( userName VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, password VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL, firstName NOT NULL, lastName NOT NULL, ageDay INTEGER NOT NULL, ageMonth INTEGER NOT NULL, ageYear INTEGER NOT NULL, email VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, createDate DATE ) Then I made a form to get all that information. <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post" > <table> <tr> <td class="signupTd"> First Name:&nbsp; </td> <td> <input type="text" name="firstNameSignupForm" value="<?php echo $firstNameSignup; ?>" size="20"/> </td> <td> <?php echo $firstNameSignupError; ?> </td> </tr> ... code continues I had it save all the information in variables if page run on POST $firstNameSignup=trim($_POST["firstNameSignupForm"]); $lastNameSignup=trim($_POST["lastNameSignupForm"]); $userNameSignup=trim($_POST["userNameSignupForm"]); $passwordSignup=trim($_POST["passwordSignupForm"]); $passwordConfirmSignup=trim($_POST["passwordConfirmSignupForm"]); $monthSignup=trim($_POST["monthSignupForm"]); $daySignup=trim($_POST["daySignupForm"]); $yearSignup=trim($_POST["yearSignupForm"]); $emailSignup=trim($_POST["emailSignupForm"]); $emailConfirmSignup=trim($_POST["emailConfirmSignupForm"]); All information was then validated Now comes the points where I need to upload it to PostgreSQL How do I put my table in Postgre? How do I insert my information into my table? and how would I recall that information to display it?

  • What calendar appears to count days since december 28, 1800?

    - by Sander Marechal
Hello, I have been tasked to read in some data from some weird old system. The system contains many dates but they are all oddly formatted. They are integer numbers ranging from approximately 55,000 to 80,000. I know two dates for certain: 58,112 equals February 2, 1960 61,439 equals March 16, 1969 It appears to me that those integer numbers are the number of days elapsed since December 28, 1800. But I think that's a very strange date to start a calendar on. There is probably going something on with leap years and what-not that is doing to bite me in the ass later on. Does anyone recognise this calendar? Can anyone tell me what the proper way is to convert those integers to human readable dates? Thanks in advance!

  • Fortran recursion segmentation faults

    - by ConnorG
Hey all - I have to design and implement a Fortran routine to determine the size of clusters on a square lattice, and it seemed extremely convenient to code the subroutine recursively. However, whenever my lattice size grows beyond a certain value (around 200/side), the subroutine consistently segfaults. Here's my cluster-detection routine: RECURSIVE SUBROUTINE growCluster(lattice, adj, idx, area) INTEGER, INTENT(INOUT) :: lattice(:), area INTEGER, INTENT(IN) :: adj(:,:), idx lattice(idx) = -1 area = area + 1 IF (lattice(adj(1,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(1,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(2,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(2,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(3,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(3,idx),area) IF (lattice(adj(4,idx)).GT.0) & CALL growCluster(lattice,adj,adj(4,idx),area) END SUBROUTINE growCluster where adj(1,n) represents the north neighbor of site n, adj(2,n) represents the west and so on. What would cause the erratic segfault behavior? Is the cluster just "too huge" for large lattice sizes?

  • GMP variable's bit size..

    - by kishorebjv
How to know the size of a declared variable in GMP??or how can we decide the size of an integer in GMP? mpz_random(temp,1); in manual it is given that this function allocates 1limb(=32bits for my comp) size to the "temp".... but it is having 9 digit number only.. SO i dont think that 32 bit size number holds only 9 digits number.. So please help me to know the size of integer variable in GMP .. thanks in adv..

  • Csharp component which generates fragments with highlights for diffs for 2 strings

    - by MicMit
I need C# implementation ( ideally open source ) which is similar to Delphi DLL. I am currently using the wrapper ( C# syntax is provided , but it is a call from a different language ) zdiff( string ref str1, string ref str2, int range , int trim ) it calls inside str1 = GetHiDiff(@str1,1,trim) str2 = GetHiDiff(@str1,2,trim) where function GetHiDiff(s:pchar; sIndex:integer; wtrim:integer): pchar; stdcall; What it does it returns a left fragment html of str1 and a right html fragment of str2 with diffs highlighted as strings are passed by reference. Range parameter determines the size of html fragment. Not sure what trim 0 does.

  • Python Random Question

    - by coson
Good Day, I am using Python 2.6 and am trying to run a simple random number generator program (random.py): import random for i in range(5): # random float: 0.0 <= number < 1.0 print random.random(), # random float: 10 <= number < 20 print random.uniform(10, 20), # random integer: 100 <= number <= 1000 print random.randint(100, 1000), # random integer: even numbers in 100 <= number < 1000 print random.randrange(100, 1000, 2) I'm now receiving the following error: C:\Users\Developer\Documents\PythonDemo>python random.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "random.py", line 3, in <module> import random File "C:\Users\Developer\Documents\PythonDemo\random.py", line 8, in <module> print random.random(), TypeError: 'module' object is not callable C:\Users\Developer\Documents\PythonDemo> I've looked at the Python docs and this version of Python supports random. Is there something else I'm missing? TIA, coson

  • MemSet & MemCopy

    - by pws5068
I'm writing a memory allocator, and I need a way to store an integer inside of a chunk of memory. This integer will represent the size of the block so I can navigate to the end given the pointer to the beginning. Here's my test example: head_ptr = (char*) malloc(4*1024*1024); // Allocate 4MB memset(head_ptr,12345,sizeof(int)); // Set Address head_ptr = 12345 memcpy(testInt,head_ptr,sizeof(int)); // Set testInt = head_ptr printf("testInt = %i",testInt); This throws a segmentation fault on the second to last line. Does what I'm trying to do make sense? If so, what is the correct approach?

  • Handling Exceptions for ThreadPoolExecutor

    - by HonorGod
    I have the following code snippet that basically scans through the list of task that needs to be executed and each task is then given to the executor for execution. The JobExecutor intern creates another executor (for doing db stuff...reading and writing data to queue) and completes the task. JobExecutor returns a Future for the tasks submitted. When one of the task fails, I want to gracefully interrupt all the threads and shutdown the executor by catching all the exceptions. What changes do I need to do? public class DataMovingClass { private static final AtomicInteger uniqueId = new AtomicInteger(0); private static final ThreadLocal<Integer> uniqueNumber = new IDGenerator(); ThreadPoolExecutor threadPoolExecutor = null ; private List<Source> sources = new ArrayList<Source>(); private static class IDGenerator extends ThreadLocal<Integer> { @Override public Integer get() { return uniqueId.incrementAndGet(); } } public void init(){ // load sources list } public boolean execute() { boolean succcess = true ; threadPoolExecutor = new ThreadPoolExecutor(10,10, 10, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new ArrayBlockingQueue<Runnable>(1024), new ThreadFactory() { public Thread newThread(Runnable r) { Thread t = new Thread(r); t.setName("DataMigration-" + uniqueNumber.get()); return t; }// End method }, new ThreadPoolExecutor.CallerRunsPolicy()); List<Future<Boolean>> result = new ArrayList<Future<Boolean>>(); for (Source source : sources) { result.add(threadPoolExecutor.submit(new JobExecutor(source))); } for (Future<Boolean> jobDone : result) { try { if (!jobDone.get(100000, TimeUnit.SECONDS) && success) { // in case of successful DbWriterClass, we don't need to change // it. success = false; } } catch (Exception ex) { // handle exceptions } } } public class JobExecutor implements Callable<Boolean> { private ThreadPoolExecutor threadPoolExecutor ; Source jobSource ; public SourceJobExecutor(Source source) { this.jobSource = source; threadPoolExecutor = new ThreadPoolExecutor(10,10,10, TimeUnit.SECONDS, new ArrayBlockingQueue<Runnable>(1024), new ThreadFactory() { public Thread newThread(Runnable r) { Thread t = new Thread(r); t.setName("Job Executor-" + uniqueNumber.get()); return t; }// End method }, new ThreadPoolExecutor.CallerRunsPolicy()); } public Boolean call() throws Exception { boolean status = true ; System.out.println("Starting Job = " + jobSource.getName()); try { // do the specified task ; }catch (InterruptedException intrEx) { logger.warn("InterruptedException", intrEx); status = false ; } catch(Exception e) { logger.fatal("Exception occurred while executing task "+jobSource.getName(),e); status = false ; } System.out.println("Ending Job = " + jobSource.getName()); return status ; } } }

  • TreeMap not properly returning values

    - by smessing
I have the following TreeMap: TreeMap<String, Integer> distances = new TreeMap<String, Integer>(); and it contains both strings, "Face" and "Foo", with appropriate values, such that: System.out.println(distances); Yields: {Face=12, Foo=2} However, distances.get(Face) returns null, even though distances.get(Foo) properly returns 2. Previously, distances.get(Face) worked, but for some reason, it stopped working. Note I print out the map right before calling get() for both keys, so I haven't accidentally changed Face's value to null. Has anyone else every encountered this problem? Is there anything I can do? I'm having a terrible time simply trying to figure out how to debug this problem.

  • VirtualTreeView add roots with Threads

    - by Benjamin Weiss
I would like to add roots to a VirtualTreeView http://www.delphi-gems.com/index.php/controls/virtual-treeview with a thread like this: function AddRoot ( p : TForm1 ) : Integer; stdcall; begin p.VirtualStringTree1.AddChild(NIL); end; var Dummy : DWORD; i : Integer; begin for i := 0 to 2000 do begin CloseHandle(CreateThread(NIL,0, @ADDROOT, Self,0, Dummy)); end; end; The reason for this is that I want to add all connections from my INDY Server to the TreeView. Indy's onexecute/onconnect get's called as a thread. So if 3+ connections come in at the same time the app crashes due to the TreeView. Same is if a client gets disconnected and I want to delete the Node. I am using Delphi7 and Indy9 Any Idea how to fix that?

  • Should primitive types or non-primitive types be preferred in Java interfaces?

    - by Greg Mattes
(I thought I once read something about this in a book, but now I'm not sure where to find it. If this question reminds you of some material that you've read, please post a reference!) What are the pros and the cons of primitives in interfaces? In other words, is one of these preferable to the other and why? Perhaps one is preferable to the other in certain contexts? public interface Foo { int getBar(); } or public interface Foo { Integer getBar(); } Similarly: public interface Boz { void someOperation(int parameter); } or public interface Boz { void someOperation(Integer parameter); } Obviously there's the issue of having to deal with nulls in the non-primitive case, but are there deeper concerns?
