  • why IEEE floating point number calculate exponent using a biased form?

    - by lenatis
let's say, for the float type in c, according to the IEEE floating point specification, there are 8-bit used for the fraction filed, and it is calculated as first taken these 8-bit and translated it into an unsigned number, and then minus the BIASE, which is 2^7 - 1 = 127, and the result is an exponent ranges from -127 to 128, inclusive. But why can't we just treat these 8-bit pattern as a signed number, since the resulting range is [-128,127], which is almost the same as the previous one.

  • PHPFOG and MySql

    - by jim dif
I am playing around with PHPFog and as a result I ended up with a MySql database. I am trying to figure out how to connect to it with a success message. PHPFog says use this: mysql_connect( $server = getenv('MYSQL_DB_HOST'), $username = getenv('MYSQL_USERNAME'), $password = getenv('MYSQL_PASSWORD')); mysql_select_db(getenv('MYSQL_DB_NAME')); So I basically plug my variables into the above? Or Do I do something different? Thanks, Jim

  • SQLite/iPhone read copyright symbol

    - by Marco A
Hi All, I am having problems reading the copyright symbol from a sqlite db that I have for my App that I am developing. I import the information manually, ie, from an excel sheet. I have tried two ways of doing it and failed with both: 1) Tried replacing the copyright symbol with "\u00ae" (unicode combination) within excel and then importing the modified file. - Result: I get the combination of \u00ae as a part of the string, it doesnt detect the unicode combination. 2) Tried leaving as it is. Importing the excel with the copyright symbol. - Result: I get a symbol that is different from the copyright, its something like an AE put together.looks like this: Æ Heres my code how I read from DB: -(void) readCategoriesFromDatabase:(NSString *) rest_input { // Init the products Array categories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Open the database from the users filessytem rest_input = [rest_input stringByAppendingString:@"'"]; NSString *newString; newString = [@"select distinct category from food where restaurant='" stringByAppendingString:rest_input]; const char *cat_sqlStatement = [newString UTF8String]; sqlite3_stmt *cat_compiledStatement; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, cat_sqlStatement, -1, &cat_compiledStatement, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { // Loop through the results and add them to the feeds array while(sqlite3_step(cat_compiledStatement) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *catName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(cat_compiledStatement,0)]; // Create a new product object with the data from the database Product *category = [[Product alloc] initWithName:catName]; // Add the product object to the respective Array [categories addObject:category]; [category release]; } sqlite3_finalize(cat_compiledStatement); } NSLog(@"Finished Accessing Database to gather Categories...."); } I open the DB with this function: -(void) checkAndCreateDatabase{ NSLog(@"Checking/Creating Database...."); NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; success = [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:databasePath]; [fileManager removeFileAtPath:databasePath handler:nil]; NSString *databasePathFromApp = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:databaseName]; [fileManager copyItemAtPath:databasePathFromApp toPath:databasePath error:nil]; [fileManager release]; if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); database = nil; } NSLog(@"Finished Checking/Creating Database...."); } Thanks to anything that can help me out.

  • How to compress/decompress a long query string in PHP?

    - by jodeci
I doubt if this is encryption but I can't find a better phrase. I need to pass a long query string like this: http://test.com/test.php?key=[some_very_loooooooooooooooooooooooong_query_string] The query string contains NO sensitive information so I'm not really concerned about security in this case. It's just...well, too long and ugly. Is there a library function that can let me encode/encrypt/compress the query string into something similar to the result of a md5() (similar as in, always a 32 character string), but decode/decrypt/decompress-able?

  • Change WizardForm.TasksList offset

    - by Paja
When I change WizardForm.TasksList.Offset to 20, the result looks like this: When I change it to 120, it looks like this: The problem is, I need it 120, but I don't want any space between the checkbox and it's label. You can see that with offset 120 it looks just awful, because of that space. I want the space to appear only at the left side, not in the middle. Is there any way to accomplish that?

  • First record does not show in pagination script

    - by whitstone86
This is my pagination script which extracts info for my TV guide project that I am working on. Currently I've been experimenting with different PHP/MySQL before it becomes a production site. This is my current script: <?php /*********************************** * PhpMyCoder Paginator * * Created By PhpMyCoder * * 2010 PhpMyCoder * * ------------------------------- * * You may use this code as long * * as this notice stays intact and * * the proper credit is given to * * the author. * ***********************************/ // set the default timezone to use. Available since PHP 5.1 putenv("TZ=US/Eastern") ?> <head> <title> Pagination Test - Created By PhpMyCoder</title> <style type="text/css"> #nav { font: normal 13px/14px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin: 2px 0; } #nav a { background: #EEE; border: 1px solid #DDD; color: #000080; padding: 1px 7px; text-decoration: none; } #nav strong { background: #000080; border: 1px solid #DDD; color: #FFF; font-weight: normal; padding: 1px 7px; } #nav span { background: #FFF; border: 1px solid #DDD; color: #999; padding: 1px 7px; } </style> </head> <?php //Require the file that contains the required classes include("pmcPagination.php"); //PhpMyCoder Paginator $paginator = new pmcPagination(20, "page"); //Connect to the database mysql_connect("localhost","root","PASSWORD"); //Select DB mysql_select_db("mytvguide"); //Select only results for today and future $result = mysql_query("SELECT programme, channel, airdate, expiration, episode, setreminder FROM lagunabeach where expiration >= now() order by airdate, 3 ASC LIMIT 0, 100;"); //You can also add reuslts to paginate here mysql_data_seek($queryresult,0) ; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $paginator->add(new paginationData($row['programme'], $row['channel'], $row['airdate'], $row['expiration'], $row['episode'], $row['setreminder'])); } ?> <?php //Show the paginated results $paginator->paginate (); ?><? include("pca-footer1.php"); ?> <?php //Show the navigation $paginator->navigation(); ?> Despite me having two records for the programmes airing today, it only shows records from the second one onwards - the programme that airs at 8:35pm UK time GMT does not show, but the later 11:25pm UK time GMT one does show. How should I fix this? Above is my code if that is of any use! Thanks

  • Integration tests - "no exceptions are thrown" approach. Does it make sense?

    - by Andrew Florko
Sometimes integration tests are rather complex to write or developers have no enough time to check output - does it make sense to write tests that make sure "no exceptions are thrown" only? Such tests provide some input parameters set(s) and doesn't check the result, but only make sure code not failed with exception? May be such tests are not very useful but appropriate in situations when you have no time?

  • Is there anyway to stop automatic DataContext inheritance in Silverlight?

    - by Ant
Is there anyway to stop automatic DataContext inheritance in Silverlight? I Set my DataContext on my parent UserControl in code. As a result all the xaml bindings inside the UserControl try to bind to the new DataConext they get (through the automatic DataContext Inheritance). The DataContext's for the children elements (actually they are children of children of children) of the UserControl is something I need to set in the UserControl's code... I don't want them being all smart because they end up binding to the wrong data object! :-)

  • Boost BGL thread safety

    - by Budzoli
Hi! I'd like multiple threads to use the dijkstra_shortest_paths and astar_search functions of the BGL, and then read the property maps of the result vertices and edges. I'm wondering wether I should use mutexes to ensure thread-safety. So here are my questions: 1., Are the dijkstra_shortest_paths and astar_search functions of the Boost.Graph thread safe? 2., If I only try to read the property maps of the graph from multiple threads, do I need to worry about thread safety?

What I am talking about is: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx I would like to know, how can I extend the user fields to store more than just common password, username? I want to store for example: birthday, and other result sets.

  • Are regexes really maintainable?

    - by Rich Bradshaw
Any code I've seen that uses Regexes tends to use them as a black box: Put in string Magic Regex Get out string This doesn't seem a particularly good idea to use in production code, as even a small change can often result in a completely different regex. Apart from cases where the standard is permanent and unchanging, are regexes the way to do things, or is it better to try different methods?
