  • Capistrano SSH::AuthenticationFailed, not prompting for password

    I've been using capistrano successfully for a while now and all of a sudden in every project I've lost the ability to deploy. Environment: os X (Mavericks) ruby 1.9.3p194 rvm (locally, not on server) rails 3.2 and up RubyGems 1.8.25 I'm not using rsa_keys or anything I want capistrano to prompt for user and password. Suddenly it has decided not to ask for a password, but does ask for user. Then it rolls back and gives me the following error. [deploy:update_code] exception while rolling back: Capistrano::ConnectionError, connection failed for: sub.example.com (Net::SSH::AuthenticationFailed: Authentication failed for user [email protected]) connection failed for: sub.example.com (Net::SSH::AuthenticationFailed: Authentication failed for user [email protected]) This has occurred on my personal laptop and my iMac at work. It occurs when deploying to two different servers (both linux) I'm completely at a loss here. Any ideas?

    I'm not exactly positive how to word this for the sake of the title so please forgive me. Also I can't seem to figure out how to even google this question, so I'm hoping that I can get a lead in the right direction. Part of my software(VB.NET App) requires the ability to access/read/write a shared network folder. I have an option for the user to specify any credentials that might be needed to access said folder. I want to store these credentials given in the SQL Server database as part of the config (I have a table which contains configuration). My concern is that the password for the user account will be unencrpyted. Yet, if I encrypt the password the VB.NET App And/Or database will be unable to use the credentials for file i/o operations unless the Password is unencrypted before use. I'm fishing for suggestions on how to better handle this situation.

    Hello!, I know how to compile C and C++ Source files using GCC and CC in the terminal, however i would like to know if its safe to include passwords in these files, once compiled. For example.. i check user input for a certain password e.g 123, but it appears compiled C/C++ programs is possible to be decompiled. Is there anyway to compile a C/C++ source file, while keeping the source completely hidden.. If not, could anyone provide a small example of encrypting the input, then checking against the password e.g: (SHA1, MD5)

  • Regular Expression - Password Validation is not working

    Hi, I have to validate the password using regex. The password rule is like at least 1 uppercase and at least 2 numeric. It works fine except if the character comes at the end of the string. The regular expression which i am using is "^(?=.*\d.{2})(?=.*[A-Z].{1})(?=.*[@#$%^&+=].{2}).{8,12}$" Rules: minimum length = 8 minimum uppercase = 1 minimum numeric = 2 minimum special character = 1 It works for Test123$$, Test$123, TEST123$s, Test123$1, Test12$3 but it fails if the character specified comes at the end of the string like Test123$, Test$a12, Test12aa@, 123aa@@T. Please let me know if there is any fix for this.

    I'm looking for guidence on writing a custom password reset UI, but it must fit the Provider 'Pattern', or degrade silently to built-in defaults. E.g. my Reset Control must collect extra information, and perform differently to the standard Password Recovery Control. It must close as possible use the standard MembershipProvider interface for standard functions, and only use an extended interface for the non-standard stuff. I'd like some reading on issues such as, what must I ask the Membership Provider for, and what must I do myself. What must I tell the provider (service?) about what I do? Etc.

    Please not that I fully understand this is a dumb ass idea, but its not my idea. We need to deter people visiting a certain page on our site. It's written in ASP and I don'tknow ASP! Can anyone tell me how I can have a pop up box load when the URL is visited where by people have to enter a username / password. The user name / password should be stored in the javascript. (Yes I know) The only real requirement is that this happen anytime the page is loaded and it stays on that page. So the page is test.asp - javascript pops up they enter credentials and if right remain on test.asp Thanks

    Hi, I'm using the following to generate a random password in a shell script: DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) When i run this in a file on its own like this: #!/bin/sh DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) echo $DBPASS A password is echoed. When i incorporate it into a larger script though the variable never seems to get created for some reason, so for example this doesn't work: DBPASS=</dev/urandom tr -dc A-Za-z0-9| (head -c $1 > /dev/null 2>&1 || head -c 8) sed -i s/oldpass/$DBPASS/ mysql_connect.php If i manually set the variable though everything is fine.. can anyone see why?

    Do you know when you use in a form the password field, like this: <input type="password" name="pass"> And you do a GET or POST submit to the same page who have the form and if the user hit back in the browser the password field gets blank. Well thats good, but i need to get blank another form field when the user hit back. Thats because i asking for a captcha and the text field who hold the information entered by the user ramain fill when he hit back, but the captcha image change, and if i dont blank the field the user (sometimes) dont get that he needs to re-enter the captcha.     I have password protected website with .htaccess. What I want to do now is to force users to login from the index.html page and not from any other which they can do now. ie. I have index.html (the main page) and I have two other pages 1.html and 2. html also protected with .htaccess password. Users can now type http://www.mypage.com/1.html and they will be asked for login data but I would like to force them (before they are asked for login details) to index.html to login. After they are loggedin they can use any link (ie.1.html or 2.html) as they want. Can this be done by using .htaccess? I would need the whole code. Thank you!

I want to store the passwords hashed, so I overridded the save method in my User model: public function save(Doctrine_Connection $conn = null) { $this->setUserPassword( md5($this->getUserPassword()) ); return parent::save($conn); } This works good when a new user created. However, this causes problems when we edit a user without changing his password. This causes Doctrine to hash the already hashed password. So, I need to check that whether the UserPassword is modified in this DoctrineRecord instance. How can I manage to do that?

    Hi guys, I'm having an issue with validating chinese characters against other chinese characters, for example I'm creating a simple password script which gets data from a database, and gets the user input through get. The issue I'm having is for some reason, even though the characters look exactly the same when you echo them out, my if statement still thinks they are different. I have tried using the htmlentities() function to encode the characters, the password from the database encodes nicely, giving me a working '& #35441;' (I've put a space in it to stop it from converting to a chinese character!). The other user input value gives me a load of funny characters. The only thing which I believe must be breaking it, is it encodes in a different way and therefore the php thinks it's 2 completely different strings. Does anybody have any ideas?     Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok.   • WPA2 authentication fails using USB network devices (Linksys and Rosewill)

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. Tried the same with a Linksys USB network adapter. Both failed to authenticate. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)   • Why is my Internet connection randomly dropping?

    Ever since I have installed 12.04 (clean install not an upgrade), i have been having a drop in the Internet connection. The drop in the connection can be anything from 15 seconds to about 3 mins, and then the connection comes back. This behaviour happens while I am actively browsing the Internet, or if I wake up the computer and open Firefox (sometimes I have connection and sometimes I don't) . Please note that when the internet connection is on, it is not slow (as speedtest.net results show) In the beginning, I thought it was a problem with the driver r8169 for my RTL8111/8168B Ethernet card, so I downloaded the r8168 from Realtek website, followed the detailed instructions (blacklisted r8169, changed the file to '.bsh' ...), but still the same problem persisted. So I switched to a wireless connection, and I got the same problem with internet connection dropping randomly. Any ideas? I wish to host a master server which tracks player's items, rank, cash, exp, etc. In such a model, how can I prevent someone that is hosting a game (with a modified server) from spoofing the master server with invalid match results, thus gaining exp, money or rankings.     Yes I realise that most external Hard Drives would not be transitioned into internal sitting Hard Drives, but unfortunately we broke the miniUSB connection that transfers the data from external Hard Drive to laptop. What we are TRYING to do now, is get the WD MyBook 1TB to funtion alongside (preferably as SLAVE) to my currently exsisting Desktop Hard Drive. both are SATA drives. We have the SATA power, and Data cables, and these are in place (but - somehow NOT working) - Help please - I am not computer illeterate, just don't know how to switch this so it works. How do I turn one into master, and the newer one (that was external) into the slave drive?

  • AWS Amazon EC2 - password-less SSH login for non-root users using PEM keypairs

    We've got a couple of clusters running on AWS (HAProxy/Solr, PGPool/PostgreSQL) and we've setup scripts to allow new slave instances to be auto-included into the clusters by updating their IPs to config files held on S3, then SSHing to the master instance to kick them to download the revised config and restart the service. It's all working nicely, but in testing we're using our master pem for SSH which means it needs to be stored on an instance. Not good. I want a non-root user that can use an AWS keypair who will have sudo access to run the download-config-and-restart scripts, but nothing else. rbash seems to be the way to go, but I understand this can be insecure unless setup correctly. So what security holes are there in this approach: New AWS keypair created for user.pem (not really called 'user') New user on instances: user Public key for user is in ~user/.ssh/authorized_keys (taken by creating new instance with user.pem, and copying it from /root/.ssh/authorized_keys) Private key for user is in ~user/.ssh/user.pem 'user' has login shell of /home/user/bin/rbash ~user/bin/ contains symbolic links to /bin/rbash and /usr/bin/sudo /etc/sudoers has entry "user ALL=(root) NOPASSWD: ~user/.bashrc sets PATH to /home/user/bin/ only ~user/.inputrc has 'set disable-completion on' to prevent double tabbing from 'sudo /' to find paths. ~user/ -R is owned by root with read-only access to user, except for ~user/.ssh which has write access for user (for writing known_hosts), and ~user/bin/* which are +x Inter-instance communication uses 'ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -i ~user/.ssh/user.pem user@ sudo ' Any thoughts would be welcome.
