  • How to check Linux version with Autoconf?

    - by Goofy
My program requires at least Linux 2.6.26 (I use timerfd and some other Linux-specific features). I have an general idea how to write this macro but I don't have enough knowledge about writing test macros for Autoconf. Algorithm: Run "uname --release" and store output Parse output and subtract Linux version number (MAJOR.MINOR.MICRO) Compare version I don't know how to run command, store output and parse it. Maybe such macro already exists and it's available (I haven't found any)?

  • ebook reader for programming books?

    - by Martin
Are the current ebook readers good enough for reading programming books (containing diagrams, source-code, screenshots, and so on)? How good are the search functions or the possibilities to set bookmarks, to use a book as a reference? I'd like to hear opinions of ebook reader owners to help me decide whether or not I should buy an ebook reader. (I know this question already exists, but it's over one year old and new ebook readers are now available)

  • Equivalent to Android's Toast or Mac OSX Growl in Java Swing?

    - by I82Much
Hi all, Looking for a means of displaying transient, non-modal dialogs in a Swing application. In other words, I'd like to pop up a semi-transparent box with some text in it that can be immediately dismissed, or will fade away in a set amount of time. Is there a library to do this? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. Growl screenshot: Android Toast screenshot:

  • mysql query for getting all messages that belong to user's contacts

    - by aharon
So I have a database that is setup sort of like this (simplified, and in terms of the tables, all are InnoDBs): Users: contains based user authentication information (uid, username, encrypted password, et cetera) Contacts: contains two rows per relationship that exists between users as (uid1, uid2), (uid2, uid1) to allow for a good 1:1 relationship (must be mutual) between users Messages: has messages that consist of a blob, owner-id, message-id (auto_increment) So my question is, what's the best MySQL query to get all messages that belong to all the contacts of a specific user? Is there an efficient way to do this?

  • Find location using only distance and bearing?

    - by pinnacler
Triangulation works by checking your angle to three KNOWN targets. "I know the that's the Lighthouse of Alexandria, it's located here (X,Y) on a map, and it's to my right at 90 degrees." Repeat 2 more times for different targets and angles. Trilateration works by checking your distance from three KNOWN targets. "I know the that's the Lighthouse of Alexandria, it's located here (X,Y) on a map, and I'm 100 meters away from that." Repeat 2 more times for different targets and ranges. But both of those methods rely on knowing WHAT you're looking at. Say you're in a forest and you can't differentiate between trees, but you know where key trees are. These trees have been hand picked as "landmarks." You have a robot moving through that forest slowly. Do you know of any ways to determine location based solely off of angle and range, exploiting geometry between landmarks? Note, you will see other trees as well, so you won't know which trees are key trees. Ignore the fact that a target may be occluded. Our pre-algorithm takes care of that. 1) If this exists, what's it called? I can't find anything. 2) What do you think the odds are of having two identical location 'hits?' I imagine it's fairly rare. 3) If there are two identical location 'hits,' how can I determine my exact location after I move the robot next. (I assume the chances of having 2 occurrences of EXACT angles in a row, after I reposition the robot, would be statistically impossible, barring a forest growing in rows like corn). Would I just calculate the position again and hope for the best? Or would I somehow incorporate my previous position estimate into my next guess? If this exists, I'd like to read about it, and if not, develop it as a side project. I just don't have time to reinvent the wheel right now, nor have the time to implement this from scratch. So if it doesn't exist, I'll have to figure out another way to localize the robot since that's not the aim of this research, if it does, lets hope it's semi-easy.

  • Tomcat error with Hibernate 3.51 / Java EE 6

    - by DD
I just upgraded to hibernate 3.51 and I get an error now saying: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.persistence.OneToMany.orphanRemoval () Z. This only happens with Tomcat not with Jetty. I've checked and I don't have any conflict and this method definitely exists. I have hibernate-jpa-2.0-api-1.0.0.Final.jar on the class path, and dont have any conflicting classes. Any suggestions?

  • Django-like templates system for Java?

    - by Savash
I'm looking for the templates engine for Java with syntax like in Django templates or Twig (PHP). Is it exists? Update: The target is to have same templates files for different languages. File index.tpl {{head}} {{ var|escape }} {{body}} can be rendered from python (Django) code as well as from PHP, using Twig. I'm looking for Java solution. Thanks.

  • .NET Serial Port: Port Configuration Dialog

    - by sheepsimulator
I'm going to be writing a small app based on the .NET SerialPort class. Is there a generic dialog available for setting the port settings, ala baud rate, data bits, stop bit, parity bit, flow control, etc? I didn't see one in the MSDN documentation, but I would think that one exists, since that stuff doesn't change.

  • In Magento, is it possible to populate your product models from an external API instead of the Magento DB?

    - by James Pelton
I currently have Magento 1.7 CE installed. I want to use the Magento Product Models, except I want to get the price for the product from an external API (our pricing exists outside of Magento). I know what I could use the Magento API to import all the prices from our existing database, but our pricing changes very often, and we would then need to maintain two databases. Basically I'm wondering if there is something in Magento I can overwrite to call our API instead of the DB?

  • Using SQL for localization instead of RESX files in ASP.NET

    - by user313994
Hi, I'm thinking of developing the following but wondering if it already exists out there: I need a SQL based solution for assigning and managing localization text values for an asp.net site instead of using RESX files. This helps maintain text on the site without having to take it down for deployment whenever an update is required. Thanks.

  • Display/hide menu items depending on logged on user

    - by Andrew
In my web app, I would like to show an "Admin" menu link only to users who have been added to the database as an administrator. What would be the best way to do this in ASP.NET MVC 2? At the moment, I am doing it by checking whether the user exists in the Admin database table for every page. Obviously, there must be a better way to do this. If it helps, I am using Windows Auth.

    - by venkat
I have created a Ext.Panel object, it rendered properly to specified div element on my page. I want to replace the panel object underlying element(previously rendered div element) to another div which will be identified dynamically. • asp.net mvc 2 validating text inputs on modal windows

    - by nick
hi guys, i am tasked with the job of creating client-side validation on a form in an asp.net MVC 2 application, which has a modal window (the modal exists as part of the wrapping form, it is not a form unto itself). how would i go about providing validation for these text field inputs while the modal is visible, but do not validate while the modal is not displayed (as to not cause problems in the rest of the form if the modal window is never required) What is the best approach to achieve this functionality? thanks, Nick

  • ideas for a distributed cache proxy server

Hi everyone! I am implementing, a distributed cache proxy server.I have an idea of the HTTP and related stuff, so i am rather concentrating on the sub part "Distributed data storage". From some search on web i found that this could be done using Distributed Hash Tables(DHT). I was wondering if there exists some kind of library for this preferably in C/C++. Any better suggestions for the same will also be appreciated.

  • Vaadin: Downloaded file has whole path as file name

    - by javydreamercsw
I have a download action implemented on my Vaadin application but for some reason the downloaded file has the original file's full path as the file name. Any idea? You can see the code on this post. Edit: Here's the important part of the code: package com.bluecubs.xinco.core.server.vaadin; import com.bluecubs.xinco.core.server.XincoConfigSingletonServer; import com.vaadin.Application; import com.vaadin.terminal.DownloadStream; import com.vaadin.terminal.FileResource; import java.io.*; import java.net.URLEncoder; import java.util.UUID; import java.util.logging.Level; import java.util.logging.Logger; import java.util.zip.CRC32; import java.util.zip.CheckedInputStream; /** * * @author Javier A. • Android Time&Date Picker

    - by vycon
Hello, Is there any android widget that enable to pick the date and the time at the same time ? I already use the basic date picker and date picker: http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-timepicker.html http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-datepicker.html but they are not that sexy and user friendly (I found).
