i.e. if I create a VARCHAR(50) field, what happens if I try to assign it a value that's 100 characters long?
Will SQL Server let me do this? Is it somehow less efficient?
I need to write a function to delete the login in the database if it does not have any users to map to using SQL Server Management Objects (SMO). How can I achieve this ?
Hi,
Sorry if the question isn't phrased very well but I'm new to SSAS and don't know the correct terms.
I have changed the name of a table and its columns. I am using said table as a dimension for my cube, so now the cube won't process. Presumably I need to make updates in the analysis server to reflect changes to the source database?
I have no idea where to start - any help gratefully received.
Thanks
Phil
Check out this pic of my SQL 2008 Management Configuration screen for TCP:
I need to know what port I am running on. Base on this previous post, I don't believe that it is 1433, which I guess is the default.
When I check my port number in SQL Config Mgr., it is blank. Does this suggest a default port? Note that I have multiple SQL Server instance on the db server. 1 2000 instance and two 2008 instances. I want to know the port of the 2008b instance.
Can you help?
Why is it necessary to remove and then re-add a user to a SQL Server database after restoring it from a file?
If I don't do this, I get a "User login failed" when trying to access the database using this username from apps.
I am using my fluent nhibernate mappings to generate my MS SQL Server database.
I would like to be able to set a columns' description as part of this generation.
Hi, the problem is, im using a leased windows server, and im trying to create a directory using php function mkdir, whichever path i try gives the same result.
im using absolute something like this.
mkdir('D:\Hosting\3105674\html\lepsiprisma\hola',0777);
I am aware of:
SELECT @@ERROR
but it will give me only an ERROR CODE (a number) and I need a full text message like:
Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.TABLE_NAME' with unique index 'IX_ID_unique'.
The statement has been terminated.
How can I do that in MS Sql Server 2005 ?
In SQL Server, is there any way to check whether the changes in the schema will impact Stored Procedures (and/or Views)?
For example a change of the column name in one table, may break some Stored Procedures; how to check the impacted stored procs?
Question: I can get the SQL Server database language by querying:
SELECT @@language
And I can get further info via
EXEC sp_helplanguage
How can I query for a column of sp_helplanguage where name= @@language
I do SELECT * FROM sp_helplanguage WHERE name='DEUTSCH'
but that obviously doesn't work.
What's the correct way to query it ?
Long story short is I tried to quickly update a single row in SQL Server using the Management studio and just typed UPDATE table SET column='value' and forgot the WHERE other_column='other_value' portion. Went for lunch, came back and theres 15 unread emails waiting for me. Happened about an hour ago, waiting for the database guy to come back to see when the last backup was. There's no magic UNDO feature though is there?
I use this mysql statement for concating description which has a length greater than 30..
select if (CHAR_LENGTH(description)>30,CONCAT(SUBSTRING(description,1,30),
'.....'),description) as description from table
How to change this mysql select into sql server select statement?
So I know that my server on real form submit turns %CE%EB%E5%E3+%DF%EA%F3%F8%EA%E8%ED into ???? ??????? . How to peform string transfer from ???? ??????? into %CE%EB%E5%E3+%DF%EA%F3%F8%EA%E8%ED using ActionScript? (Its ok if a space character as %20, not + , PHP should handle that fine.)
I have to create a C# application which displays unicode data in a textbox.
But the SQL server column storage has varchar data which contains unicode data. But since varchar is non-unicode based it displays character strings like "????????".
Well the problem i am facing is i cant change the column type as there are other dependent application running on it.
is there some way to tell sql server to use the (nolock) hint or every select in a stored procedure?
is pretty tiresome to add it to each an every select....
Is there a concise list of SQL Server stored procedure errors that make sense to automatically retry? Obviously, retrying a "login failed" error doesn't make sense, but retrying "timeout" does. I'm thinking it might be easier to specify which errors to retry than to specify which errors not to retry.
So, besides "timeout" errors, what other errors would be good candidates for automatic retrying?
Thanks!
Hi guys,
If you are a new sql server dba and you just get an account of an instance. What would you do to know the instance and databases? How to quick get a general idea of this instance and databases?
Great thanks.
Hi guys,
In SQL Server, how do I know what transaction mode I'm currently using? Such as autocommit, explicit, or implicit. And how can I change one mode to another using tsql?
Great thanks.
